Chapter 21: Getting Ready

*edited*

The warm water rippled around Grace's naked form as Cas rubbed oils and lotions all over her body, her hair pinned up; so not to get wet. Cas was humming a tune to herself as the other maids rushed around her room cleaning and getting everything she would need ready.

" What is that you are humming? I am sure I have heard it before." Grace asked gently as Cas poured a rose smelling substance into her shoulders and began to rub it over the rest of Grace's body.

" It's an old song written many years ago." She told her with a smile.

" Sing it for me, it may help calm my nerves." Grace told her softly as she continued to rub the substance into body.

" You will see the white wings of an angel, they bless the world at night." She sang in low tone, Grace immediately remember where she had heard that song. When she was younger, her father would sing this to her mother whenever he could.

"With love and hope they give to all. So we can sing and dance." Cas continued to sing as Grace remembered the last time she heard her father sing the song. She was looking through a crack in her bedroom door, it had been night time so her parents thought she was asleep as her father held her mothers hips gently. He looked down to her with gentle green eyes that held immeasurable love. His low voice so calm and affectionate to her mother as they swayed together. Her mother smiling so brightly as they shared this treasured moment with each other.

"But they blessed you very most, with beauty I can see. And though I may be miles away, your beauty still shines to me." Cas sang as she rinsed her clean skin through with water to rid it of the substance.

"Now you are my darling Angel sent, from the heavens above. For only me to love and hold, until my very last breath. " Grace sang with Cas in a higher pitch. They sang in a gentle in a perfectly balanced harmony, Grace allowed a single tear to fall as she remember her mother and father.

" There all done, now out you come." Cas told her as Grace nodded wiping away her tear and stood up to step out of the warm water. Cas wrapped a piece of cloth around her to take the water off that remained on her body. The door then opened to allow Wilma, Alice and Jane to walk into her room with boxes in the maids hands, who walked in behind them.

" Set 'em on the bed." Jane told the maids as Wilma smiled to Grace.

" Big day, are ya ready?" Wilma asked her with a large smile, Grace could only return half of the smile.

" Not as much as I wish to be." Grace admitted, maybe it was just her nerves acting up that caused this feeling to swell inside of her. But in a way, she was dreading the wedding and everything that this day would bring to her. Wilma chuckled and walked over to the bed and began to help the girls open the various boxes that where scattered on her large bed.

" Do not fret, it only be wedding tremors. Most brides experience such on their wedding day." She told her as Grace pulled on her undergarments; Wilma pushed her over to the vanity desk and sat her on the chair. Taking the pin from her hair too allow the red strands to fall down over her back. The gentle waves looked like a waterfall of flames as it drifted down her back.

" I have never seen such beautiful hair." Alice spoke as she stepped up on Wilma's right side.

" True be that." Jane spoke with a smile on Wilma's left, Jane handed Wilma a brush and soon they began to pin her hair up in many different styles. Grace liked them all, but was not happy with them completely as most were just a little too elaborate for her. Then fourth time lucky as Wilma pulled back the front sides of her red hair in twisted round to the back of her head, the rest of her red hair waved down the her back as she pinned small white orchid flowers along with a few tufts of white heather that had just been freshly picked that morning.

" Perfect." Alice swooned over Grace with a smile and a hand over her heart; Grace blushed at her looking down gently.

" Okay, time to get the dress on." Wilma said placing her hands on either of her arms to lift Grace up from the seat and over to stand in front of three floor length mirrors, turning her so she was facing the mirrors. Wilma, Alice and Jane then began pulled white fabric from the many boxes and arranging them before walking over to Grace with the dress in hand. They carefully move the dress over Grace's head so that it slipped on over her hair, twisting it to make sure it was placed right. Alice pulled her long red hair up and moved it over her left shoulder too allow Jane at the corset strings.

" Tell me if it be too tight." Jane muttered as she began to tighten the laces, pulling Grace in thinly. Jane then quickly tied the white silk ribbon in a neatly form bow to keep the laces in place. Grace looked to her reflection in the glass and took in a heavy breath before holding it, she could feel her nerves heightening with every second passing. The dress was simple and elegant with a white over bust corset covered with thin patterned lace; adorned with white bows centered with pearls falling in a line down the center. The lace caped sleeves covered her shoulders encrusted with small white diamonds. The skirt of the dress fell in a soft white silk that ruffled at the floor to reveal white netting which gave it it's body and shape, pushing the skirt outward just further than her shoulders. Alice fixed her hair once again moving behind her back as Wilma helped put on the white lace cover heel booties and smoothed the dress back out.

" There, all finished." Wilma whispered as they walked back to look at Grace completely; taking in their masterpiece with a happy smile.

" You look beautiful." Alice smiled softly to Grace just as the door opened and heels clicked against the floor.

" Grace?" A high pitched voice called as Grace turned around to see a woman with long black hair pinned up with some strand hanging loosely down just past her ears. She wore a deep purple dress that was very extravagant with many ruffles and patterns everywhere. Her deep brown eyes reminded Grace of John's as the woman walked over to her with grace in every single step.

" I am Elizabeth, John's younger sister. I am sorry I arrived so late, I had to make sure things where left well back at my home. It is finally nice to meet the woman who has capture my brother's stone heart so helplessly." She smiled brightly to Grace, who dipped down in a gently bow to her, Elizabeth returned the same gesture.

" My you really are as handsome as he calms you to be." She smiled warmly to Grace who returned it softly as her eyes fell to the ground with a deep blush.

" Thank you, Mrs Elizabeth." Grace whispered to her, John had never really spoke about his sister much. So Grace knew nothing of this beautiful  woman before her.

" Please, you may call me Beth, as the rest of the family does. Which is exactly what you will be after to day." She smiled to Grace who lifted her head feeling more confident in her presence. Beth took Grace's small delicate hands into her own and gave them a gently squeeze.

" I was as nervous as you on my own wedding day. But trust me, it only gets better with your husband." She smiled, trying to boost Grace's confidence and take away those nerves she was no doubt feeling. Grace's heart pounded as the time slowly approached for her to walk down the aisle towards a new life.

" Aveline, come." Beth called looking behind her to a personal maid who walked up with a small white box in hand, tied with a silver coloured ribbon.

" This was my own at my wedding. Something borrowed." Beth told her as Grace opened the ribbon and lifted the lid up off the box to reveal a white lace choker necklace with a large pearl surrounded by silver designs.

" It's beautiful." Grace whispered as she picked it up out of the box and held it within her hands. Beth smiled and took it, motioning for Grace to turn.

" My mother had it made for my wedding." She whispered as she tied the white thin ribbon to hold the materiel to her neck. Grace turned around and looked to Beth with a soft smile and tears forming in her eyes.

" This is too much. I have never felt this blessed before." Grace whispered to Beth who smiled and placed a hand onto her cheek.

" It will only get better." She whispered with a smile.

" So, the dress is something new. My necklace is something borrowed. Now all we need is something old and something blue." Beth told her as Grace thought quietly as she remember something her mother gave her. She turned and walked over to the vanity drawer and opened the top white drawer.

" My mother gave this to my when I was younger. She told me it has been passed down the females of our family for many generations." Grace spoke as she lifted up a silver brooch shaped as a thistle, Grace smiled and ran her thumb over its smooth surface.

" Its beautiful." Beth smiled and she studied the small metal piece no bigger than her pinkie finger.

" We could put this on the bouquet of flowers. The blue is a small flower that has been place in the bouquet." Wilma informed the as she brought over a bunch of white flowers the had purple heather within it. A single blue flower was place at the front as Beth pinned the brooch onto the material that held the flowers together at the stem; quickly handing the flowers to Grace.

" Time to go." Beth smiled softly as she turned as walked out the room, Grace following behind her. Her heart raced with every step she took; slowly edging closer to her her new life with John for eternity.
