CHAPTER TWELVE
"I haven't been very fair to you, " Seokjin mumbles awkwardly, "and for that I'd like to apologize."
Yoongi stands before the genie with a nonplussed look on his face. Honestly, he'd just wanted to step outside for some fresh air. But the moment his feet had touched the landing Seokjin had cornered him. The reaper expected that the genie would have more ridiculous words for him, but certainly nothing like this.
"I mean it, " the ifrit pushes, "I really am sorry. I was an ass, and I really didn't have any personal reasons to behave that way."
"Sure you did, " Yoongi replies, throwing Seokjin for a loop. "Even if your reasons were based off of rumor and hearsay. It's not like I don't know what people think of my kind, and to be honest, not everything you've heard is entirely false."
"You're different though, aren't you?"
Yoongi shrugs at the ifrit's question. Truthfully, the genie is entirely correct, but what will it matter if he says so? And if he answers this question, the genie will only find a few hundred other questions. Questions that Yoongi doesn't really want to answer.
Just because Seokjin is apologetic doesn't make him want to explain himself anymore than he had when he was being an ass.
Jeonguk is hungry. It isn't like he hadn't eaten dinner with everyone else or anything like that, but still. He's always been a big eater, and the recent lack of on hand snacks is killing him. He could seriously go for a little late night snack right about now. Unfortunately, he already knows what Jin will say. There's no way that the genie will let him go to the store alone, and he'd be surprised if he were willing to go with him either.
Brianna probably would, but the werewolf is also pretty sure Jin would try to prohibit her from going as well. Besides, she's likely already fast asleep.
And he doesn't dare ask the reaper.
He still finds it odd that the reaper is pursuing some semblance of a relationship with Brianna. By their very supposed nature, such a thing shouldn't be something a reaper would go for. Hell, until previously, he wasn't even aware reapers were capable of fucking. But if the sounds that come out of Brianna's apartment are any indication this one most certainly is.
Unable to stand the way his stomach is gnawing at itself a moment longer, Jeonguk rises from his makeshift bed. Sharing a room with Seokjin isn't all bad, except for when the ifrit snores. Though Jin adamantly refuses to believe that he is capable of such a thing, it's the truth.
Briefly, he wonders why Seokjin isn't in bed yet. Normally he'd already be snoring away by now. Of course, as he exits the storage room turned extravagant bedroom he realizes why the ifrit is suspiciously missing.
He's conversing with the reaper. Or, really, it's more like he's conversing at him. Yoongi looks like he isn't really paying Seokjin much attention, despite the fact that the genie seems to be apologetic. Looks can be deceiving, however, because even though the dealer looks as if he isn't paying much attention he clearly is. Neither of them notice Jeonguk at all.
The young immortal eyes the door, wondering if he can make it to the nearest convenient store and back before the two even realize he's gone. Then again, he supposes that he really doesn't even need that much. As long as he can get out the door and halfway down the street before either of them notice, he'll get his late-night snack. Sure, he'll probably get an earful from Jin too, but it wouldn't be the first time.
Cole is beyond frustrated. He is livid. Absolutely enraged. If something doesn't change, and soon, he's going to have to abandon this perfect hideout. Already he's heard several murmurs amidst the residents about the smell. Not that he can smell it, but apparently decaying corpses have a rather unpleasant aroma. As of yet no one seems to have linked the smell to death, but it's really only a matter of time. A few brave souls have even knocked on the door, and demanded that the couple assumedly residing within clean their apartment.
It doesn't help that Cole, while patient, is reaching the end of his endurance. He'd been so close to having his little seer, he'd had her in his arms, just close enough to finally taste. If not for that goddamned reaper he'd already have buried himself within his Agathe a hundred times over. He'd have claimed her and been well on his way.
He continues to stare out the window, anger and irritation rising and curling within him. Once he finally gets his hands on those meddlesome friends of Agathe's...
He's going to kill them. Slowly, so slowly that they will hurt. They will cry, and beg, plead for the mercy that is death. And he'll grant it to them. But only after their spirits are broken beyond all repair.
It is as he is imagining all the ways that he will torture the genie in particular that he notices movement from the shop. The moonlight reflects off of the glass door as it opens, and he almost can't believe his luck.
Finally, one of them has stepped out.
It is the werewolf, he notes. Not the highest on his shit list, but he's claimed a spot nonetheless. The wheels in the Nephilim's head begins to turn, and he curbs his murderous impulse for just a moment as he contemplates his next course of action.
He could kill the brat. He could. But what good would the kids immediate death serve? Agathe clearly cares for the runt, so how can he utilize that to his advantage?
Suddenly, he is struck by an idea so brilliant that it brings a malicious smile to his doll-like lips. He's willing to bet that if he were to take the boy hostage, Agathe would more than likely rush to his rescue. She might even be willing to trade herself for the boy. Gleefully, he rubs his hands together. This is just the opportunity he's been waiting for.
With deft and excited fingers, Cole unlocks the latch upon the window and lifts the pane up. Easily taking his ethereal form, he floats down to the ground, landing only a few feet from the oblivious werewolf.
This will be far too easy.
It is with a start that Hoseok awakens to a vision of things to come.
Before him stands Brianna, trembling with fear but eyes resolute and determined. She's come to this warehouse to save Jeonguk, and she won't back down. She won't run away. Not even when Jeonguk screams, and begs her to leave with his dying breath. The nephilim's hand pulls away from Jeonguk's lifeless corpse, heart in hand. There isn't even any blood, and as he crushes the heart of Brianna's long time friend it crumbles to dust before her eyes. And even when the nephilim, with cold murder in his eyes, strides towards her with clear homicidal intent, she refuses to leave. He just killed Jeonguk, and she is overcome with the desire to see him pay for it.
"You fucked my father, " the nephilim spits harshly, "didn't you? Don't be coy. I heard all about it from the runt."
Brianna, eyes wide, lifts her head defiantly.
"You were meant to be mine, " he snarls, "but you betrayed me. I can smell him all over you."
"I would never have been yours, " Brianna spits, face clearly displaying her disgust. "You're crazy."
"And who's fault is that?" The Nephilim snaps. "Dear old daddy, who abandoned mother and I to the shitty fate that he bestowed upon us? He promised to love her forever, swore that she was his heart. But the second his seed caused her belly to swell with child, he abandoned her. Rather than stay and protect us, he fucking left! Like a coward!"
"He wanted to protect you, " Brianna argues vehemently. "Reapers don't get freewill, not without fighting desperately for it. He was afraid that he would succumb to the God's commands, and he didn't want to kill you."
"That's complete and utter bullshit. Did he tell you that? Did he also tell you that he loves you? I bet he did. I bet he professed his love for you every time he fucked that sweet little cunt of yours, but it was a lie."
"He's never claimed to love me, " Brianna retorts. "I think you have a very skewed impression of your father."
"Really? Because he's coming to kill me right now. I can sense it you know."
"That's because you're a murderer."
"And he isn't?"
"No, " Brianna replies firmly, "he isn't."
The Nephilim reaches forth, and grabs a fistful of Brianna's hair. Violently, he yanks her to him and smashes his lips against hers. She struggles, kicking and screaming, punching and clawing. But the Nephilim simply swallows her screams, groaning in obvious pleasure as he pushes her forward, slamming her back against the wall. Tears stream down her face as his hands rip away her shirt, leaving behind only pale and vulnerable skin.
The bastard smirks as the sound of beating wings becomes nearly deafening. His father has arrived.
The reaper crashes through the window beside them, jet black wings folded against his body to protect him from the glass that shatters upon impact. The Nephilim looks Yoongi straight in the eyes, and grins as he runs his hand straight through Brianna's chest.
He rips her heart from her body, cackling in glee as the reaper cries out.
"Nooo!"
Meanwhile, Brianna too has awoken to a vision. It's the first one she's had in ages, and as such, the force of it nearly knocks the breath right out of her.
With wide eyes, she watches the scene unfolding before her.
Jeonguk shivers, cold and hungry. He isn't scared, he tells himself. He could never be scared. This asshole isn't worth being afraid of. But no matter how much he tells himself that he is too tough, too strong to feel fear, he trembles nonetheless. Because the truth is that he is terrified.
How stupid of him, to get captured like this. All he'd wanted was a goddamned churro, or maybe a tornado. He's going to die, because of his craving for convenient store fast food. How pitiful.
"You might as well just kill me, " Jeonguk snarls, feigning bravado. "Brianna won't come for me. Jin and Yoongi won't let her."
He wants to believe that, he truly does. But he also knows Brianna better than that. The woman is stubborn to a fault, and there isn't a force on this earth that can stop her once she's made up her mind. Jeonguk doesn't want to die, if he's being entirely honest. But if he can get the bastard to kill him now, his death will at least serve a purpose. If he dies now, Brianna won't come. She'll stay safe.
"Oh she'll come, " the nephilim retorts, eerie smile on full display. "And I won't kill you until she does. She needs to be disciplined, needs to understand that she shouldn't have been hiding from me all this time. But don't worry, I'll allow her to name one of our children after you or something."
To the nephilim's surprise, and clear displeasure, Jeonguk laughs. It is a deep, throaty, hysterical kind of laugh. The kind one might release when they've heard something so incredibly stupid that it can't be true.
"Oh boy, " Jeonguk snickers, "is that what you've been after?"
The werewolf's face grows serious, dark and challenging even.
"I'm afraid your shit out of luck then buddy, " he continues, eyes dark and calculating as he attempts to push the nephilim's buttons, "the only person Brianna's likely to procreate with is Yoongi. Honestly, with how often the two fuck I'd be surprised if she isn't pregnant already."
Of course, Jeonguk knows that isn't possible. Brianna has been on birth control for as long as he's known her, an awkward fact that he only knows because of the amount of times he's watched her take the damn pills. But he hopes that if he can rile the guy, maybe he can get the freak to lash out. But as the nephilim staggers back, clutching his chest as if he'd been stabbed, the young immortal realizes that he might have just made a grave mistake.
"You're lying, " he groans, tears pricking at his despicable eyes. "She loves me. She wouldn't. She-"
"She doesn't even know who you are, " Jeonguk interrupts. "To Brianna, you're a creepy ass stalker that is ruining her life."
"No!" The nephilim screams. "She saved me! She loves me! You lie!"
Smack!
Blood erupts from the sudden split in Jeonguk's lips. The bastard punched him in the face! The werewolf rattles at the silver chains imprisoning him to the wall, ignoring the way his flesh hisses and burns as a result of his agitated movements.
"You're a dead fuck, " Jeonguk snarls. "Just wait and see."
