Chapter 4
A/N: Haha, this is really bad. I'm not used to cursing, but it kind of had to be done.
Though he's taking a walk in the chilly air, the temperatures aren't nearly as cold as they have been. It's nice and refreshingly cool outside, but the humidity is making Silver's static-y hair cling to his skin uncomfortably. Thankfully, though, the weather has permitted that he does not have to dress heavily and can wear just his usual black turtleneck. Silver flinches when something comes in contact with his skin.
A smiling Gold looks at him cheekily. "I was just trying to hold your hand, silly. You're being awfully quiet, though, huh?" In response, Silver squirms around, letting out a low grunt in lieu of words. Though Silver tries to be slick as he makes his next move, Gold notices right away that Silver had shyly extended his hand towards him. Gold takes hold of it greedily, then brings up to his lips to plant a small kiss on the top of Silver's hand. Gold giggles at the bright red expression he gets in return. "You're too cute."
Silver huffs, looking away, though he makes no effort to take his hand back. They walk in silence, each listening into the conversations of others as they take in the scenery. The end of February is near, and with it, the winter season. However, the wind still holds a bit of its cold nip, just enough to provide a cool breeze. The city's park is hardly much of a park at all, but the few naked trees planted in between breaks in the brick have small little green leaves beginning to sprout at the base of the branches. Despite their puny size, the bright, spring-like color is highly noticeable amongst the gray buildings and cold sky.
Silver jumps when Gold uses his free hand to poke him in the side. Gold tilts his head towards a black metal bench. "Let's go sit down." The two make their way over to the vacant seating area, large enough just for the two of them. Upon closer inspection, it seems that the black paint had begun to peel from the bench. Though, neither Silver nor Gold pay any mind to it as they relish in the cool touch of the metal holding them up.
Silver shuffles around awkwardly, looking as if he wants to say something, but has nothing to say. He focuses his agitated gray eyes on some randomly fixed point in the distance.
Gold decides to be the conversation starter yet again. He grabs Silver's attention with a small "Um." Gold's face grows a little pink as he shuffles around in the pockets of his jacket. He pulls out a folded up piece of paper. Ink writing had bled through it. "Uh, I'm turning twenty one soon, so I'm throwing a bit of a party. Since, uh, I'm now of legal age, I wanted to try going to a, y'know, bar for the first time. So, how 'bout it?"
Silver feels a painfully pleasant thump in his chest as his heart skips a beat and flutters all over the place. Though he does his usual best to hide it, Silver feels just a bit excited, despite the fact that there was probably going to be a lot of people. "Yes! Uh, yes, I'd love to go."
Gold's blush becomes more noticeable as a smile lights up his face in such a beautifully genuine manner. "Great!" He hands the paper to Silver. "The details are all on there. I can't wait to see you there!" Gold giggles in childish excitement, leaning in to give Silver a kiss on his cheek. Gold delights in the way the soft skin heats up with his touch.
Silver near barges into Green's place. Green is cleaning up the counters as usual, and Red is tucked away in the back room leading into their home. Well, apartment might be a more proper word for its size. Silver sits down in front of Green with unusual energy, crumpled slip of folded paper in hand, nearly falling back out of the chair in his rush. It had become a habit of his to visit Green after every one of his dates. Green can't be more happy for his well recovering friend. Green leans over the counter with his arms crossed, looking fondly at Silver. "So, what happened today, smiley?"
Silver hurriedly explains every detail of his and Gold's date in the park, trying to suppress a very evident smile. He eventually gets to what he calls the best part. "...And then he invited me to this party." Silver feigns disinterest, playing with the cup of water Green had at one point brought over.
"Really now?" Green replies, happy to see his friend happy.
Silver nods. "And it's going to be at a bar, because it's his twenty first birthday, and-"
Green smiles drops immediately, cutting Silver off with a dark tone. "A bar? Are you hearing yourself, Silver?"
Silver tries playing it cool, fighting against the bit of worry in his own voice. "Well, this is a bar-"
"Silver, it's not the same! You know it's not the same, because I'm here to look after your sorry ass!" Green vents.
Silver swallows thickly. "I never asked you to. Besides, I've gone my fair share of this therapy and recovery groups. I'll be fine."
"You never asked me to? Are you kidding me? What a hell of a good friend you've been. Maybe you shouldn't have stumbled in here with your drunk self in the first place, maybe then I wouldn't have had to look after you."
Silver always got scared when Green cursed, and Green knows that. Despite the slight fear, Silver's cheeks get red with anger. "I can handle myself now! I can resist a stupid drink!"
"Silver," Green hisses, "If you know what's best for you, you won't go. You're a damn alcoholic, you cannot resist."
"It's my life, I'll do what I want!" he forces out.
Green growls in pure rage and frustration. "And you know what? It's my bar, so you can get the hell out." His low voice sends shivers up Silver's spine.
Silver clenches his jaws tight, hands forming fists at his side. He stands up abruptly. He fishes around in his pocket for his copy of the key to the bar and nearly throws it right at Green's head. Green hisses. "Fine!" Silver shouts, having nothing better to say as he stomps out of the room. After all, in the back of his mind, he knows Green is right.
