RR69 The Descent
The sharp, biting cold sent waves of fear straight into the heart of Darcy Lewis as the scream of wind blasted passed her ears. Never had she jumped from a plane before, although SHIELD had prepared her as best they could. Her only comfort was knowing that Natasha was down there somewhere beneath the mountain, as well as the fact that she was tandem strapped to Maria Hill, who had no doubt done this dozens of times. The wind was fierce at this altitude as they plummeted from 18,000 feet in a freefall until the parachute caught them. She had thought the freefall was bad, but she was in for a surprise when she discovered that they would be at the mercy of the wind gusts throwing them around with an open chute. How Hill knew when to pull the cord with near zero visibility of the snowy mountain was a mystery to her. And how she knew where to navigate for a landing was equally just as baffling.
She had lost sight of Bobbi Morse and Ksenia Romanoff the second they had jumped, right after her. They were all dressed head to toe in white winter gear; everything blending in with the icy surroundings. Even the chutes were white. After a not so graceful landing at the base of the mountain, Darcy discovered that Bobbi had made it first, and found them soon after they had landed with Ksenia right behind them. They carefully discarded the gear they didn't need and started the trek towards the entrance they were to take into the dangerous mountain looming above them.
"I can't see a damn thing," Darcy whispered, the wind taking the words away from her teammates so that they didn't hear her. She quickly caught up to them, and then cringed when Hill looked back at her with a warning.
"Move slow," Bobbi reminded her after catching the look between Hill and Darcy.
Slow, Darcy, she reminded herself. It wasn't that she could walk right off a cliff, it was because they were warned of several sniper nests being in the area. Even in their camouflage winter gear and blinding snowy gusts, moving too fast would draw attention to themselves. After a hard 30-minute walk and climb up, they were where they needed to be; but there was a problem.
"Three of them, flanking the highwall," Ksenia whispered through her balaclava as they ducked behind a rocky, snow-covered shelf. It wasn't like they could hear them from downwind, but they were so close to where they needed to be that they didn't want to leave anything to chance.
Darcy peered from behind her cover and strained to see what Ksenia had. Just barely, she made out the sniper nests armed with two-man teams.
Bobbi caught her eye, and then pulled down her balaclava as they huddled together. "Okay," Bobbi began, "we should split into three groups and hit them at the same time. Two-man groups tell us what, Darcy?"
"A shooter and a spotter," she replied quickly, recalling this lesson months ago inside the tower...from Natasha.
Bobbi grinned and then looked at Ksenia who was itching to go before continuing. "We need to time this perfectly. If a single shot goes off..."
"...We're screwed," Hill finished.
Bobbi sighed and then pulled her bo staff halves from their positions on her back, twirling them for dramatic effect and feeling more like herself than she had in months. "Then let's do this...boss?" she asked, looking to Hill to make the final plan.
"Ksenia, take the one on the left, at the base of the highwall. Bobbi, Darcy, the one on the right. Eyes on me though, I've got a small climb to get that bitch up the ledge. I need you guys to distract while I get up there, but don't draw attention to yourselves either. When my guys go down, tidy up yours."
The plan went off without a hitch and all three snipers' nests were taken out in a matter of minutes. They met up at the base of the highwall, and entered the mountain unseen, shedding their winter clothing right inside and hiding it within a vent right inside. Now in their signature black, they could blend into the shadows infecting the depths of the mountain.
Soon after Alpha team dropped to the base of the mountain, Bravo and Foxtrot were right behind them, though this time on the south side of the giant rock. Thor, Loki, and Tony made it to the drop zone before anyone else, and then chutes started to land around them. On this side, the wind wasn't as bad, so it was fairly easy to get where they needed to. There were no tandem teams on this drop, so Jemma Simmons, Agents Henson, Young, and Langston, and Clint Barton all made it without too much of a problem, except for Clint.
Clint made it to the ground fairly quickly, way ahead of the rest of the teams. He landed a little hard, rolling to absorb some of the impact while cursing up a storm. Tony of course couldn't help but laugh at him. "What? Are you trying to show off for the ladies, Barton?" he asked.
"Can it Stark, I had to pull my reserve," he admitted while shrugging off his pack and throwing it onto the ground in frustration. His main parachute had malfunctioned, so he was forced to pull his reserve in order to slow his fall.
Once everyone had made it to the ground successfully, they hid their gear and then trekked to the Athena entrance. It was eerily unguarded, but that was due to their surprise visit. Yuri had no idea how close they were to the mountain, and he had most of his men deeper within anyways. The second they stepped through the door, Loki grabbed onto his head, and a deep ache shot daggers of fear through him when he realized what was going on. He was now as ordinary as a human; his powers were blocked just like they were in the tower, though now he couldn't feel anything at all. As long as whatever shield buried his gifts was turned on, he wouldn't be as much help as he had hoped.
The team dropping after Bravo and Foxtrot all made it to the ground without so much as an ounce of ease. Half of the teams made it to the rendezvous at the Ares entrance and had to wait. Fortunately, Teams Charlie and Golf were the ones who were blown off course, but they had the most ground experience out of all of them to be able to navigate the difficult terrain. Delta, consisting of Steve Rogers and Agents Skye, Fitz, and Aleman would have been forced to wait over an hour for the rest of their people, but Skye made the point to Steve that they should go ahead and move on. Such a large group of people navigating the unknown contents of the mountain wasn't the best idea, and Holetz even suggested it. Fitz wanted to wait, but Agent Aleman agreed with Skye, and he was out voted. They too shed their winter gear and stashed it in a snowbank, and then headed inside. Skye had to hack the keypad, because for some reason, this entrance had security.
Navigating the tough terrain frustrated the teams that were blown off course to no end. Agent May took no joy in having to knock some sense into Agent Hunter after his endless complaining. It usually felt good to smack someone, but not this time. A wrench was thrown into their plans and skirting a mountain under dense snowfall made them all nervous. Not to mention, Agents Thomas and Ember, who were in the lead, stumbled into a sniper's nest. They took it out with skill in a matter of seconds, and no one else even knew what had happened until they caught up.
"Damn, you girls are scary," Hunter said with a nervous smile as he jumped into the nest and scavenged for anything they could use. Agents Thomas and Ember rolled their eyes at him before continuing on in the lead, not finding him amusing at all. May sent Agent Hadley ahead with them as well just in case they needed any back up, but she knew it wouldn't really be necessary as long as those two agents were together. Although not technically sisters, those two women were a legend in their own, having grown up as mercenaries together before joining SHIELD, and becoming almost as deadly as Agent May herself. They had been dubbed as the Twisted Sisters; having mastered many forms of martial arts, the 'sisters' are ruthless and lethal against their enemies.
Nearly thirty minutes after their jump, they made it to the original drop zone and found themselves without Delta Team. Knowing they could handle themselves, they made the decision to press on without them, and hope they caught up somewhere within the mountain. It was only when they were stashing their gear did they discover that Delta had stashed theirs already, and in the same spot. They must have had the same idea and went ahead without them. Finding that the entrance was protected by a code, Agent Singer went to work and got them in as well.
As planned, Charlie, Delta, and Golf split within the mountain and continued with their missions. Under Agent May's orders, Agent Thomas joined her team. She wanted one more agent with her to go after The Winter Soldier, just in case things went south. She also didn't see much sense in keeping the Twisted Sisters apart when they worked so well together. All teams were going down, into the depths of the mountain. Some of them were frustrated; why not just go in where Maria Hill's team went in, near the base? The rest understood. It gave Alpha team a head start to look for Natasha. And if Echo was tipped off as to having the enemy in the mountain, they would all flock toward the higher levels first 'to keep SHIELD from entering the mountain', to which they already have. The Artemis entrance was a 'secret' anyway. Communication also needed to be established all the way down if anyone wanted to communicate once they got down there. Each team was dropping the relays as they progressed, and within 20 minutes of the last team entering the mountain, comms were established at their level. Alpha team though, was still in the dark.
"How the hell do you remember where we are going?" Darcy whispered to Hill, who was in the lead of her team. "I mean, our comms are down, and this dingy map keeps cutting in and out."
"I memorized it, Darcy, now keep quiet. You never know what's around the corner and we have to stay invisible for as long as possible."
Yes ma'am, she thought, a little on edge. They had been inside for only a few minutes and hadn't seen anyone yet. Even though most of the action was quite literally beneath their feet, they still expected to see at least a single enemy. They sure were trying their best to make this place seem abandoned.
When Ksenia halted outside of a metal door, she hesitated before gently pushing it open. The tiny stone room was empty, so she backtracked and continued forward. Hill and Darcy cringed when they took a peek, and the scene replayed itself for Bobbi who shuddered at the memory; the color of rust still coating the floor after all of this time. It was where Natasha had protected Ksenia against Yuri's fury; the first time they both had the knowledge of who each other was in the same room.
"The map showed a door opposite the lab," Ksenia whispered, "based on that, it's our safest and most direct way down. Can you feel where she is?" she asked Bobbi, who pretended like she didn't hear her. "Bobbi, can you..."
"Shhh!" Bobbi deflected, "we need to stay quiet."
What? Ksenia thought along with Darcy. It just struck them as odd.
They found the door, but the hallway it led them to was unfinished. The stone was rougher, and the water pooled in fresh rivets along the ground. Not having been past this point, Ksenia swallowed down her unease and pressed on knowing that each step was bringing her closer to her mother.
"It looks like they moved some stuff down in a hurry," Hill exclaimed as she studied the fresh marks carved into the stone. "Let's keep moving, who knows if there are any guards left around. If Nat has escaped, these floors will be crawling soon."
At the end of the hall, they ran into an old elevator. Stopping short of the doors, Bobbi threw her hands up in frustration before attempting to take the only other route next to them; down a clearly abandoned hallway with horrible visibility. "There is no way in hell we are taking that thing," she called back.
"Bobbi wait!" Darcy yelled in a loud whisper. "This is the quickest way down! What? You are going to let a rickety old elevator turn you away and instead take a very scary tunnel?"
"It's been less than an hour since we got the message," Ksenia reminded Darcy as she and Hill followed Bobbi without hesitation. "That rickety old elevator opens up only one way, and we have no idea what's down there when it does open. We don't want to announce our presence just yet."
"Oh..." Darcy muttered when she realized what they were saying. "We have to be sneakier; but how the hell..." she trailed when she stopped behind her team, all pulling out climbing gear. "Mine shaft? Nice, but how?...
"It wasn't exactly on the map," Hill said to Darcy as she geared up in the dark, "because it's not an official way down. It's perfect; near zero chance at being discovered. Great call Agent Morse."
Ignoring the praise, Bobbi instead climbed into the dark hole and the zing of the rope and carabiners echoed off of the walls as she descended. "Okay..." Hill said with most likely a roll of her eyes, "lets hustle; Darcy, drop another communications relay."
Darcy quickly pulled everything together and followed Hill with Ksenia right behind her. They obviously couldn't get all the way down, there simply isn't enough rope for that. Instead, they pulled themselves back onto another floor and surveyed the unfamiliar surroundings. The game was now much more dangerous in the heart of the mountain. Darcy had to hide her smile; she realized that she was thoroughly enjoying herself. It was as if being an agent and going on top secret missions was what she was born for. It came so easily to her, and she was loving it. She only wished that this mission did not include Natasha Romanoff being in the situation she was in. She had and was reliving some of the worst moments of her life, convincing herself that she was less than good. Natasha was strong though, and Darcy knew that behind her tortured soul, is a story that gave her no choice.
"Where are we?" she ended up asking as she followed her team in the darkness on this unknown floor...if you could even call it that. It was more of a mountain tunnel, very unfinished and forgotten to time. No one answered her as she worked her jaw to clear the pressure from her ears, but she heard Hill shuffle her arm, which told her that she was checking her GPS system built into her watch. All technology was still dark; the other teams hadn't caught up to their first communication relay yet. "How far behind..."
"Shhh," a voice whispered gently behind Darcy as Ksenia pulled her back against the rough stone wall. The tiny shuffles of the rest of her team followed their move, pressing their bodies against the wall and becoming quieter than silence itself. Seconds later, stealthy footsteps sounded at the end of the tunnel where it met another. The steps passed it, but Darcy suddenly realized that this mission wasn't as fun anymore; it was more like some kind of wicked game of cat and mouse. It was incredibly dangerous and she had almost given them away. She only moved once Hill did, and she gently bumped her shoulder to Ksenia in a silent thanks. They were now deep enough that danger was now more prevalent. Following the path the enemy just took, they went even deeper.
Higher up in the mountain, it was essential that the communication relays were being set by the other teams. As the teams descend, they should meet up with Hill's first relay, the entirety of the track forming a 'Y' inside of the mountain. Only then would they be able to have a secure connection to SHIELD. The tricky part would be finding where Alpha's first relay was.
"It's rather dark in here," Agent Jemma Simmons remarked to Thor and Loki as she moved along with her team as well as Starks.
"It is, isnt?" Tony said, "should we find a light switch and turn on some lights? I'm sure it would make it easier for us to see. And, you know, let everyone in the Red Room know that there are people on this floor. Maybe they would think a mouse got afraid of the dark and flipped it on."
"Tony..." Clint warned as he noticed the hurt look in Simmon's eyes.
Hiding the hurt, Simmons sighed in disappointment. "Of course I didn't mean it like that, Mr. Stark. I was just making a point."
Tony was on edge, not liking their current situation. They were moving steadily and quickly through rough tunnels, paths, and then the occasional more developed levels. It was the developed levels that had him on edge. There were floors upon floors, all separated through tons of rock that Simmons referred to as 'experimentation floors.' There were labs, cells, and guard rooms on each of them. The labs told Simmons that they were set up for different things based on the equipment in them. And the equipment...it was old. A lot of these floors had been abandoned long ago.
Loki and Tony soon fell into pace together without realizing it, and Tony couldn't help but notice the grimace on his face. "Hey, you okay?"
Loki glared at him for a moment with the type of look he used to give back when he was lost, but then softened when Tony looked taken aback. "Sorry, there is a pain in my head and I wasn't thinking straight."
"Did you just apologize to me?" Tony asked with a sly smile, "I call that progress." When Loki ignored him, Tony sighed and cut out his sarcastic ways. "Loki...are you okay? Seriously, you can talk to me." After a long pause, he figured that Loki wasn't going to say anything and was about to cut his losses and have Thor talk to him, but he then sighed and opened up.
"The moment I stepped into this mountain, I felt... I don't know. I've never felt this way; I don't know how else to say it. My powers are still there, but I can't seem to get them to work. It's not just my body anymore."
Realization then hit Tony. "Thor!" he called in a loud whisper, causing the group to stop. "Langton, Henson, Young...scout ahead with Simmons will you?" He redirected firmly. When Thor and Clint asked him what was up, he asked Thor a very strange question in return. "Thor, I want you to hit me with your lightning."
"Are you mad? Everyone will know we are here!" he nearly shouted.
"Okay," Tony said, "then make some sparkles for us."
Looking at him strangely, Thor did as he was asked, but nothing happened. A look of confusion crossed his face and he looked at Loki and Tony in slight fear. "What is going on?"
Tony tried to smile, but then quickly realized that they were screwed if they needed to rely on powers to get out of there. "Your powers don't work down here," he informed them. "They have the shield, or whatever, around this entire mountain. You two are as normal as the rest of us now."
"What about my hammer?" Thor asked as if deeply offended he would suggest such a thing.
"Your hammer?" he asked, and then Tony smiled slyly. "Hand it to me."
Thor did as he was asked, and then fought hard not to laugh along with the rest of them when the hammer hit the floor with a solid, metallic *clank*, with Tony still holding the hilt for dear life.
"Still not worthy," Thor teased and picked it back up, relieved at the fact that he could at least still wield it.
Shaking off the news, they pressed on and came up on Simmons getting defensive towards the other three agents.
Knowing that these floors had been abandoned long ago, Simmons was defending SHIELD against these other agents. "I know what I saw." As they found themselves making good time, Clint caught the agents with them discussing the validity of the intel Simmons had provided them based on the vision from Bobbi. He caught the tail end of it before snapping at them to follow orders. Catching up to him, Tony opened his mouth to say something but Clint shut him up with a warning look.
"What did they say?" Clint asked Simmons, who still looked a little on edge from the conversation.
Simmons nodded over to the corner of the very old room, guiding their eyes over to a new age computer port. "They were wondering how a base as massive as this has never been discovered. I plugged in and tried snooping around, but there was nothing; it was wiped." She then thought again when Skye had told her that Hill was covering up for Nat and her team, effectively keeping Fury in the dark. "They did raise a good point though," she admitted, cutting her eyes over to Agents Young, Henson, and Langston. "What if SHIELD did know?"
Tony shook his head, "are you saying..."
"Well I'm not saying it, but..." she hesitated, embarrassed to even think such a thing, "what if there are moles within SHIELD? HYDRA, perhaps?"
Clint snorted in disbelief, dismissing the crazy idea and done with this conversation. "Dont be stupid, Simmons. That would never happen."
Back with teams Charlie and Golf, Agent May sent the Sisters ahead by themselves to find the first relay while the rest of them splintered and spread out within the top parts of the compound. She wanted to cover as much as she could, lest the Winter Soldier could be kept up here and they miss him on the way down. It was unlikely, but she became more uncomfortable with having such a large group behind her. They were all still working their way down, but at least now they were a little more spread out. Hunter had finally shut up, but she sent him with some of the others as a lead. As soon as they connected with the other teams though, she planned on leaving Singer and Roan up here to keep an eye on things. If they could get past the Red Room soldiers, then the soldiers could get past them too.
Alpha team was making amazing time, and that was a little worrisome. If something happened and communications still weren't up, no one would be able to get to them in time. They were deeper in the rock than they ever thought possible, and some of the surroundings began to look familiar to Bobbi. They had passed numerous men, but stayed hidden each time as it became difficult to avoid them, following them down deep into the mountain since all maps were still out. Darcy smiled as they took an elevator at one point, but they were above it instead of within. The eye roll she received from Bobbi was almost worth it.
They spread out then, stealthily hugging the walls as it got busier around them. Hill was in the lead, but suddenly, Bobbi caught up to her and took point; she knew where she was. They slipped into a room but Bobbi had suddenly disappeared.
"Where..." Ksenia started, but then dropped it when the blonde stepped out from behind a bookshelf and jerked her head for them to follow. They found themselves in a smaller room, and collapsed onto the floor for a moment to rest. Their tensions were high and it was nice to be able to relax for a moment and breathe.
"I saw Nat here," Bobbi admitted, telling them that this was the second part of her vision. This is where I told yall Arina spilled about the optic feed, and that she was going after the Winter Soldier to fry his SIIED."
"Agent Hill then stiffened and put her finger to her lips in a warning to be quiet as she posted by the entrance of their hiding place, "someone's here." She had her handgun drawn, but everyone knew she wasn't going to use it in such an enclosed space, or tip off anyone else around that they had infiltrated the mountain. There were multiple ways to use a gun that didn't involve pulling the trigger. The silence became deafening, but suddenly, a familiar face popped out from the other side, just as Darcy yelled for Hill to freeze from slamming the butt of her gun into the guy's temple. She grabbed him instead, and pulled him into the small space and sent him sprawling in surprise.
"Shit!" he yelled in surprise, recognizing them, but also not expecting them this soon. "When the hell did you guys get here?"
"Nice to see you too, Dove, Darcy said sarcastically, but extended a hand to him anyway to help him up. He wasn't even on his feet for two seconds when out of nowhere, a fist cracked into his face, sending him right back into the rough stone as he spit blood onto the grimy floor.
"Oops," Bobbi said coolly as she shook the pain from her hand, "I slipped."
Agent Hill shot her a death glare, but even she knew that the hit was warranted and let it slide, along with a sly smile.
"Yeah," Dove said as he got up on his own this time, noticing how Darcy also cracked a smile to the blonde next to her, "I deserved that."
A look of pure hatred emitted itself from Bobbi's blue eyes, but she made no more attempts to knock him back on his ass. For now though, he thought it would be best to stay away from her, being that he technically killed her not too long ago. He didn't really blame her and hated himself for having to carry out the plan in the first place.
"Where is she?" Ksenia then asked bluntly. Dove noticed the hopefulness in her purple gaze, as well as the features that immediately screamed Romanoff. When he didn't answer for a moment, Bobbi moved closer, so he moved further, bumping into the black haired woman that held a commanding gaze. She was the one in charge.
"I...umm, I lost her," he admitted, knowing that there wasn't really another way to put it. He had done as his aunt had told him, giving her the adrenaline boost to get her going, but then he had to move.
If he thought the hatred filling Bobbi's eyes were startling, the disappointment now filling them hurt him even worse. An emptiness now exuded from her blue orbs, and Dove desperately wanted to change them, but he couldn't. He would have to make up for his mistakes with her somehow; he couldn't stand to see her look at him like that.
Darcy then blocked his view of her, and bewilderment was now the emotion of choice filling the room. "What do you mean, you lost her?" she demanded.
"After Arina got her to me, we had to move because they would have known where we were. You know, due to the optic feed from Arina. Ana was hot on our tail, so I stashed Nat somewhere so I could lose her. By the time I made it back, she was gone and I've been looking for her since. I hoped she would have come back here."
"So," the black haired woman began, "do we know where the other one is? Yelena?"
"Hill," Bobbi said, revealing her name to Dove and him becoming surprised that this is Agent Maria Hill, Director Fury's right hand. She was a legend just the same, and he couldn't believe he was in the same room as her. When she looked back over to Bobbi, understanding filled her gaze. "She hates Nat almost as much as Yuri. She's going after her."
"Most likely," Dove agreed. "So what's the plan here? Please tell me it isn't just you four in this hellhole."
Hill looked at him suspiciously, but he seemed to have proven himself as an asset. "We aren't alone," she clued, but said nothing further about numbers. "We need to find Romanoff. Do you have any idea what may have happened. Could she have wandered off herself? Or do you think someone found her?"
"Who the hell knows!" Dove nearly shouted in frustration. "A million things could have happened, but our main priority right now is getting those nightmares shut down in the Closet. If they get moved, the world will be at stake. I thought we made that clear."
"Oh it was crystal," Bobbi said with a tight expression, "but our mission is Nat. Get in, get out. Simple as that. Now, are you able to help us with that or are you here to delay us any further?"
Dove was conflicted. He wanted to help them find Natasha, but he also knew of the dangers of letting those men move with the Toska Contagion implanted in their lungs.
Darcy saw his confliction, and knew exactly where he needed to be. "We need to keep our group tight," she started. "Dove, you could be more useful helping our other team with the lab and experimentation data that they are after."
"Nice," Hill said with a nod of approval, and Darcy continued as she beamed.
"You know where to find it, so if you meet with Agent Simmons, it would help us out a lot. Maybe even find the 'cure' that just has to exist."
"I can do that," he agreed, "but what about everyone else? Yuri is down here, Natasha and Barnes, there are so many other records and projects, the super soldiers, the little girls..."
"Dove!" It was Ksenia this time who stopped him, "We told you, we have a plan...wait, did you say little girls?" she asked in surprise.
"Yeah? Yuri's 'Little Widow's? I thought Arina took care of getting that information to you?" His gaze met Bobbi's and she looked away before sighing. "She pushed me out, I didn't even know she could do that but she did just as things were getting rough."
Dove sighed, "Well shit."
"And that's not all," she admitted, continuing. "As soon as I stepped foot into this mountain, I lost any connection I had with her. I can't feel a thing right now."
"Well," Hill sighed, "that puts a wrench in things, but some of Hunter's team could go after the girls once communication comes online. It shouldn't be long now," she realized, "most likely within the hour."
Minutes later, the women had sent Dove on his way to find and meet up with Jemma Simmons and her team. They then slid through the gap behind the bookcase, and continued on in their search of Natasha with a warning from Dove to watch her when they did find her. She was out of it when he had left her, but Arina had said that she was a ticking time bomb. Most of her wounds had healed, which was good for her, but that also meant she had most of her strength back.
They were traveling in their spaced out pattern again, and were forced to take out several members of the Red Room. They avoided it the best they could, but there were just so many of them down there now. Eventually, they got to a point where they were cornered, but had 6 dead bodies stashed in one of the rooms behind them. Darcy couldn't do it, not yet, and shot a thankful glance to Bobbi who had ended their lives for her. If they were left alive, they would tip off Yuri that they were there, but in the end, it didn't matter.
Agent Hill was right around the corner from the group after being separated, taking care of the last one. She had one half of Bobbi's bo staff still in her hand from where she had tossed it to her after encountering several more men moments ago, and she attempted to slam it into one last guy who had suddenly appeared with even more men behind him. Darcy, Bobbi, and Ksenia were still safely around the corner, and she knew they had not been spotted yet; she only hoped they didn't run out behind her and get themselves captured. In a haze, knowing she wasn't going to be getting out of this one, slammed the cool metal down, expecting it to collide with soft flesh. A loud *clang* of metal on metal rang out instead, confusion rushing into her body before a hard blow brought her to her exhausted knees. The staff was wrenched from her hands, and cracked across her face, stunning her and forcing her to give up before any more harm could be done; she was vastly outnumbered, even if her team that was listening safely from around the corner backed her up.
She was then jerked from the floor as her vision cleared, and she came face to face with the Winter Soldier. He was supposed to be on their side...Dove screwed with the brainwash, right? she thought. He looked rough; his eyes looked determined, but behind them, she could see that they were tortured. His face was void of any emotion, but she had rarely even seen him with any emotions at all, so that wasn't unusual for him. When he grabbed her shoulder, he dug his fingers in and caused her to grimace before a bad feeling overcame her. The men around him then parted like the Red Sea as a woman walked through them, Hill's mind flicking to Natasha for a moment, but it wasn't her. It had to be Yelena.
"Is this her?" she asked him in a thick Russian accent, looking her over and then finding the half of the bo staff Bucky had taken from her. He raised the staff as if saying, 'of course,' and then pushed her towards Yelena. "Agent Morse," she voiced as she caught the woman, venom dripping from her lips as she stared at the woman who was connected to Natasha Romanoff, "we finally meet. Who else is with you?"
Maria Hill fought to keep the confusion from her face at being mistaken for Bobbi, but Bucky knew exactly who she was. She was going to roll with it, because if they wanted Bobbi, they had to keep her away from them; but why did they need her? Yelena moved behind her then with a gun drawn, just knowing that she couldn't have been alone. Once she saw around the corner though, there was no one there. Hill didn't hear any commotion, so she assumed they had found somewhere to hide because it was a dead end. The red head made her way back over to them, and then pushed Maria forward, marching her to who knows where.
Bucky though, did not move with them. He stayed where he was, and then walked backwards a few steps away from them before speaking to thin air. "I've got her, find Natasha." And then without another word, he followed behind the people he despised most.
"What the hell just happened!" Darcy exclaimed when the coast was clear, dropping from the venting that lined the ceiling above them. They called it dumb luck, but they would take it where it was given. "How did they even know you were still alive? Did they really think that Hill was you, Barbie? What else do they know?" she asked the blonde that dropped right after her. Ksenia followed, and stared longingly down the hallway Bucky had disappeared into.
"At least Bucky is on our side," Bobbi said, shrugging her shoulders uncertainly, "but what do they want with me?"
"Who the hell knows," Darcy said, about to take off in the direction Hill was taken as dread overcame her.
Bobbi grabbed her shoulder, and spun her in the opposite way. "Not so fast Sparky," she mocked, "you heard Bucky. He's got her back, we need to keep looking for Nat."
Ksenia nodded her head at that, agreeing with the blonde but also on edge about how they knew Bobbi wasn't really dead.
"What?" Darcy fought, "no, we can't just..."
Ksenia pushed her then and led. "We can, and we will. Let's go; they know we're here."
Just as Hill had said, the comms then jumped to life, Tony being the one to speak first. They had made it to the start of Alpha teams first relay drop. It was staticky at first, they were still pretty deep. "Alpha team, do you read? Alpha team...if you don't answer me in the next five seconds..."
"...you'll what?" Darcy challenged, clearly in a bad mood at having to leave the Deputy Director of SHIELD behind in the hands of the enemy.
"Oh thank God," he said, "wheres Hill, we need a status update."
They all dodged the question for a moment, not wanting to be the first one to tell them that she was taken. Bobbi spoke for them all, being the only other senior agent. "We haven't found Nat yet, but we are close. Listen up everyone, we just got discovered, but they don't know how many of us are down here, so we still have the element of surprise. They will be swarming soon. We ran into Dove, and we sent him to meet up with Simmons; that cool?"
A british female voice piped in with an "absolutely!"
"We also have another problem as well..." she started, not knowing how to say it, "Hill got captured."
The line then exploded into chaos at the same time they started to come up on more Red Room members, so they needed to keep quiet. "We have it under control. Alpha going radio silent."
"Well that went well," Darcy whispered as she flicked her silver chain from her wrist, readying herself for the next fight.
