Chapter Twenty-Four
We woke up at 4:30 the next day. Diego went downstairs to start breakfast and brew some coffee. Thomas was in charge of putting the luggage in the car, and I was in charge of getting Lyric up. She always struggled waking up early.
"Wakey wakey sleepy bird." I called out opening the blinds loudly. She rolled over and stuck the pillow over her head. I plucked it from her grip. "Your going to get married tomorrow." I sing songed She quickly sat up, her hair a halo above her head and her eyes puffy from a restless sleep. I handed her a cup of coffee to entice her. She grabbed and took a sip, she handed it back and pushed her hair back.
"I'm ready!" She threw back the covers and headed to her chair where she had set out her clothes the night before. She disappeared into the bathroom. I set her cup down and made her bed, then I lugged her bags out into the hallway. Thomas was just coming up the stairs.
"She up?"
"Yep, we should be down in a few minutes." I smiled briefly at him before heading back in the room. It irked me that he could pretend to be nice when in fact that wasn't in his personality. But I mean who am I kidding, I'm pretending to still be in love with the man. How the Hell am I supposed to keep it up. I feel myself drifting farther away making it difficult to keep up the charade.
"I'm ready." Lyric said as she came out fully dressed in a maroon sweater dress, tights and white heeled boots. She wore mascara and red lipstick. We headed down stairs. Diego had made scrambled eggs, bacon and toast with jelly. We sat down and ate moderately fast. Diego's private plane was going to be taking us to Hawaii, the plane was courtesy of his grandfather who was paying for our whole trip. It was an odd feeling to be going on a trip and not paying a single dime. I felt kind of guilty.
After breakfast, we headed out to the van, then made our way to the air strip. Arriving at the air strip, we tumbled out of the van, filled with excitement. Diego's grandpas pilot greeted us with a warm smile
"Are you Diego?"
"I am sir." Diego said as he shook his head.
"It's great to meet you. Your grandfather sends his wishes."
"Thank you. Please tell my grandfather that we appreciate everything."
"I will." We carried our luggage inside the plane and put it in the storage cabinets. Then we took our seats. There were two chairs on the left and two on the right, the chairs faced each other and there was a little table in between them. The seats were a soft ivory color, the inside of the plane was a dark brown. We took our seats, Lyric and Diego on the left and Thomas and I on the right. The pilot went through all the guidelines and safety precautions that you would go through on a regular airplane. Then just like that we were up in the air looking down on the tiny speck of the land beneath us.
Thomas and I spent the time playing card games and reading. I also tried my best not to hurl each time we hit turbulence. Diego and Lyric went through their whole ceremony and then the after party.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you, we're having a little party tonight too." Lyric started saying
"Since there are so many people that want to come, we decided to have two parties." Diego finished as he clasped his hands together. I looked between them both.
"Seriously? You have that many people?" I asked in disbelief, Mostly because Diego hated large crowds or parties.
"Yep, we're sorry we didn't tell you, but we knew you might overreact a little and we didn't want any fights before we left." Lyric said worry creasing her forehead.
"It's fine. I just wasn't expecting it and I only brought one party dress."
"Don't worry, I have one you can borrow." Lyric replied, winking. I sat back in my seat, whatever she was going to lend me was going to be risque, I could feel it. The rest of the ride was silent as we looked out over the ocean. Soon we landed on the air strip, the SUV that we were going to drive was already waiting for us. As soon as we stepped out, heat blew over us. We headed inside the airport and to the bathrooms to change into more comfortable clothing. Shorts, skirt, t-shirts or tank tops. And either flip flops or crocs. After changing we walked back out to the car, put in our luggage and then started towards Diego home.
With the air conditioning on, we made our way down the palm tree lined streets, the ocean sparkled from a distance. Our chatter overlapped one another as Diego told us about places he wanted to take us, Lyric wanted to get the house ready, I wanted to go to the beach and Thomas, well, he sat quietly by listening to us argue.
"HEY!" Thomas yelled, making us all stop. We turned towards him. "How about this, we'll get our luggage in, we can go out for lunch and along the way Diego can show us around. Then we'll go home, get the place ready and as a reward we'll go to the beach." We all agreed. We turned down a pretty street, palm trees on either side, these houses had ocean views which made me jealous. Diego turned down a private road that seemed to go and go and go, soon though we came to a clearing, a big four story white house with blue shutters came into view. There was a wrap around porch with wooden planks. Dark freshly mowed green grass spread the length of the cliff that it sat upon. We climbed out, all but Diego in shock of it's beauty.
"Babe! How come you didn't show me this earlier!?" Lyric said punishing him on the arm. Diego laughed and grinned sheepishly.
"I don't know. I guess I was scared of what you might think."
"Might think?"
"Yeah, you know.." His words faded off into the distance as they walked to the house. A calloused hand eveloped mine as Thomas stood beside me.
"Wanna look around back?"
"Sure." Thomas and I walked along the sloping ground and around back where I let out a single gasp. It was like something out of a fairy tale or Narnia. The ocean looked so serene as the water rolled over and over sparkling gleefully. The waves crashing upon the shore filled my ears with music I longed for. There was a swinging bench near the edge of the gliff. A path from the back door led out to the little path cut out in the cliff to get down to the beach. Golden archways in a neat little row from the back door went all the way to the entrance of the path. Off on the right side was a fire pit with chairs, there were poles stuck into the ground with fairy lights strung across. The left side had a big pool with a hot tub on a platform next to it.
"If only she would move here." Thomas said casually as we focused our attention to the ocean as seagulls cries pierced the air.
"What do you mean?" I asked him
'Well, if she moved here, then we could vacation out here."
"True, but I bet Diego would let us, I mean he is going to be my brother in law."
"Well have to ask him when the time is right." He replied, winking. Then we headed inside to see what the bride and groom were up to. The inside was just as beautiful as the inside. The main floor was an open floor plan. Every piece of furniture a jet black except for white counter tops and a brown island in the kitchen. The couch in the living room was red and the bookshelves that encased the flat screen T.V were a dark brown. The polished porcelain square tile flooring in the living shined with a fresh clean. I didn't dare go check out the rest of the house for fear of getting sidetracked.
After using the bathroom and freshening up, Diego took us out to his favorite restaurant and showed us around the town. It was a nice town and I wished that we could explore it more. But it was 4:30 and the guests were coming at 5:30. We put our leftovers in the big fancy fridge, then we went around taking sheets off furniture and making food for the party. Then we went down to the beach for a couple minutes before returning to the house to finalize everything. At 5:26, Diego and Thomas went to get the fire started. Lyric and I made final checks on all the rooms and made sure all the decorations were in order. Then we went and got ourselves ready. And sure enough, she gave me a very rasque blue dress, which meant an open back and plunging neckline that exposed more of my breasts then I wanted to. She placed a black lacy choker with a single pearl hanging down around my neck, gave me a smoky eye makeup and red lips. Then she had me put on black heeled zipper boots. With a satisfied grin, she got herself ready, not allowing me to help her for she didn't want me to mess up my look.
She put on a red lacy dress that stopped at her thighs, a light red lipstick on and giant hoops in her ears. On her feet she wore clear high heels that made her taller than me. We walked down the wide fat stairs and into the open entryway. She lit a few candles and I turned on the record player. At precisely 5:30, the doorbell rang. Thomas and Diego who both wore dress shirts and dress pants opened the doors, the guests came swarming in. I did my due diligence in greeting these strangers, but I felt very out of place and I soon found myself walking alone on the beach. The cool sand tickling my feet as the soft hawwian breeze brushed my cheeks.
"You okay Dev?" I startled at Thoma's voice as he came running up beside me.
"Yeah, just a lot of people."
"There is a lot, I agree. Does she know them all?"
"I don't know. I think most of them are Diego's relatives and friends. But I mean he is very wealthy so he's going to have a lot of people."
"I wonder how many of them are fake." I snorted this.
"Probably a few." We stopped walking and turned so that we were looking out at the sea. The sun had just started to set and the colors in the sky were magnificent. Colors of orange and pink. I turned my head towards Thoms and looked at him. He looked so beautiful in the glowing light. My feelings of fear vanished as I took his hand. I thought about how far we've come and all that I've learned about him. But, there was no way I was going to let what I knew ruin my vacation and showing him I loved him. The idea that had popped in my head earlier taking over my mind. There was no turning back now. It was now or never.
"Let's go in."
"Why? Isn't it too crowded?"
"Yeah, but I have a surprise for you."
Oh yeah? What's that?
"You'll see." I grabbed his hand and we made our way up to the house, slinking past the guests and up the stairs. I had scoped the rooms out earlier and knew which one I wanted to go in for to do what I wanted to do.. Arriving at the door, I opened it and pushed him through. We stepped onto a hardwood floor which was dark brown. There was a dresser on the wall facing the door. The middle wall across from the queen sized bed was a seafoam green vanity set. I plopped him down on the bed, with his feet firmly planted on the floor, I stood in between his legs, then I cupped his face in my hands and kissed him. He kissed me back, we deppened it and soon our hands were all over each other. Before I knew it, my dress was down at my ankles and his shirt was off and then he laid me smack dab in the middle of the bed...
