Chapter 62
Chapter 62
"It's called Scorchogio Canineus. A thousand year old spell used by witches to kill werewolves during ancient times since they had no other way and werewolves then were almost unlikely to ever die—"
"Immortals?" I raised my brow at Cordelia.
"Yes. To kill one, six witches are sacrificed beside a strong fire, creating an energy, a sickness that would engulf the werewolf and force him to end others and himself." She paused to take a breath. Her eyes landed on me and she continued, "There is no cure for it and the last time this kind of spell was used, it turned into a massacre, killing thousands of werewolves."
My posture remained firm. I assessed my surroundings, we came back early in the morning and found Cordelia at the house, talking with Jacqueline. They were getting close to figuring out what went wrong but when I told them about what I had seen, they immediately knew.
"Does that mean Luciano is going to start killing us?" Ben's voice rang in my ears. I was lost in my thoughts, not to notice the fear that was lingering over us, all of us.
Cordelia nodded, "Soon." She looked at him. "Do you feel the bloodlust?"
He cleared his throat, "My wolf did have the urge of killing earlier, wasn't sure if he wanted to kill me or someone else." He explained. The skin under his eyes was turning black with the sleepless night and the sickness.
I felt bad, I felt guilty.
"Is there something we can do about it? We do know it is Damon behind the spell and the sacrifice." I broke my silence and said. I didn't care if I had to bury him with his Mother to break this spell or kill Lisa. There was nothing more precious than my family, my mate and his health.
Cordelia seemed apprehensive, she shared a look with Jacqueline, a scared one. "There might be a way but it's going to be hard. The only way this spell can break if those six witches are bought to life." She stated, lowering her head to the book on her lap. It was her own grimoire, from two-hundred years back.
My heart swelled and I thought about the worst. "How many days do we have?"
"You don't want to know that, Red."
"Please." I pleaded, tearing up.
"Probably a couple. When the souls of those witches are taken and there is no redemption left, Luciano will die and his bloodlust will be at the peak before that, killing anyone that is around him." She lifted her eyes from the book and they told me everything.
Luciano placed a reassuring arm over my shoulder and I was quick to brace, maybe for the last time. His skin warmed me as I brushed my head against his chest and whimpered a little.
Just a few days?
"As days pass by, it will get worse and none of us can take away his pain at one point." I heard Cordelia speak again.
I wiped away the tears on my cheeks using his shirt and moved my attention back to Cordelia.
"How can we bring someone dead back to life?"
"It's hard—"
"But it's possible."
It was.
Gretel did it.
I could do it.
I could bring the six witches back to life and nothing would happen to Luciano.
"It will ruin you, Red. It will pull the darkest part of soul out and that kind of magic isn't only immoral but it will also corrupt you. You will only see darkness then." She snapped at me.
"She doesn't has to do it," Jacqueline interrupted us. "I'll do it."
The room fell into dead silence and the argument came to a stop. Our eyes turned on Jacqueline.
"Mother—"
"Oh, come on, it isn't like I haven't done anything wrong." She rolled her eyes at Luciano. "And it's much better if I do than Red. I've lived a virtuous life as a witch for quite long and I don't mind bending a couple of my rules if it means saving my son."
Luciano sighed behind me while I grew concerned, not over Jacqueline but over the fact that we had no idea where to start.
"Except there is a little issue. Neither of us know where Damon and Lisa are or where they had buried those witches. Without their dead bodies, neither of us will be able to preform any magic." Cordelia said in an intense tone, spilling the truth we should be worried about.
I had heard from Lunaris and one of the witches working under me had informed me that neither Damon or Lisa were spotted since we left. All of their belongings are still inside the mansion, including Gretel's precious jewels and land deeds.
They weren't in Lunaris nor here.
"I might know where they are there!" I exclaimed, my thoughts racing to my old town, Whitebridge. "And I can get the information out of them."
I could speak with both of them, give them what they wanted in return for a living Luciano.
"Great! That's there then." Jacqueline wavered her hand at me.
I stood up from the couch and paced around by the window while they spoke. Anna wasn't in the room as she was giving a little time to Fiona and keeping her occupied.
Placing my hand under my chin, I imagined the worse of this. If the spell could get worse, Luciano would began killing werewolves and I was among them and so was Ben. He'd attack the closest ones to him, just like he was going to early in the morning.
When I felt a pair of hands around my waist, I startled, my heart skipping a beat. Luciano bent down and I got a close look at his face.
"What if you kill someone?" I asked.
"I won't. I've a little control."
"Seriously, you don't."
He pouted, "Ouch."
"Luciano!"
"All right, I'll lock myself up so I won't kill you or anyone else in this room. Although, my intentions are on Ben since morning." He said, halting behind me.
I turned around and looked at Ben standing a little far away from us. His eyes were wide and I could tell he wanted to run away the second Luciano told me his intentions.
Cordelia and Jacqueline were safe as they were witches and they had no wolf inside of them along with Anna and my daughter.
Luciano held my both hands, "It's going to get worse, isn't it?"
"No, no, it will be fine as long as you don't kill someone." I shook off any bad thoughts and kept them away. There was a way to end this. "I'm going to go find Lisa and Damon in Whitebridge. Either of them will spill where the bodies are and once we know, Jacqueline will bring them to life and the spell will break." I sounded ridiculously firm on my words.
"I can't let you go alone," His chest rumbled with a growl.
"I'll be fine. I've my magic and I'm strong enough to take them both down, if necessary." I held my breath at the last sentence, hoping it wasn't. Curling my fingers around Luciano, I took a promise from him. "Just tell me that won't shift or kill anyone and that if it gets worse, you'll allow your Mother or Cordelia to help, hell even Anna."
"I won't, I promise." He whispered.
Ben's chuckle echoed in my ears as he came into the room with shackles lingering down from his hands. "No promises needed."
Oh God.
