Chapter Twenty-Seven
(*) Devin
I had heard Thomas come in late. I couldn't believe he had stayed out all night. It infuriated me and I don't know why because it's not like I cared. I packed the rest of my bags, making sure to pack my orchestra dress as we were going to be having our last performance tonight. I was sad that we were going to be done, but I also didn't mind because I was ready to have my nights free to just chill. Of course, I would keep on playing here and there so that I don't lose my touch.
It was now noon, and I decided that it was time to go I wrote him a note telling him I had left, then I made my way to Lyric's house. I was happy to be seeing her as it had been a long time since I had. Ever since the wedding, she had been very busy making the home hers, finding a job, hanging out with Diego's parents.
I arrived at the house and was in for quite a shock. The siding had been changed to white, black shutters were put on every single window. The mailbox now had her new last name. There was a freshly planted pine tree in the front yard that had been decorated with Christmas lights. I parked the car and gathered all my bags then made my way to the freshly painted royal blue door. I saw that they had now put in a doorbell. I pushed it and heard it from inside and the sound of a dog barking. The door flew open
"SISSSY! Your heerrrreeee!" Lyric said as she pulled me into a hug.
"Hi Lyr. It's so good to see you! You look so good!" I gushed. Since the wedding, she had lost a few pounds and updated her wardrobe into more of a classy motherly look.
"It's good to see you too! Come on, let's get you inside." Heat rushed over my body making me chill slightly. Something black bulldozed into me. I stumbled back slightly
"Sorry about that! That's Bruno." Diego said as he came from the kitchen. I looked down at the black wolf standing in front me wagging it's tail a mile a minute.
"He's so cute! What kind of breed?"
"He's a german shepherd husky mix." Bruno snuffled my hand
"I must get one now." I said laughing. Lyric helped me bring my things to the guest room. Diego had to go into work for a little bit but would be back later. Lyric and I went into the living room and talked about life. How she was doing with fitting in with married life, what kind of a job she was looking for. She also told me that she didn't feel too well, but hoped it would pass soon. She asked me how things were going with me and Thomas, I lied and told her things were good, and that there was still no talk of marriage. We spent the day playing games, drinking pumpkin spiced coffee and watching badly scripted movies.
We baked cookies and other treats. It felt just like old times and I wished that it could have last. The treats were cooling on the racks when she felt nauseous so she went upstairs to rest. I glanced at my watch and noticed it was almost time to go. I changed into my dress and did my hair in a bun. I applied a little makeup, that's when I remembered I never told I had a concert tonight. But I'm sure she would forgive me.
"I'm leaving!" I yelled up the stairs. Lyric came slowly around the corner."
"What do you mean you're leaving?"
"Well, I have a big shindig at the theater. It's our last performance for the year."
"Oh well okay, see you in a little bit?"
"Yeah." I was sad that I had forgotten to tell her about the performance, but it was too late to buy a ticket. I got into my car and headed towards the Banquet hall. Turning down the familiar back road that had little traffic, I was hit from the side, I screamed and turned the wheel too tight hitting the curb and flipping the car onto its side. Smoke filled the air as glass penetrated my skin like tiny needles, my screams died on my lips as I blacked out from pain and shock.
