Chapter 8 Not a Goodbye
The only reason why Jeremy regretted being at Jamie's reunion was because of her friends. They would fake a smile at him, but in their minds they would say the nastiest things about him. Gavin was the worst, he would try to outsmart him s but unfortunately for him none of his tricks worked. Jeremy would always find a way to prove him wrong, so Gavin tried another tactic.
"Hey Jeremy, want to play some pool?" he said pointing with his head the pool table resting on the living room.
"Sure. " Jeremy asked confidently.
"Have you played before?" Gavin asked hiding his cockiness.
"To be honest no, but I do know the rules. And I'm willing to try anything new. "
Jeremy would try his best and show this guy he was not someone to be messed with. He would regret it.
"Wanna bet?" Gavin asked.
"Gavin, why are you being so obnoxious?" Jamie said looking at him.
"I'm not. I just want to have some fun with Jeremy. "
"Fine, let's play as pairs. I'm teaming Jeremy. " Jamie said grabbing one of the sticks.
Jeremy had to bit his lip to contain the laughter when seeing Gavin's face, somehow his tricks would always hit him in the face.
Paige regretted not having all her clothes with her, she was looking for something to wear that would impress Dylan's mother. She decided for a navy blue draped dress with round neck and short sleeves, pairing it with her black heels. As she putting on some make up Jessica came inside and gave an impressed whistle when seeing her.
"Where are you going to dressed like that?" Jessica asked crossing her arms and studying her from head to toes.
"I'm meeting Dylan's mom. " Paige said putting her makeup on her purse.
"Wow, you two guys are quick. How many times have you been out? Can't believe you're meeting his mom already."
"Not in that way, his mom is a designer and hopefully I can be an intern there. Dylan helped me arrange a meeting with her."
"Huh, I just thought you made it oficial. You two seem to get quite along. Why not?" Jessica asked sitting on her bed.
"We are friends only, he has never made a move on me either. "
"You have a crush on him, why don't you tell him?" Jessica said crossing her legs.
"I have never been lucky in love, I had a huge crush on a guy on my high school for two years and he never noticed me. And I was to shy to talk with him. Now I don't want to risk my friendship with Dylan. Things could change between us if he feels differently. "
"I just hope bottling your feelings will not explode in your face later, its never good. " Jessica made a pause before continuing. " I hope she hires you, or at leas gives you a paid internship. Some companies do. "
Paige said goodbye to her friend and walked outside the building taking out her phone to call an huber when an upcoming call from Dylan appeared on screen.
"Hello." she answered.
"Where are you?"
"About to call an uber outside my dorm building. Why?"
"Didn't you received my message? I told I would take at my mom's place."
"I haven't checked my messages, sorry. "
Fifteen minutes later Paige was seated on the passenger seat of Dylan's car. She felt nervous, unsure if it was because she was going to meet Dylan's mother or because of her conversation with Jessica. Her hands starting feeling sweaty, and the worst thing was to shake Stacey Sullivan's hand and get her wet.
"Why are you so quiet? Is it because of my mom?" Dylan asked slowing down with a stop sign.
" Is there something you can tell me about her that can help me?"
"She can look intimidating, but she doesn't bite. Just chill and be yourself."
Paige tried to relax herself as they arrived to the building. Dylan saluted the recepcionist, a woman in her mid thirties who greeted him happily and then looked at Paige.
"She's your friend you spoke to your mom about?" she asked him.
"Yes. "
"Take a seat. I'll tell her she's here. "
Five minutes later Dylan was taking the elevator with Paige to the fourth floor. The door opened and an elegant brunette woman in a sexy dress wrapped her arms around him. Paige couldn't help admire her, not only because of her beauty and elegance, but because she demanded attention without any effort. Clearly she was a hardworking and fearless woman who achieved everything she wanted.
"Hey son, how are you?" she said letting him go.
"Good. Let me introduce to my good friend Paige. " he said waving his hand at her.
"Hello Mrs. Sullivan, it's nice to meet you. " Paige said shaking her hand.
"No need to be so formal. Call me Stacey. My real name is Anastasia, but everyone calls me Stacey. It's short and cute. Come with me so we can talk at my office. "
Dylan mouthed "good luck" and Paige gave him a short smile before following Stacey Sullivan into her office.
Dana was impressed at the place Liam picked for their encounter. It had an artistic essence to it, with several paintings on the walls and it had a stage it, and lights as well. It reminded her of the movie "She's All That", when Zack and Laney made a presentation on a stage. Liam waved his hand telling her to get closer and greeted her with a kiss on the cheek.
"What's all this about?" she asked pointing around.
" Call it an artistic cafeteria, people can go on stage and tell a joke, sing , or anything they wish. "
"You're not expecting me to go upstairs and recite a poem, right?"
"Of course not, just enjoy the show. "
Just as Liam said, there were presentations of music bands who were quite talented at singing as well. She enjoyed all acts, and it reminded her of her poem readings, which she missed dearly. Maybe she would try reading one of her poems on a further ocassion, if she decided to come back again, which she probably would. After the presentations a waiter approached their table and took their orders.
"Have you enjoyed the night?" He asked sipping some of his water.
"Yes, this place is cool. I have never heard about it before."
"I'm glad you like it, and mostly that you came. "
"Thanks for inviting me. Now, tell me about your painting. Why did you paint yourself with such a somber expression, specially at such short age. I guess you must have been ten years old."
"Eleven. That was my reaction when I told my parents i wanted to be an artist. They told me art is just a hobby, and I needed to choose a real career. "
"Ouch. " Dana said placing her hands on her face.
"I know, they were not exactly thrilled when I chose to assist art school when i graduated high school. They were when my sister got into med school. She's their pride. "
"I get you, I have a sister too. Her name is Monica, and she's older than me. My parents would almost kiss the floor stepped, and it was hard for me to grow with her. I felt I was competing with her as she everything she did was better than what I did."
" It's tough, ii love her but it's unpleasant to know you get compared with your sibling. But let's talk about something else. Tell me how did get into poetry?"
They both continued talking, and even though Dana at first insecure about his intentions she was glad she decided to meet with him. Liam was a nice guy, and felt he would be a great friend for her.
Amy finished packing all her stuff in her luggage, saddening her. She knew she would eventually leave Sean's side, but never imagined it would felt sorrowful. She checked twice hoping she was not forgetting anything. Sean knocked the door and came inside looking around, it seemed he couldn't believe either what was happening. He was driving her to their Aunt Beth's house, she offered to pick up Amy but Sean told her he would drive her.
"You're not forgetting anything?" he asked looking at her luggage.
"No. " she answered while zipping the suitcase.
"Ready to go?"
"No. " she answered shocking her head and getting her eyes teary. Sean hugged her trying to make her feel better, even though he felt as sad as she was. He still couldn't believe she was no longer going to live with him and would feel lonely without her.
"You can always count with me, for whatever you need or if you just want to talk I'm a phone call away. Never forget it. "
"I know, thanks for always taking care of me. I have never thanked you for it, and i could have never had anyone better. I love you. "
"I love you too. "
The siblings separated and Sean helped Amy with one of her suitcases, while she carried the other one. Before leaving the room she glanced for the last time at the place it was her home for eight years. She would definitely miss waking up there, and the smell of Sean's coffee or his food. Now she would have to adapt to these new changes, and hoped her relationship with Sean would not change a bit. She closed the door and walked to Sean's car getting the suitcase inside for later buckling up her seat belt on the passenger seat. Sean inserted the key and started driving to their Aunt's Beth house.
