Chapter Four

The room was silent as he thought about the situation, and his predicament. It would help him greatly but was it the right thing to do. His mother needed help and he couldn't be here at all times. He sighed shakily and looked at them before nodding and giving in.

"Alright... do some training with Ratchet and then we can talk about it..." Magnus said seriously. She smiled and kissed his cheek before leaving him.

"You won't be disappointed!" She called and left the home. She smirked as she went to her car. This was her chance to get close to Magnus and have him all to herself. It didn't take long to be approved and she was moving into the home a few days later. She would need to tend to the woman as much as possible.

Once the woman was settled, he went over where important things in the house were located. She kept checking him out and smirked as she watched the cop. He didn't notice as he explained a few things and pointed other items out. She paid attention to his words and where he motioned. Still capturing glimpses of his muscular body and build.

"Any questions?" He asked as he looked at her. She blinked and smiled brightly as she looked at him.

"Nope! Just peachy." She smiled and he stared at her before leaving the room they were in. "What time do you get home?" She asked as she followed.

"Normally five at night. But I get home when I get home." He said seriously as he went to his mothers room. He tended to her wounds and had closed the door for privacy.

"Well... what do you think about her?" His mother asked as she smiled a little and let him help her.

"I... honestly don't know... but I need a caretaker for you..." he whispered and sat by her side. She weakly gripped his hand and watched him intently.

"Give her a week... if it doesn't work... it doesn't work." She said gently and he gripped her hand then kissed it as he squeezed his eyes shut.

"She... she's asking for pay... I mean... it's understandable... but... I don't know if I can afford it..." he muttered. She gripped his hand and looked at him.

"We can make it work...." she promised and he nodded as he hung his head. She set a hand on his cheek, trying to comfort him. "This will be a good thing." She mumbled as he held her hand and nodded.

The first day went without any issues and Magnus only relaxed after the third day. His mother seemed happy and Careen was doing a good job with helping around the house. The first full week was pleasant and they felt at ease with her there. Though after the first month she started to get irritated.

Magnus wasn't around as much as she had hoped, and his mother was such a burden. She started to get lazy and not do as much, if he confronted her she complained about not having enough time to herself. He felt bad and gave her a raise, though he struggled to pay the bills. His mother started sobbing herself to sleep, knowing she was the cause of his misery. He worked longer shifts and Careen got mad when he spent his free time with his mother.

"Why can't you ever spend time with me?" She sobbed as he looked over his mother. "You don't trust me to get the work done either? You have to check everything I do?" She whined.

"If you would do your job properly the first time, I wouldn't have to do it myself!" He shouted at her as he snapped finally. He whipped around and glared at her. "I hired you to help me care for my mother, not eat me out of house and home!" He snapped. She blinked and just stared at him for a moment as tears filled her eyes.

"Are you calling me a pig?" She asked then burst into tears. "You're so cruel!" She cried and ran out of the room. He slammed the door behind her and sighed shakily as he rested his head against the wall. His mother was silent as she watched him and fought back tears.

"Magnus?" She whispered quietly after a few minutes. "I'm so sorry..." she rasped and he looked at her, tears in his own eyes. He walked over and gently gripped her hand.

"Don't be... I made an error on my part..." he whispered as he stared at her while gripping her hand. He had chased away the only help he could afford.

"We... we can still make this work." She said as she looked at him with tears falling down her face. "I'm so sorry to be such a b-"

"Don't. Don't you dare say that." he muttered as he looked at her then kissed her hand. "You are not a burden.... and you never will be. I'm going to fix this." he whispered and got up then went to find Careen. The said woman was sitting on her bed crying in her hands. Magnus walked to the door and looked at her.

"I apologize... for... offending you." he said quietly and she shook her head as she continued to cry. "I... wish to make things right... perhaps you could take a few days off...." he muttered.

"No... don't worry about me.... I.... I can do better.... I promise." she said and looked at him as her tears fell. "Just... give me another chance...." she pleaded and he hesitated before nodding slowly.

"Okay.... okay...." he whispered. "Take a few days off then come back." he said then left the room. she smirked and wiped her tears away then packed some bags. He cared for his mother and called into work to get the time off, apologizing as the chief asked him questions. He couldn't put his mother into a home. He just couldn't.

That night he went to bed late after getting everything in order, making sure his mother was comfortable and locking the doors. Around midnight, the back door quietly opened then closed without a sound. The figure walked through the house with ease and went to the cops room, his door opened softly and the figure walked in. Careen looked at the sleeping man and gently caressed his face.

"You'll be all mine soon enough." she said as she smiled in the darkness. Magnus grunted quietly as she touched his face and fiddled with his hair. She smirked and gently kissed his head as her hand rested on his chest, feeling his heartbeat. "I'll free you of the burden soon enough." she said gently, then silently left the room.
