Chapter 14

Luciano

"Dare tell anyone else that I'm dead." I growled at him from the distance we had between us. If it weren't for being stuck inside a cell room, I would've been enjoying Ben's remains.

The man, Dillion, was dazzled and he left without killing either of us after learning about who we were—warriors. The silence meant that he was considering our very precious lives and deciding on what he had to go next while we were still stuck inside the cell, with the doors locked this time.

I got rid of the chains quick and stood up.

"Aren't you going to free me?" Ben asked, battling his lashes.

I spun away from the door and reached for him. He turned around and I pulled the chains, breaking them apart and freeing him. "Don't be a dick."

"Come on." He rubbed his wrists. "It's not like you can stay here without the Alpha's permission. You need it, so do I. We need to stay here until we find Anna and the only way to do so is being nice to the Alpha. This is his town, his pack, his territory." Ben said, giving me a stern glare of honesty.

I nodded and approved his lies. "It's all right."

We studied the walls, any openings inside the cell and the metal door. When I pulled, I heard the shackling of chains and a lock from the outside. That bastard was smart enough to lock the cell as well. Ben made his way across and reached for the window, however, it's was way too high.

"No way out from here." He sighed.

"Shush." I rolled the handle of the door around my fingers and had myself focus on the faint whispers outside. There were pack wolves around here, walking, talking, laughing and I could hear them all.

The King's scent that I was born with was a flare for other wolves, even if they didn't belong from my pack. Anyone could sniff out a King from a crowd of a thousand wolves. But, I had resigned and that took away my scent, leaving me with my usual one.

I examined the silence for another moment before Ben let out a hideous growl, grabbing everyone's attention. I turned my head at him, out of complete anger for trying to ruin my moment of silence.

"What is wrong with you?"

"You want someone to come here, this is the only way." Ben stood behind the door and said.

Footsteps swayed at our direction and I moved away from the door, standing on the shadowed area, where there was no light. They came closer, eagerness lifting in the air as they wanted to check on what had been happening inside.

"Told you it would work." Ben shook like an excited puppy, his emotions spinning out of control, in the wrong way. He raised his hands to his chest and bounced on the ground, ready to attack whoever dared to step in. His wolf was in full control.

The pack wolves sprawled closer and one of them opened the door before walking inside. "Did you hear that?" A young man asked another one while his head poked from the little gap in the door.

"It sounded like a growl."

"Yeah. I heard Alpha had some prisoners down here but I don't see them." The same man said, looking around, unable to study the shadows we were hidden inside.

Ben jumped at him, his hands twitching as his claws surfaced on his finger nails. He attacked the young man and I grabbed the door and shoved it open before taking the other one down before he could harm my friend. The two young wolves were indeed boys then men, however, they showed great strength.

A fist struck at my face and I groaned at the pain of my jaw shifting. "You clearly have a death wish." I rubbed my fingers through my throbbing flesh and stared right into the soul of the boy that threw me a punch.

The boy's eyes widened when he saw the vexation spurring out of my eyes. "Code red!" He yelled out loudly, his voice echoing across the entire house.

I was enraged and the corner of my eyes spasmed before I lunged at the boy, intending on jerking his limbs out and slashing his throat into two but instead, I gave him a strike of my strength and he passed out on the ground with blood streaming down his mouth and spilling onto the flooring of the house.

I grabbed the other boy through his neck and slammed him to the wall before he hurt Ben anymore.

"Don't kill me." The boy begged.

I pushed my claws further into his throat and he struggled for a breath. The urge of bloodshed and death furthered inside me, and body heated up with rage. The boy was young and killing him wasn't really necessary but for some reason, I wanted too. The last few people I had killed were the witches locked up in the Blackmaw Castle before I burned it down. Killing the innocent was something I had never done, neither planned on doing but a part of me wanted to turn away from my own restrictions.

"Don't kill him." I heard Ben speak. "It's not going to help in finding what you want."

I took a sharp breath through my nose and my hand tightened. From the corner of my eye, I saw the Alpha, standing with his few men beside him.

"Leave the boy alone." Dillion said, standing a small distance away from me and holding his men back from attacking. "You don't want to go to war with us."

I pulled my hand away from the boy and he ran away from the area like a scared little animal trying to find a safe spot. I looked back at Dillion, who hadn't attacked me yet for almost killing two of his pack members. His cold eyes reminded me of someone—of Red but I didn't say anything, just stared.

"I'm surprised how you two made your way out of the cell and charged at my men." Dillion stated, walking in circles. "Usually when someone attacks us, we kill them, in cold blood. But, you two seem like a sober company that could be helpful."

Ben looked up. "We apologize for our behavior. Our intention to come here, in Gloucester, was to find something important. We don't want to harm you or your pack members." He explained with a fraudulent smile of happiness.

Dillion gestured at his men and told them to leave the area. Once they did, he began. "You two can stick around for as long as you feel like but, as long as either of you aren't attacking my pack mates or killing anyone. And, since I've a little trouble with the few other Alpha's and rogues around here, I'll ask you to protect me and in return, you are free to wander around."

"Excuse me?" I cocked my brow. "I'm the Ki—"

"A coward to not accept that offer. Thank you, Mr. Dillion. We will take it and promise that we won't attack anyone, unless you want us too. This way, we both are getting benefited." Ben cut me off again and stepped in front of me before I charged at the man who told me to become his fucking subject, even if it was for the time being.

"That's good. We are settled then. I'll ring you two when needed. Hope you find whatever you are looking for." The man easily walked away, leaving us free.

Adrenaline rushed into my veins and the temptation of killing Ben just grew. "What is wrong with you?" I whispered to him.

"Do you want to stay here or keep picking up fights? Dillion offered us a great deal. We can find Anna and Red's body without any problem now and if we don't, we can leave town easily and continue with our search. This ensure we—or at least I won't be killed." He explained.

I pulled the coat off the boy passed out on the ground and threw it over my shoulders while ignoring Ben. "I'm leaving and making use of my time while you can go help out Dillion with his problems. Goodnight." I gave a pat to Ben before walking away from the basement of the house and to the front door.

Ben followed me. "God, don't be so dramatic." He groaned behind.

Right before I reached for the ornamented handle of the house, my mouth went dry and a wave of anticipation settled at the pit of my stomach. I swirled around, staring at the steps of the stairs leading upstairs. It was a mansion, quite large in size but as it was the middle of the night, nothing could be made out.

A familiar scent attacked me, turning my limbs cold.

"On second thought, I'm just going to go upstairs."
