"Mabel, lets go already!"

Rolling my eyes I continued to pluck the rosemary as I hummed, ignoring my sisters pleading as she tried to drag me back into the safety of the walls we had built around us.

"Just wait a minute Susanna, I'm almost done"

"I can't believe you dragged me out here! Tonight's the night of the full moon - or did you forget that?!"

Rolling my eyes at my younger sisters concerns for some little beast ripping us apart has grown old, "Stop being a worry wart - the wolf would be heading  to the alter, at midnight. The sun is just beginning to set"

"All people need to be inside of the village walls when the sun is down! You're so lucky your name hasn't been picked out for the sacrifice to the wolf" looking up through my brown wave of hair I saw the petite blonde stare at me angrily with her pale hands on her hips.

Standing I gave her a grin, "We both know if that happened the wolf wouldnt' stand a chance"

"It's a werewolf Mabel! You're a human! He'll rip you to shreds!"

"Now what have I said about genderizing the wolf? He could be a she for all we knew"

"Then why do they keep giving up girls as the sacrifice?!"

"Because the village is filled with cowardly men and women who don't want to face their troubles head on, instead they'd gladly give other lives for their own. Now, come on Suzy - mum is going to worry if I don't get you home"

"Just me?" she gives me a skeptical look as I linked my arm with hers.

"She would think that I would be at Allison's house"

"Still, I would worry for you"

"Aww, look at little Susanna! Worrying for her big sister!" I gave her a cheeky grin as she rolled her eyes and dragged me forward, to the walls that trapped us for our entire lives - well, unless you can't get out like I can.

"Still can't believe you found a way out of the village"

 "That's just how I work sugar" she scowls at me over her shoulder as she continues to drag me towards the giant stone wall that surrounded the village I live in, or trapped us in a circle of stone - with a wolf that seemed to be able to climb stone walls, leaving the wall basically useless and to trap us like waiting prey in thirty feet of stone on all sides.

"Come on Mabel, we don't have much time!" 

She drags me through the gate they had open - for visitors and, well, me since I kept finding a way out of the wall and they couldn't leave a possible 'sacrifice' stay out of the wall as a second meal for the beast. That'd mean there's a less person to take the fall for everyone else.

We walked past the alter that was metres in front of the only gate that lets us in and out of the village - it makes me sick really, how the adults sacrifice fourteen to eighteen year old girls to the beast. And to my distaste, my sister just turned fourteen, I'm grateful she wasn't called up as a sacrifice a day after she turns fourteen.

I would have started a war if that happened, and well, I'm seventeen, almost eighteen and I am dreading the age of eighteen. Because that's when I have to marry, and when I say have to - I mean you have to, it's law in our village so we'd reproduce and get more sacrifices for the beast.

Sick and twisted, just how the leader of the village is, including his family that made that law and the sacrificing teenage girls one also - and so many more disgusting laws they have made for this beast and to keep everyone in the village inside, 'where we belong'.

We hurried towards my house, ready for the night disturbed my howls and screams of the sacrifices.
