Chapter Thirty Five

I don't remember falling asleep but I did. Waking up it was starting to get dark outside and I realised I must have slept the day away. Something hard was beside me and turning to look behind me Parker still laid beside me, the hardness under my head was his arm and I slowly sat up, feeling stiff from the awkward angle I had been in. He put his phone into his pocket and stood up, cracking his neck and stretching I realised how uncomfortable he must've been too.

"Feeling better?" he asked softly, looking at me concerned. I shrugged. I had to get over it; otherwise I'd just give up and wait for the end of this miserable life. James needed me. He needed someone who had unconditional love for him to help him through this world. Thinking about him made me frown deeper and Parker came around in front of me, pulling me against his chest.

"You do know you drool when you sleep right?" he teased as I finally pulled away. I shot him a look unimpressed and headed to the bathroom. "Just joking. You're adorable when you snore" He laughed heading into the lounge room as I turned on the shower. I felt better after I showered; the water had been kept cold to wake me up. I needed to focus. I had to get out of here. Finding Parker still eating I sat down opposite him. Catching my gaze his eyebrows went up, his dark eyes growing darker.

"You look like you mean business" He offered me some of the soup he had on the small wood fire stove but I shook my head not wanting any.

"If I can get out of here, will you stop me?" His eyes searched mine curiously and watching him I knew he was fighting his own internal battle. "I can't sit here waiting for whatever she is going do. Come with me. Finn had an escape for me before, we can all go" I was hoping the promise of staying together would help his decision.

"And then you'll back to him won't you?" he said it as more of a dare than anything else, I could hear the acidity to his words and I gulped not liking his change in attitude. He went back to the stovetop and took the pot off the heat, pouring the contents into a bowl.

"It won't matter. They will find us. They're witches. They can do that" he sighed shaking his head. "I have tried to get away and instead that bitch Eileen tracked me down in Canada. I don't regret killing Penelope but I do regret all that crap that follows me because of it. Don't go" He took the bowl and walked over to the sofa not saying another word.

I waited until he was asleep and got up. But I couldn't sit here any longer. I put my boots on at the door and crept out. The moon was high in the sky and the chill in the air felt refreshing rather than cold. I walked to the gate boundary and put my hands out. I could feel the energy of whatever it was in place blocking me in. I focused on the anger like I had earlier and sure enough the tingles seemed to move through my body as if they had a mind of its own. Sure enough I saw the sparkle from my palms and pressing my lips tight I glared at the air in front of me. Despite the clear night, a bolt of what looked light lightning shot down from nowhere, the impact as it stuck me sent me flying back against the house almost into the walls. It took me a few moments to get up; dazed and disorientated I started to run. And this time nothing stopped me.

Or so I thought. I had just reached the forest line and muscles I hadn't used a great deal lately were already burning, the growl that sounded from me behind me made me go faster. The snow-covered ground was like trying to run through sand and I felt like I was getting nowhere fast. The sounds of him entering the forest caused my heart to jump into my throat. He was going to catch me. I jumped over a fallen tree log and upon landing my leg gave way and I crashed down hard. A small scream escaped me as I fell, and I quickly scrambled to get up. But the fall had proved costly as looking behind me the black and white wolf leapt over the log and pinned me down. Memories of my dream from when he had killed Penelope flashed into my mind, besides the snow it was just like that. Would he loose control? Is this it? I thought of James and wasn't going to leave him alone. Stuck on my back as the wolf growled over the top of me I did the only thing I could think of. My good leg was brought up with as much force as I could muster and kicked him in the stomach. A slight yelp came from the creature as he stepped back, giving me enough space to get up. And I ran.

"Elizabeth stop!" Parkers voice echoed about the other wise silent night, his tone was thick with the similar power I had sensed from my own tone when my wolf had taken control. And it worked. I stopped dead in my tracks, my wolf urging me to go back to him. Turning to face him he stood a little taller dropping his hand from his stomach. My kick must've hurt. He looked beyond angry, fear grew in the pit of belly and if I was a wolf, I was certain I'd stopped and dropped to the earth in submission. But I wasn't a wolf. Not yet. Realisation dawned on him as I stuck up my middle finger and then I ran like I never had before. Sure enough the panting of his wolf came behind me and I knew I couldn't out run him, but I wasn't going to give up so easy. I dodged and weaved through the foliage, hoping my human steps would be nimbler than the bulk of his wolf. I felt the satisfaction of it working as his steps stopped from behind me and I kept going.

What I didn't anticipate is he had changed direction and done a circle around and when I did realise this, it was to late as the wolf blocked my path. He quickly shifted glaring at me.

"Why are you so god dam stubborn? I told you to stop" He growled, his breathing was uneven but nowhere near the gasps that had taken over now I had stopped.

"You... don't tell me to do anything," I snapped back, bending over slightly as I rested my hands on my knees, working hard to regulate my breathing. He watched me for a moment and with my body protesting loudly on all I had just put it through I wasn't in the mood. "Stop looking at me" I growled back, I instantly recognised my tone as my own Alpha voice.

"You are an Alpha" he said amazed. I stood up and stretched slightly, the cold starting to get to me.

"We established that before. Remember I was meant to be the 'mate' of one" I said sarcastically, putting emphasises on the word mate. He shook his head and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"No, you are an Alpha no matter who you mate with. If anything happened to Will by default I would take over – I was also Beta. Authority comes naturally to me. Since we mated you should have lost any Alpha rights, any authority you possess unless I become Alpha or took back Beta in the pack" I couldn't help the shivers that shook my body now. It was freezing. My wolf seemed to agree to his words, she always knew what she was meant to be. At this point, I didn't care.

"What ever. Are you going to take me back?" I wrapped my arms around me trying to keep some warmth around me with no luck. He came over and I let him pull me against him. He was so hot I welcomed the heat his body offered.

"Well isn't this sweet" The voice had me jumping away from Parker in a flash, finding Mum glaring at us. "He will take you back. Now" she snapped and walked back to where I saw headlights a few meters away. Parker was tense as he took my hand, and giving up for now we headed back to the cottage. She was waiting for us as we headed back to the cottage and I didn't look at her as I stormed past but her hand reached out and stopped me. At the contact Parker was at my side in an instant, his eyes dark as the slight tremble gave away the fact he was close to shifting. Smirking Mum dropped my hand.

"Seems I underestimated you. How did you get the wall down?" she said sarcastically, waving her hand around the house.

"Maybe I take after my mother after all," I snapped back, glaring at her. Before I could brace myself her palm collided with my cheek, if not for Parker standing there I would have been knocked to the ground. To busy holding me he didn't shift but his grip was so tight I was certain he would leave bruises. My hand went up to my cheek as the burn from her hit made it go red instantly and I flexed my jaw stiffly.

"Know your place" she threatened and headed inside. While I assured Parker I was ok I heard her frustrated scream. Before we could move she back in the doorway. "You – you were in my room?" she said in disbelief. I smirked and stood a little taller.

"Like I said, maybe I take after my mother" I knew the tingles were in my hand ready to go and I prayed it would work. Thinking of when I had pushed against Parker when I first saw him here I imagined throwing her to the side, waving my hand swiftly I concentrated on the hit. And it worked. She practically flew across the yard, landing roughly against the small brick wall. I grabbed Parkers hand and went to run while he stood frozen in shock at what he had just seen. I had only taken two steps when my chest restricted, I couldn't breath. I fell to the floor instantly, pain stabbing my in the stomach again and again. As I opened my eyes I noticed Parker was struggling as much as I was. Looking over Mum had just stood up, wiping the blood that had trickled from her nose and beside her stood the woman I guessed to be Eileen. She looked near identical to my Mum. Long brown hair and bright green eyes but her face was more heart shaped. She did not look old enough to be a grandmother to a nineteen year old and like people had mistook Mum and I for sisters, it would be easy to do the same with her.

"I see my Granddaughter has her fathers spirit and her mothers abilities" she greeted, dropping her hands the pain let up. Instantly Parker shifted, the large wolf blocking me from view of the two. Eileen laughed at the protective gesture before her gaze got intense as she focused on him. I felt his wolf struggling to keep staring at her. Her eyes squinted slightly and I could feel the pain he was suffering flowing off him. He growled and snapped his jaws towards her but she didn't flinch and finally the big head dropped, the body following and he was left still on the ground.

"Now if your little mate does as we say we wont have to hurt either of you" she looked at me expectantly.

"Go to hell" I spat at her, but before I could even try to move I went flying into the house. I heard Parker whine as I hit the ground, what ever had him held down was still there. Not giving up, I got up. "Is that the best you can do?" I challenged. Her green eyes seemed amused and looking at my Mum who was hardly paying attention to anything but her still bleeding nose, she nodded at me slightly. The pain in my stomach had me falling to my knees, as I couldn't hold back the scream of agony that escaped me. A high pitched ringing sound echoed in my ears until the point I was sure my head would explode.

"Now will you do as we say?" The ringing disappeared as my body ached from the torture. I lifted my head up defiantly and with trembling limbs stood back up.

"Never" She shrugged and I don't know exactly what happened then, but it felt like a fire was burning me from the inside as and when I thought my skin would finally be burnt through everything disappeared and I was back in the darkness.

Opening my eyes I was back in my room in London. Confused I looked around; everything was how it should be. The clock on my bedside table ticked over so it was three am. Everything felt so normal, had that all been a dream? The bathroom door opened and William walked out in just his black silk boxers, rubbing his eyes sleepily.

"Did I wake you?" he asked softly, lifting the blanket he slipped back in beside me. I shook my head and was quick to climb on top of him. "I only went to the loo" he laughed as I clung to him as if my life depended on it.

"Am I dreaming?" I asked, trying to fight the tears of relief that threatened to erupt. It couldn't be a dream. It was to real, there was a slight hint of mint on his breath from where he had brushed his teeth before bed, the lingering scent of his cologne drifted from his skin and the tingles that always seemed to pull me to him were in overdrive. He kissed my neck where Parkers mark had been, only bare skin now it sent shivers down my spin. It was ok. It had just been a really bad dream.

"You are Beth. But I'm coming for you. Wait for me" he murmed into my ear. At his confession my chest ached from a broken rib, my legs were weak and my head was throbbing.

"Nooo" I cried, pulling him tighter against me as if that would keep me there forever.
