"William!" Queen Sonia hollered. The tiny lobster burst through the door seconds later, chest heaving.
"Yes, your h-highness?"
"What is happening with my little Eddie bear?" Bill didn't think twice before answering, shrugging.
"Wuh-well, he's in love. And love ca-can do strange things to a person," Bill sighed, Stanley on his mind. He didn't notice the queen's interested expression.
"Oh! And who may the lucky lady be?" Bill, still in his lovesick state, answered right away.
"Actually, h-he's head over heels for P-prince Richard." Queen Sonia quickly turned an angry shade of red.
"What!?" She barked. The sharp noise brought Bill back to reality.
"Well- I- he- uh..." He sputtered.
"He's in love with a human prince?! This is unacceptable! William, you take me to the place you found him at today!" Bill obeyed wordlessly, frightened at the prospect of facing the queen's wrath.
They swam out to Eddie's hideout. Queen Sonia took one look, raised her trident, and vaporized it. All the relics, every treasure, gone in an instant. Bill let out a soft cry, one of surprise and fear.
"That'll teach him," she smirked, brushing her hands together. Eddie swam in leisurely, freezing when his mother and Bill looked back at him. The lobster sadly mouthed an apology. Catching a glimpse of his decimated hideout, Eddie's breath hitched, and he let out a choked sob.
"How- how could you?!" He cried, staring at Bill, the ultimate betrayal scrawled across his face.
"Trust me baby, it's better this way. You can't love a human. Especially not a boy." She spat.
"You don't know what's best for me." Eddie's voice was barely above a whisper, but it stood, unwavering, in the face of Queen Sonia.
"Excuse me?"
"You don't know what's best for me!" Eddie screamed, red hot tears dissolving in the ocean water. His cheeks turned pink with rage, his tail thrashing angrily. He glared into the eyes of the Queen, fury flashing in his dark irises. Eddie turned, swishing his tail dramatically, before speeding off into the dark water.
"Hey kid." Eddie jerked around. Twin cackles filled his ears, the blackness of the water doing nothing to help him see. He felt a slight zap on his shoulder, the cackling close to his ear now. He grabbed blindly, gripping onto a slimy tail.
"Hey, watch it!" Eddie flinched, but refused to let go.
"Who are you? What do you want?" The double laugh rose to his eardrums, smacking against the sensitive tissue.
"We are Victor and Belch," the sinister voice hissed. "We want you to come with us." Eddie hesitated.
"And why would I do that?" he questioned.
"We can help you, Eddie. Just come with us and all your dreams will come true." Eddie contemplated the offer. He wanted nothing more than to be face to face with Prince Richard again.
"Ok." Victor and Belch cheered, each eel grabbing one of Eddie's arms. he squirmed in their grasp, so the slimy appendages tightened their grip, forcing Eddie to go along with them through the dark water.
Eventually the trio made it to a dimly lit cave. Eddie's eyes darted around, fearfully scanning for any sort of danger.
"Ah, Victor, Belch, it's about time!" An echo crawled along the cave walls, the acidic voice drumming its way into Eddie's ear. A huge shadow crept along the rocky barriers, the creature the icy voice belonged to. Eddie trembled, still held captive by the two eels. "Now, what do we have here?"
The creature finally appeared, revealing the biggest octopus Eddie had ever seen. He had long, black tentacles, complementing the purple skin of his body nicely. He stared viciously at Eddie, as if the giant octopus had been long awaiting a merman meal. Eddie gulped, struggling in the tight grasp of Victor and Belch.
"Edward Kaspbrak! And to what do I owe the pleasure?" He smiled, a twisted, evil grin. Belch decided it would be smart for him to answer for the mer.
"Uhhh, boss, he wants-"
"Shut up, you moron! I asked Eddie here what he wanted!" Henry growled. His head snapped back to stare at Eddie, hunger in his eyes. "You know, I help people. I can get you what you want... but I'll need something in return."
"I want to be human," Eddie stated confidently. A smirk crossed over Henry's features, his black and purple exterior practically glowing with power.
"I can make all your dreams come true, Eddie. But I can't just let you have something for free now, can I? Let's see..." Henry stated into Eddie's soul, cold black eyes chilling him to the bone. "Ah! You're in love with the human prince! Well then, I'll give you three days. You must get the Prince to kiss you within those days. If you succeed, you will remain human and get to live out the rest of your life with the Prince. But if you fail..." Henry smirked. "You will join the rest of the souls who couldn't pay the price!"
Eddie frowned. It seemed like a good deal, but it also didn't seem like Henry was satisfied. He cocked an eyebrow, looking suspiciously at Henry.
"Deal?" The giant octopus offered.
"Deal."
"Oh, and one more thing," Henry raised a tentacle, grabbing a shell. " I'm going to take a down payment first. How about... your voice!" Eddie gasped.
"But how will I get the Prince to kiss me without a voice?" Henry rolled his eyes.
"Use your body, be sexy. The Prince won't be able to refuse a slut like you," he commented, shoving the shell closer to Eddie's face. "Now, if we have a deal..." Eddie nodded apprehensively. "Sing!" Eddie opened his mouth, a beautiful siren's song blowing past his lips. He glowed brightly as his voice was stolen away. Henry snapped the shell closed, trapping Eddie's angelic voice.
"Perfect. Now, to make you human." Henry snapped his fingers, and Eddie's lungs sputtered. Victor and Belch dragged him up to the surface of the water, dropping him on the beach. Eddie groaned, coughing up water. He opened his eyes slowly, frozen in awe of his new legs. They were smooth, and matched Eddie's tan skin perfectly. He rose to his feet, stumbling slightly at the new sensation. He heard shouting coming from someone nearby.
It was then Eddie realized he was butt naked.
He panicked, grabbing an old sheet someone had left on the beach and tying it around his waist. He fell to the ground, his new legs still weak. The people came closer, and Eddie could just barely make out the face of Prince Richard and a couple of his guards. He gasped, surprised at how quickly he would come face to face with his crush.
"Hey, are you ok?" Eddie tilted his head to look the Prince in the eyes. He froze, unsure of what to do. The Prince gently took Eddie's hand, helping him to his unsteady feet. When Eddie stumbled, Prince Richard scooped him up bridal style. They walked back to the palace, flanked by two guards.
"How did you get there?" He asked softly. Eddie out a hand over his throat, tapping it rapidly. "You... can't speak?" Eddie nodded. The Prince looked down sadly. "Oh. You must not be who I'm looking for, then." Eddie frowned. The Prince glanced back at him, confusion in his eyes.
I was so sure he was the boy from the beach... Prince Richard thought to himself. The boy looked about his age, oddly familiar. He smelled of sea water and salt, which was probably from being washed up.
"Why don't you take a shower? Dinner won't be ready for awhile..." He suggested, biting his lip. "I'm Richie, by the way." Eddie nodded. "What's your name?" He was met with silence. "Oh, wait... hold on..." Richie rummaged through a drawer, producing a pad of paper and a pen. He handed them to Eddie.
"What's your name?" He repeated. Eddie wrote each letter carefully, doing his best to be neat. In the ocean, they did most of their writing on seaweed, engraving the plant with a sharp piece of coral. He was new to paper, and he didn't want to waste it. He finished writing, showing the pad to Richie.
"Eddie, huh?" He smiled. "Alright Eds, then why don't we get you cleaned up?" Eddie frowned. He went back to the pad, scribbling something down, not caring about being neat. He flipped the pad towards Richie, who read the barely legible script.
"'Don't call me that. Eddie is already a nickname,'" Richie chuckled, pinching Eddie's cheek. "Cute cute cute!"
~
While Eddie showered, Richie tried to remember where he knew the boy from. When he had first seen him on the beach, Richie had thought the boy was the one who saved him. Except the boy had a soft, beautiful voice, and Eddie had none.
Richie groaned. Why did this have to be so complicated? The cute boy, currently in his shower, was mute. The boy who saved him was nowhere to be seen. And yet Richie felt like he was missing a piece of the puzzle.
Richie froze when Eddie stepped out of the bathroom. He was wearing a too big pair of Richie's sweatpants, and a large sweatshirt that hung down to his knees. He also no longer smelled of the sea. Instead, a delicious scent of strawberries and vanilla filled the room.
"Well hey there, Eds!" Richie exclaimed, poorly covering up his shock at how cute Eddie looked. Eddie just blushed, fumbling with the hem of the sweatshirt. "A little big for you, huh?" Richie grinned. Eddie's cheeks flushed darker, causing Richie's heart to skip a beat. The small boy really was adorable... but no, Richie wanted to find the boy who saved him.
"Dinner?" Eddie nodded. "I hope you like lobster. The royal chef makes a mean lobster roll!" Richie exclaimed, pumping his fist. Eddie's eyes went wide. Lobster? Oh, if only Richie knew...
