➼chapter 3; floo powder and snow globes
❁❁❁
Every few minutes or so, Serena would check the time, watching as 5pm slowly, but surely rolled around. Going back downstairs, Serena took out a few bottles of butterbeer before heading over to the living room, waiting for green flames to appear in the fireplace.
Five came and went. Ten past five, then fifteen past had Serena sprawled out on the couch in boredom. "Those two idiots probably Floo to the wrong house." The girl muttered before standing up and squatting in front of her fireplace, peering inside to make sure there was nothing wrong on her end.
Suddenly, bright emerald flames burst from the inside. Before Serena even had a chance to move out of the way, two figures came toppling out of the fireplace with a loud gasp, slamming Serena down to the floor. "Ouch! What the- what happened?" Serena groaned as Ramona's duffel bag smacked her face.
Ramona Harris and Magnolia Mulberry hurriedly rolled off their friend, brushing themselves off as they stood. Ramona helped Serena up, apologizing profusely while Magnolia looked as if she was trying her hardest to keep a straight face.
Magnolia, the tallest of the three, had a sharp face, piercing sapphire blue eyes, and long, wavy brown hair that faded into a soft blonde toward the end. If there was one word to describe the brilliant, trouble-making Ravenclaw, it would be stunning. Though seemingly unapproachable at first due to her cold gaze and stoic facial expression, Magnolia has an incredible sense of humor, and a caring side she shows through actions, rather than words.
Ramona Harris was the shortest of the group (the two other girls towering over her by several centimeters), with burgundy coloured hair and warm hazel eyes. The Hufflepuff's fair skin, rosy cheeks, and welcoming smile always brought a sense of comfort and love to Magnolia and Serena. Kindhearted and always happy, Ramona follows the rules thoroughly, but will always be there for her friends when they get into trouble.
"Merlin's beard, I'm so sorry, Rena! We didn't mean to fall on top of you!" Ramona gave her a sheepish smile, scanning Serena as if to make sure there were no broken bones or growing bruises.
The girl only huffed, rubbing her shoulder that hit the wooden floor particularly hard. "In my experience, you come out standing straight when you use the Floo Network, not crashing into the person in front of it." She said, narrowing her eyes at her two best friends.
Ramona looked even more guilty, if that were possible, while Magnolia merely shrugged. "Well, you shouldn't have been standing right in front of it."
Iyla suddenly ran into the living room before Serena could retort, fists raised high. "I heard yelling, who's dying- Oh! Hi Nolie, Mona!" The two guests offered Serena's younger sister a smile, while she tilted her head at the state of their clothes: wrinkled and completely covered in dust and soot. "What happened to you two?"
Before either girl in question could answer, Serena pointed an accusatory finger at them. "They nearly flattened me! Tumbling out of the fireplace as if they haven't got two working legs!"
Iyla placed a hand on her hip, raising an eyebrow at her sister. "Nearly flattened you? Well, you shouldn't have been standing right in front of the fireplace."
Magnolia laughed, giving Iyla a high-five. "Exactly what I said!" She turned her gaze to Ramona before dropping her rucksack on the floor, plopping onto one of the chairs. "Go on, Mona. Explain what happened."
Ramona put down her own duffel bag, chuckling nervously as all three girls watched her expectantly. "So, what had happened was... I sort of... Floo to the wrong house?"
"Floo to the wrong house?" Iyla repeated.
Serena snorted. "Knew it."
Ramona's cheeks heated up in embarrassment as she timidly nodded. "It's been a while since I've used the Floo Network, living with Muggles you know, and had forgotten to say the destination loud and clear... and it took me to this random house."
Magnolia rolled her eyes. "I just knew she didn't make it here, so I had to go get her." The girl started to chuckle evilly. "Wanna know what I saw when I found her? Ramona running around in circles while this really large man with a humongous axe ran after her! If only I had my camera in my hand!"
The entire living burst into laughter, faintly hearing Ramona say, "It's not funny, it was terrifying!" in the background.
"And- and that's not even the best part! The Floo Powder was located at the highest shelf of their bookshelf, and short little Mona couldn't reach it before she was picked up from behind!"
Figuring she couldn't stop their roaring laughter, Ramona crossed her arms as she indignantly sat down on the closest couch. "You all are evil, you know that?" Serena was practically rolling on the floor, while Iyla was wiping away tears, the image of Ramona struggling against the strength of man holding her up in the air already forming in their minds.
"The guy hadn't noticed me pop in the fireplace, a little preoccupied trying to stop Ramona from climbing up his bookshelf." Magnolia was fully immersed in the story now, a grin on her face. "When Mona finally managed to wiggle out of the guy's arms, she ran straight for the backyard; he was barely able to keep up with her as the chase resumed."
"The man would not let go! Even when I told him I was not trying to maliciously destroy all of his precious snow globes and just wanted the Floo powder, he wouldn't listen!"
"Oh, yes!" Magnolia exclaimed, shocked she had forgotten such an hilarious detail. "The left side of his bookshelf had books, right. But the right was entirely covered in enchanted snow globes! I kid you not, floor to ceiling! Must have been a collector or something."
Iyla snorted at that. "So how did you guys get back here?"
"That, my friend, is a good question." Magnolia raised her legs to hang off the edge of the chair. "While Ramona kept snow globe guy distracted, I grabbed our bags, the Floo Powder, and calmly walked to the fireplace. Mona came sprinting into the house, hiding behind me. The last thing we saw was that axe so close to slicing our heads clean off before we ended up here."
Ramona rolled her eyes. "Oh, come off it! You were just as scared as I was!" Magnolia didn't respond.
Serena managed to finally calm down, standing up from the floor to get the butterbeer, passing it around. "You two made my Saturday."
"Glad we can be a source of your entertainment." Magnolia said as she rose her glass to Serena, before popping off the cap.
"Well, I'm certainly not. That experience was utterly horrifying! I'm scarred for life!" Ramona frowned. But just as Serena handed her own bottle of butterbeer, her face lit up in a grin. "On second thought, if that had to happen in order for me to being able to drink this right now, it was totally worth it!"
The four girls laughed, and caught up on their summers. Even though Iyla was two years younger than the rest, they included her without a problem.
Soon 7pm rolled around, and the only way the girls knew two whole hours had passed was when Maisie Mallard had returned from the Auror Department in the fireplace, scaring the wits out of Ramona and Iyla, while Serena and Magnolia simply looked up with a smile.
"Hey, Mum!" Iyla and Serena said at the same time, cheerfully waving as their mother smiled at her daughters.
Maisie then turned curiously toward the two newcomers. "Hi, girls! How was your summer? I didn't know you'd be coming by today."
Magnolia kept her legs hanging off the edge of her chair, answering nonchalantly, "It was rather boring, to be honest."
Ramona, on the other hand, immediately shot up from her seat. "I'm so sorry for intruding on your home, Mrs. Mallard!" Ramona turned to glare at Serena, who was silently giggling in the corner. "I was under the impression you knew we would be coming."
Maisie shook her head. "Ramona, dear, you and Magnolia are always welcome here. And how many times have I told you to call me Maisie?"
Ramona reddened slightly, mumbling,"quite a few," as she sat back down.
At this point, Maisie couldn't hold in her laughter any longer. "Girls, it's alright, I actually knew you'd be here."
All four girls snapped their heads to stare at Maisie, who was standing there laughing. "But Iyla and I didn't say anything to you?"
"You may not have, Serena, but Emilie did."
Magnolia rose an eyebrow at that. "My Mum? Why would she..." Suddenly, her eyes widened as she quickly sat up. "You're going with us, aren't you!"
Maisie nodded enthusiastically while the three girls seemed to look even more confused. Noticing this, Maisie said, "Care to elaborate, Magnolia?"
The Ravenclaw gave her a knowing smile. "Certainly. Maisie already knew about us being here because she's got a ticket for the World Cup herself, courtesy of my sister." Magnolia laid back once more, watching the effect of her discovery in satisfaction.
"Wait- WHAT?"
"YOU'RE COMING WITH US?"
"NOW WE'LL HAVE PROPER SUPERVISION!"
Everyone looked at Ramona. "Er... my sister Azalea was coming with us, remember?" Magnolia questioned.
Ramona nervously played with her hair set in a high ponytail. "Yes, well, Azalea is amazing, of course, but not the most... how you say, mature adult, you know? No offense."
Magnolia laughed. "None taken, Mona. She can barely be considered an adult, with the way she acts. Azalea knows it to!"
Serena, ignoring their conversation, turned toward her mother. "So you had a ticket all along?" Her eyes widened in horror. "WERE YOU GOING TO GO BY YOURSELF AND USE WORK AT THE MINISTRY AS A COVER?"
"Goodness no, Serena!" Maisie was laughing so hard she had to sit down. "Emilie was going to give me all five tickets, but I thought it'd be funny to let you lot think you couldn't go for the whole summer and then surprise you right before! Beside, why in the world would I miss the Quidditch World Cup?"
Serena and Iyla were both torn between hugging their mother and pouting in a corner. Finally, they settled on rolling their eyes. "Of course you'd think that was funny." The sisters said together.
"You pieced that together quite fast, Nolie." Ramona said with a curious glance.
Magnolia shrugged with a lazy grin. "I'm a Ravenclaw. It's what I do."

Author's note:
Hi lovelies! I really like this chapter, but at the same time, not much of a fan of the ending. :(
This was mostly a filler so you can get to know the character's a little more. Perhaps I'll rewrite it later on.
What do you all think of it?
P.S. I'VE GOTTEN NEARLY A HUNDRED READS? ALREADY?? I'm gonna cry, thank you all so much💜
With tons of love,
~Lena
