Chapter 3

A/N: Sorry, this is kind of rushed?  I hope you like it.  I had fun writing it.

Silver grunts in extreme agitation. He shuffles around awkwardly in the tight black trench coat Green had told him to wear, along with the equally choking red turtleneck grabbing at his throat. Silver could have just not listened to Green at all, but it's not as if Silver has a better sense of fashion, if any at all. Additionally, this whole thing was Green's idea, so why not just let him take over the whole operation? That's how it all happened. Now, thanks to Green, Silver is meeting with someone he's never met for a date.

He lets out a shaky breath, watching as it clouds up in the air, and huffing at the fact that his breath had to be so shaky. It's not as if Silver's all that nervous, anyway. Again, this is someone he's never met. This date is nothing more than another one of Green's stupid ideas. At least Green isn't too angry with him anymore. Green had been angrier than usual. That's what Silver thinks about as he watches his boot clad feet as they walk all over the gray brick ground. Silver looks up in surprise when someone shouts his name.

Standing before him, though still a fair distance away, is the person Silver has been expecting. His hair is a shiny black, eyes an exuberant honey color, and a messy outfit that's just all over the place, along with a messenger bag hung sloppily over his back. Even despite the hat holding back most of his hair, black bangs show through. Silver rolls his eyes at this silly decision. His face turns a bit more pink than what just the cold is capable of doing. Why is this person being so...so standout-ish? Silver walks a bit faster, trying to get to this person before they cause more commotion.

When they are by each other, the other wraps his arm around Silver's shoulder with a cheeky grin. "Silver, right? I'm Gold! It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person!"

Silver tries to shrug Gold's arm from off of his shoulder, but to no avail. "Don't say things like finally, it's not as if we've known each other for so long," Silver points out in slight annoyance and embarrassment. "C'mon, already. We're supposed to be going to a coffee shop, right? I'm freezing out here."

Gold smiles, looking down at Silver happily. Silver is a whole inch or two smaller than him, despite Silver's slight age advantage. Not as if that matters, though, as Gold is already feeling pleased with his decision to meet up with Silver.  "No need to rush.  We have all day together, remember?"  Humming happily, Gold leads Silver towards a small little cafe.

Soon enough, the two are sitting across from each other in a small booth, Silver looking away as he awkwardly sips his black tea, and Gold grinning childishly as he nearly downs his whole hot chocolate.  "So..." Silver starts hesitantly.  "What do you do for money?"

Gold laughs awkwardly.  He begs for this not to go the same way as his last date.  "Um, I actually got a lot from my parents, so it's helped me a lot for now."  Silver just nods, looking off to the side.  "A-And how about you?"

Silver is caught slightly off guard.  "Me?  Ah, well, I don't exactly have a job right now, so...Oh, but, uh, I have this one acquaintance that kind of helps me out, and I guess I kind of owe a lot to him, but, ah, you see, well-"

"It's okay!" Gold interrupts.  He clears his throat inelegantly.  "I understand.  I'm kind of in a similar situation, so...I get it."
Silver huffs, not knowing what to say.  "W-Whatever.  Moving on.  Next question.  Um, do you have any pets?"

A grin lights up Gold's face.  "Well, uh..."  Gold digs around in his backpack sheepishly, earning a quizzical look from Silver as he looks around cautiously before pulling something out.  Gold smiles nervously as he reveals his long, red lighter.  "This is Exbo.  He's my travel companion."

Silver snickers, forcing back a smirk.  "Wow, you really are lonely."

"Oi!"  Gold lightly punches Silver in the shoulder from across the table, earning a hiss from the redhead.  Gold laughs.  "Okay, so how about you?  Do you have any pets?"

Silver shrugs, looking off to the side.  "No, but if I did, it wouldn't be a lighter."

Gold crosses his arms over his chest with a pout.  "That was uncalled for."

"Fine," Silver states simply.  "If I could have a pet, I'd want a cat."

Gold blinks in surprise.  "Really?  Why a cat?  I've always been more of a dog person."

Silver sticks his tongue out distastefully.  "Dogs are fetid idiots with brains so small that they may as well be nonexistent."

Just like that, the two go on back and forth, with Silver only realizing the amount of time gone by when he picks up his tea for only the second time, being taken aback by its coolness on his lips.  Silver pulls his phone from out of his pocket, the time popping up as if to tell him that nearly two hours have gone by.  He blinks in disbelief.  He hadn't thought this whole date thing would go this well.  Gold sees Silver checking the time, so he curiously looks at the watch on his wrist.  "Oh, wow!  It got late quick!"

Silver laughs nervously.  "Um, yeah.  Actually, I have a...thing.  A meeting.  I have a meeting I need to go to soon," he struggles to explain hurriedly.

Gold pouts.  "Aw, that's a shame.  I was having fun hanging out with you."

Silver's cheeks become dusted over with a light pink.  "Yeah, whatever.  Me, too, I guess.  I'll talk to you later, alright?"  Silver stands up from his seat, grabbing his wallet and fishing around for some money.  He hands it to Gold to pay for his drink, but Gold refuses with an innocent looking smile.  Silver grumbles as he puts the money back in his wallet, instead grabbing a slip of paper and forcing it in Gold's direction.  "Here's my phone number.  Text me or something, okay?"  Silver turns away, adding one more thing before he goes.  "And, uh, thank you."

Gold's face lights up like a decorative tree.  This date really had gone well.  He sits up in his seat, waving Silver off.  "Bye bye!"

As soon as Gold is out of his line of sight, Silver can't help but to let a smile escape his thin, pale lips as he walks through the city, watching as a few neon lights turn on as the sun prepares to go down.  He smiles as he walks through the bustling crowds, he smiles even as he enters the building of his anti-alcoholism support group.  Silver almost hates how happy he is.  His mind seems to drift off as the group begins their meeting, mindlessly repeats the three steps to getting over alcoholism, just as they do every time.  Step one: recognize you addiction.  Step two: find support.  Step three: realize that you are powerless against your addiction.

After the meeting finishes up as usual, Silver heads over to Green's place.  He's been to the recovery group quite a couple of times, and since then, Green has let Silver back in.  He won't let him touch a drink though.  Silver stands outside of the doors to his friend's bar, still in a daze.  The bright lettering above the doors is some sort of name that plays on just how gay its owners are.  Green claims that it's supposed to be a gay bar, but it's not as if it matters, as it's not open to the public, anyway.  Silver shakes his head, swearing that Green must have rubbed off on him somehow.

He enters the building with the key tucked safely in his wallet, watching as Green wipes the counters down while he talks with Red.  Green spots Silver and waves cheerily, a big, cocky grin plastered on his face.  Red takes one look in his direction before deciding to disappear in the back room.  As Silver takes a seat, Green starts interviewing him excitedly.  "So, how was it?  How did your date go?"

Silver huffs, rolling his eyes as he crosses his arms.  "Yeah, it went...pretty well."

Green widens his eyes in sarcastic surprise.  "Well?  You're saying it went pretty well?"  Green looks around energetically, as if looking at invisible people.  "You hear that?  Silver says he might've actually thought well of something!"  Green laughs obnoxiously at his own joke.

     "Hey, stop that!" Silver scolds.

Green wipes a tear from his eyes that had been produced by all of the laughing.  "Yeah, whatever, Mom.  So, is he a keeper?"

Silver forces the corners of his lips to not curve up into a smile.  "Yeah, I guess he's a keeper."
