When You Can't Walk Away
(Um, feels warning. Beware of those. They'll get ya if you're paying attention.)
Domino-
Seeing Jana stride across the court was a surprise. Having not seen the man for an entire week while he was in isolation, he didn't expected to see him allowed out again so soon. Jana looked as predatory as always, yet the way he held himself and the bandages clearly visible on his bare chest and right knuckles made Domino eager to tear them away to reveal the healing injuries they're hiding.
Such beautiful wounds. Sad that they're hidden behind those worthless bandages.
Instead of heading toward the basketball courts like he'd planned, Domino turned and began walking in Jana's direction. Tommy, the guy's personal pimply escort saw Domino immediately and began shaking his head, yet he refused to do as the guard wanted.
Stepping onto the tennis court, Domino grabbed the spare racket Tommy had brought and lifted it with a smirk, nodding to Jana. "Ready to sweat?" He asked as he walked inside the lines, getting into a starting position.
He watched silently as Jana and Tommy spoke, their voices too quiet to be heard. Tommy did most of the talking anyway, while Jana mainly glared between him and Domino. When he finally walked over and retrieved the second racket hanging on the fence, then took his place in front of the net after grabbing a ball, Domino knew he was going to get a game.
Jana's first serve took Domino by surprise... And nearly hit him right between the legs. He managed to lift his leg up just in time for it to block the ball from dropping him. Still, the hit hurt. Jana hadn't held back an ounce of power. Shrugging off the hit, Domino retrieved the ball and served, sending as much of his own strength as he could along with it.
He didn't think Jana would be fast enough to catch the ball before it went out of bounds but the man managed to do it, just barely snagging it with his racket to send it back over the net. Domino returned it to the opposite side of the court, forcing Jana to run in order to try and catch it again. He would have likely managed it if he hadn't tripped on a shoelace and crashed to the hard asphalt.
Domino was contemplating whether to go over and see if he was alright when Jana suddenly jumped back to his feet, then turned to face him. Blood ran in rivulets from his nose, making Domino's heart thrum faster as he licked his lips. He didn't think the simple gesture would cause a reaction, but Jana actually narrowed his eyes and quickly swiped his arm across his mouth, smearing the blood. His entire body seemed to shiver from the muscles tensing beneath the surface.
Shit. I don't want to start another fight already but it looks like he might just snap again. Domino thought warily as he did his best to stand completely still and not meet the man's burning gaze. For having such dark eyes, they suddenly seemed to shine quite brightly under the afternoon sun. It also sucked to have to visibly submit to the man, but at least they didn't have much attention. He wasn't a fool, either. He'd seen Jana attack twice and could tell that he was on the edge of deciding whether to try again or not.
When Jana's body finally relaxed a small amount, Domino let out the breath he had been holding and looked over to Tommy, who hurried to throw him a new ball. The man also looked like he had been worried something was about to happen.
Grinning, Domino caught the ball and hurried to serve it so that they could push past the previous tension. Instead of hitting the ball back, Jana caught it with little effort and then knelt down. Setting the ball on the asphalt, he slowly undid the shoelaces on his shoes, then removed them. Tommy jogged over when Jana straitened back up and took his shoes over to the sidelines.
Come to think of it. I don't remember ever seeing him wearing shoes.
Domino had to lunge forward to reach the ball as Jana suddenly slammed it over the net with his racket. Even without the warning, Domino returned the hit with one of his own. Finally, the game was on. Jana was clearly practiced, as he didn't miss many returns and even though the bottoms of his feet had to have been getting torn up from all the sudden movements, his attention was solely focused on the ball.
They played for at least thirty minutes, neither withholding any power. When Domino finally caught the ball and signaled that he needed to take a moment to catch his breath, Jana looked almost as if he wasn't sure what to do with himself. Domino watched the guy look over toward the spare canister of balls next to Tommy's shoe. He thought he was about to go get one and just start playing by himself when he heard someone's footsteps heading their way.
"Hey Jana, time to get your injuries cleaned up." Tommy said as he walked over to the other man and turned slightly, nodding at Emmet as he stepped inside the court with his medical bag in hand.
At first, Domino thought that Jana would be pissed that Tommy actually called the doctor out to tend to his wounds instead of just taking him to the infirmary. He knew he would be mad being patched up in front of everyone outside. The doctor's arrival had also brought new eyes to them, likely inmates who were curious about who got hurt. Jana, however, perked up like a puppy when its owner finally got home from work after a long day. He immediately dropped the racket in his hand and jogged over, a big smile on his face when Emmet returned the gesture.
"Why am I not surprised to see that you're the one who I've been called to patch up, again?" Emmet teased as he knelt and removed a few items from his bag. He paused and pressed his hand to his forehead, but quickly returned to what he was doing after a moment.
Domino figured that he'd stand up again to work, but Jana dropped into a sitting position and Emmet leaned forward onto his knees. "You did quite a number on your nose. Is it broken?" Emmet asked as he began to wipe away the dried blood.
"I don't think so." Jana replied, still clearly happy to have the other man's attention.
Really? He's gotta be hurting from that injury being cleaned, yet he seems completely content.
Figuring that they were done playing, Domino made his way over to the small group, but made sure to keep a few feet between himself and Jana. "When I'm finished with Jana, I need to see your hands, Domino."
Brows raised, Domino glanced down at his hands, about ready to tell Emmet that they were fine. Oh. Oops. His hands were bleeding in several places, likely scratched up from the few times he'd fallen trying to dive for a low ball.
"Okay." He said with a shrug before Emmet returned his attention to Jana.
"And you. I swear, every time you go outside you find a way to hurt yourself." He mused as he finished wiping off the blood from Jana's nose and mouth, then leaned closer to add a small bit of antibiotic cream to the cut just above his lip.
Domino couldn't help but purse his lips, frustrated for some reason, when Jana tilted his head slightly and leaned forward. Their lips were pressed together for only a second, if that, before Emmet scooted back. A bright blush warmed his cheeks and grew hotter when he saw Jana lick his lips, a cocky smirk on his face.
"You're adorable, Doc." Jana purred as Emmet stuffed the dirty cotton balls into his medical bag and got up. He hurried over to Domino, who realized he was scowling when the doctor looked hesitant to start treating his hands.
Forcing himself to relax, he offered his hands, palm up, to the man. Emmet quickly cleaned them, then added a small bandage to his left one, since it looked far worse than the other. "There." He said once he'd finished and packed up again.
"Alright, Jana, it's about time to head back inside. Domino, he'll be in your cell when you return. Please don't start anything again." Tommy said, making Domino roll his eyes before walking away. He had no idea why they couldn't see that him and Jana just couldn't get along well.
Shaking his head, Domino followed several other inmates into the showers and washed all the sweat from his body. He normally used the showers at the gym to eye guys he'd like to envision screwing while with David, but the prison didn't give more than two minutes to rinse off after physical activity, so there was no time. Whatever. I'll be out of here soon enough. Then I'll just go find David and screw his brains out. Not like he uses them, anyways. He thought with a smile as he toweled off, then got dressed in the change of clothes provided to him by one of the guards at the door.
The walk back to his cell was a bit unnerving. He didn't want to have to dodge another attack from Jana, though he knew that he was the one who had provoked them. It was hard not to touch the guy! He was a walking wall of toned muscle and scars! Just thinking about the latter made Domino feel himself getting hard. Before he could get too into his thoughts the guard leading him stopped, then opened the door to his cell.
Shit.
Forcing himself to keep quiet, Domino walked into the cell. He expected to see Jana lounging on his bed, but the man was nowhere to be seen. I thought he was coming back here? Domino thought as he glanced around the small cell, then shrugged and dropped onto the edge of the bed. He had been getting ready to come face to face with a tiger, yet he doubted there was even an ant in the cell. Jana had probably scared them all off... or killed them. Deciding not to waste the chance to get some actual sleep, since he'd likely be giving up the bed to Jana once he returned, Domino dropped back onto it and let his eyes close.
The strong smell of copper woke him hours later. Sitting up slowly, Domino rubbed the remaining sleep from his eyes, then looked around the cell. It was dark, so lights out had to have already happened, leaving only the emergency lights on so that guards could work. He could just barely see a figure sitting in the corner near the tiny sink by the toilet. Jana. Domino wasn't really sure what to do, but when he sniffed and could still smell the copper, he knew that something was wrong.
"Jana?" He asked quietly as he slid from the bed and very slowly walked closer.
He stopped about two feet from the man, then sat. From his new vantage point Domino could tell that Jana was moving his arm, fingers roaming over the other. Is he scratching himself? He thought, confused and for once, a little worried. Turning to look over his shoulder, he decided that his best course of action was to get someone to check on him.
"Hey guard?" He called toward the bars, hoping that someone was there to hear him.
Hearing shifting in front of him, Domino turned his attention back to Jana. The man had moved his arms and looked like he was wrapping them around himself tightly.
Okay, what the hell is going on?
"Guard! Seriously, get your ass over here!" He called, not daring to take his eyes off of Jana as the man leaned forward and began shaking. He couldn't be sure, but he had a feeling that Jana's nails were digging into his skin again, which had likely been the cause of the coppery smell, just from his arms, previously.
When another guard, not the pimpled one Domino thought would arrive, came and unlocked the cell, Domino jumped up and backed away from Jana. "There's something wrong. I smell blood and he's acting really strange... even for him." He said.
The guard grabbed his radio and called for backup, not moving closer until two other guards came in with their taisers already drawn. Domino plastered his back to the cold wall as he watched them approach Jana like he was some kind of wild animal. The man might be aggressive and reckless, but he didn't do anything by accident. Every time he'd attacked there had been an obvious trigger.
"Jana, you need to stop hurting yourself." The guard who had arrived first said as he slowly walked forward and knelt next to the inmate. Jana didn't even acknowledge him as he stared at the ground near the guard's feet.
I doubt he's even really here right now. Domino thought as he watched the guard take out his handcuffs and reach for Jana's wrist.
"Come on, Jana." The man said as he clasped one of the cuffs onto Jana's right wrist, then moved to lock it to his left. When he reached over, Jana moved his hand away. The gesture was sluggish but the guard didn't dare try to snatch it, Domino noticed. Instead, he let go of the already-cuffed wrist and slowly backed away.
When another set of footsteps sounded a moment later, Domino looked over to the open cell door and felt himself sigh with relief. Tommy. The guard walked in quickly and went right up to Jana before kneeling down and taking his left hand. He clasped the cuffs in front of Jana instead of behind him, then slowly ran his eyes over the man in the dim light that shone from outside of the cell.
"Guys, get out and shut the door." He said, surprising the other guards. They spoke between themselves quietly for a moment, then decided to do as told and stepped out. When the door creaked closed and the sound of the lock hung in the air, Tommy carefully tugged his shirt up and over his head, then pressed it against Jana's left arm and chest. Darkness spread along the cloth but if it hurt, Jana gave no indication of it. He just kept staring, barely even bothering to blink.
When Tommy actually leaned forward and wrapped his free arm around Jana's shoulders, Domino tensed. He waited for an attack, and could finally see some life flare into Jana's dark eyes, but it never came. Instead, Tommy began to whisper in Jana's ear. It was just loud enough for him to hear, but when the words met his ears, he really wished he hadn't caught them. Especially considering the way Jana started trying to slam his head back into the wall as soon as he got the information. Tommy struggled to keep him from being able to, but Domino quickly realized that he wasn't going to be able to stop Jana for long, as the hits were taking their toll on the guard's arm.
Reassured by the fact that the guy was already handcuffed, Domino ran forward and dropped to his knees, adding his muscle to Tommy's and finally managing to stop the motion by wrapping their arms around his head. He thought that Jana would try to strike out again, and he honestly wouldn't have blamed him, but when Tommy shifted and pulled him into an awkward hug, having to practically sit in Jana's lap to be able to reach, the inmate actually stilled after turning his face into Tommy's hair.
"I'm sorry, Jana. It was a brain aneurysm that made him pass out so suddenly. He was only having headaches recently and was going to get checked out after work by the other doctor when he came in for his shift..."
(Of course Evanescence-My immortal, came on right as I was writing that last part.)
