Chapter #1

I looked in my room to see no one in it, thankfully.

I was hiding from my older brother and well let's just say I was in alot of trouble with him if he ever found out, because I had decided to take his shirt again.

It was a very nice shirt, who wouldn't? That and it was my favorite color red.

Laughing I grabbed my red cloak off my bed and ran down stairs after putting the shirt under my bed and saw my Mom putting sweets inside a dark oak wood basket.

"Oh Red, I was just about to call for you." Mama said once she saw me.

"Oh? What for Mama?" I ask as I sit on a chair that was tucked under the small wooden table.

"To bring this to Grandmother, she's been unable to come over with her old age these days. So I made her some sweets and bread, can you take it to her? I have to keep the business open while your Papa is at work, and your brother is sick in bed today." She says as she gets a blanket and puts it over the sweets, it was the regular plaid one, also hearing the news of my brother being sick brought relief that I would not be bullied for taking his red silk shirt again from the washed clothes. Though I do wish he felt better soon.

"Alright Mama, I'll do it. It's been awhile since I've been to Grandmothers." I say then stand up from the chair, putting the chair back underneath the little table and went over to the counter where the basket lay.

For some reason I felt like today wasn't going to turn out like every delivery or every time I went to Grandmothers.

It felt dreary.

I shrugged it off and put my cloak on and clasped the metal parts together, and put the hood over my head, in which it hid my bright red hair that I got from my mother. Actually I looked alot like my mother even if I was a boy, I had a slight curve of a girl and big eyes of a girl, the biggest and brightest green eyes is what Papa says. I was also tiny, for a 16 year old, and I was glad I still had a chance to grow.

"Thank you dear, I'll leave you some sweets, so when you come home you'll have some of your own, don't eat your Grandmothers alright?" she says as she hands me the basket and kisses the top of my head then sends me out the door.

Once out the door I started skipping, people said hello here and there. And some of my friends called out for me to play. "Sorry Jack!! I've got to get to Grandmothers!!" I say as I keep skipping.

Jack was a very nice boy, he said he found a goose that layed golden eggs and a harp that plays by itself. I haven't seen this yet, I was to busy helping Mama and Papa with deliveries.

I stopped at the edge of the forest and I looked up at the huge trees that tower over me and every building in the village.

I love the woods, the forest I mean, it was its own living being. It sang when the wind came through and carried the voices of the birds chirping. It's color went around and made it dark in areas but was brighter then it was outside the big thick forest.

Sighing contentedly, I skipped inside the forest following slight trail that could only be seen by the trained eye.

I wasn't really allowed to go this way ever since my best friend Goldie went missing a couple months back, they say he was taken by some predators, 3 of them, he was always so innocent to, to innocent if you ask me. But I am too in a way.

I don't really know by what kind, so how am I supposed to know what to look for, I just hate how he was never found.

I miss him dreadfully so.

Picking up my pace, since I was lost in thought I had been walking, so I started my regular thing of skipping and humming an unknown tune, which was pretty good if I said so.

I then felt eyes on me, a prickling sensation on the back of my head, I turn to see nothing, but when I turn back to the front of me there it was, a wolf.

A huge black one with a white patch on its chest.

I squealed in surprise and in fear, but then it disappeared when I blinked.

Putting a hand over my chest where I could feel my erratic heart beating as fast as a scared mouse.

Sighing, and thinking I may be paranoid of the tales of a wolf living in the area lately.

In which it wasn't true, cause if it were, our greatest hunters would have gotten it by now.

Or at least I think so....

I started skipping once more, wanting to finish the job so I could go home and eat. And possibly see what Jack was blabbering about.

As I was coming up to the river I heard a growl making me stop and almost trip and once I heard it again I turned wide eyed to see nothing but trees, grass and wild flowers spread around in the random patches of sunlight.

I turn back around to keep going only to bump into something.

I go to fall only for this 'Something' to catch me skillfully.

Luckily for me my hood stayed on and did not reveal my face. It's the one thing I liked to hide. The only people who have ever seen my face were my closest friends and my family.

I just really like keeping my self mysterious to others, that and I don't like being stared at.

"Oh I'm sorry, are you alright?" Asked the something.

I look up to stare into bright red eyes. Though he couldn't see mine. His hair was the darkest color I've ever seen, it seemed to be darker then night itself. He was amazingly handsome as well, almost eerieish like. But still very attractive.

"I'm perfectly fine, thank you for catching me." I say as I push him away from me so I could stand on my own and not be in his arms, that I so wished to be in after I left but pushed the thought aside.

They were warm but something told me not to be in them for to long.

"That's good, sorry but if I may ask, what are you doing out here?" he asks, his voice as soft as silk yet with a rough edge to it.

I looked at him for a moment before speaking. "I'm sorry, but I was taught not to speak to strangers." I say and start walking away but he grabs my arm and pulls me back to his chest.

He smiles at me showing large teeth. "I'm John Wilk."

"Hello Mr.Wilk, I'm Red Baker." I tell him if only to be polite and try to push off from his chest, but his arms that were wrapped around me tightly just wrapped even tighter around me.

"Red?" He asks a hint of amusement in his voice.

I rolled me eyes. "Yes, Red. My Grandfather used to go by that before he died, I was born and he died the next day, I wasn't named yet so they named me after him. Though I don't mind it one bit. Red is my favorite color."
Not one bit hesitant to tell him for some reason.

"Ah, .... Now since we're not Strangers anymore......will you answer my first question?" He says making a point.

I thought for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Oh, right, I guess we aren't anymore. I'm taking this to my grandmother. She's been having a hard time lately with her old age." I lift the basket of goodies just to show him my reason.

He smiles as his eyes take a glance at the dark wood basket. "Well that's nice of you."

But something made me stare at his teeth, his canine teeth, they were as a wolf and looked just as scary, I just had to stare, this was the second time I really noticed, but beside being big they were sharp looking.

"Yeah I guess so......" I say letting my thoughts drift else where.

"It's dangerous here, it'd be better if I walk with you if you don't mind?" He says looking somewhat curious but also very serious.

"Alright,...." I agree hesitantly.

And that's how I got a companion on my way to Grandmother house.

And how everything became dreadfully bad and yet oh so alluring.
