Chapter 30 Abduction
Paige was walking with Stacey on their way to get to know the client who was going to buy the wedding dress. Stacey seemed quite sure she would love it, and Paige was just wanting to be positive as well. Would her design really captivate the bride to be? She was about to find out. They entered to her workshop where her dress was on a mannequin covered with cloth close to a desk. The client was on her mid-twenties, with her long black hair tied in a bun and wearing jeans paired with a polka dot shirt and beige low-heeled sandals. She greeted Stacey happily with a hug.
"Nikki, so happy to see you."
"Thanks for having me, Stacey, I want to know what you have for me."
"You're going to love it."
Stacey walked and removed the cloth from the mannequin showing the dress, Paige was looking at her dress, and yet it seemed unreal for her, as she just imagined it on paper and on her head. Now that she was seeing it for real it seemed a dream.
"What do you think?" Stacey asked excitedly.
Nikki stared at the dress for a minute while walking around it for a better perception, but for Paige it felt like an hour. She was just hoping she liked the dress.
"I love it Stacey, it's perfect. You outdid yourself." Nikki said hugging Stacey.
"Thanks darling, but I can't take credit for it. She's the brilliant mind behind the dress."
Stacey grabbed Paige's hand and introduced her to Nikki.
"Her name is Paige, she's the one who designed it."
"Hello." Paige said shyly.
"You certainly did a great job, sweetie. You have future in this industry. I'm taking it."
Paige felt on cloud nine. She was being encouraged and her work was being recognized and applauded. When Nikki left Stacey sat with her on her office offering her a check, that made Paige almost faint seeing the amount. She was giving her five thousand dollars.
"Stacey, are you sure about this? It's a lot of money." Paige asked.
"You deserve every dollar darling, unless you want more, I can arrange it. " she said taking out her check book from a drawer and grabbing a pen from her desk.
"No, not at all. Thanks. " Paige answered placing the check inside her purse.
"Paige, you should never underestimate yourself. You need to trust yourself more. Do you have any plans? I would like to take you to dinner. You need to celebrate."
"Sounds great. Thanks."
A knock was heard on the door, and Dylan came inside as soon as his mother said "come in". He was carrying in his hands Paige's sketchbook.
"Hello son, I wasn't expecting you. Do you need something?" she said crossing her arms.
"Mom, can I speak with Paige?"
"Sure son. Are you free? I'm taking Paige for dinner and maybe you want to join us. "
"Thanks, but I got plans already."
"I see." she directed her attention to Paige. "I'll wait for you at my limo in the parking lot." she said grabbing her purse and walking away.
Dylan waited for his mom to leave, and he sat next to Paige. He seemed nervous, which was very different from his usual self. It was the first time she ever saw him that way.
" I texted you, didn't you read my texts?"
"Sorry, no. I was busy with your mom." she said checking her phone, and indeed she had several text messages from him.
" I wanted to give you back this, Lucy denied she had it, but I managed to get it back. And I'm done with her after what she did to you. She lied and stole; I can't be with someone like her."
"Thanks for giving it back."
"And I wanted to apologize for not trusting you when you told me she stole your notebook."
"It's all right, she was your girlfriend. I understand why you defended her."
"For real? I thought you would be pissed at me. I was a horrible friend."
"That's water under the bridge, I'm not mad at you. For real."
"Do you mean it?" he asked.
"Every word. If you excuse me, I have to go out with your mom. The client loved my dress and is buying it."
"Wow, congrats. That's amazing."
She stood up, and so did he giving her a long hug. After a while they separated and went out of the office. They both said goodbye to each other, and she entered the black limo parked.
"Everything is good?" Stacey asked.
"Everything is perfect."
"Good, I believe you'll enjoy the restaurant I'm taking you to. Charles, take us to The Golden Truffle."
Paige was thrilled, she still couldn't believe her dress was a success. She texted her friends in the group chat they had, and she knew they would be equally excited for her. When she was done, she looked for Jesse's number and started typing but couldn't press the send button. She knew he would be happy for her, but after the last time she saw him, she was unsure if things would remain the same between them.
After finishing her college assignments, Amy found herself trying her bridesmaid dress. It was a pale pink dress with a lace on her waist. The dress had an asymmetrical cut, being longer on the back. She was looking on the mirror looking herself well how the dress fitted her. Her thoughts were interrupted with Hannah coming to see her.
"You look adorable. Like a small fairy." Hannah said excitedly.
"You mean it?"
"Yes, the dress fits you perfectly. Do you like it?"
"My opinion doesn't matter as much as yours. You are the bride."
" But you are my future sister-in-law, I need to know you are feeling comfortable." Hannah said grabbing her hands.
"The dress is lovely. I'll do my best to make you proud."
"I know you will. Sean told me you and Connor reconciled. Is he going to be your plus one? We need to confirm the amount of guests at the venue."
Amy had considered it, but since the wedding was in three months, in March, he might still be in classes at the time and might have trouble traveling. Either way she had to try and ask him.
"I haven't asked him, but I will, and I'll confirm after I text him. "
"Good, I hope he can come. You may change now; the dress looks great on you. I'll tell the seamstress your dress needs no modifications. "
Before entering the dressing room, she grabbed her phone and texted Connor a picture of her with the dress looking at the mirror.
A: My bridesmaid dress, do you like it?
C: It's perfect for you. Be careful not to outshine the bride.
A: I would never. I would like you to be my plus one, are you free on March?
C: Sure, I can have arrangements done. I won't miss the chance to see you wear that dress.
A: You are the best.
C: You are. Love you Sugarpie.
She smiled seeing how he was calling her Sugarpie again. It was wonderful that they were back together again, and she wouldn't let anything, or anyone interfere between them. She went to the dressing room and changed into her clothes.
Jeremy was trying to read a chapter of his book, since he had to prepare an essay, but was being constantly interrupted by Micah. He loved his friend but he felt like hitting him on the head with the book so he would just shut up and let him do his homework alone.
"Seriously Jeremy, I'm saying this as your friend. We need to go out and celebrate your birthday."
"I don't want to, I have too many things to do." he said using a highlighter to underline some lines from his book.
"Your birthday is in three days; we need to go out and have at least a drink at a bar. Don't be such a bore."
"I'm not a bore, I'm just being responsible."
"Not everything is books and homework bro, you need to go out. Since you came from Thanksgiving Break you have changed. I know you hoped getting back with your ex, but life continues."
" She was my first girlfriend, the first girl I loved. In fact, I still do. It's not that easy. " Jeremy answered closing his book.
"I know it's not easy, but you need to make an effort and move on. Being attached to the past will just make it worse. I got ideas to celebrate your birthday. You need to distract yourself as well."
"Fine, we'll go out and do something, anything you plan. Just promise me it won't be something loud or scandalous."
" Thank god he accepted, Jamie will be thrilled. After all he's single now and she can make a move. I'll give her a call right now to tell her the good news."
"No problem, Jer. If you excuse me, I need to make a phone call. I'll be right back." he said standing up.
Jeremy saw him leave the dorm and knew who he was going to call, he knew Micah was trying to set him up with Jamie. He wasn't agreeing with his tactics, but somehow, he appreciated his efforts to cheer him up. He had demonstrated he was a good friend to him. He didn't feel ready to date again, but he could hang out with Jamie. After all she was his friend and enjoyed sharing time with her.
Dana was changing herself to jog at night, for her it was better at night since it wasn't that hot and there were no people. Since her classes were all in the morning she had decided to exercise at night. She was changed into her sport clothes, putting on her jacket and went downstairs telling her parents she would be back soon. She locked her door and started walking around the block, the night was cool, and it was perfect for her jogging. One of her sneakers was untied and she bend down to tie, when she unexpectedly felt someone was behind her and a syringe was inserted on her neck. She tried her best to scream and ask for help but her eyes felt heavy and closed. She was carried by the stranger who took her inside a black van looking around he was not seen by anyone.
"Hurry up." he said after placing Dana on the back and buckling his seatbelt at the front.
The strangers drove to a mansion and carefully took Dana inside not wanting to be seen by anyone. Dana was placed on a white couch, at the same moment a third man, wearing a lab coat appeared and spoke to them.
"You got her?"
"She's right here. " one of them answered pointing to Dana.
The man in the lab coat stared at Dana for some minutes and screamed angrily at the two men.
"Fucking idiots, that's not her!"
"She is boss. She's the one who can become invisible. We followed her around and captured her."
The boss had a pile of files on a table and grabbed one, and opened showing it to his men, it had a picture of Amy and information below it.
"This is the girl you were supposed to bring, fucking jerks. You brought the wrong girl." he said pointing at Dana.
Both men looked at the picture and the girl laying down, it was not the same one and realized their mistake after looking at her carefully.
"Sorry boss, we got confused. They are both brunettes and... "
"I want no excuses; this is your first and last mistake. You better take that girl back home and bring me the correct one. And the other six as well, it's your job to do a proper investigation and next I'll tell give instructions. Now leave before I do something I'll regret." he said snapping his fingers.
The same guy who carried Dana inside grabbed her again as the other guy hurried as well leaving. The boss sat on the couch regretting having hired useless men who clearly had made him lost his precious time. He looked again at the files he had and studied them quietly reading each one of them. Seven in total. All of them former students at North Mackenzie High School, four guys and three girls, who had been affected two years ago in the Reptile and Amphibian Lab accident, place he previously owned and worked on. He had wanted to abduct them during the Thanksgiving break, yet some of them left the state and had no chance, he had been informed Amy Wilkes was easy to capture but his men brought him the wrong girl. He grabbed his phone and looked at the calendar. Luckily for him December was close and Christmas season was happening, meaning the ones who had left would eventually come back, and that would be his chance to have them all together and study their abilities. Since he was a patient person he knew he would have all of them in his hands.
