Chapter 61

"Charlotte? That's something new." I dashed my head at Luciano in disbelief. The last I heard of her was when she was dead, killed for working with the witches and the one who killed her was Luciano himself, in his dark times of course.

I blinked a couple times, shaking my head. This was something intense and if it was related to Charlotte then we had a bigger problem.

"Yeah, Damon is among Charlotte's lovers." Ben confirmed, intensity in his eyes. Standing up straight, he grabbed a bottle and sat down. "Yeah, I'm going to need that drink now."

I felt a bit convinced. This could be the reason. I never bothered asking Luciano about Charlotte or going into deep details about their time together as I was always jealous about them.

"Are you sure?"

His expression dulled but he still kept eye contact. "I'm sure. I had seen their pictures together. When I dropped Charlotte, she left town for a couple of months, almost a year and from what I can assume, she was probably in Lunaris during that time." He explained.

It took a whole lot of while for me to register the truth. "And when she returned, she no longer wanted Damon but you..." I trailed off, imagining the time before I came into Luciano's life.

"Yes, when she returned, she begged for forgiveness. I parted away from her but she still clung on to me and Father wanted her to stay as she was family so she stayed at the castle since then."

I focused on getting the truth and saving my husband then feeling jealous about the past. Charlotte had troubled me a lot but she was dead and I had forgiven her from my side.

Clearing my throat and my thoughts, I asked, "Did you see Damon ever?"

His lips quirked and he shrugged, "I don't really remember—we were distanced by then and you know what happened next." Luciano wrapped an arm around my body and pulled me towards him.

I shot my attention to Ben, "What about you?"

"Well, there was a time where Charlotte used to meet someone out of the pack lands and since witches were forbidden on our land, we can all assume who she met." He paused for a second before answering.

"Damon." I completed.

Anna, unbothered, spoke up, "Didn't Gretel bring Charlotte to life?"

"Yeah, she did but I thought that was because she wanted Charlotte to make my life miserable." I replied, remembering the horrible times of my life.

"Uh, why would she do that when she was enough to make your life miserable? Gretel bought Charlotte to life because Damon had asked her to do so!" Anna solved the last piece of puzzle and everything was at place now.

I clicked my gaze away from her and watched the smoke spreading out from the BBQ grill. My thoughts stopped at Damon, the same person Charlotte slept with, Gretel's son, Lisa's husband and the man who tried to kiss me once. It made sense why he was so inside of us even from the outside.

He wasn't trying to kill Luciano for Lisa, he was trying to kill him to defend Charlotte's death and his Mother's.

For the rest of the evening, we stopped talking about our enemies and instead focused on making the night great and memorable.

The sounds of the night soothed me as I filled up my stomach with the BBQ which was fairly cooked and delicious. Once we were done eating, we bought an end to the bonfire and headed to our rooms to fall asleep.

I was tangled around Luciano, my wolf sniffing his scent the entire night while I slept peacefully. The peace was cut short when I woke up before dawn and found the bed empty.

"Luciano?" I jumped up, heart racing and body sweating. I sensed something terribly wrong.

The lights to the bathroom were switched on so I went in there and found him. There was blood on the sink, washing away with the tap water that was turned on. Luciano stood right in front of him, his hard breathing ringing in my ears.

My body tightened and I let out a low gasp. "What's wrong?"

His head narrowed, his hair falling over his face as he said, "You've to get out of here, now."

My quivering fingers reached for his shoulder and I felt a twist in my chest. "No."

"Go, Red." He almost growled at me, with anger I had never seen before. "I can't control myself."

His hands clutched the sides of the sink, holding them so hard that I feared they'd break. His claws curled out of his fingertips and the veins of his hand throbbed at a pace that was existent. He was at the verge of shifting, his wolf wanted to come out and he was resisting it, overpowering the creature inside of him.

"Just shift." I whispered.

"No, no, I can't, I don't want too." He snapped, letting out a painful groan.

"Why not?"

When Luciano turned his head at me, I almost screamed at what I had seen. It wasn't him, it was his wolf. Sharp red eyes pierced into my soul. His fangs slipped past his lips and his face morphed into the true meaning of a beast.

"Because he wants to kill."

"Who?"

"Himself."

"No, no," My head swirled with emotion.

I grabbed his arm and without asking, I took away the pain as Jacqueline had taught me too. It had to work. When I closed my eyes and chanted the spell name, it flashed through me—the spell Damon had put on him.

There were six witches, standing on a wet ground and a fire in the middle of them. They took his name, Luciano's name along with a spell name and then someone killed them, someone killed all six of them. Slashing their neck and bleeding them to death.

I barely felt the ground underneath me. When I opened my eyes, the real world blurred in front of me and before I could fall on the floor, Luciano grabbed me.

I lost conscious for a minute or two and during that time, the scene played in my mind again and again. I heard the chants of the six witches, their screams when they were killed and even the hissing and crackling of the fire in middle of them. The voices penetrated into my mind and with a jolt, I woke up, back on the bed.

"Oh, no." I placed my head against my chest and my gaze landed on Luciano. "Oh, are you okay?" I asked, jumping and wrapping my arms around him.

"Don't do that again." He scolded me.

"You wanted to shift and kill yourself."

"I know, the urge's gone but you are never going to do that again, Red." He tightened his hold on my arm and said.

I twitched a little beneath him, "Okay. But, I saw everything. I saw the spell they had done on you."

"Who?"

"It was a sacrifice of six witches who took your name." I moved away from him and grabbed my phone off the side table. "We have to leave and go to Jacqueline. I know the spell, I know what Damon has done."

All I needed to know now was how to break it before it ran Luciano's wolf to kill himself.
