Chapter Twelve
Something was wrong, but I didn't know what. I was in some sort of building, it was so dim and smoky that I couldn't see what kind. There were lights flashing and something kept dripping. Looking down at my hands, I saw that I had a gun held down at my left thigh. It felt real, but at the same time it didn't
"Tommy!" I hear a voice echo. I start to walk faster "Tommy!" The voice screams again, I start running. I can't quite place the voice, but I know that it's someone in trouble. All of a sudden I fall through a hole onto a cement floor. I landed hard on the cement floor, uninjured. Sitting up, I look around, it is a square room with no windows, I hear something shift, looking towards the middle, Tori is there on the floor. She's tied up and has blood coming from her head. "Tommy!" She says again "You came. I was worried that you wouldn't find me."
"Of course I would find you. You know I always will."
"I know, but.." She stops talking so I take the opportunity to ask
"What happened. Please, tell me."
"I-I can't." Her face fills with fear as a voice behind me says
"That's right, she can't, little brother." Suddenly I'm facing my brother and he's got an evil grin on his face.
"Why not?
"Because, I'll kill her."
You wouldn't" As soon as the words leave my mouth he sends a bullet flying. I watch in slow motion as it hits her right in the heart. She flies back from the strength of the shotgun.
"NOOOOO!" I yell running forward. I drop to my knees and pick her up, tears blurring my vision. "How could you?" I ask sobbing
"Because he's not the one who did it." When I look up, Bear had morphed into me.
"What?"
"You are a murderer Thomas. It was you who killed her not Blade, not his goons. YOU. You need to be more careful when you kill."
"But I didn't kill her. I would be more careful." My double shakes his head slowly
" Look again at who you just killed." Looking down at my arms, I see Devin, there's blood dripping from the bullet wound. Her eyes are open and stare out into nothingness. I lift her limp hand to my cheek.
"NO NO NO." I set her down and lunge at myself, but just as I grab him he disappears.
"Tommy?" I turn around and see Devin, she's standing but barely. A dark red spot is over her heart.
"Devin? Are you okay?"
"What did you do? You-you killed me." She says tears slipping down her face. " Did you kill me becuase I wouldn't have sex with you? Or because I wasn't good enough for you like Tori was?"
"WHAT!? No, no. of course not." I replied stepping forward.
"Then why?"
"I don't know why, I didn't even kill you. I would have known if I pulled the trigger." By now I was a few feet from her.
"Then why is your gun raised at me now?' Looking at my hand, I saw that it was aimed directly at her.
"I'm sorry." I tried to put my arm down but nothing was happening. I panicked as I felt myself walking closer to her, her face was motionless. I stopped when I was a few inches from her. As I watched her, she started flickering back and forth, as well as everything around me that's when it hit me "You know what? This isn't even real...real....real." I sit up, sweat soaked, breath heavy. The word real echoed in my brain. I rubbed my eyes and looked at the clock. It was 9:00. I've never slept that long before. I got up and walked to the shower in my room. I showered letting the cool water wash over me. Then I changed into grey sweatpants and a red sweatshirt. Walking out of my room, Devin was in the kitchen at the stove in her Pajamas. I could smell coffee brewing and something spicy. I thought about scaring her, but I could hear something sizzling in the pan and I didn't want her to get burned. I approached her slowly and cleared my throat. She jumped a little, but when she turned around she gave me a smile
"Good morning sleepy head."
"Morning. What are you cooking there?"
"Pancakes and sausage. I hope you don't mind." I walked closer and looked over her shoulder, everything was looking perfect.
"No, not at all. It's a nice treat." I grabbed out the plates and cups and set the table. She looked so cute in her little silk dress, that I secretly took a picture of her. She stacked the pancakes on a big plate and put a paper towel down on a littler one for the sausages. She brought them over to the table and set them in the middle. Then she poured the coffee from the pot into Tori's china teapot. She set that by the pancakes and put the pitcher of freshly squeezed orange juice next to the sausage.
"Is it too much?"
"No. Is this what you guys would eat?"
"Yes. But only on the weekends or if it was a special occasion."
"Well, it looks fantastic. I feel like a king." She laughed and sat down. I cleared my throat "Um do you want to change first?" She looked down and I saw her mouth turn into an O. Her cheeks grew red. She scooted back and disappeared into the bedroom. She came out a moment later in black woolen leggings and a white fuzzy sweater. We sat down and ate the most delicious meal I had ever eaten. After breakfast we read for a little bit and then I decided it was time to teach her how to cook and bake.
"The first thing we were going to bake is bread, I know it doesn't take a lot of work, but it tastes so good with lasagna which I think we'll cook for dinner"
"Okay." I get out the ingredients and then I have her go to the basement to get the breadmaker.

Going down the creepy steps, she thought back to one of the houses that she had been in. They were into strange rituals and had creepy things, they did their doings in their basement. The lady had told her to do it down to get something. So she had, but someone or something had tried to kill her, or so she thought. She was so scared out of her mind about what she had seen and heard that launched back up the stairs.
Now going down the creaky stairs, she took out her phone and with shaky fingers turned on the flashlight. She shined it all over until she found the light switch. She flicked it on and the light buzzed to life illuminating the small room. She located the shelf that he had mentioned and grabbed it then popped it onto her hip, shut the light off. She let her phone guide her back to the stairs and to the light of the sun. she sighed in relief
"Everything okay?"
"Uh yeah. Just scared of basements."
"Oh?" He quirked an eyebrow up at me
"Yeah. Childhood nightmares." I replied, setting the maker down on the island.
"Ah. well sorry, if I had known, I would have done it." I waved my hand at him
"Eh it's fine. No biggie. So where's the outlet?" I asked, swinging the cord around.
"Um it's over there." He replied pointing to it on the counter where the toaster was. I lugged it over, moved the toaster out of the way and plugged it in. He came over behind me and put in the ingredients and then pressed start. Tingles went down my spine from the closeness of him. Next we got out a box of brownies and he taught me how to butter the pan and then measure the ingredients, what to put together and what not to. He added chocolate chips to make it more chocolatey. With the bread in the maker and the brownies in the oven we sat down at the table to play bananagrams. His rules were if you say dump you have to take three, but you can dump as many times as you can. He also didn't let us do abbreviations whcih I thought was stupid becuase there was so many ones I could use, but it's okay, I made it through the first round. The second was a little rougher just because I was bad at looking at all my letters and coming up with the words quickly before he could say peel. We had stopped to take the brownies out halfway through the first game, and we now munched on them as we played. They were the gooiest brownies I had ever had.
"Wow these are good!"
"Yes, I was just going to say that. Good job."
"Thanks. You did most of it and the oven." I said with a raise of my shoulder
"Well yeah, but you mixed it together. I just poured it in the pan."
"True. But I'm still gonna give you credit." I smiled at him and placed my tile down and said "Peel." He grumbled a little bit but reluctantly took a tile. This game was mine for the win. The smell of the bread eventually wafted into the room. I stopped the game just to look into the little window at the top. Of course I couldn't see much in it as it was foggy.
"Why don't we finish our game later? Let's watch a movie or a show, or we could play Mario Kart." He said clearly noticing I wasn't into the game much. Oops.
"I'm game for Mario Kart." He nodded his head and went to set it up while I went to use the bathroom. I pulled out my phone just to see if I had any texts. I smiled as I saw Lyric's name. I opened up the message
Hi girl! How are you? I miss you so much!" I smiled at her words and wrote a response
"Today I cooked Thomas breakfast, and now he is teaching me how to bake and cook. I'm going to take him on in Mario Kart in a little bit. I miss you so much too. I know you will think it's stupid, but I hate being so far away from-" I deleted it. The dots didn't appear. I washed my hands and went back into the living room to where he had everything set up. I plopped down next him, we picked out our characters and did battle. He picked the red team, I picked the blue and then we raced.

Her text came back. I smiled at it. I was glad that she was doing alright. I still hated the fact that she was gone as we had vowed to stay together for as long as possible. I felt like I was breaking that vow by marrying Diego, but I think she was okay with it. I set my phone down and looked at myself in the mirror. I was going to buy her maid of honor dress today. I knew she wouldn't care what it looked like and we were the same size so I knew that I could get it fitted and then mail it to her as a surprise.
"This is the one I want." I said to the fitter.
"It's just lovely dear. Whose wedding is it for?"
"Mine." She looked at me quizzically. "I'm getting it fit for my sister. Were roughly the same size. So I thought I would do it for her. I want it to be a surprise."
"Oh I see. When are you going to do your wedding dress?"
"Not yet. I want her to be with me. But she's busy at the moment and I don't want to do it until she gets her dress."
"Do you want me to box it for you?"
"Thank you, and yes, that would be great." I changed then went and sat on the couch next to Diego while she boxed it.
"So, did she reply?"
"Yeah. She said everything is great and that he's teaching her new things."
"See, I told you that they would be fine." He replied, wrapping an arm around me.
"I know I know. But I worry for her. Call it sisterly love."
"I know you do. You still can, but you have to put her on the back burner for now and worry about yourself okay."
"Yeah." AFter collecting the box, we went out for lunch.

She had beat me. Beat me in team, beat me solo. Beat me in the challenge games. I should never have played her. (I'm joking, maybe.)
"Okay, I think we're done here. What would you like to do now?"
"You're just jealous." She said laughing as she put her controler down.
"I am not." I protested
"Are too. But that's okay. What do you want to do? It's your turn to choose since I picked this."
"Well I don't know."
"Well, answer me this, what did you and Tori normally do on a weekend?" He shifted and cleared his throat
"We um." I paused, I didn't know what to say, on most weekends we were mostly running odd jobs for Blade. "We usually just lounged around at home. Took walks around the block, but it was the most fun to do it at night because that's when the town lit up."
"That sounds like fun. Let's do that tonight and maybe every night."
"Well see, I know it's supposed to get even colder."
"Well, that's why we bundle up!" She said smiling, her eyes sparkling. A loud beep filled the room, "The bread!" She shouted and ran to the maker. I went up behind her and opened the lid, the smell wafted across the whole room.
"Let me pull it out, and then we can try some."
"Okay!" I pulled out the metal part that it was in and set it on the counter, next I grabbed out a cutting board and shook the metal container up and down until it slipped out. It was a beautiful blond color I turned to get a knife, but she had already gotten one. I grabbed it out of her hand and cut two small slices, we counted to three and took a bite.
"Do you like it?"
"Mmmm. gt's so giif." She said as she talked around a piece in her mouth. She swallowed and then repeated herself "It's so good!"
"Good!"
"What else are we going to make?"
"Well, just the lasagna for dinner."
"Mmmm. If you have the ingredients, could I make a caesar salad?"
"Of course you can!" I put the rest of the bread in a bag and then I did the dishes which didn't take long. We finished our game and then we made sandwiches for lunch and watched a couple of episodes of Psych. After lunch we played phase 10, and instead of going from the top to bottom, we decided to go the opposite way.

I was enjoying myself so much. It was so different from when I was at home. When we were home, we were always busy, or she was always gone at her parties so we never got to hang out very much unless I called in. I still had burning questions about his past which I hope to ask eventually, maybe tonight.
After our game we headed to Lyrics house. I was excited to see her and I know I hadn't been gone for long, but I still missed her.
"I'm gonna check the mail on our way out."
"Okay." I followed him to the mailbox on the wall. He opened it and looked through the letters.
"This one is for you."
"For me?" I grabbed it out of his hand and looked at it.. I opened it and pulled out a letter, I scanned it and then shrieked in glee.
"What what?" Thomas asked frantically
"They accepted my application!"
"That's fantastic. When do you start?"
"Tomorrow."
"Wow that's soon."
"I know! But it looks like they are low on staff."
"Well, I'm glad for you Devin. Come on, let's go."
"Thank you. I am excited but nervous as well." We walked to the car and got in, we were quiet for a few minutes then
"So, after dinner are you going to teach me to draw?"
"Oh, of course I will. That was our deal after all." He chuckled and squeezed my hand. I smiled and looked at the window at everything around me. It was pretty dull becuase of the snow, but I looked anyway. Soon we came to the familiar roads and buildings and my heart skipped a beat knowing that I was almost home. After a few turns, we made it to the familiar street, the street name was an odd one, SingleBoone. Two blocks down, and in all its glory was my home.
