Chapter 45 Stalker

Jeremy and Amy were having lunch together. He had asked her to see him there, and she was anxious listening to what he would tell her about the strange object she had found.

"So, what was it?" she asked as soon the waiter left after taking their orders.

"An Airtag. It's a device used to locate people or things. I got one for Micah, my roommate, since he would always lose his dorm key." he said whispering.

"The heck? Why would someone try to locate me?" she answered whispering too. "It makes no freaking sense."

"I know. I went to the movies with a friend back in Connecticut and a complete stranger was taking pictures of me while I was in the phone. This means we need to be careful and alert."

"Do you think this might be related to Dana's attack as well? It can't be a coincidence. The three of us are former Mackenzie students."

Jeremy was about to continue when the waiter brought their food, when he left he spoke again.

"I told Paige her attack was confusing. When a person is abducted is because of money, or a serial killer abducting random people just because. But they took her back to her home, it makes no sense."

"Unless..." Amy started making a pause before continuing. " They were wanting to abduct someone else and realized their mistake. What other reason would they have to free her?"

"That makes a good point. " Jeremy said lowering while grabbing his fork and start eating.

"As you said, it's better to stay alert."

"It is. But let's talk about something else. I think Dana's boyfriend is cheating on her."

Amy almost choked with her food as he said that, she hadn't known Liam for that long, but it was hard to believe he was cheating on her friend. Dana would always share enthusiastically how he made her happy with his details, she seemed to have a strong connection with him.

"Why do you say that?" she asked after drinking her water.

"I saw him with another girl when I arrived, they looked really close and familiar with each other. And not in a friend vibe."

"All I can tell you is that if you speak with Dana you need solid proof. You know how stubborn and close minded she can be."

"You think I might be wrong?"

" Just saying, if you tell her Liam is cheating on her with no proof, she'll think you are just wanting to cause drama. She could even think you are wanting to go back with her."

"Because I'm her ex."

"Exactly. And it can be quite annoying when an ex is checking on your new relationship. I remember Jonah meddling when I started dating Connor, I just wanted to punch him in the face. If you talk with her be one hundred percent of what you say or she'll just have the wrong idea."

"You gave me a new perspective. Thanks."

"You are welcome. Do you have any plans for Christmas?"

"It turns out my grandpa, Jason's father, has invited my mom and me to his company's Christmas dinner. I honestly have no idea what to do about it. My mom has told me he's not an easy-going person.I'm not sure I want to meet him."

"He wants to get to know you, he can't be that awful. Maybe he has changed, you might like him if you give him a chance. You got nothing to lose." she said finishing her drink and looking for the waiter to ask for a refill.

"I guess you are right, I just hope he's someone worth knowing." he said making signs to the waiter who gave them both a refill.

Paige was having breakfast with Jesse on a brunch restaurant. She had learned that he would take her to places that he enjoyed and would make observations on the food which he would try on his own kitchen.

"I'll try this sandwich with Swiss cheese, I'm sure it would have a different taste. With some pink sauce it would have a different flavor. Want to try it when I prepare it?" he asked finishing his sandwich.

"Absolutely. You know I enjoy eating what you prepare. By the way, I want to give you something." she said handing him a white envelope.

"Paige, if that's money I don't want it. Keep it for yourself." he said eyeing the envelope suspiciously.

" Why not? It's my Christmas bonus, and I want to share it with you since you are always supporting me. You can use it for paying rent or culinary school."

"I know, it's just I feel sometimes like I'm taking charity from you. That's your love, use it for yourself."

"Are you sure? I want to support you. That's all."

"I'm alright, don't worry about me." he said grabbing her hand.

"I'm sorry for making you feel as a charity case, it was never my intention."

"I know, you don't need to apologize." he said kissing her on the cheek.

After finish eating, he drove her to the airport, and during the ride Paige meditated on her conversation with Jesse. He was someone fully independent, and even though her intention was good she had offended him. He had told her how he dreamed of opening his own restaurant someday, and she would do her best to show him support, but in some other way than financially.  Jesse walked with her inside waiting for her to do her check -in inside the airport.

"Everything is good?" he asked after she came out from the line.

"Yeah. Thanks for everything. I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too. Please call me or text me when you arrive."

They both shared a kiss as she walked through the gate where other passengers were going by. She waved to him before going inside and walked to the gate where her flight was.She grabbed her phone and called her dad.

"Hey, sweetie. Are you on the plane already?"

"Not yet, I'm on the gate waiting to be called. I'll be arriving approximately in an hour. and ten minutes."

"That's great love, can't wait to have you home. I need to share so much with you. In fact, I need to speak to you about Victoria."

"Is everything good with her?"

"It is, but I want your opinion on something."

"What is it?"

"I would prefer to speak with you in person."

"I understand. I'll see you later then. Love you."

She hanged the phone thinking what her father could say to her. He sounded so mysterious, and it made her think he was wanting to get serious in this relationship.

Helen was seated on her table waiting for her date to come with the drink she ordered. It was a guy called Ryan that had started texting her on Instagram, hoping she was not being catfished she gave him her phone number, and he had sent her address to meet her in person. She had arrived ten minutes earlier and texted him asking if he was close. His response was that something happened, and he would be unable to arrive. She sighed disappointed as she had tried a new outfit and curled her hair to look a little bit different. She was about to ask for the check to pay her drink and leave when someone called her.

"Helen?"

She turned her head and saw Trent Carson, her former crush from high school greeting her.

"Hey, nice to see you." she said standing up and giving him a hug.

"Nice to see you too, are you on your own?"

"Yeah. And you?"

"Same. Occasionally I like to spoil myself here. Their cheesecake is to die for."

Helen was going to ask him to join her, but since he had expressed he wanted to be alone she stopped herself from saying it.

"But if you don't mind some company tonight, I would like to join you. I would like to know what's new in your life."

"Sure, take a seat. I'm seated here." she said sitting down and he sat on the chair next to her.

"Tell me, what do you do now?" he asked.

"I have a small business. I'm in beauty school, and I have a small salon on my sister Hillary's garage."

"That's great, is it doing well?"

"It's growing. What about you? Do you still play soccer?"

"I do. I have a soccer scholarship at Florida Tech. I'm a student of the Mechanical Engineering Department."

The two of them ordered when the waitress arrived and continued their conversation. Not fair from them was Allan Truman, who was taking pictures of them in a subtle way not to be noticed sending them to Sam, who was unhappy seeing Helen was having dinner with another target. He noticed in the pictures there was familiarity between them, and not exactly as friends. He instructed Truman to continue watching them and inform him everything.
