Magicians for Sport
A few days had passed since the coach robbery happened. Since then, (y/n) basically stayed at the camp and helped out with the chores with the girls or went into Rhodes to get some groceries. Arthur went out and did the jobs with Hosea and Sean, which was them burning the Grays tobacco plants, and John and Javier, which was to steal the Braithwaites prized horses for lots of money...which turned out to not be as much as they thought.
Then a day after all that, Arthur went with Bill, Karen and Lenny back to Valentine to rob the bank there, which did go well besides the law chasing after them. But, luckily, they lost them.
After that, Arthur had to make a trip to the Downes' home. Strauss informed him that Thomas Downes had died and his wife would pay off the rest of the debt, so after the bank robbery Arthur made his way to their home.
Once he made it to the Downes' home, he could see that they were packing up a wagon. Mrs Downes looks over and glares at Arthur as he comes up to her. "My husband’s not cold in the ground, and you’ve come back here. I nearly paid off what was owed." she said to him, grimly. "Your husband knew the rules when he took that money, Now, I’m real sorry about the way things turned out…but he had a choice." Arthur said and Mrs Downes scoffs at this as Archie hands her a suitcase to put in the wagon.
"Ain’t my fault about the way the world is." Arthur said and Mrs Downes turns to him. "He didn’t have a choice. He was good, and he did good. There wasn’t no choice in that. And you’ve as good as killed him yourself…and don’t kid yourself. You had a choice." she said. "You speak as if killing were something I cared about." said Arthur.
"You ever wonder about eternity? You should." Mrs Downes said to him. "I hope it’s hot and terrible, Mrs. Downes… otherwise I’ll feel I’ve been sold a false bill of goods. Now, please…get me that money." Arthur said, feeling a bit annoyed about this.
Mrs Downes scoffs again and makes her way into their home while Archie walks out carrying a bag, glaring at Arthur with every step he took. "Either you’ve got a lazy eye or a lack of respect. Which is it, boy?" Arthur asked him as Archie loads up the bag. "I ain’t got no lazy eye…nor respect for the likes of you." Archie spat at him as he turns and glares at Arthur, defiantly.
Arthur gives a small huff of a laugh as he takes a few steps closer to Archie. "Well, maybe when your mother’s finished mourning your father…I’ll keep her in black…on your behalf. You think on that, boy." Arthur threatens. "Well maybe you shall, sir…and maybe other events will transpire." Archie said, still standing tall against Arthur. "You best stick to them books…because mark my words on this…vengeance is an idiot’s game." Arthur warns as Mrs Downes returns with the money.
"Ah, Mrs. Downes…thank you for your punctuality. It’s next to godliness isn’t it?" Arthur asked as she hands him the money and he begins to count it. "That’s cleanliness." she said. "I’ll have to take your word on that. Good day." Arthur said and with that he left them and headed back.
That was just yesterday, today Arthur was just now getting up when Dutch came up to him. "Arthur." Dutch calls out. "What now? You sweating yet, Dutch?" Arthur asked. "Of course I’m sweating. We’re in some disease-ridden, swampy, dixie-whistling shithole." Dutch said and Arthur laughs.
"I meant about what Trelawny said, about these bounty hunters?" Arthur asked him. "Not sweating as such, but maybe a little gentle perspiration. Until we know more, ain’t too much harm wasting good, liquor on sweating." Dutch said.
"So?" Arthur asked. "So, I think you should pay Mr. Trelawny a visit and find out exactly what he knows and who he spoke to. Take Charles with you and Miss (y/n)...she's been proving herself lately." Dutch said then he chuckles a bit. "Oh, the sight of the three of you would make a statue sing out its secrets." He said. "Okay." Arthur said and he goes to find Charles and (y/n), who were luckily standing next to each other talking and drinking some coffee.
"Charles, (y/n), I need you two for some business in town. Come on." Arthur said, making the two look over at him. "Okay." they said and (y/n) kneels down to Annebeth, who was standing next to her, and says. "I've got to go. You be good and stay within the camp." Annebeth nods and (y/n) goes to follow the men to their horses.
"So…where are we going?" (y/n) asked as they mount their horses. "Dutch wants us to have a…talk, with Trelawny, about these bounty hunters who are coming for us. Hoping he can tell us who they are, or where they’re coming from." Arthur said as they leave the camp. "Okay. And you’re deputies now?" Charles asked and Arthur smirks. "Something like that. Soon as we laid eyes on that fool of a sheriff who runs that town, I knew Dutch was going to play him like a fiddle." he said.
"On the run from one bunch of lawmen, working for another. Interesting." Charles said. "Hiding in plain sight, Dutch calls it." Arthur laughs. "So, spirits seem good…in the new camp, I mean." Charles points out. "We got some space between us and that mess now. Ain’t seen no more Pinkertons for a while. There’s these bounty hunters of course, but…Dutch don’t seem too worried about it." Arthur said.
"Can’t believe they’re still coming after us. We didn’t even get away with the money!" (Y/n) said. "Yeah, but they don’t know that." said Arthur. "Of course…Trelawny. I’ve only met him a couple of times, but he’s…he’s a strange one." Charles said. "Fear not, he’s just a cockroach in fancy britches. But he gets into nooks and crannies the rest of us can’t. We just need to find him before he scurries off again." Arthur said and then they arrive at a small camp.
"Reckon it’s that one with the fire outside." Arthur said but then they stop and dismounted. "Let’s take a look." Charles said and they go into one if the buildings and noticed that it looked raided. "Shit." Arthur grumbles. "Someone got here first." said Charles as he and (y/n) enter the building. "So it seems." Arthur mutters as they looked around.
"By the looks of things, it wasn’t a social call." Charles said as (y/n) looks around the mess. "This food’s barely touched…looks like he left in a hurry. Bed’s not made, so he must have been here recently." She calls out to them as they enter and look around.
"Found anything?" Charles asked the two and Arthur notices a familiar red liquid on the ground. "There’s some blood here…that ain’t good." Arthur said. "Big struggle. Pretty recently, I’d say. I guess, maybe, uh…twelve hours ago?" Charles said as he surveys the house.
"But no body?" (Y/n) asked. "Not yet." Charles said then he walks towards the back of the house and towards the back door. "Hmm, look. Tracks." He calls out and Arthur and (y/n) follow him out and see the tracks on the ground.
"Come on…They went down the path here…" Charles said and the three of them call out their horses and they get on their horses and follow the tracks. "Not the kind of place I’d expect to see Trelawny staying in." Arthur said as he gestures to the house behind them as they head off. "No?" Charles and (y/n) said. "Normally scams himself into the best hotel in town." Arthur said.
"You know…when me and Javier went down with Trelawny to get Sean, after the bar fight? I swear he talked the whole way and never actually said a damn thing." Charles said and Arthur scoffs out a laugh. "I thought you knew that’s his special talent. They could be twenty miles away by now." Arthur said. "We can track them that far if we need to. Depends on how much you want to find them." Charles suggested. "Yeah…I still ain’t sure about that." said Arthur as they come up to the crossroads.
"They must’a crossed over the tracks. These tracks lead into the forest here." Charles said and they continued on towards the forest. As they got closer, they see three men in a camp, just sitting there and resting by the fire.
"Hey, look. Let’s go see what those fellers have to say." Arthur said and they walk up to the camp and dismount their horses. "Excuse me." Arthur called out to them. "Yeah?" The first man asked. "Have you seen…we’re, uh…we’re looking for our friend." Arthur said. "I don’t think he’s here…" the second guy said and Arthur lets out a laugh of disbelief.
"Nah…you seen a strange sort of feller…sort of formal?" Arthur asked them. "Strange, sure. Formal, no." the third man said while (y/n) looks down and noticed a cane. "Well, well, well...what'd we have here?" She asked as she picks it up and holds it towards the men, Charles comes up next to her and looks at the cane. "He uses a cane, looks a lot like this one." Charles said and (y/n) noticed that the men were looking a bit scared but also a bit annoyed.
Arthur turns to the men and glares at them. "Alright you boys…Where the hell is he?" He asked them, in a growl, as they stand up and get ready. "You lot better get outta here!" The third man threatened. "Come here!" Arthur growled and he attacks one, Charles attacks the other and (y/n) was left with the third man.
Arthur and Charles took out their men with ease, after a few punches to the face, but (y/n) was having a bit of difficulty. The man goes to punch her but she ducks and gets behind him and jump on his back, wrapping her arms around his neck.
She tried to hold on but the man was able to get her off of his back and slams her to the ground. He starts raising his fist to go punch her down but then Charles comes up and knocks the man down. "You stay there." he ordered as he places a foot on the man's chest and Arthur helps (y/n) up.
"You okay?" He asked and she nods. Then Arthur sets his eyes on the man and walks over to him, then grabs his neck. "Where’s Trelawny?" he asked, angrily. "I don’t know anything." The man pleaded and Arthur punches him. "Tell me where he is!" he demanded. "You go to hell!" the man spat.
Arthur then goes to punch him a few times. "You better tell me now, you son of a bitch!" he growls. "Okay…okay, for Christ’s sake." the man said before he swallows. "They took him to a cabin, over by the cornfields." He replied. "Which cornfields?" Arthur asked. "Left…down the path there…by Braithwaite Manor." The man said and Arthur lets the man go.
"Don’t let me see you again, you hear me?" He threatens. "You got lucky there, my friend." Charles said to the man as he gets up and runs off. "C’mon, let’s go." Arthur said and they go over to their horses.
"Follow me, I think there’s way around so we don’t have to go through the Braithwaite’s place." Charles said as they mount up. "Yes, I’ve spent enough time there. After you, then." Arthur said and Charles takes the lead before he looks over at (y/n).
"You okay?" He asked her. "I’m good." she said as she rubs the back of her neck then looks over at Arthur. "What do you think they want with Trelawny?" she asked him and he shrugs. "Could be any one of a hundred things. Just depends if any of them involve us." he said.
"You think he’ll talk?" Charles asked. "Of course he’ll talk. He’d sell his own sister to save a train fare! He don’t know how not to talk…he don’t know where we’re holed up, though. Least, I don’t think he does…" Arthur replied. "I don’t know why Dutch still deals with him. Always disappearing for weeks on end." said Charles. "He’s got his uses and, well…loyalty matters to Dutch." Arthur said.
"Of course, but is Trelawny loyal?" Charles asked. "Kind of…I guess Trelawny ain’t exactly disloyal…just got a big mouth. Don’t worry. If he talked, I’ll find out what he said. Nothing’s ever straightforward where Trelawny’s involved…I’ve learned that much." Arthur explains. "I mean, how much time have we wasted getting this fool out of trouble?" Charles asked. "He somehow manages to be both lucky and unlucky at the same time." Arthur said and (y/n) scoffs.
"That’s one way of looking at it." She said. "But he always finds some way to pay us back. Just when we think about cutting him loose, he brings us something big. I guess that’s his special talent…keeping fish on the line." he said as they continue on until they come up to a cabin near the cornfields.
"That must be it." He said as they approach it and see two men take a beaten up Trelawny out of it. "Get out there, come on boy." One of the men said as the trio dismount their horses. "The thing is…after that shack, this will be remembered like as good time." the second man said just as Arthur, Charles and (y/n) walk up and aim their guns at them.
"Put the man down, gentlemen." Arthur threatened and the men run off towards the fields, leaving Trelawny. "That the lot of them?" Arthur asked Trelawny. "I…I think so." Trelawny said. "So you’re alive." Arthur said as he cuts the rope off of Trelawny's wrists and legs. "Allegedly." said Trelawny. "Well, don’t worry. They won’t be for much longer." Arthur grumbles.
"Go get them, Arthur. I'll keep an eye on Trelawny." (Y/n) said. Arthur nods and he and Charles run. "Go deal with them, my brothers!" Trelawny calls out after them as Arthur and Charles head off into the fields.
"Here, let me help you, Trelawny." (Y/n) said as she kneels down and places his arm around her shoulder. "Oh, you...you are too kind, Miss (l/n)." Trelawny said, sounding a bit exhausted. "I know, I know....I'm too nice for my own good." (Y/n) said with a chuckle as she helped carry him over to the chair that was by the door.
"There you go." She said, setting him down. "Thank you." Trelawny said, appreciatively, as they hear gunshots from a distance. "Seems like the boys have their hands full." Trelawny said and (y/n) pulls out a cloth from her satchel. She then reaches out to him and cleans the blood off of him.
She cleaned up the blood and looked over his bruised up face. "They did a number on you." (Y/n) said when the gunshots ceased. "Mr. Trelawny, where are you?" Arthur’s voice called out. "Over here, dear boy!" Trelawny said. "I'm still here with him, Arthur." (Y/n) said as she could see him and Charles coming.
"Put your feet up, why don’t you?" Arthur asked as he gets up to them. "You okay?" He asked Trelawny once they come up. "Never finer." Trelawny said and Charles helps him up. "So, who was they?" Arthur asked him. "They were bounty hunters…attached to Cole Stoudemire." Trelawny replied. "Okay." Arthur said. "They weren’t looking for me…per se." Trelawny said.
"What you tell ’em?" Arthur asked as Trelawny stands up and (y/n) helps him up. "Not much. I…told them I was an intellectual…come down here from Oregon…looking for a job at the university. Course, they didn’t believe me. Seems you stirred up quite a hornet’s nest in Blackwater." Trelawny replied. "So I keep hearing." Arthur said.
"It might be best if I stay with you gentlemen for a while. Can’t go back to that caravan now." Trelawny said. "Alright, Charles, you take Trelawny back to camp…" Arthur said then he looks over at (y/n) as she gives him a look. "We’ll catch up with you later." He said as he looks back at Charles. "Okay." Charles said and he and Trelawny mount his horse.
"We are?" (Y/n) asked. "Yeah...there's something we need to do first." He said then he turns to Charles. "Might not be back til tomorrow." Arthur said and Charles nods. "Alright." He said then (y/n) raises a hand out to him. "Just ask Abigail to watch over Annebeth for me, please." She said and Charles nods. "Will do." He said and he heads off.
(Y/n) looks over at Arthur with a raised eyebrow. "So what's this, oh so important thing you're wanting to do with me?" She asked him. "Well, if I told ya, it wouldn't be a surprise." Arthur said with a small grin and (y/n) gives him a look of suspicion. "Really?" She said and Arthur chuckles a bit and she rolls her eyes. "Well, lead the way, Mr Morgan." She said and he goes and mounts his horse while (y/n) gets on her own horse.
Later, the sun had already set and Arthur had already set up a tent and made a bonfire. Him and (y/n) were sitting by the fire and cooking a rabbit that (y/n) had caught earlier. They cooked the rabbit and Arthur cuts up the cooked meat and splits it between him and her.
"Thank you." She said, smiling, as she takes the meat and the two began to eat. "You know...if you just wanted to go camping with me, you could've just asked." She said with a chuckle. "I know but.." Arthur stops then sighs. "I don't know...I just wanted to surprise you..." he said and she smiles before she leans up and kiss his cheek.
"I'm just joking with you." She said and she finishes her rabbit meat then stares into the flames. "I hate leaving Annebeth but...this is nice to get out and away from everyone." (Y/n) said and Arthur nods. "Same here." He said and he takes the last bite out his cooked meat while (y/n) looks up at the stars then smirks. "Whatcha thinking?" Arthur asked her.
"Just remembering when I was young, my father told me that the stars were the spirits of people who have passed and that they were watching over us." She said as she smiles, thinking of memory. "Seems a bit silly now that I think about it." She said and Arthur smiles at her for a moment before it falters then asked. "I wanted to ask...You think your parents would approve you and Annebeth being with us?"
(Y/n) smirks and said. "Well, my mother wouldn't approve but my father...he would like the idea being out in the country but...not so sure about the robbing and killing people." Arthur chuckles a bit at this.
"But...I know if he had survived, he would've given you boys some sort've reward for helping out with those O'Driscoll's." (Y/n) said and Arthur nudges her. "What about if I asked him for his daughter?" He asked then (y/n) looks at him, scoffs, then playfully shoves him which made him laugh.
"You're such an asshole." She laughs as Arthur laughs, loudly, at this. "I'm only messing with you." Arthur said, still chuckling a bit. "Mmm hmm, I somehow doubt that." (Y/n) said. "I could see you throwing me over shoulder, like a freshly dead deer you caught, and then carrying me out."
"You make me sound like some wild man." said Arthur. (Y/n) smirks to herself then looks back over to him. "What if I want that? A wild man?" She asked in a soft, sultry voice, which made Arthur raise an eyebrow at her. "And just what do you mean by that, Miss (l/n)?" He asked, feigning ignorance, as he scoots closer to her.
(Y/n)'s heart was beating fast in her chest, from both nervousness and excitement. She had never done something like this in a long time, not even with Oliver. She had never been this forward to a man before. But something about this interaction with Arthur was different. It felt right. Her smile grows and she scoots closer to him to where there was no space between them.
"I think you know, Mr Morgan." She said and they lean into each other until their lips meet. The kiss becomes romantic and sensual as their lips mold against each other, like two pieces of a puzzle that fit together.
Arthur goes and places his left hand behind her head, to hold her in place, as they continue to kiss. (Y/n) breaks the kiss as she catches her breath and looks into Arthur’s eyes as he opens them. She cups his face in her hands and kissed him again.
Arthur removes his hand off from the back of his head and wraps both of his arms around her waist. Then he pulls her up to his lap and they end up in the familiar position they got into a few days ago. But this time, there was no kids to interrupt them.
The kiss got more heated until Arthur pulls his lips away from hers and kissed her cheek then jaw and neck. (Y/n) closes her eyes and tilts her head back then let's out a gasp when she felt Arthur’s rough, calloused hands run up under her shirt, touching her exposed skin.
As Arthur continues his attack on her neck, (y/n) slowly opens her eyes and removes his hat off of his head and runs her fingers through his hair and tugs on it a little, making Arthur let out a small growl.
"You sure about this?" Arthur asked her, in a gruff whisper, before he pulls back to look at her. "Cause if we continue, I'm not gonna stop." He said and she looks him over before staring into his blue eyes then placed her right hand on his cheek. "Then don't stop." She whispers before she leans in and kiss him.
He kisses her back and holds her close to him just as she rocked her hips against his. He lets out a groan and pulls back from the kiss, catches his breath then gives her a look, full of command, and it sent a shiver down (y/n)'s spine.
"Get in the tent." He ordered and she gives him a coy smile before she slowly gets up then helps him up to his feet. He picks up his hat as she takes his hand and guides him towards the tent and both of them enter, Arthur closes the flaps as (y/n) sits down on the makeshift cot he made.
Once the flaps were closed, Arthur sets his hat aside, turns to her, gets down on his knees and leans towards her to capture her lips in his. They continue the make-out session and (y/n) starts to tug on his suspenders. He removes them and soon after the couple began to removing each other's clothing until they were completely bare to one another as they kept making out.
Arthur takes a moment and admires her. “You’re as beautiful as the stars in the sky. I could never imagine a day without thinking about you, darling.” he admits and she smiles at him softly, reaching up her hand to caress his cheek. “I can’t imagine that either, honey. You’ve always made me and Annabeth feel safe, and I am forever grateful for that.” She tells him.
His expression softened at her confession, though he can’t help but ask as he turns his head away, feeling insecure. “Even if I don’t look like the ideal man you want me to be?” he asked. He already had his heart broken by Mary because of this reason, that he wasn't the ideal man for her especially in the eyes of her father.
(Y/n) gently turns his head so he can face her straight in the eyes, he saw how tender and loving her eyes are, not an ounce of malice or disgust behind it. “I’m in love with the man you are. Nothing can change that.” she said and Arthur's eyes widen in shock at this as he felt his heart racing.
Grasping the nape of his neck, (y/n) pulls him towards her, bringing his lips onto hers then pulls him over her as their kiss intensifies from their love. It was the night they will cherish forever, as if it’ll be the last time they’ll see each other before heading off to war the next day. Blissful moans and grunts of pleasure were heard in the night as the two lovers made love, uniting their bodies as one. Their mix of emotions were let out that night.
Lust
Excitement
Happiness
And most of all, Love.
Nothing else mattered except their intimate love. To them, it’ll be a night to remember.
