Chapter 2 - My Name Is...
"Scarlet, papa is getting a new job."
"A new job? Really!?"
"Yes! He's going to do architecture, just like he's always wanted."
"I'm so happy! When does he start?"
********
"Let's see. Jimenez, Jimenez...Ah! Scarlet Jimenez! You have a ten o'clock appointment, correct?" I nodded at the busty brunette behind the welcome desk and returned the sweet smile she threw my way.
It's nice to be around smiley people when you're nervous. I think it puts one at ease.
Come on. Nobody said I wasn't nervous!
"Yes. That's right."
"Ok then." She reached under the desk and pulled out a shiny, black card. "Just take this and show it to the elevator operator over there. He'll take you to the CEOs floor and after you're done with the interview, just post the card through the flap situated to your right."
The woman glanced up to the clock behind me, then focused back on me. "You're five minutes early but you can go right up. Take the elevator on the far right, in the corner."
"Thank you, miss..."
"Oh. You can just call me Ruby." She giggled with a wave of her manicured hand.
"Well thank you, Ruby."
"No problem and good luck. Love those shoes by the way." Ruby winked with a smirk.
It seems she likes something a little more than my shoes but hey. She's human.
"Thanks."
I walked away the desk and over to the elevator on the far right with a smile on my face.
It's amazing how a compliment can boost your confidence and brighten your day.
"Hi." I smiled at the man by the elevator then handed him my card I'd gotten from Ruby.
He took the card, looked at it then nodded before putting his hand out toward the elevator doors indicating that I should step inside.
"Right this way ma'am." He said in a deep voice.
He handed back the card as I walked into the elevator. The elevator was quite roomy with black and red stripes and gold railings lining the walls. I stood silently behind the operator as he punched in a code on the key pad inside of the elevator as the doors slid shut. I couldn't help but get a little nervous despite my confidence boost earlier. I really needed this job.
The doors to the elevator slid open once we'd reached the top of the building with no disturbances on the way.
Private elevator.
I walked out looking around in awe as I took in the beautiful artwork hung everywhere in the hallway. A brief thank you to the operator and I was all alone. Glued to the spot, I stared at the large double doors straight ahead of me then hesitantly took a tiny step forward causing the click of my heels to echo around the vacant hallway.
"Breathe Scarlet. A confident employee is what they are buying. Confidence is your product. Sell. Sell. Sell."
With a brief, silent prayer and one more deep breath I straightened my posture and smiled my most professional smile before knocking three times on the door. They slowly open on their own making me jump a little.
Probably remote controlled.
When I stepped inside, the first thing I saw was a large black desk and the back of a rather large leather swivel chair.
"Umm Hello?" I called shyly walking further into the office.
Spotless floor to ceiling windows made up the majority of the back wall. There was a beautiful view of the busy city below. Storage within the room must have been hidden magically as there were next to no items lying about. Not even neatly on a shelf. On the left of the room where the windows curved, there sat a sleek, black glass conference table with black cocoon, swivel seats all around it. On the left was a black wall that held a large built in screen that almost went unnoticed by me. The shape of the building and the office, plus my own knowledge of building structure led me to believe that there had to be a door hidden somewhere leading to a hidden room. A bathroom or a closet maybe.
By the looks of this office, I'm looking at top dollar pay checks here. Not that I hadn't been a good girl and done my research already.
"Hello-"
"Good morning, Miss Jimenez." A soft male voice said from the leather chair ahead of me.
The chair turned and I was greeted with the smiling face of a man. My potential future boss.
"As you probably already know, I'm the CEO of RBH." He stood from his chair and walked around his desk toward me with a soft smile. "My name is Michael. Michael Jackson." He held out his hand to me but I was frozen in place.
My mouth was shut tight and dry. My confident front crumbled, disappearing with the wind in a matter of seconds.
He's...
