Chapter 46
Chapter 46
"You will see the starry sky from the roof of our house. We will run in the wild every full moon and scare off those tiny, little creatures. We will delve into a stream of serenity every sunrise. Time will be precious but not deadly. Days will be cold but not cruel. Nights will be young but not vicious. We will have the power of two dark kingdoms at the tip of our fingers and nothing will ever go wrong again."
It was the last thing I heard before I fell asleep during the flight to Brittleburgh. When I woke up, couple hours later, I found Luciano seated at the same spot, eyes still upon me. He hadn't even moved.
"Good morning." I said in a throaty voice. "How long did I sleep for?" It wasn't a second after I took a long yawn.
"Just a couple hours. We are almost there and the sun is going to rise by the time we land so, princess, close your eyes again and sleep before you spend the whole day awake." He explained quickly.
"Nah!" I waved my hand in the air and took a stretch on the seat. "I'm going to stay awake. It's fine and I don't think so I can sleep with you staring at me the entire time." I gave him a look of grim.
"I was asleep."
"Yeah, right."
"Really."
I squinted my eyes and acted as if I was staring into his soul while trying to search the truth. He wasn't lying. "All right, I believe you."
Before having breakfast, I managed to check on Anna and it was the worse decision of my life I had ever made. Seeing my sister making out with my husband's best friend was a image I could never remove from mind. The second I saw them, I scurried out of the area and went back to Luciano while promising myself to never check on her again.
"Is she sleeping?"
I cleared my throat and lowered, "No."
"Then?"
This was awkward.
I opened my mouth to say something but the words couldn't reach my lips. "Let's just no go there." I said, gliding the butter across my toast and focusing on eating while Luciano looked at me curiously.
He didn't need to know.
"So..." I changed the topic as quick as I could. "We are going straight to your house, right?"
"Yeah since I burned the castle." He shrugged before taking a big bite.
"Is it planned to be rebuilt or something?"
The castle was on the ground for over centuries. People, his ancestors lived there. The werewolf legacy began from there. It was the home to the Hanson's and now, there was nothing left of it, not even its ashes.
"Not yet. I don't plan on it either." Luciano replied, ease in his tone. I could tell he wasn't guilty about burning his childhood home down.
"Oh, okay."
The plane landed on the grounds of Brittleburgh early in the morning, a couple hours after we had our breakfast. The sun was at the horizon, its bright orange light lifting the sky up.
When I stepped down from the plane, I felt it—the warmth. We weren't standing on ice or snow anymore, my fingers weren't shaking with cold and goosebumps didn't cover my skin.
We were home.
I was home.
"Welcome back." Jacqueline said, walking towards us with Vincent by her side. "I guess the first person you'd want to meet is her." Her eyes were on me but her other hand was wrapped around a little one.
I took a sharp breath when Fiona walked out of hiding and I got a glimpse of her, after months.
"Oh, baby." My heart clenched tight and I went over to her before getting on my knees and grabbing her. "Oh, my God." I wept like I was the child here.
She sensed and connected with me. I felt it. The bond, by blood and by wolf. When she learned who I was, she wrapped herself comfortably around me and uttered the little word I had died to hear.
"Mama."
I giggled, "Yes, it's me." I pulled away and took her face in my hands. "I missed you. I missed you so much, baby."
When she smiled at me, I realized it was a response to my words. She squeezed my finger and shuffled on the ground, letting me know that she was happy. Stifling a laugh, I stood up and met Jacqueline and Vincent.
While embracing me, Jacqueline whispered in my ear, "You bought a witch?"
"It's Cordelia."
"Be careful, Red." She didn't say it out loud but I could tell she was worried about the presence of another witch among us. Who wouldn't be? Especially after everything that had happened over the course of one, single year.
"I am." I nodded, pulling away.
I turned my attention to Vincent but he was occupied with fist-bumping with Ben. I sighed. This was going to be long.
We only spent a couple minutes by the port before we got inside the SUV's and left the area. I only bought a couple things from England, mostly Fiona's toys and items she'd love but also the crown, my crown that was given to me when I died. The casket was too hefty to get along so I left that deep inside an ocean.
I feared a duet between Jacqueline and Cordelia when they would meet but there was nothing like that. They spoke, smiled and parted ways with ease—no magic, no fighting.
I was in disbelief.
We all ended in the same house, under one roof since Luciano decided to burn the castle.
"Are you sure you've enough bedrooms?" I poked his shoulder and asked. "Enough to make sure our night sounds wouldn't reach anyone."
"I can assure you that your sounds wouldn't reach anyone. It's a large house." His eyes flickered too Ben. "And not that he's going to stay here since he has his own place nearby. Your Father is also going to leave tonight, once his booking is sorted."
I let out a snort before a laughter. "But Anna's going to be here, right?"
Luciano peered at her, "Eh, she's going to leave the second Ben does."
Of course.
