Chapter 9
Luciano
When the ship docked at the harbor of Gloucester, I paid off the men for the ride and stepped out with Ben. I stopped in the middle of the cargos and containers and enjoyed the fresh breath of air after days of being stuck inside a ship.
"Finally, some cell service." I heard Ben groan at the corner as he pulled out his phone and waved it in the air. "Your parents have rung me twice. I think you should call them back." He reminded me.
"Yeah." I pulled out my phone from my pocket and called my Mother before doing anything else. We didn't have any cell service during the past six days and it just made everything torturous. However, the men at the ship were more friendly when I flashed money in front of them. It was depressing enough that I couldn't use my title anymore for benefits but it didn't matter.
Nothing did.
"I just arrived at Gloucester, it's a town at the North of England. I still have to do my research but how are you, Mother?" I asked as she picked up the call. Six days without speaking to anyone made me go mad. There was Ben but at the end of the journey, all I wanted to do was kill him and he wanted the same.
"Oh, everything is fine here." Her voice was brightened up, she sounded awake. "Darling, be careful, that town is ruled by wolves, you don't want to get any trouble. If you need help with anything, I'm right here, I can come there if you want?" She asked with concern.
"No, no, Mother, it's all right. I need you to stay there and look after Fiona, she shouldn't know that I went somewhere." I shook my head and replied. A gut-wrenching pain twisted at my heart, I didn't want to leave my daughter alone after everything but I had to, forsake of finding Red and her nosey sister.
"She's perfectly fine. You don't have to worry about her!" My Mother said in between giggles and I assumed she was playing with her. "Just promise me that if something goes wrong, you'll allow me to handle it." Her tone dropped down again.
I sighed. "Yes. But just so you know, this is my journey, Mother. Whatever happens, I'll deal with it. I came here on my steps and I won't need any help unless it's completely necessary."
"As you say so. I just wish you all the best and please, come back with good news. It would be heartbreaking if this all meant nothing." Mother said, cutting through my words and making herself clear.
"Thank you. I'll talk to you later. Tell Father I'm good and he doesn't need to worry about anything either."
I dropped the call after that and pushed the phone back into my coat. Whipping around, I found Ben speaking with a man, since he had no scent, I presumed he was an innocent human. I didn't interrupt him until he was finished and when he was, he came up to me straight.
"That was Dexter, in charge of the few ships around here." Ben explained, worry hanging at the edge of his tone. His face further tensed and he continued. "He's a human but he's aware of the Alpha here, his name is Dillion and half of population of the town is under his control."
Glancing over my shoulders, I studied the little bits of the town. We were still at the harbor and the ship we travelled from was behind us. A thought ran across my mind and my brows furrowed. What could Annabeth possibly do here? This was no town for witches or let anyone lone-witches.
"I'll go speak with the Alpha then—" Before I could walk out of the harbor, Ben ran behind and stopped me. "What?"
"You're not the King anymore and even if you were, the Alpha wouldn't be able to recognize you. We don't want to get in trouble right away, Luciano." Ben stood in front of me and explained.
Ugh.
"Come on." I groaned, kicking my feet on the few rocks on the ground. Not again. The only time I was in England ever was to either meet my Mother or go to parties held by other packs and usually I ended up being their special guest.
"Yeah. We need to think of something else and we probably don't know where Annabeth ran off with Red's body. She could be anywhere!" He lifted his one shoulder and gave me a cold shrug.
My head ached and a numbing chill ran down my spine. I studied my surroundings all over again, this time, using my wolf's strong senses. The scent flowed into my nose and I took in a deep breath while Ben gave me a long look of horror, unable to understand what I was doing. Being the King and coming from a line of royals had its own perks and one was sniffing out wolves.
"I can smell them both. They both are here. Red's wolf and Annabeth." I said to Ben and his eyes widened.
"No way."
"There are with someone—a witch—I can smell her too," The longer I continued with using my powers, the stranger it got. The witch had a scent and it resembled Gretel's; it wasn't the exact one but something similar. "And, it's a very strong witch. I need to know who it is immediately." I stormed out of the harbor and into the streets of Gloucester.
Ready to find my mate and her twin sister.
"Wait!" Ben yelled behind. "If you've forgotten, an Alpha control this town. We cannot be seen lingering around!"
"I know, which is why we are going to shift. I can have a stronger feeling then and in no time, I will find where Annabeth is."
I went behind a four-storey building and released my wolf to go wild and find his mate. I no longer needed anything else but only the help of my own powerful wolf.
