~Part 2~

Morning rolled around and Evan blinked open his eyes, squinting against the light of the rising sun. "Ah... shit," he groaned, rubbing his forehead as he realized what had happened. He had fallen asleep while he was supposed to be watching over the strangers that currently occupied their apartment. Looking over, he saw that Jon, Craig and Tyler were all still asleep. Standing up, he quietly made his way to the bathroom. The toilet didn't work, but they had a bucket, toilet paper and a window so it was good enough. As he was walking, his foot caught on a backpack that was thrown haphazardly across the floor. He stumble but caught himself, making a lot of noise in the process.

A light shuffling and a groggy groan caught his attention and he sighed. He had definitely woken someone up. "Hmg, hey..." Craig's raspy voice came from behind Evan and he looked over at the now awake man. "Did you do this?" He asked tiredly, motioning to a blanket that covered his body.

"Uhm, no, but...." Evan looked from the blanket to Tyler's sleeping form and let out a chuckle, "I know who did." He laughed before disappearing into the bathroom.

Craig looked down at the grey blanket in his lap and then up at Tyler, who had his back to him. He couldn't help, but let a little smile creep onto his lips. Maybe this malicious person did have a soul. He stood up, his knees creaking with sleep as he did so. Taking the blanket by the corners, he gingerly lied it back over Tyler. Tyler let out a grumble and his eyes slowly slid open. With a jolt, he sprung into action, dizzy adrenaline filling his mind. He tackled Craig down to the floor with a clatter, straddling him as a way to keep him from moving. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!" He exclaimed and Craig nearly pissed himself from the surprise attack and threatening tone of voice.

"I-I was just returning your banket...." Craig trailed off as he looked up into Tyler's steely blue eyes, fear reflecting in his own cloudy grey ones.

"God dammit..." Tyler murmured, standing up off of the started male. "Okay," He almost apologized, but stopped himself and let out a huff, running a hand through his short hair. "Get up, I have a job for you to do." He said, his tone stern.

Craig did as he was told and hastily got to his feet, straightening his disheveled shirt. "W-what is it?" He questioned, watching Tyler closely as he put on boots and a hat.

"We're gonna get you out of here, and fucking fast." Tyler stated, pulling his gun from his belt loop and holding it in the air with a smile. He then grabbed the bat that belonged to Jon and forcefully put it in Craig's hand. "If you turn this on me, I won't hesitate to shoot you."

Craig gave a nod and followed Tyler as he lead them out of the apartment room and back into the dark hall that they had come from. "What exactly are we doing again?" Craig questioned softly.

Without looking over his shoulder, Tyler gave an answer. "We're killing those fuckers outside and clearing a path for you to escape so you can finally leave here."

Craig chewed the inside of his cheek. "Why do you want us gone so badly...?" He asked quietly, looking at the bat in his hands.

There was a moment of silence before Tyler answered, "More mouths to feed..."

Craig scoffed slightly at that. It was a good reason, but he couldn't help but feel like there was more to it than that. He bit his tongue and kept quiet. Soon, they reached a heavy metal door, much like the one that Craig and Jon had entered the building through before. "Okay," Tyler started, looking back at Craig as he put his hand on the door handle, "stay close to me and you should be fine." He could tell that Craig was nervous, but he felt nothing other than adrenaline surging through his veins. "Got it?"

Craig nodded and gripped tightly onto the bat as Tyler pushed open the door. The two slipped out onto the empty street and looked around, seeing nothing but wrecked cars and distant billows of smoke. "Where did they go?" Craig cautiously glanced between buildings, an uneasy feeling hanging heavy over him.

"Hold on, wait here." Tyler demanded and started walking away, disappearing around the corner of a building. There was a loud silence before shouting echoed throughout the street. Seconds later, Tyler came sprinting around the corner. Behind him was a massive hoard of roamers. He was waving and yelling at Craig to start running. He didn't need to be told twice. He turned and ran down the barren street as fast as he could, the loud sound of thundering feet trailing behind him. A few gunshots broke the air and he glanced over his shoulder to see Tyler laughing as several of the dead tumbled to the ground, tripping up the ones that followed after it. Tyler looked ahead to Craig. "Turn left up at the gray brick building and take that ladder to the roof!" Craig didn't hesitate to follow his instructions, taking a skidding turn into a narrow alley beside the grey brick building. Sure enough, there was a fire escape. Craig was about to climb the hanging metal ladder when he stopped himself and looked to the entrance of the alley. There was nothing. With a hesitant motion, he reached out and grabbed onto the first rung. With a little jump, he grabbed the second one and was on his way. He effortlessly reached the first platform and waited for Tyler to appear. Just as he thought that maybe Tyler hadn't made it, his looming figure ran around the corner and lined himself up at the base of the ladder. Following close behind him was the sweltering horde of the undead. Tyler grabbed onto the ladder and started climbing.

An ominous screech filled the air.

With a final click, the ladder snapped out of place and fell to the ground with a clatter. Tyler stumbled back onto the concrete with a stifled yelp. "Oh, fuck!" he exclaimed as he noticed the sheer proximity of the roamers. "Hurry, pull me up!" Tyler pushed off the wall with one foot and jumped up, reaching out to Craig. Craig leaned down and clasped his hands around Tyler's wrist, letting out a grunt as he was nearly dragged down as well.

There was a moment of hesitation. A thought crossed his mind. He could drop Tyler and run, but the thought quickly faded. These people were no longer threatening to kill Jon and him and it wouldn't look too good if he came back without Tyler. "What the hell are you doing? Pull me up!" Tyler exclaimed, kicking a few of the dead away as they started to grab at his feet and ankles, clawing at his shoes and pant legs. With a grunt of struggling effort, Craig pulled Tyler up as mush as he could. Tyler swung his leg up onto the platform and climbed to safety. He panted slightly, looking down at the horde that filled the space below. "God damn..." he breathed, running a hand over his head.

Craig bit his lips slightly, "Listen-"

He was cut off as Tyler reached out and gripped the collar of his shirt, yanking him forward slightly. "What the fuck was that?" His steely eyes glared daggers into Craig's softer grey ones.

"I-I'm sorry I didn't mean anything by it..." He trailed, face getting heated from fear and embarrassment.

There was a moment of silence as Tyler stared hard at Craig's face, looking for any sign of deceit in his features. "I really fucking hate you." He muttered and pulled Craig closer, smashing their lips together in a heated and angry kiss.

"Hmp!" Craig let out a muffled yelp of surprise, placing his hands on Tyler's chest. He pulled away and instantly looked down at the metal platform beneath him, cheeks turning a bright red. "What was that....?" He asked hesitantly.

Tyler shrugged and got to his feet. "Payback," he stated, "for nearly dropping me to my death." With those simple words, he started up the stairs to the next platform, leaving Craig to sit in bewilderment.
