Twenty-Seven
A/N: it's time >:)
Freya's POV:
Thunder rumbles outside and I wince in remembrance. The last time it rained, was the last time I spoke to Paula and Larry.
I let out a groan as I tiredly lean against the kitchen island, rubbing the side of my head in frustration.
How didn't I see through the manipulation? For god's sake, I knew the tactics! All that he said wasn't the truth!
But god, why does it feel like the truth? I hate the way he's making me doubt my relationship. I'm not supposed to worry!
Is my mom right? To have a stable relationship with Yolanda, do I have to stop being Doctor Fate? If I stop becoming him, it feels like I'm abandoning the only connection I have with my father.
But then again...my father always made it clear that he'll always support me. Through my mess-ups and my successes, all he wants is for me to be happy.
And happiness for me is having Yolanda by my side.
"How the hell did you do it, Dad?" I mutter to myself.
"So..." I turn, watching Yolanda enter the kitchen with a small smile. "having trouble finding some water?"
I weakly shrug. "I guess you could say that."
She slowly nods and walks over to the counter across from me to lean against it. "Clearly there was an influence on our...previous conversation."
"I'm sorry for randomly springing it on you." I quickly add. "Sylvester pretty much pissed me off and I thought—"
"Freya, it's okay." She reassured. "I think if we didn't have it, it wouldn't have given me the push to say this."
"Say what?" I ask, curiously watching as she picked at her sleeves until my heart sinks. "Oh. I get it."
Her brows furrow in confusion as she looked up in surprise. "You do?"
"Of course." I walk closer to her, pulling her into a hug which she didn't hesitate to reciprocate. "Yolanda, I like you. A lot. But it's okay if you changed your mind and think we shouldn't be together. I understand. I never want this to jeopardize us and the team. So even if we're not together like that anymore, I will always be there for you as a friend and—"
"What—no!" Yolanda quickly interrupts and pulls away slightly in disbelief. "Freya, that's not what I wanted to talk about."
"Oh...then what?"
She shakes her head in amusement, fixing the collar of my denim jacket. "Do you remember that night when we were searching for the hidden cameras in my room? When...my mom said all of that stuff?"
I wince in remembrance. "Yeah...sorry about that. Listen, if this is about me pissing off your mom—"
"No, no. It's not. It's just...I heard you." She interrupts and immediately I stiffen. "I wasn't too far behind when you chased after my mom but...I heard everything."
Oh crap.
She brushed the back of my hands with her thumbs. "You might not have directly said the words or said it to me yet, but back then, I still had to process it which is why it might have seemed like I didn't want to talk to you when we left my room. I'll admit, at that point, I wasn't sure what my feelings were. Like I knew for sure that I like-like you, but I wasn't sure if I was ready to say it. Especially after...you know."
I quickly nod. "I completely get it. I shouldn't have—"
"But," She gently cut in. "that night when Cameron's grandmother stabbed you? Seeing all that blood... reminded me of the time when you went unconscious after what Eclipso did to you. I was terrified. Terrified of not only losing you," She reaches to cup my face and I couldn't help but lean against her hand. "but never getting the chance to say what I've been wanting to tell you. So, I don't want to go another day—another second without saying this because who knows what else will try to tear us apart again. With our relationship, I've learned that I need to be present to really see our friends, our families, and life. It is so precious and I don't want our worries to jeopardize what we have. I never want to take our relationship for granted because Freya,...I love you."
I blink a few times, unsure of whether I heard her correctly or just to process what she said.
She said it...oh god. Holy shit.
"Hey, guys?" Yolanda and I jolt back, seeing Beth stand near the threshold, wearing her goggles that were lit green with a small smile. "Court wants us back."
"We were just--"
"Something in her eye--"
"Looking for water—"
Beth holds up a hand which immediately makes us stay silent. "Did you guys forget about the little incident at Ripped City?"
My face flushes red as I awkwardly look to the side. "Can we never bring that up? Like ever?"
"Agreed." Yolanda muttered with a slight cough.
Beth tuts as she walks in between Yolanda and I, slinging her arms around our shoulders. "Your somewhat secret is safe with me, lovebirds." She chuckled, guiding us out of the kitchen and to the living room.
"Any luck?" I ask, seeing as Barbara and Courtney were back in the living room with Rick.
Courtney shook her head with a sigh. "Mike's not answering."
"Pat's phone's going straight to voicemail." Barbara added. "What about you, Beth?"
"Zeek's got STRIPE fixed back up, but he hasn't seen Mr. Dugan since he went to the Mahkents'." Beth explained.
Rick places his hands on his hips. "Okay, so let's start there."
"I can suit up and get a head start by meeting you guys there." I suggest which causes Yolanda to glare in my direction. "Specifically, to scope out the place. Don't get me wrong, I want revenge but I won't rush in like Sylvester."
Courtney's phone buzzes in her hands and her eyes slightly widen in surprise until she reluctantly turns away from us, pressing her phone against her ear. "Cameron." She answers. Since she was a few steps away from us, all I could hear is Cameron's muffled voice. "W-What? How do you know that?"
"What's he saying?" I whisper to Barbara but she shrugs in concern.
"Wait, Cameron. Hello?" Courtney lets out a sigh as she pulls her phone away from her ear and turns to us, meeting her reluctant expression. "Cameron says that we'll find Sylvester at the junkyard."
"Cameron told you that?" Rick scoffs. "What are the odds of that?"
"Rick--"
"No, Beth he's right." I cut in, crossing my arms over my chest. "This reeks of Jordan making his son do his dirty work. He wouldn't use his son as a hostage."
"So what should we do?" Yolanda asked.
Courtney shoves her phone into her pocket with a resolute nod. "We suit up."

"I hope your mom finds Artemis." Beth spoke up with unease as the five of us trekked through what felt like a maze through the junkyard.
Normally being at the junkyard never felt this intimidating but the fact that it was dark? It made things a bit harder to see if either Jordan, one of Cameron's grandparents, or even the Ultra Humanite was going to pop out and attack which made us more on edge than ever.
"She still didn't answer your calls, Freya?" Courtney asked but I shook my head.
"They keep going to voicemail. The last time I saw her was this morning when she said that she was heading to Ripped City to clean out Larry's office."
"Icicle made her an orphan." Rick spoke up from beside me. "She'll be here."
"She'll probably show up right when we need her." Yolanda reassuringly smiles. "How does she always do that?"
I lightly chuckle. "I have no idea."
We continue to walk to the next corner, passing by the pile of stop signs until we reached the long aisle of cars, immediately stopping at the sight of Jordan, Lily, Sofus, and Cameron. Sylvester flies down with the staff in his hands but my eyes widen at the sight of my mom next to Lily.
She didn't have any sort of bonds tied around her wrists or a weapon pointed at her. She didn't seem slightly fazed to be in between two psychos. She didn't even look terrified!
"What the hell is this?" I grumble under my breath.
"Hello, Courtney." Jordan innocently greeted. From beside him, Cameron guiltily looks at the ground, avoiding our stares as Jordan gestured to the people behind him. "I stand alongside my family, Freya's mother Inza, and Starman tonight here on neutral ground with only good intentions."
"Well, you can take your intentions and shove it." I spat with a glare before I look over to Inza. "Mom, if he has something over your head, I promise I'll--"
"He doesn't. I'm...aware of the JSA's past differences with them but Jordan is willing to let go of the past as long as I am. I already lost your father...I don't want to lose you, darling. For the sake of Blue Valley," She sternly emphasized. "It's time to let go."
"Where's Pat?" Courtney questioned.
A saddened look crosses Sylvester's expression. "I'm sorry, Courtney. Pat's gone."
Rick, Beth, Yolanda, and I share a look of concern but Courtney stood her ground. "Gone?"
"He came to see me after Jordan and I settled things. I apologized and tried to convince him to join forces with both of us...he refused." He sadly paused. "He went into the woods alone, looking for the Ultra-Humanite who killed him."
I shake my head in disbelief. "Bullshit."
"Honey, I understand that you may be spiraling over Artemis's parents' deaths but--"
"Paula and Larry were my parents too." I cut Inza off with a glare. "And besides, Pat isn't stupid enough to go on his own. He wouldn't! He would've called us!"
"Don't let Freya's bitterness against me affect your decision. If we're gonna get any justice for Pat," Jordan spoke up. "we need to team up, Courtney."
"I don't believe anything you say." Courtney remarked.
"I know I was harsh earlier--"
"You're lying to us!" She harshly interrupted Sylvester. "Both of you. Y-You've been lying since you came to Blue Valley!"
"But I wouldn't lie to you." Cameron gently added. "I'm sorry about Pat. I am so sorry. But the only thing we can do now is work together and stop that monster before it hurts anyone else."
Suddenly, the revving motor engine loudly erupts from behind which causes everyone to turn, watching as STRIPE flew in until it loudly landed behind us.
"Pat?" Courtney hesitantly called out.
"Yeah, Court. It's me." Pat's voice spoke through STRIPE's speaker which causes me to smile in relief. "But that's not Sylvester. It's the Ultra-Humanite."
My heart immediately drops as the rest of us slowly turn and look across in shock in realization.
"Oh my God."
"Are you kidding me?" 'Sylvester' angrily shouted. "Why won't Stripesy die? " He harshly pushes past Jordan before shooting an energy blast toward the robot with a cry, sending the suit to fly back a couple of feet away.
"You egotistical small-minded idiot!" What once was an innocent-pleading expression, my mother's face twisted into anger as she watched Sylvester chase after Pat. "You ruined everything!"
"It's no matter, Ms. Cramer." Lily dismissed. "You have the amulet and the book, don't you?"
"Of course I do." She untucks my amulet from her shirt, seeing as it brightly gleamed. With a smirk, she waves her hand in front of her, making my father's journal and a navy-blue helmet similar to Doctor Fate's appear out of thin air. "It was way too easy."
Before I knew it, she slides the helmet over her head, my eyes widening at the sight of her transforming into a completely opposite version of Doctor Fate. A navy cape unrolls from her shoulders as she holds her hands out, showing them off as they sparkle with black electricity. There were a few similarities from my suit except she wore blue gloves and boots, leaving the rest to be gold.
My knees almost buckle at the sight. This can't be happening.
"Not so fun being on the other side, is it Freya?" Jordan gestured to her as she made herself hover from the ground. "Since I couldn't have a Doctor Fate on my side, I took matters into my own hands. It's only fair, don't you think?"
"Soon, the forces of life and order--all that which ordains the scurvy life upon this miserable globe, shall bend to our will!" Inza exclaims as her eyes brightly glowed white, causing the electricity to violently crackle to the skies. "I am Doctor Chaos!"
Lily aims her hands at us as they emitted smoke. "Now...you freeze, you wicked children."
Inza is the first to shoot up to the skies and I didn't hesitate to fly after her.
I threw quick short energy blasts towards Inza but she easily flies around the attacks, dodging them without a care in the world. "You've got to do better than that, darling!" She spoke with a sinister laugh. "I assumed by now you mastered Doctor Fate's abilities! Perhaps you might know this one when you had the amulet!"
Shimmering blue runes appear in front of her and with incredible speed, they rush toward me.
I quickly fly higher into the skies, dodging the attack and I let out a scoff. "And here I thought the Lord of Chaos had better aim?"
She slowly lifts her hands over her head. "You weren't the target."
I glance behind me and my eyes widen, watching as the stacked broken cars emit a blue aura before they hover from the ground.
"Crap."
I maneuver through the other stacked cars in the junkyard, making the cars crash into the other parked vehicles instead. Unexpectedly, I feel an electrified strike against my back which sends me off balance from flight and roll across the floor.
I lay on my back with a groan but my eyes widen, seeing Inza use her telekinetic abilities to make the last car drop down on top of me.
I push my hands forward, creating an ankh to shoot from my hands which instantly slices the car in half and crashes on opposite sides of me.
"Ah, so you have been doing your reading." She chuckled. She waves her hand in front of her, making my dad's journal appear as it flipped through dozens of pages. "I gotta say if it weren't for the amulet of Anubis, I wouldn't have been able to unlock and translate the history of the Lords of Chaos in your father's journal. Who knew softening an angry little child's heart would be this easy to manipulate? I wonder why Kent didn't teach you that."
My eye twitches at the fake sigh that escapes from her lips. "Oh right...couldn't teach a child with his throat ripped out. My apologies."
I huff in annoyance and since her attention was on the journal, I pick up the split piece of the wrecked car and chuck it at her. She looks up but instantly the vehicle collides with her, sending her flying across the junkyard.
Maybe the Lords of Chaos should've taught her to pay attention.
The sounds of Courtney's gasps causes me to turn, seeing as she stood on top of a red truck. From a couple of feet away with his hand out, Jordan clenches his fist and instantly Courtney falls off of the vehicle in which Cameron sprints to her aid.
"Courtney!"
Since I was behind Jordan, I rush behind him and jump on his back, wrapping my arm tightly around his neck.
This seizes his hold on Courtney which earns a gasp of relief from her but I still tighten my grip. "I'll be damned if you try to kill her first without going through me!" I shout as he angrily tries to throw me off of his back. "You took everything from me!"
"And me!" I look up, seeing as Rick charged at us. "Now Freya!"
I unwrap my arm from his neck but kick my legs at his back. He stumbles a bit forward enough for Rick to strike a punch against Jordan's chest. The impact harshly sends him crashing against the car and collapsing on his chest.
"Don't be a tool, man." I hear Rick scoff as I push myself to stand up, seeing as he took a step closer to Cameron. "You're getting played by your own dad. But I'm still gonna kick your ass."
Before he could take another step, his stance wobbles for a second which causes him to quickly shake his head. He attempts to swing again, sloppily missing as his knee buckles to the ground.
Crap, the hourglass.
I run to his aid but Cameron shoots an ice blast along with Jordan, causing Rick's body to collide with mine. Unfortunately since I was behind Rick, my back takes the harder hit as our bodies slam into the car and fall forward.
"Freya, watch out!" I hear a voice faintly call but I honestly couldn't tell.
"Ugh..." I blink a few times to adjust my vision but someone harshly stomps on my hand, and the sound of an eerily crack rings in my ears as I let out a pained cry.
"Oh, my apologies! I'm a bit of a clutz." Inza taunted, twisting her boot further which forced my fingers to bend further. "Let us go on a trip, shall we?"
She grabs ahold of my collar and yanks me from the ground, flying us in the air once more.

A/n:
Some people might have predicted it but mwuahaha Inza double crossed Freya! Add that to the list of Freya's traumas :) lmao
But on a good note, awwww Yolanda said i love you to Freya! ugh my heart. (but Freya didn't say it back oop)
Four more chapters left and it's the end of Freya's story! There's so much i wanted to get into with freya but of course, i cant throw in everything just in case (miraculously, clinging on to hope lmao) they pick the stargirl show back up.
But maybe I'll throw in a chapter or two about how Inza became Doctor Chaos, small moments between Freya and Yolanda, diff scenarios for Freya and her past, etc etc
Anyway! I hope you all have/had a great day! Bye!
