Chapter 40 Open Your Heart

Paige was bored to death, Tracey and Jesse were talking about their modeling gigs, designers they had worked with, clothes, and everything related to their jobs. She would just drink small sips from her iced tea listening to what they said.

"Oh Paige, you are so quiet. I hope you don't feel excluded from the conversation." Tracey said.

"I'm all right, it's fascinating to listen about your modeling experience."

"Are you a beginner model?" she asked.

Jesse was the one answered for her.

"Paige is into the fashion area, she's a talented designer. I have no doubt she'll be as big as the modern designers."

He said this smiling at her in a warm way, making Tracey be upset. Since the beginning it was clear she liked Jesse, and as much as she tried to not show how upset Paige was, it was pretty obvious that she didn't want her there.

"Oh really? Maybe we'll be able to work together someday." Tracey answered sarcastically.

"Please excuse, I'll be right back." Paige said walking towards the restrooms.

She came inside and luckily for her it was empty. She took out her phone and dialed hoping the person she was calling would answer, as she had no idea who else to ask for help.

"Hello Paige, what do I owe you the pleasure of your call?" Stacey said as she answered.

"I'm sorry for bothering you, but I need your help. I'm stuck with Jesse and one of his female friends, and I feel like a third wheel. Can you call me in five minutes so I can pretend to leave? I'll owe you big."

"Sure, I have no problem sending Bernard to pick you up. Send me the address, I'll send you a text instead when he's outside. If they ask tell, them I asked you to come for an urgent matter. That's it. When you arrive you can tell me everything."

"You can tell Bernard to take me to the campus, you might be busy."

"Not at all dear, I'll wait for you here."

Paige sent her the address and went back to the table. She was not wanting them to think she had been stuck inside. She sat back and they were still continuing on their conversation. Tracey was clearly unhappy she was back. The waitress placed on the table a whole pizza and garlic bread.

"Girls, feel free to eat. I'll pay." Jesse said grabbing one garlic bread.

"I'll give you ten bucks." Paige said grabbing money from her purse and placing it on the table.

"That's not necessary." he said motioning her to grab it.

"I want to help, take it."

The three of them started eating and ten minutes later she received Stacey's text message indicating Bernard was outside. She felt relieved as she was no longer wanted to see Tracey.

"I have to leave guys but thank you for having me here." she said grabbing one last garlic bread.

"Wait, why?" Jesse asked concerned.

"Stacey texted me asking me for help in a business matter. "

"I can drive you right now, just let me ask for the check."

"Don't worry, she sent her chauffer for me. Thanks anyway and enjoy your evening."

Only he said goodbye, and she walked as fast as she could. She greeted Bernard and got inside the limo which was driven back to Stacey's house. Paige entered the house and was guided towards living room where Stacey was laying down on a masseuse bed with a woman massaging her legs.

"Sorry Stacey, I had no idea you were pampering yourself."

"Please take a break, I'll call you back." she said to the masseuse.

Paige waited for the woman to leave and sat next to Stacey who grabbed a robe to cover herself. Stacey asked her what happened, and Paige told her everything, how Tracey had not been happy with her being with Jesse, and how she needed the urge to leave.

"She sounds like a two-faced bitch. " Stacey said taking a sip of red wine. " Do you want a cup too?"

"Sure, why not? After this it can help me." Paige answered serving herself wine.

"That's the attitude. I'm sorry for what happened, I have an idea on how uncomfortable it must have been for you."

"Tracey was acting as I had a plague, she must be thrilled right now having Jesse all for yourself." she said sighing and drinking.

"You are jealous, aren't you?"

"Excuse me?"

"How does it make you feel knowing they are both on their own right now?Does it bother you somehow?"

Paige remained quiet; she did care for him as he had always supported her. He was a good friend to her.But knowing he was with another girl, made her feel uncomfortable. Deep inside her, she knew she was feeling jealousy. It angered knowing how Tracey was flirting with Jesse.

"Dear, if you have feelings for him you need to tell him." Stacey said caressing her arm." If you don't, you'll lose him. Girls like Tracey are piranhas wanting to take a bite of good guys like Jesse. You can't wait forever, or he'll eventually look for someone else. And  I like the idea of you two together. "

" For real?"

"For real. Now let's chill for the rest of the night. I'll tell Briana to give you a massage as well." she said standing up.

"That's not necessary." Paige said shaking her head.

"Trust me, after what you have shared with me it is. Relax, and eat chocolate flavored strawberries with. Dylan is at his father's and we both need to chill right now. "

Paige smiled for herself; she was really lucky to have Stacey in her life. More than a boss or a friend, she had become in the motherly figure she needed. She let herself be pampered and she certainly felt better after the massage she received.

Jeremy had rushed into his room as fast as he could. Luckily for him Micah was out and he shut the door locking it. He plopped himself into the bed, not knowing what to do. To learn that Jason wanted to abort him was something he didn't expect to learn, and yet he knew it now. He just couldn't be in the same place as him. A knock was heard, and he thought it was Micah, who ocassionally forgot his key.

"Damn it Micah, can you just hang your key around your neck?" he said opening the door to find Jason behind it.

"We need to talk." Jason said in a firm voice.

"How did you know which was my room?"

" I pay your tuition, and I said I'm your father at the information office. Let's talk. Please. "

"Fine." Jeremy said moving to the side so he could get inside.

Jeremy sat on his bed while Jason sat on the other one to see him front to front.

"Jeremy, what happened at the restaurant? I thought everything was going well. What changed?"

"I don't feel this like will work."

"Why not Jeremy? I'm making an effort. Are you really that eager to exclude me from your life?" Jason asked placing his elbows on his knees.

"You got yourself excluded from my life for seventeen years. How does it feel Jason?"

"Fine. I deserve that. I was a jerk, an asshole, an idiot, a coward. Anything you want to call me. But I do want us to have a relationship, as a father and son. I really do."

"Let me ask, did you really ever want me? How did you react when my mom told you she was pregnant?"

Jeremy wanted to test him, to see if he was really honest. He knew the answer to the question but wanted to see if he could really be honest. Jason gave a huge breath before answering.

"I'm not proud of what I told her, I told her to have an abortion." he made a pause and continued. " I was scared."

"So was she, and she was the carrying a baby. And I don't think she ever thought about it."

"You are right. I should have acted differently back then. I should have never told her that, and I'm glad she didn't listen to me because she did a great job raising you. Trust me when I tell you that I regret not looking for you before the time I did. I shouldn't have approached you the way I did so you could help Emily in her sickness. That was selfish of me. I know it was. I promise you not to ever abandon you again, and you'll count me for anything."

Jeremy felt the sincerity in his voice. He seemed embarrassed on his actions, and he was honest about the abortion topic. It would be a long way, but Jeremy believed it was worth it. He knew a part of him wanted to get to know him better too.

"I guess we can take baby steps and form a relationship. " Jeremy answered.

"Thank god. You are not going to regret it. I promise."

"If that's what you want, I'm okay with it. My flight is tomorrow, would you like some coffee with me?"

"Sounds great. By the way, I want to tell you about someone I met. Her name is Jamie."

" Let's go a nearby cafe and you can tell me everything about her."

As they left Jason placed his hand on Jeremy's shoulder and he felt a connection with Jason for the first time. As they walked to the cafe he noticed a man who seemed to be following them, and caused him to be intrigued. He decided not to alarm Jason but decided to be aware of this man.

Amy got ready for the first bachelorette party that Hannah would have, Aunt Beth helped her braid her hair and placed small yellow flowers on it. She wore a flowered skirt and a white shirt with silver flat sandals. Before leaving she grabbed the two boxes of red velvet cookies that her aunt prepared and placed them carefully on the back of the car. She was excited now to have a car and a license permit, she was thankful to Sean that he would let her practice with his car and when she took her test it was easier.

She arrived to the address that Hannah shared with her, which was a bar called "Silver Bottle". The hostess told her there was a small section of the bar that was reserved for the party, guiding her to it. When she opened the sliding door Hannah was inside with a white short dress with a "bride to be " band in white letters. She gave her a hug as soon as she saw her.

"Hello Amy, so glad you could come."

"You are welcome, my aunt sent this." she said handing her the cookies.

"She's amazing.Let me introduce you to  my other bridesmaids."

Amy greeted the four bridesmaids: Melissa, Becca, Angie, and Nina. Angie and Nina were brunettes while Melissa and Becca were blondes. They greeted her as well.

"So you are Sean's sister, you are adorable." Becca said giving her a Hawaiian flower necklace.

"Thanks. You girls did a great job planning all this. " she said looking around. The place had colorful flowers around and some tikis in the corners.

"Glad you like it, it's only the first bachelorette we are planning for our dear Hannah." Melissa answered while giving Hannah a hug.

"And just wait for the stripper to come, it'll be awesome." Angie giggled.

"I told you girls, no strippers." Hannah said alarmed.

"Common, you need to enjoy your bachelorette life while it lasts. Not as if Sean won't have strippers." Becca added.

Amy was about to defend her brother but Hannah spoke first.

"We both agreed we are not having strippers. Please girls, respect my wishes. That's all I'm asking for."

"Fine, but we need to party huge." Melissa said serving some drinks.

The girls started with the games, starting with the "Drink If" game, with similar rules to the ones of "Never Have I Ever". It was different in which they read lists of ifs and they drank if it applied to them.

"If you are wearing a thong." Melissa read while gulping her drink. So did Angie.

The others girls giggled.

"Your turn Amy." Hannah said.

"If you have a body piercing. Not the ears." Amy read the card.

Becca took a sip causing surprise to the others.

"B, where do you have a piercing?" Hannah asked.

"On my belly." she said showing her belly button and laughing.

Amy excused herself and went to the restroom. She entered the last stall when she heard people entering.

"Such a shame Hannah didn't want a stripper; it would have been so much better."

"I know, she can be such a bore sometimes."

She recognized the voices as Melissa's and Becca's.

" You heard what happened with Adam? She invited him to the wedding, and he refused." Melissa said while opening the faucet.

"Really? They are no longer friends?"

"Adam Gellar is a complicated man. I think still he resents she never returned her feelings. Can you believe it?"

Amy knew they were talking about Adam Gellar, her former English teacher at Mackenzie.

"But that's childish from his part. If he was really her friend, he would move on and be happy for her. He really needs to grow up."

"Tell me, who would you pick? Adam or Sean?" Becca asked.

"Sean. He seems nice. I do believe he's a good guy."

The girls left and Amy walked away from the stall washing her hands after flushing the toilet. It had not been her intention to listen to their conversation. From what she heard Hannah and Adam were no longer friends, and somehow, she felt sorry for him. She went back to the party where the waiter started serving the food. As he approached the table to place the food, it seemed to her that he had seen him before, but she just couldn't place her finger. She tried to not look at him in a direct way, but occasionally gave him a glance. After some minutes she knew where she had seen him before. The time she went visit Connor he was the cab driver who took her to the airport. How was he in Connecticut a month ago and now he was in Florida?
