|9| Save the Last Dance for Me

Watch the video once you get to the dance scene...

———————————

They had been doing a pretty good job keeping it a secret from everyone else in Stark Towers; however, they wouldn't be able to keep it up for much longer.

Back in the 1930s and 40s, they had no other choice but to keep it a secret from society... But even now that it was accepted, they still weren't comfortable with the rest of the Avengers knowing they were gay. Bucky and Steve had always said that it was their business and no one else's.

Until Clint and Natasha's wedding, that is.

Stark Towers was bustling on that hot July day. Everyone was running around trying to get last minute things done while Nat was doing her hair and Clint was getting the venue set up on the beach and everyone was seemingly going mad.

"No—"

"But Nat, c'mon it'll be so co-"

"Tony, NO! You cannot wear the Iron Man suit to my wedding. That's final."

"Ugh fine."

Tony then walked back to his room to pick out something better than his Iron Man Suit... seeing how he was one of the groomsmen.

Natasha had told everyone to wear black and an accent that was matched their personalized suits so Tony eventually picked out a gold tie to wear. Pepper matched with a black dress and a gold sash. Bruce's tie was Green and the woman with the matching sash was Maria Hill.  Thor wore a silver tie and matched with Jane while Sharon Carter wore a blue sash to match Steve's tie which was blue (with white stars on it, of course). The Best Man, (as requested by Natasha) Bucky, wore a red tie matching the Maid of Honor, Wanda, whose sash was red.

Clint was in a black suit and had a purple tie while Natasha wore a mermaid style white wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline and a purple sash to match her fiancée.

Wanda was helping Nat with her hair because they were really cutting it close with the timing. She had been stressed out with all of the wedding planning for the past few months along with missions interspersed, and now that the big day had finally arrived she was completely freaked out.

"Wanda, we really gotta hurry— oh my God it's nearly 7:00 and the beach is an hour away and it starts at 8:00 and—"

"Nat. Calm down. It's going to be fine. I promise you, you won't be late for your own wedding. No worries..... ok I just finished your hair" she said as she placed the last curl into place. Natasha's hair had been grown out just for this day and so she wore it up in a white and purple flower crown with curls spilling out along the sides, her veil perfectly placed on top.

"Thanks, Wanda." She was grateful for all the help. The bridesmaids (Wanda, Maria, Pepper, Sharon and Jane) were all in the room waiting for Wanda to finish her hair and now, all they had to do was pack into the limousine and head to the beach.

7:03

The groomsmen, on the other hand, had been ready for about an hour already and we're waiting for the wedding to start. They had already arrived at the venue and some were sitting on the sand (Bruce) while others were at the bar (Thor and Tony) or sitting at beachside tables (Bucky and Steve).

"It kinda sucks, doesn't it."

"What's that, Buck?"

"I don't know, it's just that we could be walking down the aisle together. Not getting married... I mean as a couple. Kind of like how I'm gonna be walking down with Wanda..." he looked up at Steve with longing eyes.

"Yea I mean... maybe if things were a bit different..."

"Steve. They can be different. Our ties could be matching. We could both be walking down that aisle together in our red and blue striped ties. You—you wouldn't have to pretend to like Sharon anymore for fucks sake. God it kills me that you gotta do that, pal."  he let out a long breath of air.

"I know, I know. But things aren't different, Bucky. We've waited so long to tell anyone that it seems weird to bring it up now... it's almost better to pretend at this point. Especially on a day like today. I wouldn't want to steal Nat's thunder"

"Did I hear Thunder?" Thor roared from the bar.

Steve and Bucky both chuckled in their seats, smiling up at one another.

7:39

After waiting in the sun, the groomsmen headed over to the location of the ceremony: a nice little wedding arch in the middle of the beach- right on the water.

The other guests such as Rhodey, Pietro, Peter, the other Peter and the Guardians, Nick, Vision, Scott, Hope, T'Challa, Shuri and even Loki, were filing into their seats.

It was beautiful. The sun was setting and the lanterns were lit, letting off a beautiful bright yellow fire light. The alignment between the wedding arch and the sun was perfect and the water rippling slowly behind it,  making a quiet splashing sound every once in a while really set the mood. The sky was engulfed in vibrant ribbons of golden yellow, pink, red and orange fading into purple and dark blue.

There was a pianist and chairs strung together with white rope and beautiful calla lilies as well as a rose petal path leading up to the arch. The sight was truly romantic, and the ceremony was about to begin.

The pianist gently tapped the ivory keys and filled the air with soft music as the groom walked down the aisle. Next came Bruce and Maria, then Thor and Jane, Tony and Pepper, Steve and Sharon then - finally - Bucky and Wanda. After reaching their assigned positions at the front, Natasha begins her stride down the aisle. Everyone stands as she walks ever so slowly holding a beautiful bouquet of white calla lilies interspersed with deep purple orchids. A smile crept into her face as she locked eyes with Clint across the way.

9:14

The vows and "I Do's" were said and the group of them walked back down the aisle as they made their way to the cocktail party.

The room was relatively large with white curtains split up by purple wall lights. Tall tables were set up interspersed throughout the room with calla lilies and orchids at each to match Nat's bouquet. The guests all filed in for drinks and finger foods and made their way to the tables.

"That was such a nice reception, don't you think" Steve turned to Bucky at their table of four which was nearest a window at the corner of the venue. There wasn't much of a view though because the sun had already set.

"Yea it was really nice. But the walk down the aisle"

"Okay okay— later" Bucky sent him a look that said 'yea, that's right, we definitely are talking about this later, mister'. Steve smiled and looked over at Sharon and Wanda who were already deep in their own conversation. "You ladies look lovely tonight." He looked over at them as they smiled up at him.

"Ouch— Bucky!" He whispered through his teeth after having been kicked under the table. Bucky chuckled and smiled to himself as he took a sip of his drink. Steve elbowed him... but he hit his metal arm and Bucky looked right up at him.

"Oh Stevie. You shouldn't have done that" he chuckled and grabbed Steve's lapel with his metal arm and yanked him so close that their faces were nearly touching. His smile had faded as he was crushing the fabric within his grasp and he gritted his teeth and breathed out hotly pretending to be furious.

Sharon and Wanda watched, thoroughly confused. Bucky then realized and pushed him away.

"I gotta go to the bathroom" Steve stood, somewhat upset and stormed away.

"I'm gonna go see what's up with him" Bucky stood "sorry— I'll uh be right back."

• • •

He strutted over to the bathroom and stood in the mirror fixing his long brown hair. "Steve?" He called.

"Yea?" He walked out from behind the far wall where the urinals are. He pulled up his zipper as he was walking. Bucky's eyes drifted down to his hands fixing his belt. "Hey! If we can't tell them what's going on with, you know, 'us' then you don't get to look at me like that"

"Free country" He walked over to Steve and pulled on his belt loops, "ain't it?" He planted a hot, quick kiss on his soft lips. "You of all people should know, Mr. America" he added with a light smile.

When Bucky pulled away, he felt empty and dazed, "uhh, yea... I guess it is. But I gotta wash my hands" he pulled away.

Bucky grabbed his arm, "not so fast."

"What is it?"

"Good question, Steve. What is the big deal with us not telling anyone? It's our business and we can keep it to ourselves of we so choose"

"I just- I don't know. It's okay now. It's not like... illegal anymore. We don't have to hide, you know?"

"Just a little while longer, Stevie" he kissed him softly, "we can tell them soon enough"

He pulled away, "alright I guess... I guess that's fine."

"Come on, lets go— Steve what're you—"

"Shhhhh" Steve pushed him up against the wall between two stalls and began to aggressively kiss him.

"Mmm— Steve"

"Don't talk" he shifted them into the nearest stall and locked the door. "Just- give it a minute" Steve fumbled with his belt buckle and zipper.

"Why- such a sudden change of mood?" He let a smirk span across his face.

Steve pulled his pants down and fell to his knees, ogling the visible bump in his underwear. Looking up at Bucky, he said "I don't know... when you— when you talk to me like that, you know, boss me around and tell me what I can and can't do. It just"

"Horny, are we Stevie?"

"Maybe just a little"

"Maybe a bit more than a little," he retorted.

"Shut up, please?"

"Fine"

He slipped his fingers beneath the elastic waist line of his black boxers and slowly pulled them down. Without any notice whatsoever, he took the entire length into his mouth. Bucky let out a choker moan as he grabbed the walls on both sides of the stall.

And juuuuuuuust as he was starting to get hard, "Steve? Bucky? Are you guys in here?" Tony called from the door.

Great. We forgot to lock it.

"Shit" Bucky whispered. "Uhh yea..." Steve looked up at him like do I say something too and Bucky looked down at him like don't you fucking dare say anything Steven Grant Rogers.

So he didn't. "Oh ok, Bucky... did you find Steve?" He called back.

"Oh— yea he's uhh... we're both in here"

"Oh good. We're switching to the bigger venue now so c'mon out"

"Be right out"

"Okay... just fyi we're all waiting for you guys so- just thought I'd let you know" Bucky could hear the amusement in Tony's voice as he shut the door.

Steve rose to his feet, "Buck- we'd better go"

"Now? Right— you know," his voice lowered, "in the middle...?"

"Yes they're all waiting for us"

"Ugh... party pooper" he pulled up his underwear, pants and zipper, then buckled his belt.

• • •

Steve came out of the door first and met Sharon mid way through the crowd.

"Oh hey Steve. Long time no see"

"Yea, I'm sorry about that. I just kinda freaked out a little bit and Bucky talked me down from it"

"You're okay, though?"

"Absolutely"

Bucky came out a minute later strutting, as per usual, towards his date, Wanda.

"And just what do you think you're going leaving me all alone to deal with Sharon?"

"Sorry, sorry." She looked at him in disbelief. "No, really, I am. I just needed to talk with him for a bit, that's all."

"Fine. But you're gonna be right here next to me for the rest of the night, ok?"

"Okay."

The ballroom/dining room was the most beautiful thing they had ever seen. White blanketed most of the room; even though the purple accents were few and far between, they fit the theme perfectly. White cloth on tables, white ribbons and flowers and chair covers and curtains and lights with purple place settings and accent flowers and mini LED lights at the tables and along the walls as well as giant purple bows behind each chair and perfectly draped purple satin across the backs.

They had all just arrived and were currently searching the entrance table for a little arrow with their name and table assignment on it.

Clint (left) and Natasha (right) were to share a two person table once they arrived up at the front of the venue and on both sides of them were the other members of the wedding party.

On the left of Clint would be Bucky then Steve then Tony then Bruce then Thor.

On the right of Natasha would be Wanda then Sharon then Pepper then Maria then Jane.

The guests filed into the ballroom type venue and sat at their designated tables. As soon as they were all seated and chatting, the lights dimmed to reveal the purple and white lights shining up the walls. Everyone went quiet and turned to the grand golden door that was swinging open.

The groomsmen and bridesmaids walked in together, arm in arm, and sat at their respective tables. Then, Clint walked in with Natasha at his arm, big smiles across their faces. Everyone clapped as they walked over and sat in their seats.

"Hey!" Bucky whispered over at Steve who had just kicked him from the side under the table.

"This could be us, you know" he replied with a grin.

"Shut up, Rogers" he smiled to himself and turned away.

• • •

Natasha had her first dance with Clint and the whole dance floor was cleared with all the guests surrounding it.

Since her dad wasn't present, she decided to do a 'father daughter' type dance with Nick Fury. There were even a few guests that  cried, among those was Steve.

"Awww Stevie," Bucky whispered.

"Shut... up" he replied between tears. He wasn't even really crying about Natasha, he was actually thinking about his mom. How her death was so untimely and so unfair. How great of a person she was and how she didn't deserve any of that suffering. The truth is, he really missed his mom and wished that she could have been there for him, that she could have lived a little while longer. And now, seeing Nick and Natasha dancing, all those old forgotten emotions came flooding back into his mind.

"It's alright Steve... it's alright" he put his arm on Steve's shoulder and his other hand on his abdomen- that is, until someone noticed. Then he pulled away and patted his shoulder in a 'friendly' way. "It's alright," Steve nodded and sniffled a bit, then clapped as the dance ended.

• • •

About an hour had passed since the formal dances and everyone was enjoying themselves very informally on the dance floor. The light and music effects were perfect and pretty much everyone was having a great time with their date.

Except Steve, that is.

"C'mon, Steve, dance a little" Bucky nudged over at his friend.

"Nah, I'm gonna go get a drink. Do you want one, Buck?" He replied, yelling over the music.

"Aaaaaaaalright ladies," the DJ began, "it's time for the bouquet toss"

"No I'm good. Thanks, though, Steve."

He nodded and headed for the bar. The women, though, all gathered in a group on the dance floor as Natasha held her bouquet in hand.

Steve arrived at the bar and waited for his drink as Natasha turned around. He began to walk back towards Bucky as the count down to throwing it began.

5 Steve is walking back to Bucky.

4 He, however, fails to notice Mantis running over to the group.

3 Steve approaches the small group of men that resides behind the large group of screaming women.

2 Mantis runs over to the group so that she may have a chance of catching the bouquet but bumps into Steve on the way.

1 Steve nearly falls as he enters the  mob of women and his glass shatters on the floor as alcohol spills onto the wood. Natasha throws back the bouquet and just as Steve stabilizes from his fumble, the bouquet appears right in front of him and he catches it in order to prevent it from landing on his face.

The room goes silent. The women around him are too shook up to even be angry at him. Natasha is the first one to laugh, then everyone else joins in- including Steve himself.

He walks over to Natasha, "Nat, d'you wanna re-throw it?"

Her blank stare turns to hysteria in a second. "No way! This is going to be the dance of the century, Steve. You'll see. It'll be hilarious"

"Dance?" Steve was confused.

"Oh... Yea. Clint and I thought it'd be cool if those who caught the garter and the bouquet could have a dance of their own as well"

Well isn't that just dandy.

Moments later, a chair is set up in the middle of the dance floor and Natasha is seated in it. The group of men then huddles behind Clint as he kneels down before her.  Steve, however, wasn't allowed to participate.

His hand slips underneath her beautiful white dress and pulls out the garter. His hand flies into the air as if he had discovered gold, and then he throws it back.

Hands reach up into the air for it, a few man even jump for it. But when looking back on it, the man who caught it had gone the extra mile to catch it. He propelled himself over someone so that he could grab it. And when the crowd stopped yelling and backed away to reveal who the lucky man was... it was Bucky.

He looked over at Steve from a distance under thick eyelashes and from behind dark brown hair, a flame igniting in his eyes. He held up the garter and walked to the dance floor where he would meet Steve.

Natasha stood, a stupid grin on her face, and made Steve sit down in the chair (even though his face was already fifty shades of red). Bucky stood before him as Clint backed away and flashed Steve a crazy smile... one that meant that he was thinking of the completely outrageous night they were going to have.

Bucky looked up at him from his kneeling position in front of the chair like: fucking prepare yourself Rogers because I'm so gonna embarrass your ass. Steve's face was confused and panicked but also relieved and almost excited.

Instead of being a normal person in an awkward situation and going the easy way about things, Bucky decided to be difficult. As per usual. He picked up Steve's leg, but instead of putting the garter on top of his pants, he went under them. Once it was high up on his thigh he continued on that same trail just a liiiiiittle more and gently moved across his dick with a cold, metal finger.

Steve just looked down at him like: are you actually fucking kidding me right now? You're gonna get us found out about.

Everyone laughed normally when he went under Steve's pants so they didn't even notice the extra mile Bucky had gone.

They stood and the chair was removed and the music was turned on again. A slow song rang through the ball room as Nat walked over to Steve.

"Alright so you guys are gonna have to do the dance... we planned on the man and woman who caught the garter and bouquet to do a dance but since you guys are good friends I figured it'd be funny if you guys did the dance anyway," she laughed like it was nothing as she walked away.

"What's she say?" Bucky asked Steve as he walked back over.

"Uhhm... you're not gonna like this, Buck," I put my hand on his shoulder. "She told me that we have to do a slow dance to a song that's gonna play..."

"Oh... uhm ok if that's what she wants."

"You're okay with this? Won't it be..." Steve lowered his voice, "obvious?"

"Nah. Oh, it's playing. Let's go."

He grabbed Steve's hand and pulled him onto the middle of the floor. The song? Save the Last Dance for Me. The Drifters.1962.

He pulled Steve into his arms and put his metal hand on his hip. Steve put his hand on Bucky's shoulder and they began to step around. Their eyes were locked and smiled spanned across their faces.

Everyone was watching them dance across the floor. Their hips swayed together from side to side as the music played on. Bucky pushed Steve away and forced him into an effortless spin. He laughed when they returned back to each other and Steve turned red as a beet.

Their faces grew closer but Steve had other plans in mind: to draw this out as much as he possibly could. He undid the sole button on Bucky's suit jacket and walked around him, pressing himself on his backside and slowly pulling off he jacket. He threw it over to Nat, who caught it and smiled. They swayed together across the dance floor as Bucky spun Steve around once more.

On a quick impulse, bucky moved his hand to support Steve's lower back as he dipped him to the ground. Steve's face displayed utter shock, and when he was lifted he was met with a pair of warm, wet lips on his own.

An audible gasp came from the crowd as they pulled apart.

"Buck— I"

"Shhhh... It's fine Steve. Really. They can know. Scream it out loud! Tell the whole world!" He shouted.

"What're you doi—"

"I love you! Steven Grant Rogers is the love of my life! And I wanted you all to know that," he admitted. And there it was. The unavoidable truth. And all I could do was smile.

Nat came over to us with a big grin on her face. "Well then. I have to admit that... I definitely saw that coming."

Clint followed behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder, "she's right, you know. It was kind of obvious."

Tony walked over with a sly grin on his face, "so. Cap and Barnes... when's the date?"

"What?" Steve asked.

"The date. You know, for your wedding."
