Chapter 24

Luke was halfway to the delivery room when he was stopped by two familiar Jedi from the Council.

Luke blinked at one specific Master staring up at him. "Master Yoda. I did not know you had returned."

"Yes...much has happened I see." The small green Jedi said with a frown.

     "Uh...yes Master...but I can explain-"

Yoda held up a clawed hand, stopping Luke's attempted explanation.

"Skywalker's son, you are then?" Yoda asked simply.

Luke nodded, lowering his in shame. "I didn't mean to lie Master."

"We understand. We said we trust you, and we still do. The supposed destruction of the Jedi that you mentioned, abled us to prepare. We...we still lost many fellow Jedi, but the casualty rate could have been much higher if it wasn't for you. And as for Anakin..." Mace paused, allowing Luke to take in the information. "...he may stay in the Order."

"You...you're letting him stay!?" Luke said with a broad smile.

"Yes...but off the Council he must be until ready to be a Master he is." Yoda said.

"I think he'll understand." Luke said with relief, bowing in thanks to the two Jedi.

"Skywalker, one last thing." Mace said before Luke could dart off. The Jedi Master sensed the boy's nerves and his anticipation to get wherever he was going. He cocked an eyebrow and Luke blushed.

"My mother...she just went into labor." Luke said.

"Oh." Mace said. "Well...I was wondering how you're going to get back to your own time? Since you are being born right now..." The Jedi trailed off, sharing a perplexed look with Master Yoda.

Luke frowned. "I...I didn't think about that. I don't know how I'm getting back."

Yoda smiled kindly. "Find a way, we will."

"Thank you Master." Luke said with a shaky breath.

The Jedi let him past and he sprinted back where he last saw Anakin and Obi-Wan turn a corner.

He was going so fast that he ran face-first into a chest. Yelping, he stumbled backwards before two hands steadied him with a chuckle.

He looked up to see Obi-Wan smiling down at him. "I looked back and you weren't behind me, so I waited. Anakin's already inside."

Luke nodded, biting his lip. "Do you really think I should go in?"

"What do you mean?" Obi-Wan asked.

"Well...it is myself being born...won't that break the universe or something? A paradox, right?" Luke asked.

Obi-Wan stroked his beard in thought. "I suppose...I've never really dealt with time travel before."

Luke chuckled nervously. "Yeah, neither have I."

"I don't think it should be too bad. Besides, Anakin will need all the support he can get." Obi-Wan said.

Luke sighed, nodding in agreement. But when he turned to enter the room, Obi-Wan stopped him once more. "Yes?" Luke asked.

Obi-Wan looked embarrassed with what he was about to say, but it came out anyways. "You called me Ben when we first met...so you must know me in the future. If I may ask...I don't look too old in 23 years, do I?"

Luke couldn't help himself, he laughed. Obi-Wan frowned. "If it makes you feel any better, when I was a kid, we all called you 'That Old Wizard/Hermit Kenobi'." Luke smirked.

Obi-Wan groaned. "Of course you did."

A scream came from the delivery room and both men jerked. Luke paled considerably. "Mother..."

"Luke!" Obi-Wan grabbed for the boy, but missed when he darted into the room, slamming the door and revealing a screaming Padmé on the bed with Anakin by her side, gripping her hand tightly and murmuring encouragements.

Both he and the nurse glanced up when they saw Luke barge in with Obi-Wan behind him.

Anakin sighed in relief. "Luke. Obi-Wan. Hurry...the babies are coming."

Luke nodded, rushing to his mother's other side and grasping her other hand. He blinked at the strength that Padmé had as she gripped on his hand, her squeezes getting tighter and tighter as she cried out in pain, panting and gasping.

Obi-Wan moved forward as well, helping the med-droid and the nurse.

Anakin's nightmare returned to him as his wife screamed his name. His swallowed down his nausea and smiled at her, glad he could finally answer and protect her. "It's alright angel, I'm right here. You're doing great."

"Just a few more, Senator, it's almost over." Obi-Wan said.

      "I...thought...there were...two babies...ahhh!" Padmé panted in annoyance.

Obi-Wan blinked. "Yes. Right. Then I guess it's not almost over."

"Ahhhhh!" Padmé screamed, half in pain and half in frustration.

Suddenly, another wail echoed in unison with its mother's, and a baby appeared in the nurse's arms. Quickly wrapping it in a blanket, she handed the child to Obi-Wan.

"It's a boy." The droid said.

All eyes fell onto Luke as he stared at the baby in Obi-Wan's arms. The world hadn't shattered, the universe hadn't collapsed...everything seemed alright.

"Luke." Padmé gasped the name, thankful for the brief break before another contraction hit her hard.

The process began again and a thought occurred to Luke as his sister was being born.

"I never knew I was the oldest sibling." He muttered to himself in thought.

He caught Anakin smile at him right before another baby's cry echoed through the room.

"It's a girl." The med-droid said as the doctor passed the second child to Anakin.

"Leia." Padmé said before sighing in relief, gasping at the after effects of the pain.

The vital monitor began to beep dangerously and Anakin paled. "Padmé?"

The nurse blinked in confusion, hurrying for the woman's vitals. "Miss, what seems to be wrong?"

"I...I don't know. Are...are the children alright?" She panted.

"They're fine angel. But are you?" Anakin asked, still cradling his daughter.

"I...I'll be alright. I'm just tired." Padmé said.

The vital monitor slowly began to return to normal and relief spread through the room.

"She'll be fine. It's most likely just the stress of a premature birth. She wasn't due for at least another month or two." The doctor said, adjusting Padmé's bed and IV.

     "And the babies?" Obi-Wan asked.

"Yes...because of the premature birth, we'll need to keep them in the nursery for awhile, make sure everything is alright. But I'll tell you this, their lungs are perfectly healthy." The nurse said with a smile, gesturing for the babies.

"Do you mind if we keep them for awhile?" Anakin pleaded, staring lovingly at his daughter's tiny, wide brown eyes.

Obi-Wan still held the other baby, cradling it with extreme care. Luke walked numbly towards his former Master and stared at the child. The boy was currently asleep, having somehow worn himself out by crying his first cries.

Luke hesitantly reached out a hand and Obi-Wan reluctantly handed the baby to the boy. Luke was so surprised he nearly dropped the poor thing, much to Padmé and Anakin's horror.

"S-sorry." Luke stuttered, wondering if his shaking arms wanted to make him commit suicide.

"Cradle the back of his head with this arm." Obi-Wan instructed.

"Of course." Luke said, taking the baby. Then, as if by magic, the baby's eyes opened, revealing brilliant blue irises...his own eyes.

"Are you alright?" Anakin asked him worriedly, noticing how pale the boy was.

"Y-Yeah." Luke said, his blood running cold as his past self just stared at him from his own arms, uncomprehending of how impossible the situation was.

"Is everything alright?" The nurse asked, confused as to why everyone was so tense with one boy holding the child.

"Yes of course." Anakin reassured her.

The nurse sighed. "Well, you may keep the children for a while, but then I must return. As for you Miss Amidala, I mist ask you to rest."

Padmé nodded, giving a small smile. "I will. Thank you."

When the nurse left with the med-droid following behind her, Padmé gestured towards Luke.

Luke gratefully lowered the baby to his mother's arms and she took him lovingly. Smiling, she stroked his almost invisible blonde fuzz.

She looked back into her husband's arms, smiling also at the little girl, her fuzz slightly darker, taking after her mother.

"Twins..." She whispered with adoration in her eyes.

     'Luke!'

Luke snapped his head up, glancing around in confusion.

"Luke, are you alright?" Obi-Wan asked him.

"Leia?" Luke asked distractedly to the air. The name caught his parents attention and they saw the faraway look in his eyes.

      "Sweetheart?" Padmé asked him.

'Luke, is that you? Oh, I thought you were dead! Where are you?'

'Leia, how are you talking to me?'

'What do you mean? Didn't you say I was strong in the Force too?'

      'No not that...I just...well it's actually a long story.'

'Luke, what's going on? When are you coming back? I'm seconds away from dragging Han to the Falcon and coming after you...wherever you are.'

'Leia, look...I'll be home soon, I promise. Don't worry about me.'

     'But Luke, I-'

Suddenly, the mental connection snapped and Luke gasped, collapsing.

He vaguely heard the voices around him, shouting in surprise. The nurse rushed inside the room, hearing the shouting, and saw Luke barely conscious on the floor. She called for assistance, and several more doctors and nurses ran in the room.

"Luke, Luke! Please, don't do this to me again." Anakin pleaded, his daughter now in the arms of a nurse as he frantically tried to bring his son around.

His head was lolling, his bright blue eyes rolling into his head. "L-Leia." Luke slurred.

     "Your sister?" Obi-Wan asked, worried.

Padmé tried to sit up, worried, and still cradling her present day son while her future son laid motionless on the floor. However, the doctors wouldn't let her get up, fretting about her condition.

"Forget about my condition, help my son!" She shouted.

"Senator, your son is perfectly fine." A nurse said, gesturing towards the cooing and oblivious infant in her arms.

     "No, he's not." Padmé sobbed.

"I...I'm alright. T-Timeline is...catching up with me. I...fixed the future. Technically...I no longer exist." Luke said weakly, slowly falling limp in his father's arms.

"No...I won't let you. You can't leave, not yet!" Anakin pleaded, tears brimming his eyes.

The doctors and nurses stared in confusion, realizing there was nothing they could do for the boy.

"I'm still here father...you saw me being born, did you not?" Luke said with a painfully weak smile.

     "But-"

"No...he's right Anakin. It's only natural. Luke simply cannot be here any longer. It'll disrupt the normal flow of time." Obi-Wan said softly, putting a hand on his former apprentice's shoulder.

Anakin sighed, staring at Luke in his arms. "I'll be alright..." Luke said slowly, fading fast.

A bright white light began to flash in Luke's vision and he desperately took a last fleeting glance at his family before everything went dark.

A/N

I hate to say this is the last chapter right before the Epilogue, but don't worry!

I have another book planned and ready to write after I finish this one.

And if you like time travel fics, you're in for a surprise. (I really like time travel fics if you haven't noticed. XD)

This time, instead of Luke traveling backwards, Anakin will be traveling forwards. A completely different story, as this one will take place all through ROTJ. I hope you guys have liked this book and will continue to read all my others. :)

PS - I really want to thank @theseinfinites for the really sweet note she wrote about me and my book, in her new story, Into the Dark, which I am now really excited to read and suggest you guys read! :) I also just want to thank everyone who has kept up with this book and left awesome comments. Thank you all so much for making me smile!

Edit April 17th, 2017: What do you think of the new trailer? It's my favorite by far that i've made. Enjoy! :)

May the Force be with You,
