Chapter 44 Entrepeneur
N/A: I apologize for taking so long in updating, I have been quite busy at work and last week I had a short trip to the US making it impossible to update. I hope you all enjoy this new chapter.
Amy was getting inside her car when she received a call from her aunt asking her to buy some milk before arriving home. She grabbed a cart and placed the milk carton and some snacks for her and Aunt Beth. When it was her turn to pay at the cashier, a small round white object with a smiley face on it fell from her purse as she took out her wallet to pay. She picked it and looked at it not recognizing it.
"It's thirty and sixty-nine cents." the cashier said.
"Sure." she answered handing the money.
As she took the bag in one hand, she clutched the strange object in her other hand. She placed the bag in the bag while studying the small object. She knew didn't have it before as it wasn't hers, and then remembered the man who bumped her when she was talking to Sean on the phone. He must have placed it on her purse faking it as an accident. She walked to the nearest trashcan and threw it there before taking a picture of it. She got inside her car looking around to check no one was looking at her. When she felt safe, she slowly started the car and drove back home. When arriving, she tried calling Jeremy, but it sent her to voice mail. So, she sent him a text and attached the picture she took.
A: Hey Jeremy. I found a strange object inside my purse, it seemed somehow technological, and I wanted to ask you if you could help me know what it is since it freaked me out.
She waited for a response but since it didn't come, she went to bed hoping there was nothing to worry about.
"So, at what time is your flight?" Jesse was asking on the phone.
"At ten. Thanks again for taking me to the airport." Paige asked while preparing a small suitcase in her dorm.
"You are welcome. We can stop to have breakfast before your flight."
"Thanks Jesse. "
"You are welcome. I'm miss you in the holidays."
"Same. But we'll see each other soon."
"I wanted to ask, what did your dad say about us?"
"He's actually cool with it. Why?"
"Just curious."
"Don't tell me you are nervous that my dad doesn't likes you." she asked gasping.
" I do want him to like me, to know that I am no player and don't want to fool around with her daughter."
"Chill, my dad is nice. And I promise I'll put a good word to him about you."
"Thanks a lot."
"So, have you told your parents about me?" she asked curious.
"Not yet. My relationship with them is complicated, but I'll tell them soon."
They both said goodbye and hanged the call. She heard a knock on her door and opened it, to which her surprise it was Stacey.
"Hello Stacey, what are you doing here?" she asked.
"I wanted to surprise you with a gift." Stacey answered her extending a white envelope to her.
Paige knew very well it was a check, and as much as she appreciated Stacey's help, she felt she was taking advantage of her help.
"Common love, take it. It won't bite." Stacey answered seeing the hesitation in her.
"You do so much for me, I don't want to abuse your kindness."
"Nonsense dear, you are such a hardworking employee. You deserve it. Every single dollar. Is something bothering you?"
Stacey sat next to Paige in her bed. Paige noticed how she looked around the room, probably amused on how small it was and how to people were living on it. Compared to her own house the dorm was a shoe box.
" I think I rushed into a relationship with Jesse." Paige said tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Why do you say that?"
"I am applying for Parsons, what if I get in? How is it going to affect us?"
Stacey gently grabbed her hands.
"Paige, you still haven't crossed that bridge. You should worry about that when that happens, not before. For now, enjoy every single moment with your boyfriend and with your family and friends."
Paige gave her a hug not wanting to let her go. The sweet moment was interrupted by Stacey's phone that started ringing.
"Excuse me, I need to answer this. It's my ex. Wonder what he wants."
Stacey started talking to her ex, and she seemed very upset. Apparently Dylan was arrested for driving drunk and his father refused to go and bail him out asking Stacey to do it. She ended the phone call angrily.
"I apologize, it's embarrassing you heard what happened. I need to go look for Dylan and interrogate him on what he was thinking. I have to go."
"See you after the holiday. " Paige said giving her a hug.
Sam arrived at Helen's small business located at a small neighborhood house. From what he knew Helen was living with her older sister who let her have her small business in the garage. He rang the doorbell and Helen came out dressed in a flowered sundress and a matching hairband.
"Hello, can I help you?"
"Hi. I have an appointment at three o'clock with Helen. I came for a haircut."
"So, you are Jack, nice meeting you. Helen." she said shaking her hand with his.
"Nice to meet you too."
"Before we start, I need to tell you I don't have much experience cutting men hair. Only with my dad and my guy friends."
"It's all right, we all start somewhere. I appreciate your honesty."
"We are good to start then. Follow me."
He followed her to the garage where she had a chair, a small desk with drawers and a mirror hanging on the wall. As decoration some posters and framed photos of animals and flowers.
"You have nicely decorated." he said looking around.
"Thanks. Take a seat." she said pointing at the small chair.
He sat down and she placed a cover on him. He didn't even matter what she did to his head, she could shave all his hair and he wouldn't care. Just being close to her was enough.
"Tell me, what type of haircut do you want? And before we start, do you mind if I take a picture of you? It's for my social media, I take pictures of both before and after so clients can see my work." she said grabbing her phone.
Sam wasn't really eager to let her take a picture of him, since he knew it could be a risk if she had a picture of him but didn't want to look suspicious. Besides something in him couldn't refuse, and he would ask someone to hack her pages and delete it.
"Sure, why not. What do you recommend me?"
"Are you really asking me?"
"I do. I trust you one hundred percent."
Before she could answer her phone started ringing and she excused herself to answer.
"I'll call you later, I am with a client right now. I'll call you when I'm done. Sure, at eight we'll have dinner at Luigi's. Don't forget to send the address. Can't wait. Bye."
She hanged her phone up and directed her attention to Sam.
"Sorry about that, I have plans for later and I was just confirming. I think you would look great with the sides shorter and the front a bit longer. What do you think?"
"Good for me."
Helen took a picture of him and took her time cutting her client's hair, she was trying to make her client list grow and it would only happen if she did a great job. She knew that the best publicity was being her clients recommending her to their friends. When she was done, he seemed impressed.
"I'm happy, thanks Helen. I like it."
"I'm glad. Do you mind if I take your after picture now?" she asked with her phone in her hand.
"Not at all. Go ahead. How much do I owe you?"
"Fifteen dollars." she said putting away her stuff.
"Take twenty and keep the change." he said pulling a twenty-dollar bill.
"Jack, are you sure?" she asked taking the money.
"Absolutely. I like to support small business, and I know you'll keep growing up.
"Thank you. I hope I can see you again." she said smiling.
"Same Helen, have a great day."
Sam walked to his car and once he sat down, he took his phone and dialed a phone number.
"Yes boss?" the voice said at the other side of the phone.
"Truman, I need your help. I need to check on Helen, she's having dinner at eight on a restaurant called Luigi's. I need to know with whom."
"Sure boss, I'll tell you as soon as I found out."
"Thanks. I'll make you a deposit right now."
He hanged the call and drove home hoping it was not an appointment with a guy. He wanted Helen for himself, and he would get rid of any guys who would get in his way.
