An heavy memory

The trees that Eledhwenn observed since few minutes seemed alive. The wind thrilled the foliages and raised up the hair of the elve slowly. She was in the summit of the hillock dotted with forget-me-nots and lily of the valleys. In front of her expended a field of shurbs. She squated and looked at many cobwebs. It had a fantomatic aspect and the dew was filed on her fine yarns who constituted it. It was beautiful. Maybe too beautiful.

She remembered the fight against the Blacks Elves many decades ago.

The battle raged that day. An army of about 3000 elves had attacked them in order to seize the Hydrophane, also called the heart of the forest. Without this sacred stone, the trees couldn't survive. And if they died, that would sign the end of the Hallowed Guardians. Without them, the dark forces would rise from the bowels of the earth and the world would be doomed to destruction. Her people had fought with body and soul despite their numerical inferiority. The sounds of hooves still echoed in Eledhwenn's head and the putrid smell of blood that had invaded the kingdom of Elloris still made her nauseous. She lost her mother this day and had became the new Lymseïa.

The land in wich she sat now, was devasted. The barks of trees were burned, the flowers had been trampled and a wall of thorns was created. Her ennemies had seized the Hydrophane and they knew dark hours.

She remembered the eyes of the leader of the Black Elves. It was terrifying. She never saw so much cruelty. He had advanced by a dominant step. He was dressed in shining and glossy armor, and he wore a helmet that only uncovered part of his face. His sword was in the right hand and he had a proud face. On his armor, a blood-red cape drifted behind him, increasing the imposant effect that emanated from his great stature.

Eledhwenn observed few instants the blue sky and inspired the fresh air sprinkled with invigorating scents. But she recalled that beautiful and angry nature when both armies launched the offensive. The sky had darkened, the wind had risen so strong that one might have thought a hurricane. The beautiful green foliages were suddenly much duller and the quivering of the leaves echoed in the armor of the combatants so powerful. The river that flowed nearby was no longer calm. The water would run at full speed in the riverbed splashing once in a while the small teeming life that was desperately trying to make its way to shelter. The cascade smashed on the rocks to the rhythm of the waves that collided, sounding like cymbals and stabbing the ears of those who were close.

The fight lasted for hours but was less and less noisy as the bodies piled up and came to defile the grass. The dead littered the ground, the putrid smell of blood filled the air and the ground had been devastated. A few flames that had escaped from the falling rain were still crackling, giving a macabre appearance to the scene.

The elve drove out of her head all these sinister images of her mind. She kept a certain bitterness of this dark time but the Sythaeryn had ended up dying and she had been able to make peace with this people although hardly with the one who had taken her head.

Eledhwenn pressed her hands in the grass for so painful it was to think about it. Fortunatly the Hydrophane had been restituted and the nature became savage and fierce again. The Kingdom of Elloris had found his magnificence passed and the peace reigned again.

The young woman startled when she suddenly heard the crack of a twig behind her. Her heart stopped beating for a moment, but she was immediately reassured when she saw a little girl coming out of the brush. She had long black hair that fell down to her ankles. Her small pointed ears waved to the rhythm of the breeze. And her annoyed air underlined her impatience. Eledhwenn got up and came to join her. She took his hand and let herself be escorted to the village.

One day soon, the girl should start her apprenticeship, although Eledhwenn feared this moment. She knew that after a long period of peace, the chao would take over and she didn't want that day to come. She didn't want her daughter to go through what she went through.
