Chapter 51 Interior War
Sterling was checking some accounting books when he was told he had a visitor. He didn't expect any visits, however when he was told it was Victoria Price he knew he had to listen to her. Minutes later she was inside his office. She was wearing jeans and a red t-shirt that matched her hair. The last time he saw it was twenty years ago, and she barely changed. She was and had always been a good looking woman, and understood why Jason wanted to get her back.
"Victoria, how can I help you?" he asked approaching her.
"Sterling, please talk with your son. He sent me flowers to the hospital. I told him I have a boyfriend and he still did it. He told me he wants us to be together, but I'm not interested. Maybe he'll listen to you since he clearly doesn't listen to me."
"He told me he plans divorcing Eleanor and pursue you. Trust me, I told him it was wrong for him to do that. I'll have to speak with him again."
"Thanks." she answered with a short anime.
"Victoria, I would like to use this opportunity to apologize to you."
'Why?" she asked nervously.
"I am partially guilty on why Jason abandoned you when you got pregnant. I always made him feel insecure on his decisions, and you were no exception. When you two were together I always told him how he could be with someone better. I was too hard on him, and I pushed you two away. Yet I was wrong, you are a strong woman who raised her son on her own."
"Thanks Sterling, it means a lot coming from you." she said with a short smile.
" I do hope you can forgive me. Jeremy is a stellar young man, and it's all too you. I do regret not being a part of his earlier life. I can't go back in time, but please remember that anything you two need I'll provide for you."
"I thought you were mad at him. For what happened at your party. " she answered almost in a whisper.
"Not at all. He defended you, and Steven deserved it. Anyway, I promise I'll speak with my son, so he won't bother you again."
Victoria thanked him again before leaving. Sterling texted his son telling him he wanted to speak to him. As Victoria got inside her car, she didn't notice a man behind some bushes taking pictures of her as she left.
Amy had reunited with her friends to have lunch together. Dana had arrived home and wanted to see her, she arrived minutes later followed by Paige and the last one was Jeremy. He seemed upset.
"Sorry, for being late. I was on the phone with my mom." he said sitting next to Paige.
"Is everything all right?" Paige asked.
"Not really. She told me Jason sent her flowers to the hospital."
"What?" Dana asked almost choking on her coca cola.
"Why?" Amy asked too at the same time.
"He wants her back. Apparently, he wants to divorce his wife. Now Steven will hate me more." he answered with a huge sigh.
"What do you mean?" Amy asked lowering her voice.
"My mom and I assisted Sterling's Christmas Party. I saw Steven yelling at her and I punched him with everyone there."
All the girls gasped, Jeremy was usually a calm pacific guy and they would never expect him to act that way. However, it was understandable why he acted the way he did. Any of them would have done the same in that situation.
"Good for you, Jer. The punk deserved that." Dana replied while giving him a bump on the arm.
"I thought Sterling, my grandpa, would be upset with me but according to what my mom said he isn't."
During all the conversation Paige was quiet. She was thinking of her father. He would be devastated to know that another man was pursuing his girlfriend, and how unfair it was for him. Since her mother left he had not dated another woman, she assumed it was because he was not interested. However, after he stopped drinking, he changed his ways and tried getting to know other women. Paige considered telling him as soon as she saw him, he deserved to know the truth. She noticed Jeremy started looking at her, and she understood why. He had read her thoughts.
After an hour everybody started saying goodbye, Jeremy offered Paige a ride while Dana and Amy left together. As Dana buckled her seat belt she noticed Jeremy didn't start the car yet and was staring at her.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"I don't want our parents' relationship to get in the middle of our friendship."
"Why would you, oh, she made a pause and understood why he said that. " You read my mind."
"Not on purpose though. I'm sorry. "
"It's alright, I forget about it. It's my fault."
"Look, I just want to let you know you can talk to me about this topic. Please don't feel you need to keep it quiet. I really don't want us to break apart because our parents are dating. Whether it works or not."
"Jeremy, I need to ask. Does your mom still has feelings for your dad?"
"No. It's over between she has no interest in him. She has told me several times it's over. "
She wanted to believe him; she really did but her gut told her something was not right. Jeremy wouldn't lie to her, but she felt Victoria wasn't exactly honest to her son. All she could do for now was to trust him, not as if she had any proofs that he was wrong. He drove her to her house and she said goodbye to him thanking him for the ride. She entered the house and saw her father on the kitchen. He was wearing an apron and stirring something on the stove. Paige guessed he was on a good mood, as he wasn't exactly a kitchen fan.
" Hey dad, what are you cooking?" she asked coming closer.
"Trying a new recipe, I want to ask Victoria to dinner here. What do you think?"
"It sounds great, I know she'll love anything you do."
"It's great you came. I know you must not be hungry right now, but maybe you can give me your sincere opinion.I really need it. "
"Of course dad, anything you need." she said giving him a hug.
