Chapter 21
Ki-Adi Mundi, Yoda, Mace Windu, Commander Cody, and Aayla Secura were talking via holograms when Luke and Anakin entered, disturbing the conversation.
"You're late." Mace said with a faint scowl.
"Please excuse us." Luke said suddenly, startling not only Anakin, but everyone else as well. "We were in the medbay for myself, and I take personal responsibility for our tardiness."
There was a brief silence before Master Yoda spoke up. "Alright, are you Starkiller?"
"Perfectly fine Master Yoda, thank you for the concern." He said.
Yoda lowered his head in acknowledgement and both Anakin and Luke joined the circle.
Commander Cody cleared his throat. "As I was saying, General Kenobi has wanted to get in contact with the Council for awhile with some information which he deems for the Council's ears only. But, besides that, we have engaged General Grievous and he has been eliminated by General Kenobi."
"Thank you, Commander. We will speak to Obi-Wan now, concerning the other matter." Mace said.
The clone commander nodded and saluted, backing away for Obi-Wan to appear through the hologram. He looked around the room and spotted Anakin, the one he really wanted to speak to, but was slightly annoyed when he saw his ever present son right beside him. He swore that boy clung to his father like a magnet.
Luke caught Obi-Wan's reaction and hid a wince, not meaning to trouble his former Master like so. He could sense the Jedi Master's frustration, one specific and unshielded thought running through the man's mind.
'He's only standing there Kenobi, it's not like he can just throw you out of a speeder window again.'
Luke fought back a sudden giggle, instantly turning it into a cough. Anakin looked at him with confusion, but he waved it off.
Obi-Wan cleared his throat. "Um...Masters...this concerns Luke."
No one really looked all that surprised, much to Luke's own shock.
"Continue." Mace said rather impatiently.
Obi-Wan sighed, realizing his hint at asking them to dismiss Luke from the room had not worked. He loved the boy, he was very full of life, but the fact of who he was kept picking at the Jedi and his mind of logical reasoning. Luke couldn't be possible. He was older than Anakin, and yet his son.
The Force worked in mysterious ways indeed.
Obi-Wan knew at this point, the Council would have some vague assumption of Anakin's relationship with Padmé, but he still looked at his former apprentice before he spoke, knowing that Anakin knew exactly what he was about to say.
Anakin looked at his former Master and sighed, reluctantly nodding his approval.
Obi-Wan nodded in response and turned back to the Council. "Luke...Luke Starkiller is in fact Luke Skywalker."
No collective gasp.
No anything.
Just more blank stares.
Obi-Wan furrowed his brow in confusion. Did the Council just have no emotions at all? He could practically hear Anakin telling him, 'I told you so.'
"A brother? A cousin? We need specifics, Master Kenobi." Ki-Adi said.
Obi-Wan sighed. "Right. Of course."
He saw Anakin and Luke looking at him with nothing but trust and focused on how to word what he was going to say next properly.
"Well...I have reason to believe, with Grievous confirming it, that Luke has somehow time-traveled through the Force and is in fact Anakin's...son." Obi-Wan said rather hesitantly, not as jittery to announce the news as he had been the other day.
The bewilderment he had been waiting for finally came after he finished speaking.
The present Council members blinked in astonishment and disbelief.
"You're sure?" Aayla asked.
"The truth, Master Kenobi speaks. But him, questioning we should not be. Our questions, answer young Skywalker will." Yoda said.
Luke felt all eyes on him and took a deep breath, lifting his head, unwavering. "Ask away."
"How did you get here?" Mace asked immediately.
"I don't know. It was sudden and unexpected." Luke said truthfully.
"If Knight Skywalker is your father, then he has broken the Jedi Code. Who, may I ask, is your mother?" Ki-Adi asked.
Luke looked at Anakin, who, despite looking nervous, nodded.
"Yes, my father has broken the Jedi Code, but not in such a bad way you claim it to be. Love is not a thing to be forbidden, it's something to be cherished. If anything, it's a force strong in the light side, not the dark. Attachment is different, more greedy-like and possessive. Love is about compassion and care for someone other than yourself...and that's what the Jedi are all about, are they not? But, as for your question about my mother, her name is Padmé, but is publicly known as Senator Amidala." Luke stated.
They all listened to Luke's description of the difference between love and attachment intently, but stopped short when his mother's name was revealed.
"Senator Amidala?" Mace asked with wide but not all that shocked eyes.
Obi-Wan muttered something that sounded vaguely like, "I knew it."
"Yes. But please hear me out...there is evil amongst us and I know that I was sent here to stop it. You'll have to trust me completely when I say Anakin and I have to do this alone. The Force created the prophecy of the Chosen One and didn't like the way it turned out originally. I...I was its failsafe in a way." Luke said.
"A failsafe? What happened originally in your timeline?" Aayla asked.
Everyone watched with growing horror as Luke paled. "I...it's hard to talk about."
"Surely it couldn't have been all that bad, right?" Obi-Wan asked, trying to be optimistic. Luke's dark expression wasn't helping.
Luke noticed his father had been oddly silent the whole meeting and turned to see the man white in fright and staring at Luke with obvious worry.
Luke sighed, wondering why the Force had chosen to show Anakin of his future as Darth Vader. At least he hadn't seen everything he had done as a Sith Lord. It may have closed him up permanently. But as he realized the entire Jedi Council, who he knew all to be dead at his point of time, was staring at him with barely suppressed fear, he knew he had to tell them.
"When I grew up I didn't know about the Jedi because...well they didn't exist. They were all labeled as traitors to the Republic sometime near the end of the Clone Wars and eliminated. It was known historically as The Great Jedi Purge and the only survivors I met in person were Master Kenobi and Master Yoda, but they died later on as well. I'm sure there were others...but the Empire, the government that took over as a dictatorship, had them all marked for death. All Force sensitives in fact, trained or not, were killed as well, which was why my sister and I were hidden after we were born. Children of the Chosen One were bound to have a bright Force presence." Luke said all in one breath, hating even speaking about the terrible events that had yet to occur for the people in front of him.
There was a tense and ominous silence as they all simply stared in unspoken horror at the boy from the future, a future where they were all supposedly dead.
Mace was the first to speak, his voice sounding slightly hoarse at the revelation that shook him to the core. "Do what you have to, Skywalker."
Luke looked up in surprise and saw the solemn faces around him. "I will. I promise you, that future will not happen."
"May the Force be with us all." Obi-Wan muttered, summing up everyone's thoughts with a sentence which usually brought hope...but now brought fear of the unknown.

After discussing more diplomatic issues about the war, the meeting was finally adjourned. However, Anakin and Luke were asked to deliver the news of Grievous's death to the Chancellor, since they now had to directly report to him.
Once Luke's revelation had settled, the Council had decided to pardon Anakin for breaking the Jedi Code for the time being, however Luke sensed that they were beginning to trust Anakin more, albeit only a little.
As Luke and Anakin walked silently towards their speeder to head towards the Senate building, Anakin stopped, swearing. "I forgot to contact Padmé. I think she'd want to know about you being our son, don't you think?"
Luke smiled lightly. "Yes, but this will only take a moment, right? Mother will still be there when we return."
Anakin chuckled. "It's still such a strange thing to hear you call her that. But I suppose you're right. Come on, no need to keep the Chancellor waiting."
"Of course." Luke said rather tightly. Anakin gave him a quizzical glance.
"You always seem different whenever the Chancellor is mentioned. It's even worse when you're around him." Anakin noted with slight curiosity. Now that he knew Luke was his son from the future, he had every reason to think the boy was hiding something.
"I don't know what you mean Father." Luke said simply, surprising Anakin by slipping into the driver's side of the speeder.
"Um, what are you doing?" Anakin asked.
"Driving." Luke said, starting up the speeder and gesturing Anakin to get in.
Anakin put his hands on his hips. "No way."
Luke looked incredulous. "You've let me drive before! What's different now?"
"I know you're my son. And you don't get to drive until I go through your proper growth stage and reach the point of parenthood where I have to worry about speeder crashes and other teenager stuff." Anakin said, grabbing Luke by the collar and hoisting him out of the speeder.
Luke stared with shock and a bit of amusement. "Wow, maybe I shouldn't of told you that I was your son." He said with a small laugh.
Anakin sighed as Luke got into the passenger side. "I'm sorry Luke. It's just...I don't want anything to happen to you. You do get you haven't even been born yet, right? I'm a father already and I didn't even get to prepare. I've already almost lost you, I won't let it happen again."
Luke bowed his head for a moment before he leaned over and wrapped his arms around Anakin's neck. "You won't lose me Father. I'll be alright."
Anakin nodded, running his hand reassuringly through Luke's blonde locks and marveling in the fact that he was holding his living, breathing son. The same son that was currently still developing inside of his mother's womb as they hugged. The thought was so strange that Anakin reluctantly broke out of the hug.
"Well, at least Padmé and I won't have to stress about baby names anymore." Anakin said. Luke giggled.
"My sister's name is Leia by the way." Luke added.
Anakin smiled. "What's she like?"
Luke's face morphed into thought. "She definitely looks like Mother...but I think she got your personality. I already told you she's a politician, but she's very brave. Beautiful too, a great sister. Her and my friend Han are really starting to develop a relationship I think...but I haven't seen either of them for awhile."
Anakin noticed Luke's sad tone. "You miss them." He said, stating it instead of asking it.
Luke nodded.
Anakin sighed, and then some of Luke's words clicked in his mind. "What kind of a relationship?"
Luke blinked at the question and then started to laugh. "A romantic relationship, Anakin. Oh my, I can't wait to see the look on Han's face when he meets you."
"Who is this Han? I want to know more about him. Luke I'm serious." He said firmly as Luke continued to laugh hysterically.
The boy wiped a mirthful tear away and apologized. "Han's a Corellian smuggler who I met back when I was 19. He offered me a ride and ended up helping me rescue Leia from Imperial custody. He's not all that bad."
Anakin rolled his eyes. "My unborn daughter already has a boyfriend, and out of every man in the universe, she chose not only a smuggler, but a Corellian smuggler."
Luke chuckled a bit more before delivering the final blow. "He's also ten standard years older than her."
Anakin said nothing as he pressed the gas on the speeder and sped through the traffic. "You wouldn't happen to know where this kid currently lives would you? We could always pay him a visit and--"
"Father!" Luke cried with another laugh, trying to picture a young, mop-headed Han Solo casting wide hazel eyes up at Anakin as the man attempted to strangle him. Now that he thought about it, Luke would probably pay credits to see that. Han would never hear the end of it from his blonde friend, that was for sure. "You'd go lecture some poor kid for something he hasn't even done yet?"
"Hey, is it not a father's job?" Anakin asked innocently.
Luke shook his head with a smile and enjoyed a long awaited conversation with his father the whole way to the Senate building. But as soon as they landed, a dark sense of foreboding came through the Force and both father and son stiffened.
"Come on Luke, let's go." Anakin said softly, gesturing his son forward.
Young Skywalker...don't keep me in suspense...I'm still waiting.
Luke took a deep breath and tightened his grip on his lightsaber.
Your father will be mine boy, no matter what petty tricks you try.
That's where you're wrong, Sidious. Today is your last day in power. Luke countered.
We shall see...
