some legends are told
some turn to dust or to gold
but you will remember me
remember me, for centuries
centuries ─── fall out boy
central park, new york city
may 7, 2012
It's about three days later that Dad and I drive towards Central Park, knowing that that's the designated place where we will meet up with everyone us. While Dad cruises us along, I keep my headphones in as I flip through the different news reports on my phone. I see a collection of different people pinning up different letters and objects to missing or dead loved ones. People light candles in remembrance of those lost to them. I see the streets of New York covered in rubble, dead Chitauri, and their old weapons. News reporters take interviews of New York's residents and I grin when I see them wearing clothes designed after the Avengers' uniforms. I actually giggle when I see a man styling his facial hair after my dad. Parades are being held in our honor while some people cheer for us while others remain critical and view us as "threats".
Some people are never pleased.
An old man with white hair leans over the back of his chair, "Superheroes? In New York? Give me a break!"
My jaw drops and my eyes squint.
I think I know that guy!
I get distracted from the old man, however, when I see the New York senator giving us heat, "These so called 'heroes' have to be held responsible for the destruction done to the city. This was their fight. Where are they now?"
I actually scoff aloud.
What did they want us to do? Say, 'Welp, this looks hard. See ya guys later! Have fun being ruled by a dude with weird hair and major daddy issues!'. Please. This wasn't our fight. This was the earth's fight. Um, you're welcome.
More interviews continue and I kind of tune out until I hear mention of our names, "The billionaire wearer of the Iron Man suit, Tony Stark, has a sixteen year old daughter, Lisa Stark, who was a major component in the battle that took place in New York. We hear rumors that this young girl," I roll my eyes, "was the one who actually closed the portal after her father redirected the nuclear bomb. Along with her father and the rest of the 'Avengers', this girl, who the citizens of New York are now calling the 'Red Raven', saved us all."
My heart picks up pace for a moment in realization of what the news reporter just said. The Red Raven? Oh my gosh, a superhero name! I was dubbed with a superhero name. I feel jittery with excitement.
I like it.
The Red Raven.
It's catchy and kind of cool.
I smirk.
"Whatcha watching?" Dad leans over to look at my phone as he continues to drive us towards the park.
I direct my smirk over to him, "Us."
As we arrive at our designated place in the park, Dad and I both smoothly climb out of our Ferrari. The entire spot has been blocked off by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and they stand around in dark suits with sunglasses. If they are attempting to be indiscreet, they aren't doing a very good job. I link my arm with Dad's as he holds a silver suitcase in his other hand. He smirks down at me when his eyes flash in my direction. As we walk towards the intricately designed cement railing, everyone else walks near us. Bruce, Steve, Natasha, Clint (he's told me to call him that instead of 'Barton'), Thor, and, my most favorite psycho, Loki. Loki's wrists are handcuffed and he's wearing a metal gag so he can't speak.
We all come to a stop and watch as Dad sets the silver suitcase down onto the concrete. Running my healing hands through my hair, I kneel in front of it and turn the key in the silver lock. Taking a deep breath, I gently pick the glowing blue cube up and bite back the wince that comes with being near the Tesseract. Bruce helps me put it safely inside a glass tube that Selvig holds, ensuring that it won't ever hurt anyone ever again. Steve glares at it and takes a heavy breath as my fingers release the cube and it locks within the glass cylinder.
My eyes flicker up to Selvig's and we share a small smile before I step back away from the tube and the Tesseract. Thor takes the handle of the tube and touches Selvig's shoulder as a means for goodbye. Nat and Clint still watch the Sinister Christmas Tree before she leans over and whispers something to Clint that makes him smile. Before he can walk back to Loki, I slide over and hug Thor, although it feels a little awkward with all of his weird armor in the way. He gives me a warm smile and turns back to his brother, giving him a stern and solemn expression.
I ease back between Dad and Steve, staring at Loki as he stares daggers at the rest of us. That is until his eyes find mine and then it's hard to understand. His green eyes are now full of angry understanding. Thor holds the other handle of the tube out to him which he irritatedly takes. The God of Thunder looks around at the rest of us. His team. He gives a small nod with a hint of smile before he twists the handle of the tube. I grit my teeth at the pain and cross my arms over my chest. Suddenly they are both engulfed in blue light, and Dad puts a hand on my shoulder, stepping the both of us back. We all look up as the beams pull away and they disappear, leaving a strange marking on the concrete.
We all move to say our goodbyes.
I turn to Steve and smile up at him, "Don't forget our chat about a certain lady, okay, Old Timer?"
He gives a light laugh and nods, looking to his feet, "Okay, Kid."
I laugh too and then hug him tightly, "Bye, Steve."
"Goodbye, Lisa," he gently releases me, "I'll see you soon."
"I'm sure," I nod with that same fond smile.
Dad and Steve shake hands as I give Natasha and Clint their own goodbyes. Nat hands Bruce a bag before turning to me.
"You and me. We need to have a certain conversation about a certain someone's certain crush," she raises an eyebrow and her lips turn into a smirk.
"Oh, shut up, how old are you?" I can't fight the blush that comes before I roll my eyes and teasingly kick at her leg.
She laughs and I wave to Clint who gives me a smile despite his serious awesomeness. They both climb into a S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicle, wordlessly.
Man, they are cool.
Bruce and I make our way back to the sportscar where my father waits. After pulling open the door, I hoist myself up and sit down behind the two seats on the back of the car.
Bruce climbs in the passenger seat while Dad sits in the driver's seat. Bruce is going to be hanging with us for the next few weeks which will be nice for Dad, I imagine. Finally someone will be understand what the heck he's talking about a lot of the time.
Dad presses hard on the gas and I gasp, desperately clinging at the headrests so I don't fly off of the car. Dad merely laughs and grins back at me in the rearview mirror. I playfully roll my eyes and look around as our team continues to split apart. Clint and Nat drive off in the opposite direction in their darkly-tinted windows while Steve climbs onto a classic looking motorcycle and drives behind us for a few minutes before he turns a corner. I quickly give him a wide smile and he gives me a wave. As I turn back around, I rest my elbows on my knees and just watch the open road in front of me.
When the tower comes into view, I can't help but grin up at it. A solitary 'A' still hangs where the word 'Stark' used to be. I find that I don't really mind. After all, it's not really Stark Tower anymore. I knew it from the moment I saw Loki standing inside of it. It's something else now. It belongs to something more.
We've all gone our separate ways. Not even S.H.I.E.LD. knows all of our plans. Our team is apart for now, but I know with the kind of trouble that we all seem to get into, it won't be for long. They've promised to come back when the world needs them to.
They'll be back.
The world needs them.
The world needs the Avengers.
Conclusion! What did you think?!
Yus! Stan Lee was back at it, Boys! She like nearly recognizes him each time. One of these times, I might just have her be like, 'wait a second, you're Stan Lee!' and he'll be like, 'you don't even go here!' cause you know, she's my creation, not his. I want to sooo bad - I'm going to have to come up with something clever like that (I haven't watched Deadpool, but I know they totally broke the fourth wall at that point and that's funny so we'll see). Well anyway, a small little conclusion for you right there! Aaaand Lisa finally has her superhero name! Yay!
Next is the mid-credits scene!
