13. Summoning

Although vampires healed quickly, the emotional hurt never went away. We could remember it for months, or at least I could. In no way did I want to see any of the guys from last night. Every single one of them either hurt me or stood by watching, except for Michael and Davis.

I laid in bed, thinking about the mystery wolf man. I'd never realized we didn't know each other's name. He was wolfman and I was probably vampire girl or dress girl. I smiled thinking about it.

Pounding on my bedroom door suddenly happened and I jumped up against my bed wall. The door slammed open. Mr Wilson, the top bounty Hunter for the king stepped into my room with royal guards in tow.

"Charlotte Gray, you have been summoned by King Pierce. I will give you 2 minutes to get dressed as a courtesy due to your relationship with Sir Thomas. If you are not downstairs by then, I'll come drag you out myself."

My heart sunk as they left the room. Do I run? Do I resist this knowing the king could be putting me down so I wasn't a hassle to this anymore? Maybe Thomas found another girl last night he would rather marry.

Slowly I got dressed in jeans and a black t shirt. I grabbed my phone from the counter before the door slammed open. Wilson stood there, a massive smile on his face.

"Let's go," he ran forward and yanked me up over his shoulder.

"Put me down!" I screamed and kicked against him. When we got outside, I managed to kick his stomach hard enough and he dropped me at his side. As soon as I hit the ground, I was standing and preparing to run. Michael stood in front of me shaking his head. Pain rested in his eyes causing me to freeze in my tracks.

Wilson grabbed my arm and twisted it behind my back, forcing me down on my knees. I tried to pull away before he twisted my arm further. A crack sounded before pain rushed through my arm. I screamed out in pain, leaning over, tears streaming my eyes again. Michael stepped forward and hesitated, still watching Wilson.

They exchanged looks before he pulled my now broken arm up, forcing me to stand and walk to the black suburbans.

We drove to the palace, one of Wilson's men sitting next to me on both sides. They didn't use the garage to enter. Instead, they pulled up to the front door where many royals were hanging out and talking.

The one person I could recognize was Davis. All of them stood watching the scene that unfolded around them but none of them knew what was happening.

The doors opened and the men stepped out before Wilson yanked me out, dragging me by the back of my shirt towards the house. I didn't try to resist and instead held my arm close to my chest. Davis stepped forward, confusion written on his face.

"C'mon, move it!" Wilson yelled, shoving me forward, causing me to trip and fall onto my arm further. I ground my teeth together, trying not to make a noise.

Wilson dragged me up again, closing the distance between us and the building. I wished Davis would help me but even I knew he wasn't in his own land and his word didn't hold much authority here against royal guards.

I was pushed forward into King Peirce's office. Keeping my eyes down at my feet, I didn't bother to look up to him. I already could feel eyes on me as I stood in the center of the room. Wilson shut the door behind him, standing way too close to me.

"Wilson, I told you to bring her here unharmed." King Pierce's voice growled through the room.

"She resisted, sir." Wilson lied. I knew it was a lie. He just wasn't happy at how long it took for me to get dressed. My words would mean nothing at this point though.

"Charlie," it was barely a whisper but instantly my head was flipping up to see him. Surrounded by the other Kings in the room, he barely stood out. Thomas stepped forward closer to me before King Astor stepped in front of me.

"Sit down, Thomas!" King Pierce ordered. He did as told and I could see the sadness in his eyes.  King Pierce walked around his desk and towards me. I flinched back when his hand raised up towards me. "Charlotte, you did not deserve what he did to you."

A small tear escaped and ran down my cheek.

"I understand king Astor's son took care of you like a proper man would at a ball. Is that true?" I slowly nodded. "However, am I to understand that you attacked him when he first arrived?"

With eyes filled with tears, I looked up to King and nodded again.

"Sir, I was unaware who he was--"

A slap sent me falling to the ground, barely catching myself with my good hand.

"How dare you attack any royal, especially in my own home." He shouted. "It is your job as a potential wife to my son to know your superiors. How dare you embarrass me in front of these people!"

"I'm sorry, sir!" I whispered.

"Father, please," I could hear Thomas speak up from behind him.

King Pierce turned around facing him. Thomas stood up and stepped forward. Before anything more could happen between the two, king Valencia spoke from the corner of the room.

"Do you have any human blood?" He asked. King Pierce looked over at him. "In my sector, they're put out in front of the palace and human blood is put in front of them."

"Father, please, don't do this." Thomas pleaded.

"What is happening?" Davis asked, stepping forward into the room with other royal sons behind him.

"She attacked a royal. I will have her punished appropriately." King Pierce growled, staring down at me.

"Sir, if this is about me, I deemed the matter over with."

My jaw burned and I could feel the pain swelling from his hard smack. King looked down at me clearly not wanting this to be over with.

"King Pierce, the matter was handled!" Davis shouted. King turned around to face Davis. My small whimpers could be heard throughout the office but were ignored.

"Thomas, take her to your room. I expect this week you two will sort out the rest of her punishment." King glared at Davis but knew the fight wouldn't end in this room.

Thomas stepped forward and walked over to me. I wanted to cower away from him but knew he was better than the king. Slowly, he picked me up in his arms easily and gently as possible.

We left the room, Michael stepping out and observing him take me up to his room. After everything that had happened, I wanted nothing to do with this family. Family doesn't attack their own family, even when they screw up.

He laid me down on his bed and shut his door. No words were spoken as he sat down in his chair. I rolled onto my side holding my arm against me still. He stared out the window at the daylight.

"I was a drunk idiot and I know I'll never be able to take those words or the pain I caused you back. I can't believe I did that. I've never felt so horrible…"

I felt the bed sink down and cried out in pain from my wrist. Thomas looked down at my hands and reached into his side drawer. He held out a small blue pill towards me.

"It will speed up your healing. Please, I don't want to see you suffer more. You don't have to talk to me but please just take it." I slowly reached out and took the pill, followed by water and turned back away from him.

He got back up and walked over to his chair which made me more happy. It would take much more than just words to fix this, if it could even be fixed.

The rest of the night, he sat there in his chair staring outside. Eventually, I watched him fall asleep. That was my moment. Standing up, I ran to the door and opened it silently. He didn't move once as I opened and closed it behind me.

It was time to learn more about the wolves and have some of my own freedom. I knew it would be a struggle to get there from the affects of the pill, healing, and lack of sleep from the previous night, but I needed to learn more. I needed to understand the wolf world.
