Chapter Four
When Marinette finally woke up, it was around 11 pm. She darted up as she looked around the familiar pink room she was in.
How did I get to my room?
She didn't have a lot of time to ponder that as something, or rather, someone tapped on her window.
She felt a smile grace her lips as she opened the window, letting a green eyed black cat in her room. Chat Noir smiled back as he walked into his Princess's room.
"Hey purr-incess. You look purr-fect as usual." He grabbed her hand as he knelt down and kissed her smooth knuckles.
Marinette rolled her eyes at his cat puns and yanked her hand away. "Two puns, that's just great." She whispered under her breath.
"What was that?"
"I said, what are you doing here?"
Chat sat himself on her pink chaise and lightly patted the spot beside him. Marinette walked over to the chaise but sat on the other end.
"I wanted to make sure my purr-incess was okay. A little birdie told me you left school today." He answered as he began to scoot himself closer to Marinette.
"Uh- er, I mean yeah, I-I'm fine." She stuttered back as a faint pink dusted the tops of her cheeks. Chat gave her a toothy grin as he winked.
"Good to know."
Chat Noir is back to being his normal flirty self.
"Chat Noir, do you want to watch a movie with me?"
His cat ears perked up and he looked at Marinette startled.
"What?"
"A movie. Do you want to watch a movie with me? There's this movie I've been dying to watch but I haven't had time. So do you want to?" Inside Marinette was freaking out as she bit the inside of her lip.
Why am I doing this? What if he says no? Oh no, I'm embarrassing myself. What if I'm making Chat uncomfortable? What if-
"Sure purr-incess, I would paw-sitively love to."
After about 15 minutes, Chat Noir and Marinette finally had everything ready.
They were both on her bed, laying on their backs with a bowl of popcorn between them and a DVD player set on their legs.
Marinette grimaced as she felt her whole body weight on her back but tried to fight through the pain. Chat saw her look of discomfort and had an idea pop into his head.
"Here Marinette, put the popcorn to my right," Chat patiently waited as she did so. "Put the player on my stomach."
Hesitantly Marinette picked up the player and set it down slowly on Chat Noir's hard, flat stomach.
"And now this."
He turned Marinette so she was on her side, facing him. He pulled her closer to him so she was practically on him. At last, with her head on his chest and her left leg over his legs, they started the movie.
She felt her heart beat pick up as she was cuddling with her partner. Chat Noir silently sighed into her midnight blue hair as the warmth he's been missing finally came back.
He could feel his heart race too, and electricity shocked him at every spot Marinette was touching him. He looked down at his classmate.
Marinette was happily watching the movie in front of them, secretly enjoying the closeness Chat has given her as she basked in his smell.
I love this smell. I don't know why but I love it.
"Mari..." Chat Noir sighed unknowingly.
Marinette froze, every muscle in her tensed up as he called her by a new nickname. Chat Noitcouldn't help but notice her stiffness.
"Princess you okay?"
She silently nodded into his chest while her blush darkened.
"You sure Purr-incess? I mean, I know I'm cat-ishly handsome, but no need to be shy." He teased and wrapped an arm around her waist as he pulled her closer.
She pursed her lips as she held back a laugh.
"What is it? Cat got your tongue?"
Finally Marinette let out her giggle, that soon turned into a body shaking laugh. Chat Noir joined in as well, his chest rumbling with his deep chuckles.
"Oh god... Those are..." Marinette paused to catch her breath. "Are terrible... Do you just look them up online?"
"What're you talking about? My puns are cat-tastic and purely me-own."
Marinette squeezed Chat tightly as she buried her nose into his chest to cover her laughs.
Chat stared at her shaking figure, her laugh sounding like the most beautiful thing he has ever heard.
He saw flash of red, the flash lasting for about three seconds. He could've sworn he saw a red string attached to both of their left pinkies. As soon as he moved his hand the string faded away.
Marinette's giggling died down. "Chat Noir is something wrong?"
He shook his head, his poofy blonde locks falling over his black mask. His electric green eyes peered down on her, staring into her clear blue eyes. He never really noticed how in her light blue eyes there were dark blue specks in them with even darker blue streaks. They were beautiful.
"I- uh, I gotta go. See you soon Princess?"
"Uh yeah? I mean, yes, see you soon Chat."
Chat moved himself from under Marinette and set the DVD player and popcorn on her desk.
"Get some sleep tonight okay Marinette?"
He pulled her pink fluffy covers over the confused girl. When the covers reached her chin he planted a quick sweet kiss on her cheek before darting out of her room.
As he raced through the sleeping Parisian city to his room, thoughts swam around his head.
What was that red string? Was it just a figment of my imagination? Why was it attached to Marinette?
He softly landed on the floor of his bedroom. "Plagg, detransform me."
His kwami flew out of his silver ring.
"I want Camembert!" Plagg complained as he fell onto Adrien's bed. Adrien tossed him a small wheel of Camembert as he sat at his desk.
He turned on his computer and began to type up the word 'red string' into his search box.
A website called the red string of fate popped up, clicking on it he was not prepared for what he was going to learn.
The red string of fate. It is a Chinese Folklore in which each person is tied to another by an invisible red string. The string is wrapped around their left pinkie finger and can tangle and stretch but as legend says, it can never break. The person on the other end of your string is your soulmate.
Soulmate?
"Marinette is my soulmate, not Ladybug..."
That's only if I actually saw that though. I mean, I can still have a chance with Ladybug.
Adrien sighed, pushing himself away from his desk. Using his leg, he kicked the floor so he was spinning in slow circles as he continued to think about the article he had just read. He didn't have a problem with Marinette, she was his friend! And they had gotten even closer recently, especially after tonight. But, he's loved Ladybug for years. He can't just forget about that because of some string. Adrien sighed again.
I don't know why I'm getting so worked up about this. It's just an old Chinese folklore. It's probably not even real.
Adrien decided that he wasn't going to dwell on this any longer. He got up to go to bed, Plagg yawning as he floated over to the pillow he uses to sleep on.
Tomorrow will bring a new day. He'll just have to wait to see what it will bring with it.
Hey! Whatcha think about the red string? Until next time, peace!
