Chapter 65

My cheeks had dried out but they were stained with tears. As I walked with Anna toward the entrance of the house, we went through all the safety precautions I needed to take incase something went wrong in Whitebridge, my hometown.

"You have to be quick. I suppose there isn't much time left. As soon as you get the details to where the witches are buried, tell me so we can pull them out of their graves and preform the spell." Anna explained, fluttering her hand in the air a couple of times. "And, if you have to kill someone to get the information then do so. From what I've heard, Gretel's son is powerful."

I blocked out any remorse I was going to feel for either of them, Damon or Lisa. This wasn't the time for it.

Standing out in the warmth, I turned around one last time before leaving. "Did you ever meet Damon?"

"We did cross paths once when I was stealing Fiona from Gretel's witches but he didn't know who I was or where I came from." She nodded.

"Oh, wow." I wasn't much surprised but what caught in my head were her words—stealing my daughter. I leaned in to my sister and gave her a hug. "I'll see you soon."

"Be careful!" She patted my back and let me go.

She couldn't come along with me as there needed to be a witch around here to keep Luciano in control and Jacqueline was still on her way. On the other hand, I couldn't get any late than it was already.

I got inside the car parked and the driver took me out of the town and went in the fastest route to Whitebridge. The driver was one of Luciano's men and incase something went wrong, he'd kill whoever would hurt me.

The blue skies and the wonderful sight of sunset passed by me. I kept my phone switched on to get any updates from Anna. An hour into the ride and she informed me that Jacqueline had put Luciano to sleep for a couple of hours.

But, the spell could break off any time and he'd be back, his wolf would be back, attacking anyone that came in front of him.

The rest of the car ride, I only thought about the good things and the experiences I had with Luciano.

"Ms. Red?" The driver pulled me out of my thoughts and said.

"Yes."

"We are here. Where would you like to go?" He drove the car past the sign of Whitebridge and entered the bustling town of humans.

"My grandmother's house. It's nearby." I whispered, lowering my eyes.

"Noted!" The drover took a right turn to the street that led to my old house, my Nana's house, where she lived for most of her life and where she was buried.

I scribbled a note in my head to show the house to Dillion once this was all over. He would be happy to see where his mother lived and where I grew up. We could plan out a vacation here, in Whitebridge and it would be fun.

"Just by here," I raised my hand and motioned the driver to stop at the entrance of Nana's house. "I'll be back in a couple minutes." I said, hopping off and taking a deep breath.

The house was kept untouched since Nana died. I didn't allow anyone, not even Mayor to touch it. I wanted everything to be in the same place as it was before. The memories rushed into my head as I walked inside. Dust and dirt lingered in the air yet somehow, the place smelled like her, even after a long year.

I touched the tangled, dead flowers sitting inside the vase filled with dirty water. Using my magic, I made them all fresh and alive along with any other flowers inside the house.

A tear fell down my cheeks but I managed to smile at the good memories of Nana. She was in peace and I had seen here up there so I was at ease. There weren't many tears this time, just little laughs and smiles.

The birds by the balcony were chirping and flying around as the sun was almost gone and it was their time to make the noises. I opened the windows wide and allowed fresh air to dive inside.

Running my hands across Nana's sheets, I remembered her. Warmth flooded inside me and I went outside, to the backyard, where she was buried. No one moved her from there but the area was cleaned up, free from her blood.

The garden had blossomed over the months. I could see small roses poking out of the grass and a sprinkler showering water on it.

Nana was the greatest and wisest woman I ever knew and there was no one who could take her place in my life.

I bent down by her grave and brushed off any dirt from the stone. Pressing my hands against the soil above her grave, I closed my eyes and weeped.

"I'm sorry I haven't visited you for a long time. I'll try to come here every week once I'm settled Brittleburgh and I promise to turn your house back into a home but right now, I need your blessings, Nana, I need your prayers, I need you to tell me that everything is going to be fine, I need you to tell me that I am not going to loose Luciano." A few more tears shed down from my cheeks and I pressed my head against the stone, my eyes still closed.

I could feel her warm presence around me, awakening at my call. She was here.

Opening my eyes, I looked at the sky above me. "It's been so hard. I just learned Lisa had betrayed me. You were always right about her. She wasn't my friend and now it makes sense why you would stop me from going out with her. I was so stern that time and I didn't care." I whispered, straightening my back. "She killed you, Nana, she killed a part of me."

The wind of the evening whistled around me and leaves scattered from the ground. A couple flowers swept around, it was her response. She was here with me, listening.

I sat on the ground for a few minutes, gathering my thoughts and enjoying the seconds I was here. Being beside her grave bought me peace, serenity. I was no longer full of rage or hatred against Lisa.

But I was still going to redeem Nana's death, somehow.
