Chapter 30
Red
By morning, everything was forgotten. I didn't give a thought at Luciano's words at all, not until I spoke to Jaqueline by myself and instead of worrying, I focused on my work, spying and clearing the path for Cordelia.
Luciano left early in the morning but he promised he'd return by evening or whenever his Mother would call him.
"So, you're telling me you saw them together, last night?" Anna asked, folding her hands across her chest. "Sonya and Brenda?"
"Yes!" I exclaimed, spilling everything so we could decide on what to do further. A night had passed by and I wasn't able to do anything except for weep in Luciano's arms.
A terror rose inside me and I dreaded for the future, not mine, but rather my daughter's who was alone there. While Vincent and Jacqueline could protect Fiona, a part of me still wasn't satisfied, especially after hearing what had been happening in Lunaris.
What if Lisa and Damon would take away my daughter? What if they actually wanted to hurt me? I thought all my problems were gone once Gretel was dead but it no longer seemed like that.
I wanted to go back home immediately, therefore, I was hurrying into everything.
"They could be together." I suggested Annabeth who was lost in her thoughts.
"No," she shook her head. "Sonya had been working here for years, she's loyal to the Alpha."
"And so was Brenda." I scoffed, remembering Dillion's words, and how he believed that Brenda was a loyal pack wolf. It was the betrayal from every side that showed how cruel and nasty this world could get. For what? Power, money, love, lavishes, other's husbands, titles and the list went so on.
"Right..." She trailed off, smacking her hand on the table and groaning lowly. "Fuck, we have to deal with two women now?"
"Well, if we can get one to speak, we don't have to deal with both of them. All we want is the name of who they are working for." I reminded her of our little job. We were so close, yet so far.
"I'll try getting something out of Sonya since I can get on her nerves." Said Anna, with a wide, playful smirk on her lips. That was my sister right there, always wicked and evil but sweet to who she needed to be with.
A strange scent reached up to my nostrils and I scowled while glancing at the doorway. Anna leaned forward, getting off the bed, her face filled with curiosity. The scent itched me, it was strong, witchy, and it threatened my own witch side.
"What is that?" I asked, placing my hand over my nose to block out the smell. Only then I realized it wasn't just a smell, it was an aura.
"A witch." Anna said, strolling out of the room. "In the house. How interesting?"
I followed her into the hallway, where the scent was ten times stronger. It couldn't be Cordelia as we knew her scent, and she wouldn't dare stepping in here when Dillion still hated her. Instead of finding some witch, we found Brenda, running around, a cheerful grin plastered over her lips and her hands filled with drinks.
Annabeth grasped her hand, stopping her. "Why are you so cheeky and excited? Who is here?" She asked.
Brenda stopped smiling at my sister's words, it seemed like a bomb just collapsed on her head and she went pale with it. "No—nothing, Ms. Anna."
"Who is here?" Anna didn't show any mercy while inquiring her.
"Madam Marissa,"
"Who the fuck is that?" We both cursed together.
"The Alpha called her, she works for him." Brenda said, gazing down on the ground.
"Is she a witch?"
"Yes, Ms. Anna."
"All right. Go." Anna said, releasing her.
She ran like a tiny little rat, scrambling around and trying to find a hidden corner. Something about Brenda ticked me off today, while mentioning the woman, she seemed way too pumped up, as if she knew her.
As if she was the other woman we were looking for.
At the right second, Anna and I looked at each other, and our eyes widened. "Fuck." We did it again, cursed at the same times. We certainly still had some twin blood dominance inside us.
I slapped my hand over my mouth. "Is Madam Marissa the one we are looking for?"
"Maybe." Anna shrugged, but the beam over her face said otherwise.
I planted my hands over my hips and swayed into the seating room alongside with my sister. Dillion usually ended up meeting people in the same room and as expected, we found the woman, Madam Marissa.
Dillion ducked back and at us, "Oh, girls, you two are up early! Come on in. Let me introduce you to someone I have known for very long." He said, hastening his hand in the air and motioning us to move in quickly.
We walked in and sat down. I got a clearer view of the woman. In the morning light, she was young, in her late 30's or somewhat, her face was vibrant, her eyes were blue and she was breathtaking.
Beautiful.
Anna slapped my wrist, stopping me from staring at the woman for any longer.
"These are the witches I got recently for protection against Cordelia." Dillion said to the woman before turning his head. "And girls, this is Marissa, an old, lovely friend. She's a witch if you two haven't already recognized that. She's works closely with Cordelia and cares to share all her wicked stuff with me."
"Oh, Dillion!" The woman laughed, and it wasn't just any laugh, it was a giggle coated with petty and lust. She waved her hand and bought the saucer of her tea closer to herself. "Why do you worry so much? Cordelia was being taken care of, we both know that, don't we?" She winked at the old man.
This woman was infectious.
"I still need more help, Marissa." Dillion replied in a deep voice.
"You don't, you can send these girls back to where—" Her words slowly stopped when she cocked her head at my direction and gazed right into my soul. The exquisite look wore off her face and she asked, "I have seen you somewhere, haven't I?"
I gulped, "No."
A second later, I recognized the scent and the woman. She was in one of the parties Luciano had thrown at the castle long before.
"You were with the King of Wolves and your hair was different." The woman continued.
She knew Luciano and how he looked like.
Fuck.
"No." I repeated, slightly shaking my head. "I—I don't know what you're talking about. I've never seen the King or let alone met him!"
"Yeah." Anna slipped in the conversation. "That's her natural hair, black and evil as her soul. You must've mistaken her for someone else." She was quick enough to take charge before everything came out in the open.
"Oh, I assume so." The woman titled back to Dillion and sipped on her tea.
We both took our chance and sneaked out of the room as soon as we could. Freaked out of our minds, we headed back to our room and only began then.
"This is the woman. Marissa!" I exclaimed, racing my hand through my hair. We had solved the puzzle—at least one of them.
"She works with Cordelia!"
"And, Cordelia probably has no idea that one of her own servants is luring Dillion for themselves." I snapped back at her before taking a deep breath and collapsing on the bed. "Oh, my God, we have the name."
"One of them." Anna reminded.
"The other one is just a room away, Anna. You know what this means?"
"I know what it does." She danced in front of the mirror. "I'll be traveling the world soon."
My breath caught at my throat, "What?"
"I mean—with Ben since we are exploring things and traveling is first thing we are going to do once we are out of here." She explained, lowering down her excitement but it took a second for her to return to the mirror and start dancing again.
"Oh, interesting."
