Skinner Brothers

One Year Later

John Marston and Uncle get off of the train to Saint Denis as Uncle had heard that Charles Smith was alive, and from what he heard Charles wasn't doing good.

"Back in Saint Denis...I never liked this place." John sneers as he steps onto the platform of the train station. "Well me neither." Uncle said as he stretches his back then the two men begin to walk off of the station. "All right. Let's go find that big sour bastard." Uncle said as they make it to the street.

"Sure...let’s split up..." John suggested. "Good idea...I'll take the saloons, you take the slums." Uncle said. "Now how about I take the saloons and you take the slums?" John asked as he walks away.

Uncle grumbles at this then goes the opposite way and begins to question people where they might know where Charles was. Eventually, he found someone saying that a man that fit Charles' description was doing fist fights at Saint Saturnines.

Uncle thanked the people and started heading that way. As he was walking along the streets, he heard a couple of voices but one of them said a familiar name. "You have done well, Mr Morgan." A voice said and Uncle turns to see Arthur talking to a curly blonde haired man. Uncle couldn't believe his eyes as he saw Arthur Morgan standing some feet away from him.

"I appreciate it, Oliver." Arthur said and Oliver pats his shoulder. "Say hello to the Mrs for me. I'll see you later." Oliver said as he walks away. "Thanks..." Arthur said and he starts to head to his horse.

"Arthur?" Uncle calls out and Arthur turns to him. "My Lord, it is you!" Uncle exclaims as he comes up to Arthur. "Uncle? You still around, you old sack of crap?" Arthur asked. "Oh, is that any way to greet an old friend?" Uncle asked. "More of an old irritation." Arthur said, as Uncle stands in front of him.

"What are you doing here anyway? How was that?" Uncle asked him. "I was talking business with my boss, if it's any of your concern." Arthur said and Uncle blows a raspberry. "That pretty boy there?" Uncle asked. "Yeah, he co-owns a lumber yard and I work there. And Oliver is actually Annebeth's really father." Arthur said.

"Oh, yes. Little Annebeth! How is she? And what about (y/n)?" Uncle asked him. "They're good. Annebeth's growing. So are the others." Arthur said. "Others?" Uncle asked. "Yeah, (y/n) and I have three kids together. Two boys and a girl. One of the boys (y/n) just gave birth to." Arthur said.

"Well, you old dog, look at you. Raising a family! Better than what John's doing..." Uncle said and this peeks Arthur's interest. "John? He's still alive?" He asked. "He sure is! He's here in town with me. We went to go look for Charles." Uncle said. "Take me to him..." Arthur said and Uncle nods and they began heading to Saint Saturnines.

"So...whatchu mean I'm doing better than John?" Arthur asked as they walk down the streets. "Well....Abigail left John...took Jack with her too." Uncle said. "What?! Why?" Arthur asked, stunned, and Uncle shrugs. "Cause he's an idiot." Uncle replied as they make it to Saint Saturnines and see John there.

"John, lookie here! Went to find one source bastard, ended up finding another one!" Uncle calls out and John looks up and his eyes widen in shock as he sees Arthur.
"Arthur?!" John said, shocked. "Hey, John." Arthur said and John walks up to him and the two give a quick hug to each other. "Oh, it's good to see you, brother." John said and Arthur smiles. "You too!" Arthur said.

"I enjoy a reunion but we need to get Charles." Uncle said and they walk over to the side of the building. "So, you still with (y/n)?" John asked Arthur. "Yeah, we're still together. Now what's this I hear about Abigail leaving you?" Arthur said and John glares at Uncle. "It's...a long story." John said as they go around the corner of the building to see white balding man standing next to Charles, who had his back to them.

"We both know what you gotta do. I'm leaving now..." the man said to Charles and he goes over to the crowd of men that were gathering around a few feet away. "He don't know the half of it..." John said and Charles turns at his voice and sees John and Arthur while Uncle goes over to the gathering crowd.

"John? Arthur? You're..." Charles said, shocked, and they nod. "We're alive. So are you." Arthur said as Charles laughs and gives a handshake to both men. "So is he." John said as he nods towards Uncle. "That's Uncle?" Charles asked, shocked, as he looks over at him.

"What are you doing?" John asked him, concerned. "I don't know...I'm alive." Charles said, shrugging. "Uncle thought maybe...you was in some sort of trouble." John said to Charles. "K-Kind of...just...I don't know...I..." he stammers then he leans in to the two men. I'm throwing fights for a few dollars." Charles whispers. "Throwing fights?" Arthur said, confused. "Sure." Charles said as he stands up straight. "And you like that?" John asked him. "Of course not." Charles said, shaking his head.

"So..." John and Arthur said, still kinda lost why Charles was doing this. "So...let me go place a bet. C'mon." Charles said as he pats both Arthur's and John's shoulder then goes over to the bookkeeper.

"Man, I thought you two were dead..." Charles said. "Sure..." Arthur said as John nods. "(Y/n) and Annebeth are alive too..." Arthur said and Charles smiles. "That's good to know. "Abigail's still alive too, only...she left me." John said and Charles pats his arm, sympathetically, then goes to the bookkeeper.

"Excuse me, I'd like to place a bet." Charles said to the bookkeeper. "On who?" The man asked. "On myself, to win. Lone wolf." Charles said. "How much?" The man asked and Charles digs into his pocket and pulls out some money. "All of this." He said and the man takes his money. "Okay. Funny thing....I pegged you for the favorite but the odds just got really good." The bookkeeper said then he turns to John and Arthur. "What about you, gentlemen? A little wager in the wolf here? Real redskin brave...." the bookkeeper said as Charles walks off to get ready for his fight.

The two men share a look then they nod before they turn to the bookkeeper. "Sure, I'm a fan of the Wolf. Give me a bet on him." John said as he hands him some money. "Oh, hell...give me one too." Arthur said as he hands the bookkeeper money.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, gather round, gather round...have I got a treat for you. An epic battle between the descendant of ancient warriors and a not so noble savage." The announcer said as John, Arthur and the bookkeeper go to the crowd and see the announcer standing between Charles and a big white man.

The announcer turns to his left, to the white man. "On my left, the ferocious battler from the valleys, Simon of Wales." He said then he turns to Charles. "And on my right, an Indian Hercules...the savage, the untamable, the unbeaten and dare I say the unbeatable, Lone Wolf." He said and Charles and Simon get ready in position as the crowd cheers.

"You know how this works...no weapons, no forfeiting, no crying like a beaten child. Everything else goes. You win by knockout, you win by retirement or you win by death. Let's have a good fight boys. Let's keep it clean. But not so clean." The announcer said and he steps away and Charles and Simon begin to punch each other.

Minutes later, Charles had the upper hand and he knocked Simon out, which meant he won. Charles raised his fist in the air then made his way out of the crowd and goes over to his clothes. "Come on, lone wolf...better get you the hell outta here." Arthur said as he comes up to Charles, John right behind him, and they begin to leave.

"Hey, Lone wolf, whoa!" The bookkeeper said as he runs up to them and they stop and turn to him. "Wow, made my month...but you also made some fellers mighty unhappy." The man said as he hands Charles the money. "So it goes." Charles mutters as he accepts his money. "Here's your share, gentlemen." The bookkeeper said as he hands John and Arthur their money and they leave.

"So you keen on staying round here? Or heading off with me and Uncle?" John asked. "Or you can come stay with me. (Y/n) would be happy to see you again." Arthur said and Charles smiles. "But I haven't seen you boys in years." Charles said. "I know but...my sense is you just need to lie low." John said as Uncle comes up behind them.

"Where?" Charles asked. "We got a little place up past Blackwater...in the high country." John said. "Okay, I gotta grab my baggage. I booked up a steamer heading up river. That's why I was pretending to throw the fight." Charles explained.

"Okay, boys...I'll meet you at the bridge outside Saint Denis." Uncle said and they all stop and turn to him. "What are you going to do?" John asked him. "Just have a few errands to run..." Uncle said and John scoffs. "You're useless." He spat. "I...I'm a deep thinker." Uncle said. "You mean a deep sleeper." Arthur said.

"Just be quick." John said and he, Arthur and Charles. "This way...my bag's on the dockside." Charles said. "So, John, you mind telling me why Abigail left ya?" Arthur asked and John sighs. "I was able to find work at a ranch north of Strawberry and things were going good. But the owner, Geddes was having trouble with a rival ranch owner. The owner and his men kept coming up to the ranch and cause trouble. They wanted to buy his ranch but he refused. I was trying to keep the bastards out and Abigail didn't like that. Kept telling me to quit being the hero." John said as Arthur and Charles listened while they walked along the streets of Saint Denis.

"Then one night those bastards came into the night, killed some of the workers, stole some cattle and set fire to a couple of stables. So me and a couple men went out and made sure those bastards would never come back. Seemed like that was the last straw for Abigail cause the next day...she packed up her stuff, and Jack's too, and...they were gone." John explained and Arthur sighs. "Marston..." he said, sounding a bit disappointed. "But I'm making it up...I got a loan from the bank and bought that plot of land in Beecher's Hope. Gonna try to make that the home Abigail's always wanted." John said and Arthur sighs again.

"That's good." Arthur said. "What about you, Arthur? What have you been doing these last few years. "Well, we've mainly just been traveling around here and there, finding jobs to raise money to get our own home. And last year, I got a job in a lumber yard, acting more as a guard." Arthur said. "That sounds nice." Charles said. "Yeah...Oliver had been helping us out alot lately. He even helped us get a house built." Arthur said.

"Oliver? That name sounds familiar..." Charles said. "That's Annebeth's real father. He wanted to help make up for the fact that he left her and (y/n) behind before I found them." Arthur said. "Oh, yeah...I remember (y/n) told me about him while you were in Guarma. She said she ran into him at that point." Charles said and Arthur nods.

"So now we have a home, I've got a job and (y/n) and I have three kids of our own. Two boys and a girl...Just had one of the boys 'bout two months ago." Arthur said. "Wow, sounds like you've been doing well." John said, impressed. "Yeah, sometimes I keep thinking this is all a dream and that I'm gonna wake up and find myself back with the old gang. I use to believe that I would never get this kind of life after everything I did but...somehow I got it and I honestly don't know what I did to deserve it." Arthur said. "We all lived bad lives, Arthur, and you had a choice to leave that life behind. And you took it when it came to you. So did John." Charles said and Arthur nods.

"Anyway, I'm sorry I didn't come to find you boys. I heard all of you were dead." Charles said. "And me the same to you." John said. "Me too." Arthur said. "Dutch?" Charles asked. "Who knows? Dead, maybe. I'm not sure..." John said while Arthur's jaw clenched at his. "For his sake, he better be." Arthur growls and John pats his shoulder. "Anyway, I've heard all kinds of things, but one thing I know, he ain't around here." John said.

"What about Micah?" Charles asked. "He was close to death the last we saw him." Arthur said. "Really?" Charles asked. "Yeah, as we were escaping, Micah caught up to us and Arthur and I fought him and Arthur, here, almost beat him to death. But the army was getting too close, so we ran and left him. So he's either dead or arrested." John said.

"You know he was the one who was speaking to them agents?" Arthur said to Charles. "What?!" Charles said, shocked. "Putting them on us the whole time...or since before I got off Sisika." John added. "They picked up Strauss. The agents. Made a real mess of him. I heard he died in custody, never said a word." Charles explained and John sighs while Arthur shakes his head.

"I guess some folk is strong in ways you can't see." Arthur mutters. "Everything that happened...all those deaths...Micah?" Charles said, confused. "None of us is innocent in that...Dutch least of all..." Arthur said as they come upon the docks and start to walk over to the side when Charles noticed a group of well-dressed men.

"Hold on." Charles mutters to them. "What?" John and Arthur said. "Careful." Charles warns them. "Why?" Arthur asked him. "Those are Guido Martelli's men." Charles said as he nods to the men. "Who?" John asked. "He, err...he used to work for Angelo Bronte." Charles warns and Arthur sighs. "I've only been here an hour." John grumbles.

"Hey." A voice said and the three men turn to see the four men standing side by side each other. "Come over here." One of the men asked. "What now?" Charles asked in a whisper. "Well...you two go left, I'll go right...on three." Arthur said and they nod. "Three!" Arthur said, loudly, and Charles and John go left and Arthur goes right and ducks behind the boxes and they began to fire at the men, killing them.

"There's a wagon up there. I'll get my bag." Charles said as he runs to grab his bag and John goes to the wagon. Arthur whistles for his horse, which gallops over to him. Arthur mounts his horse as Charles throws his bag in the wagon then he and John get on the wagon.

"Where was Uncle gonna meeting us?" Charles asked as they take off. "Over the bridge going out of town. West." John said and they take off. "You see any law?" Charles asked the other two. "Nope." Arthur said. "Not yet." John said as they scan around the street. "Keep your eye out. Saint Denis ain't short on police." Charles said. "I remember that....only too well." Arthur said. "Me too." John said.

"We just can't get caught. Martelli has the chief in his pocket." Charles warns. "Of course he does." Arthur mutters. "If they take us in, we won't get out of the interview room." Charles said. "I don't want to get into a shootout over this. That's the man I don't want to be anymore." John said. "Me too." Arthur said. "I don't want that either." Charles said as they get closer to the bridge.

"I think we're clear." Charles said. "If I ever wanna go back, remind me that I hate Saint Denis." John said as they come up to the bridge and see Uncle. "John. Charles. Arthur. You boys been off getting up to no good?" Uncle asked them. "Kind of...been getting shot at." John said. "Well, they...they were very good shots. C'mon, let's head for home." Uncle said as they head off.

"Yeah, I better get home. (Y/n)'s probably worried about me." Arthur said then he looks over at Charles. "You going with them?" He asked. "As much as I want to, you have children and...I would feel guilty if these bastards caught up to me and harmed your family." Charles said and Arthur nods. "Well, if anything, you're welcome to visit." Arthur said and Charles nods. "Thank you." He said

"It was good to see you, brother." John said. "You too, John. You too." Arthur said. "If you need help with your new home, send me a letter and I'll come." Arthur said as he pulls out his journal, wrote down his mail address and hands it to John. "All right...thanks, Arthur." John said, as he accepts the paper, and Arthur waves at the men then goes a different direction than John, Uncle and Charles leave.

"John, Uncle and Charles are alive?" (Y/n) said to Arthur. That night, (y/n) and Arthur were sitting in their bedroom, the children were all asleep in their own bed. Well except for the new two month old child, Michael, as (y/n) was holding him in her arms. She was rocking him to sleep, in her arms, as her and Arthur talked while he was sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Yeah..." Arthur said and (y/n) let's out a small chuckle and shakes her head. "I'm surprised Uncle is still around. Figured someone would get tired of his crap and shot him." She said and Arthur laughs. "He'll outlive us all." Arthur jokes and she laughs as well.

"I wonder if anybody else from the gang are alive?" (Y/n) said and Arthur shrugs. "Charles said Strauss died." He said and (y/n) turns to look at him. "Really?" She asked, surprised, and Arthur nods. "How?" She asked. "Pinkertons got him. Tried to get information about the gang from him. He didn't say anything." He explained and (y/n)'s eyes widen. "My Lord...." she whispers as she sits next to him.

"You know...sometimes I think about the others. About...Mary-Beth, Karen, Tilly, Pearson, Trelawny, Sadie...." she said and Arthur frowns then nods. "I just hope they're all okay." She said. "I hope so too." He said then he looks over at Michael, who was sleeping in his mother's arms.

"Here, let me take him. I'll put him to bed." Arthur said and (y/n) hands their newborn son to him and Arthur gets up and puts the baby in the crib that was against the wall of their bedroom. He sets the baby down then strokes Michael's forehead with his thumb as the baby grunts a bit then starts to turn.
Arthur chuckles then he and (y/n) started to get ready for bed.

Days passed and Arthur and the kids were out on the barn as they were doing the chores when (y/n) checked the mail and saw a letter for Arthur. She goes over to the barn and sees Arthur was showing Alastair and Eleanor how to ride a horse.

"Now just keep your balance..." Arthur was telling them as the horse was trotted around. "Just try to stay calm...the trick is to not let the horse know you are scared." Arthur instructs as the kids were giggle a bit. Annebeth was watching and smiling at this.

"Look, mommy! Look at us!" Eleanor said as (y/n) comes up to Arthur. "Yes, I see that. You'll be a regular ol' cowboy." (Y/n) jokes and she walks up to Arthur. "Letter here for you." She said as she hands the letter to him. He takes it, opens it and reads the letter.

"It's from John. He said he's wanting my help to build his home in Beecher's Hope." Arthur said and (y/n) furrows her brow. "That old piece of desert outside of Blackwater?" (Y/n) asked and Arthur nods. "So...if you don't mind...." Arthur said and (y/n) smirks. "Go ahead. John's needing help. Just be careful, okay?" She said and Arthur nods then gives her a kiss.

"Where you going, daddy?" Eleanor asked Arthur, sometime later, as Arthur starts to saddle up one of the horses. "Gonna go help an old friend. I'll be back." Arthur said and the kids look up at him. Arthur goes and hugs Eleanor and Alastair then kissed the top of their heads then he hugs Annebeth and kisses the top of her head.

"You kids be good for you momma while I'm gone." Arthur tells them. "Yes, sir." The kids said and Arthur walks up to (y/n), who was holding Michael. Arthur kisses the top of Michael's head then looks over at (y/n) and they give a long, loving kiss to each other.

"Come back in one piece." She said and Arthur nods. "Of course. Maybe once we get his home all built, I can come back and take you all over there." He said and (y/n) smiles. "That would be nice. Would love to see them again." (Y/n) said and Arthur kisses her again then he mounts his horse, waves at the kids and takes off.

Arthur made it to Beecher's Hope and saw that Charles and John had some of the base of the house built. He comes in and does his best to help them after they greeted him. Days turned into weeks as Arthur, John and Charles built the home while Uncle just shouted orders or went up against a tree to sleep.

Charles did also warn Arthur that were a vicious and dangerous group nearby called the Skinner Brothers, which started to make Arthur question himself to bring his family here. But as they continued on building the house, they didn't see neither hide or hair of the Skinner Brothers.

John also told Arthur that he had been doing some bounty hunting with Sadie Alder. She had become one of the best bounty hunters in these parts and Arthur couldn't help but smile at this.

Arthur wrote back to (y/n) and informed her of the progress that they have done and also sent a letter to Oliver to let him know what was going on. Oliver was understanding and told him take as much time as he needs and just let him know when he was coming back.

Eventually, they got the house built and then it was time for the barn to be built. They got that all built and the men backed up send looked at the work they did. "Build a house, a barn. Look at this place. I can't believe it." John said, smiling, then he turns to Arthur, Charles and Uncle. "Thank you. Thank you, all three of ya." He said and he gives them a hand shake.

"This calls for a drink." Uncle said as he pulls out some bottles of beer and the men accept the drinks and just kept drinking and drinking as they celebrated at what they had accomplished.

"John, Arthur, get out here. Uncle's gone." Charles called out, the next day, as John and Arthur wake up from their drunk stupor. "He's fine." Arthur yells out, groggy. "Yeah, Let me sleep." John said. "Get out here now." Charles yells, urgently, and Arthur and John get up from the floor of the main room of John's new home.

"That fat man will be fine." John said as he and Arthur walk out on the porch while Charles kneels down on the dirt, looking at some track marks. "No, he won't. Skinner's." Charles said and John and Arthur look at him, surprised. "You think?" Arthur asked him. "Of course. My guess is they went that way, but my other guess is they know we're coming after him." Charles said and John sighs.

"What choice do we have?" John asked. "None. We just got to keep our wits about us. We know this is a trap. I tracked them to the road. We'll pick up the trail there." Charles said and they all mount their horses and head down the road.

"Shit. It's like we forgot about them. We should've been ready." John grumbles. "It happened. There's nothing we can do except try and get him back." Charles assures him. "We let our guards down for one damn moment." Arthur growls but then Charles raises a hand.

"Hush. Up here. You see that?" he asked as he points to a trail of blood in the ground. "Blood. Dear Lord." John mutters, devastated. "They've gone up towards Tall Trees. Come on." Charles said and they head into the woods.

"Boys, look, we should agree on something. If it's really bad, this might not be about saving him." Charles said. "What the hell are you talking about?" Arthur asked him. "If it's really bad, it might be better to stop the pain." Charles tried to say, delicately. "Jesus, you mean to...?" John started to ask but Charles talks over him.

"I mean, you can live a week without a scalp, but it ain't a good week. A gut wound, you can live a month, but it's horrible. What they've done to him, might have killed him already, with only hurt to come." He said and Arthur sighs. "We get him and we see, okay?" He said. "We'll make it his call if we can. But it may be we have to decide, okay?" Charles said. "Okay." Arthur and John said and they make their way into the woods.

"Okay. Leave the horses in the trees there." Arthur said and they dismount their horses and make their way deeper into the forest. "Up there to the right, two Skinner's." Charles points out to the right as they see two men walking. "Lookouts?" John asked. "Probably." Charles said and John and Arthur pull out their bow and arrows and shoot the two men.

"They were waiting for us. Uncle should be close." Charles said as the three men crouch down and walk on. "He better be." John growls and they walk on for a bit then Charles stops them. "Patrol to our left." He said then the patrol men started to talk.

"If they come from the ranch, they'll come this way."

"We should have burned it while they slept."

"The burning's better if they're awake for it."

"He's old and sick, he won't last long."

"Then when they come, they'll come for a corpse."

"He was talking about uncle. He's alive." John whispered to the other two, sounding a bit relieved. "Come on. They've passed. Let's go." Charles said and they continue on then Arthur heard something.

"Hold up. You hear that?" He asked as they hear someone screaming and crying while it sounded like the wheels of a wagon squeaking. "Yeah." John and Charles said then Charles sees the wagon. "Wagon, there. It's dragging someone." He said.

"Is it Uncle?" Arthur asked. "No. Some other poor bastard. Let's follow. It might lead us to the camp." Charles said and they follow the wagon until it stopped. "He's stopping." John said as Arthur pulls out his binoculars and looks through it

"What do you see?" Charles asked. "He's picking up...Poor bastards dead." Arthur said then he takes the binoculars down. "If he's walking with a body, we must be close." Charles said and John pulls out his bow and arrows and shoots the Skinner Brother.

"Okay. Let's go." Arthur said and they walk a few more feet until they see some tents and fire pits. "I think I see something. Yeah, that must be their camp." Charles said. "What do we do?" John asked and Arthur looks over to see a Boulder on their left. "Let's get up on that boulder, take a look." He said and they make their way to the boulder.

They get up to the boulder and look around then John around Uncle, who's shirt was off, and saw that he was tied up and an open fire was close to his back. "My God. We got to go get him." John said. "Careful." Charles said as they jump down from the boulder and look around for any of the Skinners.

"Where are they?" Arthur asked as he pulls out his rifle. "I don't care. Come on." John said and they go up to Uncle but then Arthur heard a twig snap and he turns just in time to see some Skinner Brothers coming out of their hiding place.

"John! Charles!" Arthur yells and he, quickly, takes aim and started to kill some of them. They all get behind some cover and all three men fired at the Brothers until they were all dead.

"Looks like we're in the clear for now." Arthur said as they stand up then go over to Uncle. "Uncle, uncle, what have they done to you?" John said as they come up to him. "John. Arthur." Uncle said, weakly, as Charles cuts him down. "You're okay, old man." John said as Arthur helps Charles. "I look okay?" Uncle asked as they get him down and they noticed his back was red and parts of back was peeling.

"No, you look awful. You'll be okay. Those bastards, we got them." John assures him as Arthur and Charles look at Uncle's back. "Looks like we got here just in time." Arthur said and Charles nods. "I'll carry him. Come on, Uncle." Charles said as he places Uncle's right arm over his shoulder and John and Arthur hear noises behind them.

"Here comes the rest of them." John yells and he and Arthur began to fire and kill the Brothers as Charles and Uncle follow behind them. "I'm feeling real weird." Uncle said, woozy. "Let's get out of these woods." Charles said and they were able to fight their way through the woods til they get to their horses.

"Oh, don't let me fall, please." Uncle pleads as Charles and Arthur help him get on Charles' horse. Once they did that, Charles got onto his horse as John and Arthur got on their own horses and they gallop out of the woods.

"We're out." Charles said, relieved. "We ain't out until we're home. Ride hard." John said. "Old man, how's the back?" Arthur asked Uncle, who just groans. "I think it looks worse than it is." Charles said. "Burns don't always heal easy." John said. "Sure, but I think this will be fine, long as it don't get infected. It's much better than I feared." Charles said.

"Hear that, old man? This could have been worse." Arthur said to Uncle. "He's pretty weak." Charles said when Uncle doesn't say anything. "Yeah, I bet. Stay with us, you old bastard." John said. "I don't feel good." Uncle groans. "Just hang in there, old timer. We're almost there." Arthur said and then they arrived back at John's house.

"Uncle, we're here." Charles said and they pull their horses up next to the house and they all dismount their horses then Arthur and Charles help Uncle off. "Let's get you down. Easy. we got you, we got you." Charles said and they got him down off of the horse.

"Let's get him comfortable." Arthur said. "Thank you, boys." Uncle said. "Don't mention it." Arthur said. "I thought I was dead." Uncle said. "Don't get all sentimental now, old man. Then I'll really think you're dying." Arthur said as Charles takes Uncle inside. "Easy, easy." Charles tells Uncle as they make their way inside.

Few minutes later, Charles comes out on the porch as Arthur and John were standing there, looking out at the fields. "He'll be fine." Charles said. "You think they'll be back?" John asked Charles, referring to the Skinner Brothers. "Maybe, but I doubt it. We must have killed most of them. And this is your land." Charles tells John.

"Was it theirs once?" Arthur asked him. "I don't think so. Met a fellow that said the Skinner's rode down about two years ago. They're just angry men on a rampage. And we got in their way." Charles explained. "Sort of like we used to be." John said, smiling, and Charles and Arthur chuckle. "Yeah, exactly like we used to be." Charles laughs.

"Maybe we should take up torture?" John said and Arthur let's out a loud laugh. "We got Uncle singing instead of torture." Arthur said and the other two laugh then Charles places a hand on John's shoulder. "We're going to be safe here, John. You, your family, you'll all be safe." He said. "I hope so. I really do. If she ever comes back." John said and Arthur nods.

"I'll stick around for a bit longer, make sure those bastards don't come back. Then I'll head back home." Arthur said and they nod. "Thank you, Arthur. For everything." John said to him. "Don't mention it." Arthur said, nodding.
