Chapter 37

My lungs burned as I breathed heavily at the sight of my Mother. She was inside the casket, eyes closed, and slowly decaying. It had been long, almost twenty years when she died yet the flesh on her face was intact, and her skin was still pale. She hadn't turned into bones. It was unnatural for a body to not rot in all those years.

"What are you saying?" Anna got on her knees and held back her breath as confusion spread through her face. It was more difficult for her to know about her family than me as during my childhood, I still had my Nana by my side.

"That's our Mother. I met her when I died and—" I paused suddenly and turned back around to see the portraits. "She told me to look for our Father as he wasn't with her." My mind stopped thinking for a second.

It couldn't be.

We were seas apart to be related.

"Dillion's your Father." Luciano broke the ominous silence after a long minute.

I darted my eyes at him, "What?"

"It wasn't my place to tell you but I found your grandmother's picture on his desk a few days back and when I questioned him about her, he told me she was his Mother and his wife died." He explained while his hands reached out for me. "He believed his daughter had died with his wife. He has no idea about either of you. Your Mother hid it all from him."

Goosebumps rose on my skin and I felt sick at the revelation. My breaths quickened and I turned my gaze down to the casket while tears collected inside my eyes.

"But I thought he died." I mumbled.

Luciano ran a loving hand down my back and replied, "He was supposed too. I don't know what went wrong but your Mother wanted to end herself, maybe because of being the chosen one, maybe because of something else. She must've given you to your Nana, who also assumed her son would die with your Mother."

A warm tear fell down my cheeks and I planted my hand over the wooden casket. The pain—it was inside me, again. Nothing made sense to me. First, I found Annabeth after twenty years to thinking I was the only child and then I learned about my Father, who I have been working for, who had no idea that we were his daughter's, who had no idea that he had two of us.

There was a reason why we were all trapped here, all together.

I sniffed and wiped aside my tears before sitting down beside Anna who had a hard time to accept what she was looking at. Her eyes hadn't moved from our Mother's face, she continued to stare, bewilderment growing inside them.

"Is that really our Mother?" She asked, glancing at me.

I nodded, "That's her. Although, when I met her, she was much more beautiful and she asked for you. She was really sorry for what she done."

I snaked my arm over her shoulder and she suddenly curled herself around me and broke, crying out loud. It was pure and innocent cries that rung through my body. I was grateful to have someone as Nana my entire life but Anna didn't have anyone, she didn't even know her family, she was sent away.

"I'm sorry—" I whispered, patting her back. "For the mistakes my Mother had made. If I had any idea that I had a sister, I would've looked for you long ago."

She pulled herself away from me and wiped her tears with the back of her hands before smiling at me. "I'm not mad at you, Red, you were a child yourself, you couldn't do anything and I don't blame anyone else as well. The best thing is we are here, together, as a family and our Father is alive."

I lightly laughed, "And he's Dillion."

She slapped her hand by her head and sighed, "Oh, that's going to be a lot of trouble! And why the fuck does he still has our Mother's body?" She returned to her natural state in a snap of seconds and stood up.

I followed and got up on my feet too. "Yeah." Narrowing my eyes down, I found my Mother again, not in peace yet as she wasn't buried properly but rather kept inside a room.

Why would Dillion do that? How did he even get her body?

There was a deep slash going down my Mother's neck, dried blood all around it. It was how she died, killed by rogues but something was odd. There was no way in hell anyone could keep a body like this, for so long unless they had magic which Dillion did have. But who did he ask to store his wife's dead body for all these years? It couldn't be Cordelia as she herself wanted to know what was in here.

"We have to tell him." Anna suggested.

I closed the casket before the scent went any further and woke every living being inside this house. It was hard to see my Mother again but I knew she was somewhere happier, glowing and laughing with Nana and I knew that place was best for her. Whatever troubles she had were gone but she still needed to be buried and to be given a funeral.

After the loud thud of the wood meeting the wood, I breathed heavily and said, "Not now."

"Why?"

"Not tonight."

"Dillion can never move forward in life until he buries her. Keeping her here and all this stuff is going fuck him up for the rest of his life." Anna spun around and studied all the things inside the room, most of them belonging to my two year old self.

"I know, but we should wait, for a night. Let Bernard leave tomorrow and then we tell him everything," My breath hitched slightly. How could I do that? Tell Dillion we were his daughters? Would he even believe us or think of us as con artists?

Anna agreed to me. We hurried out of the room and bought the chains back up before locking the door and returning the key to Ben, who would later on keep it back on Dillion's desk.

"Anna, wait." I took her hand and stopped her from leaving. "I know you're still mad at me—" I was interrupted before I could even finish.

"I'm not, really, it was just the heat and being around here in this tight atmosphere." Her head spun and she groaned.

"I know, which is why I got you this." I handed over the passes for a small resort around the area. "And it's totally not the best timing, especially after seeing our Mother's body and learning we are Dillion's daughters but you still have the right to be happy, even if it's just for a night."

Her mouth hung and she licked her lips wickedly. "Well, you just made my night better. I'll see you tomorrow. Let me know what time Bernard will be here, I'll be back." She winked and uttered nothing more before dragging Ben out of the East Wing and probably the mansion.
