Chapter One: The Girl with Crimson Red Hair
Chapter One: The Girl with Crimson Red Hair
The ground was painted like a battlefield, covered in the enemies blood. Bodies laid limp everywhere, the smell of death was overwhelming, and there seemed to be no sign of life until movement came from underneath the dead. A little girl with long crimson red and matching eyes crawled out from underneath the dead. There was nothing left of what she once knew. The trees that were once in full bloom earlier that day were now reduced to ashes, her home that once stood so tall was now a pile of rubble, and the family that took her in were now dead.
What happened to this place is unknown to the girl. It all happened so fast and without warning. She has no memory of what happened up until everything caught on fire. She looked up to see the sky was covered in a blanket of black smoke. The sun and the blue sky were completely blocked out.
"Where am I supposed to go now? What do I do now that I'm alone?"
The cold wind nipped at the poor girls feet and cheeks. With nothing but the sounds of cracking embers echoing through the silence of the dead village. She wandered around the place she called home until she couldn't take the pain in her feet anymore. They were burned to almost nothing and blood started to seep from them.
"I should've stayed buried underneath the dead and died as well. There's nothing for me here anymore. What good am I to anyone?"
A sudden snap from a chard stick startled her. When she looked up, to her surprise there stood a tall man with long white hair and he was wearing clog shoes. His appearance was like nothing she had ever seen before. She seemed breath taken but yet hesitant to go anywhere near him. As the strange man came closer she slowly distanced herself away from him., fighting through the pain in her feet.
There was a sudden pop as a house nearby started to become unstable and started to collapse. She didn't know what to do. Frozen in fear, thinking is this my time to die now, she didn't have time to have the debate with herself. For by the time she collected herself the strange man had scooped her up in his arms out of the hands of danger.
"That was a close one. Are you alright?" He looked down at the small girl, only to see how badly burned her feet really were and to feel the shacking of her small body.
"Warm...you're so warm..." The girl mumbled, her body shivering from the bitter cold.
Clinging to her saver for dear life to steal his body heat, she tried to tuck in her black charred feet into herself, but the pain of being burned was too much to bear. Wrapping the girl up in his arms, the strange man carefully wrapped a cloth around her stinging feet to ease the pain and hide them from the bitter cold wind.
"What's your name little one?" The man asked.
Her name was something she detested. She didn't think it fit her at all, Kimi. It was the name the family who was forced to raise her gave her. There was nothing really wrong with the name, she just didn't like it. The entire village hated her for a reason she didn't know or understand, and she doesn't know what happened to her real family. She was always alone, and she thinks it was because on the strange pentagram on her back and a dragon birthmark on her left arm. Not wanting to keep the name she didn't like she simply looked up at him and said. "I don't have one."
"That's no good, a pretty face like you needs a name." He thought about it for a moment. Thinking of all the names he could give her. "How about Hisana?"
"Hisana? Why Hisana?" She looked up at him, curious of his reasoning of name choices.
"Yes, is that alright? Hisana means Scarlet and it's a perfect fit for a young girl with beautiful long scarlet red hair. What clan are you from? "
"I'm from the Amarante clan and yes, I do like me new name. My name is now Hisana Amarante, A Scarlet Flower that never fades."
She now had a new name. A beautiful name that made her blush each time she said it in her head. Hisana's eyes started to fill up with tears which made them burn from the smoke that poured into the sky.
"What about you mister, what's your name?" Hisana looked up through her tears at the one who gave her a new name.
"I'm Jiraiya the Toad Sage." Jiraiya said in a flamboyant way.
Hisana lightly laughed at Jiraiya's introduction. "Jiraiya, I have no place to go. What do I do now? Where am I supposed to go now that my home has burned to the ground?"
"Don't you worry about that. I now of a place where you can stay."
Jiraiya took Hisana to the Hidden Leaf Village to get medical care for her skeleton like body and her charred feet. Hisana was scared to stay in a place that she didn't know, surrounded by people who were complete strangers to her.
"Jiraiya, I don't want to be here! Why can't I go home with you and get better?"
"Hisana. These people will help you get better a lot faster than I can alone. I promise that I'll come visit you every day when I can. All you need to do is stay here and get better enough for you to come home with me. Can you do that?"
Hisana pouted at Jiraiya's words and stuck out her lower lip. With a few minutes of staring at each other Hisana gave a slight node and put her lower lip back where it should be.
"That a girl. Now, let these nice doctors take care of your feet and other injuries you may have. I have to go and meet with the leader of our village, the Hokage. He'll probably want to meet you too once you're all better. Be good alright."
Hisana slightly nodded again and allowed the doctors to start looking at her injuries, especially her badly burnt feet. As Jiraiya was about to leave he was quickly stopped the nurse that was about to go into Hisana's room. With a beautiful woman in front of him Jiraiya would usually be a pervert and start flirting, but his mind wasn't on that. He was more worried about Hisana.
"Please tell me if anything happens while I'm away. Getting her to come here to the hospital was a challenge and it seems she doesn't trust many people."
"Don't worry Master Jiraiya. We'll take good care of Hisana. We are good at what we do after all." The nurse gave Jiraiya a reassuring smile before continuing on her way into Hisana's room.
Before completely leaving to meet with the Third Hokage, Jiraiya looked into the small hospital room one last time. He was worried about Hisana and how she would really react if he wasn't there with her. Since finding her among the dead and the burning buildings, the young girl wanted to always stay at Jiraiya's side. On their way to the Hidden Leaf, the two would stop in small towns to rest and gather more supplies. Hisana didn't want to be left alone.
"She'll be alright. Yeah, she'll be alright." That's what Jiraiya kept telling himself to calm his mind and to give off a positive emotion for Hisana. He made his way to the Hokage office where his own Sensei, Hiruzen Sarutobi, would often be.
When Jiraiya reached the office of his Sensei he stood there for a moment thinking about what he was going to say. One can't just simply bring in an outsider into the village, but he also couldn't just leave Hisana there to die. Taking a deep breath Jiraiya finally knocked on the door.
"Sensei, I'm back!" Jiraiya called as he opened the door.
"Jiraiya. It took you longer than originally expected. What happened?" Hiruzen asked without looking up from his pile of files.
"Well, I came across a burned down village. I went to see what happened, and... well..."
"What is it Jiraiya?"
"I found someone. A young girl who said she had no name, so I gave her one, Hisana. She says she from the Amarante Clan, a clan I never heard of, but I couldn't just leave her there. So, I brought her back with me. She's in the hospital right now being treated for her injuries. Her feet were also badly burnt."
The Third said nothing once Jiraiya was done explaining his tardiness, this time looking up from his files. The look in his eyes were unwavering as always as he stood from his seat.
"In other words, you brought a complete stranger into the village without informing me before hand."
"Yes Sensei, but there was a--" Jiraiya was suddenly cutoff by Hiruzen with a stern glare that suddenly turned soft.
"It's alright Jiraiya. Doing something like this sounds like something you would do. When the girl is healed I would like to speak with her. She may know things that could be valuable to us."
"Understood Sensei." Jiraiya bowed slightly and left the Hokage office. Jiraiya wasn't the only one who was worried about Hisana. Hiruzen knew that word would get around to the elders and those who held high ranking in the Land of Fire. They would see her as a threat to the village.
Back at the hospital the doctors and nurses were about to get ready and take a look at Hisana's feet, but there was a problem. They were so badly burnt that by the time Jiraiya got Hisana to the Hidden Leaf, her feet had bled through the cloth Jiraiya had wrapped around her feet. Which caused it too sick to Hisana's feet, removing them would cause her great pain.
"Hisana dear, because your feet are so badly burned the warps that Master Jiraiya wrapped around your feet are stuck. Just removing them will be too painful. We're going to have you take a little nape, so you don't feel any pain, alright?" One of the nurses gently explained to Hisana what they would have to do to treat her feet.
Hisana didn't like this idea. She would rather have Jiraiya with her if this was the only option they had to help her feet.
"If that's the only way it can be done then I'll wait for Jiraiya to come back. Until then, no one's touching my feet. Go away!"
"Hisana, Master Jiraiya wouldn't want you to be in pain. He would want you to get better as soon as possible so you can get out of here and go home with him. Will you please let us do this for you and Master Jiraiya?"
Hisana looked hesitantly at the nurse and then to her badly burnt feet. Thinking of what Jiraiya might say if he came back and saw that her feet wouldn't treated filled her mind. She didn't want to see a disappointed look on Jiraiya's face. She gave a small huff and nodded her head yes.
"Thank you Hisana, I promise that everything will be alright, and we'll make your feet as good as new."
The doctors made the preparations to put Hisana under for the procedure on her feet when there was a sudden commotion coming from the lobby. Hisana wondered what was going on but the look on the nurse's face showed that she wasn't surprised.
"That girl, always causing trouble for everyone here. I'll be right back Hisana and then we'll take care of your feet."
The nurse left in a hurry to help the other nurses and doctors with the problem that was going on in the lobby. This made Hisana wonder even more about what was going on. A few minutes after the nurse left Hisana's room, the door slowly started to open. A girl with white hair with black tips tied up in a small ponytail and what seemed like to have a tail and some sort of animal ears sitting on top of her head came sneaking into Hisana's room.
"He won't think to look for me in here. Playing hide and seek with big brother is always so much fun. He's never been able to find me." The strange girl turned to see Hisana sitting in her bed, staring at the intruder that entered her room. When the girl saw Hisana she was surprised at first but then became curious.
"Who are you? I've never seen you in the village before? Where'd you come from?"
"Where I come from is none of your business, and its common courtesy to introduce yourself before asking someone else for their name." Hisana's sudden comment surprised the girl, but she just simply smiled and what Hisana thought was a tail, happened to be just that, swayed back and forth behind her happily.
"My name is Amaterasu Ōkami, but people call my Ama. Now that I've introduced myself it's time that you tell me your name."
Hisana was still hesitant about Ama. She seemed like she wasn't a normal person. But there was also some sort of warm feeling to her as well.
"My name... my name is Hisana, Hisana Amarante."
"Hisana huh? That's a really pretty name. I think my name is too long and that's why people call me Ama. Anyway, you're not from here, are you? Why are you here in the Hidden Leaf, where did you came from and why are you in the hospital?"
Hisana was suddenly bombarded by several of Ama's questions. Some questions she didn't feel like answering at the time. As she was about to answer some of Ama's questions the door to her room suddenly opened again. Standing in the doorway of her room was an older boy that had the same hair color as Ama and also had a long flowing tail and animal ears on top of his head.
"Ama."
"Heh there, big brother. You found me pretty fast."
"That's because I followed your sent. Why do you insist on causing trouble for everyone once again? I've told you several times that you can't just come here and run amuck without consequences. You're disturbing patients in a place where they come to rest and get better. Let's go, the Third Hokage wants to have a talk with us about something."
"If you want me to go home and talk with the Third... you have to catch me first."
Right in front of Hiana's eyes, Ama transformed into some young looking white wolf. That would explain the ears and tail. After completely transforming, Ama jumped out of Hisana's window and out onto the roof tops of Konoha. Ama's brother then let out a heavy sigh as he buried his head in his hands.
"I'm very sorry about my sister. I hope she didn't bother you too much." And just like Ama, her brother transformed into a white wolf and followed his sister out the window.
"What on earth?" Hisana thought to herself out loud.
"I see you met Ama Ōkami and her older brother Asa." Hisana turned to see her nurse standing in her door with a few villas in her hands.
"Who are those two?" Hisana asked.
"Well... I can't really explain who they are. You would have to ask them, because no here in the Hidden Leaf except for the higher ups know who they are. They're a mystery to us since they came to stay here eight years ago. Now, let's get you prepped for surgery. I want you to start counting down, back words from 100." The nurse placed an IV in Hisana's arm, injected it with a pain killer and placed a breathing mask over her mouth put her to sleep.
"100, 99, 98... 97....96...." As Hisana started to count back from 100 her eyes started to get heavy until she finally went to sleep. She knew that when she wakes up Jiraiya would be right beside her.
The hospital took great care of Hisana and her operation was a complete success. Jiraiya came and visited her every day. And it wasn't just him, Ama would often come visit her when she would be hiding from her brother, Asa. After her surgery, Hisana was bedridden until her feet were healed enough for her to go home with Jiraiya.
With great excitement after her feet were healed, all Hisana wanted to do was stay by Jiraiya's side. To Hisana, Jiraiya was her hero, even with his tendencies of peeping on women for his so called "Research". The entire village quickly caught wind of the new girl that Jiraiya brought to the village and some were a bit upset.
There was no information about the village that Hisana had once came from, but Jiraiya didn't care. He grew more and more attached to Hisana with each passing day andhe knew she had the potential to become a great ninja with proper training, and that's what came to the decision to apply her to enter the Ninja Academy.
