Chapter 5 - Tonk's House
I step out of the fireplace and glance around the Tonks' home. It is covered in antique furniture but still looks modern. Large plants are on every surface, gaining tons of sunlight from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Brightly colored patterned tile covers the living room all the way to the kitchen. The sun catchers in the window reflect intricate patterns across the parlor.
I quickly turn around when I see a flash of green from the fireplace behind me, "Well, Nyphadora will show you to your room, so that you can settle in," Andromeda announces.
I follow Dora up a spiral staircase to a floor overlooking the parlor. I am led into a room that has a queen-size, canopy bed with crystal beads and pearls hanging from the top of the bed, going down to the floor. Blue velvet patterned curtains hang on each side of the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall window. It is the star of the room. Large plants hang from the ceiling, covering the ceiling except for the middle where a large crystal chandelier hangs. It looked like something you would see in a movie, not real life.
"Mom said that you can change anything you want. It could use some band posters, but that is my opinion. Dinner shouldn't take too long. Mom is a great cook," Dora rambles.
Margret jumps onto the made bed, looking at the birds that fly by the window.
"Well, I will give you some time to settle in," she announces to my silence before leaving.
I flop onto the bed, landing on my back. I close my eyes and take some deep breaths. The full-body stabbing pain has started. That's what I get for having an actually fun day; I get the consequence of not just exhaustion and overly sore muscles at the end of the day but excoriating pain.
I force myself off the bed; if I don't get up now, I know I won't be able to later. I slowly walk out of my new room and hold on to the stair railing tightly as I start to make my way down. I am met with the delicious smell of garlic seeping through the house and the loud banging of pots and pans.
I carefully walk over to the chairs that sit by the counter facing the kitchen. I pull myself up into the tall chairs, my body being controlled by a stabbing pain in my stomach. Andromeda turns around to look with a grin, not noticing my forced smile.
"Hello, love. Did you get a chance to settle in?" she asks.
I give a quick nod before she turns back around to face the stove, "Dinner should be ready any minute now."
I wait at the counter as she scoops the pasta onto separate plates, then I carry two to the table. I take a seat at the table next to Dora as she rambles on about work. I try to listen and understand what she is saying, but her words do not make sense to me.
"Dora is in training to be an auror," Andromeda explains. "That is like the police or military for the wizarding world."
I nod in understanding at her explanation.
"Oh that's right! I forgot that you were basically a muggle-born," Dora explains.
I look to Andromeda questioningly, "A muggle is someone who doesn't have magic. A muggle-born is someone who has magic that comes from a non-magic parents. When they enter the wizarding world it is extremely difficult for them because they don't have any idea of their new world since they did not grow up with it. They also may face discrimination, like how you may have seen people of different races may face discrimination."
"What's wrong with-" I pause, searching for the word, "-muggle-borns?" I finish.
"There isn't anything wrong with them," she replies as she gives her husband a small smile. "What is called the sacred twenty-eight are the original families of the wizarding world, many of them believe that magic should only belong in those twenty eight families, and no one else. Someone that comes from the sacred twenty-eight is called a pure blood. Another term you may hear is half-blood, that is when someone has a pureblood parent and a muggle or muggle-born parent," she explains.
I try to sort through the information in my head, trying to be careful to not forget anything I have learned in the past two days, but I know I will forget something important with all the information being thrown at me.
"I know it is a lot, but it will all make since after awhile," Ted says.
The Tonk's family continues talking, but I can not hear what they are saying over the ringing in my ears from the pain that the invisible knife in my stomach is causing. I twirl the pasta around my fork to make it look like I am eating as to not offend Andromeda, but the little bit that is in my stomach feels like acid climbing up my throat.
When dinner is finished, I quickly wash my plate and head up to my room.
I grip the side of the bed as I try to put on my new pajamas. I drag myself under the blankets of the bed, but quickly kick them off of my over heated body. I close my eyes, trying to concentrate on anything, but the pain. My ears fill with the sound of rain drops against the large windows. My clothes stick to my body from the cold sweat that covers me. I loose my concentration on the pain and I know that means I am about to pass out.

"Come on Syria Darling, we are going to be late," my new mom says.
I pull the blue dress over my head that my new mom had laid out for me. I'm going to be adopted today, we are all getting ready to go to the court house. I'm never going to have to go back the girl's home ever again.
I have found a family that loves me, truly loves me. They saw my hair change the other day for the first time, and they were shocked but not disgusted. They told me that they love me anyway.
My mom comes into my room and sits me down as she styles my hair. She is beautiful, she loos like an actress pulled from old Holly Wood, I don't understand my new dad but she more than makes up for it. She places the locket that she had given my around my neck, she had said it was her great grandmother's. The locket was made of silver, and it was obviously an antique. It was stunning to me, especially since it was the first ever piece of jewelry I have ever own and that she was willing to give it to me with sentimental value it has makes it even more special. She bends down to pull my socks on then my shoes.
I follow her out of the house and into garage. I climb into the back seat of the car, and she pulls the seatbelt over me, then gets into the passenger side of the car.
I watch two raindrops on the window race each other as the car goes down the roads. Loud thunder causes me to jump and snap out of my daze as the car comes to stop. I look around and notice we are not at the court house, but back at the girl's home.
"What are we doing here?" I ask.
"One second dear," my mom says as she gets out of the car.
I see the nuns and the priest standing in the rain. My new dad rips me out of the car, and half carries me by my arm to the nuns, as I kick trying to get down.
"Wait! Wait! What's happening?" I gasp.
He drops me down roughly next to the nuns, and the priest puts one of his hands on my shoulders, his fingers digging in and I'm sure it will leave nasty bruises.
My mom lifts the locket from my chest, then pulls it off me harshly, breaking the clasp. She balls the necklace up in her hands, then turns away and climbs back into the car. Dad looks at me with disgust, then pulls his hand back before swinging it across my face so quickly it makes the air snap.
"Wait! Wait!" I scream as I try to run to the car, but the priest holds me back.
The car drives away causing my voice to get even louder through my tears, "What did I do!"

It is a little bit of a shorter chapter then normal, but I like how I ended it. How was your week? I'm going to the gyno for the first time tomorrow, wish me luck. I have a lot of symptoms that match up with PCOS, if anyone here has it, I would love some advice. I did post Redamancy on AO3, all of my info is the same over there if Wattpad takes my story down.
