Chapter 29
Red
As soon as Sonya came into the view, I ran into the other direction with my heart ramming inside my chest. Why was anyone awake at the middle of the night? Was Sonya into this as well? It couldn't be, she had worked for Alpha Dillion for years but again, so did Brenda. I tripped on my feet, thoughts racing, and fell upon Luciano who was just about to leave.
"Aren't you spying anymore?" He asked, catching me on time before my head hit the ground and I would forget everything.
"No. Someone came, I couldn't." I gathered myself up, and ran my hands down my clothes to act as if I was fine.
"So, does that mean you're free to talk?" He drew in, tracing a finger down my cheek. I slapped his hand away and nudged my fist into his chest.
"Yes! Let's go."
Luciano wanted this and he got it. His hand tightened and clasped around mine as we sneaked to the rooftop, the only safest place around the mansion as rest of it was occupied by other's. I felt bad for Dillion—more than bad. He had no idea of the roaches roaming in his house, his own people weren't on his side. Instead of focusing on Cordelia, he should've rather focused on his pack and his people who were at the verge of betraying him.
A thick blanket of snow lie of the rooftop of the mansion. My steps imprinted on the snow as I walked ahead. It was slippery but I was able to walk on it as the roof was flat on my side, not so much on Luciano's side.
The weather was pure ice with no ounce of pity or warmth. I wore what I was going to bed with, a thin cloth and I didn't have much time to change or grab a jacket but someone did.
"You're staring at it. Do you want it?" Luciano asked, reaching for the outline of his thick, juicy, cozy coat that was alluring to my quivering body.
I nodded my head immediately. "Yes, please."
With a chuckle, he removed it and handed it over to me. As soon as I wore it, a delightful moan of warmth passed by lips and nestled with myself, leaving Luciano in the complete cold.
He hauled his arm at me and grabbed me by my hips, dragging me closer to himself. "There is something I need to tell you." He whispered, pulling a piece of hair beside my ear.
"I thought we weren't going to do any talking."
"It's something serious." His tone took a quick change and I pursed my lips together, waiting for him to continue. "I got a call from my Mother—"
"Did something happen to Fiona?" I jumped into conclusions without even hearing everything. My heart beat faster, and in that second, I felt like I was going to hop into a plane and go back to her.
"No, no." Luciano shook his head. "She's fine. I got a few videos and she's doing well. It's something else."
My only worry in the States was Fiona, his Mother, his Father and of course, Valarie. There wasn't anyone else there that I wondered about as the people I did care about were already by my side.
"What is it?" I took his hand in mine when stress lashed onto his features.
"My Mother informed me that once Gretel died, you were obliged to take her place, in the coven and as the Queen of Witches. And that if you don't, someone else will." He explained, lowly.
I was aware of that long before my death.
"Who else will?" I lifted a brow.
"By default, if you don't claim your throne, Gretel's son, Damon, will be crowned." He stopped for a moment and narrowed his head. His fingers lined across my palms and in the silence, I just heard him take a few puffs of breath. "Lisa married him a while back and they both are waiting for the time period to end."
"Oh." My hands tensed against his and I pulled away.
At first, I felt happy, happy for that Lisa and Damon got married. I had nothing against Damon and while he knew where my daughter was kept for nine months, I still forgave him as he only listened to his Mother. None of this was his doing, it was Gretel's and I didn't want to blame him for his Mother's mistake.
"T—that's good, right?" I asked, smiling.
But Luciano didn't smile. "No, Red, it's not." He breathed. "They are against you, and they wished that you stayed dead."
My mind paused for a minute and I struggled with inhaling. I was stunned with the news. My eyes and my face dropped wide open while my heart leapt inside my chest.
No.
I ran my tongue over my bottom lip and shook my head in denial. "No, no, Lisa would never want that." I whispered to Luciano.
"My Mother still has to speak with her but it's everywhere, Lisa did want you to stay dead so she could be happier as she believed you were a trouble for her and it was all your fau—"
I raised my finger and bought it towards his lips to silence down the words. I couldn't bear hearing them. My lungs ached when I took a desperate breath. I didn't blink, just shook my head in disbelief.
Why would she ever wish that on me?
Lisa knew everything and I tried my best in saving her. I asked Luciano to speak with Derrick the instant second I found him hurting her. I killed Derrick for her, to end her misery. I did everything I could do, and there were something's that weren't in my hand and for those mistakes, I had apologized to her a thousand times.
I always wanted her to be happy, wherever she was.
And she wished death upon me.
"Red," Luciano called my name.
"No." My mind was stuck. "No, no, you're mistaken, she would've never said that!"
He slipped a hand on my face and turned my head to look at him. "I know, I didn't believe it at first which is why, we will wait till my Mother confirms it. She's will be in Lunaris by tomorrow morning and by the time we are awake, we will know whether it was a rumor or not."
I nodded, swallowing the bile in my throat. It could've been just a rumor. I hoped it was. I knew Lisa well, we were best friend's since years, and we went through a lot of things together.
"Yeah, we should wait!"
"Don't worry about it, Red."
"I'm not." I sniffed, wiping the back of my hand against my nose. "I know her, she won't ever be against me!" I laughed at that thought.
To think that would even be a possibility.
"Yes, you're right." Luciano agreed, but he didn't sound like he was actually. He leaned down and kissed my cheeks before we set off into the night.
