Ch. 7: Chasing the Devil's Tail
Hayley and Aiden came to the loft to talk.
Hayley was looking for Jackson. She had found him, but Oliver had died.
"Where is your alpha?" I asked.
Hayley sighed. "Unavailable."
"So, you brought Junior Varsity?" Marcel asked. "You know, I'm getting a little tired of you using my place as a den for wayward wolves."
"Well, it was just that we were going to, uh, take down Finn Mikaelson today, and considering how he treated your vampires, I assumed that you two would want in on the bloodbath," Hayley told us.
I was interested. "I'm listening."
Hayley and Aiden sat down across from us.
"Well..." Aiden trailed off, clearing his throat. "It's not gonna be easy. He's surrounded by a pack of juiced up wolves. He doesn't have a weakness."
"He does, actually," Marcel told us, pulling his phone out of his pocket. "And, I have her on speed dial."
Hayley and Aiden looked at him in confusion.
"He's got a thing for Cami," I explained.
"Klaus will go ballistic if we get Cami involved in this," Hayley told us.
"Klaus ain't here," I told her. "And Cami? Well, she's got this thing about people telling her what she can and can't do." Marcel called her, putting his phone to his ear. I looked at Hayley. "I trust you, of all people, understand."
Hayley chuckled.
**
Cami had tricked Finn into going on a date with her.
Aiden, Hayley, Josh, Marcel and I were in the loft, outlining the plan to take him down.
Aiden smoothed out a map on the coffee table. "Cami said Vincent wants to meet at Preservation Hall. But, he won't be unprotected." He pointed to different spots on the map. "There will be wolves positioned here and here."
Marcel pointed at a different location on the map. "Can we keep this alley open?"
Aiden nodded.
"All right, I'll wait there and rip Vicent's head off," Hayley told us.
"Nah, he'll body jump," I told her.
Cami walked in with a file box of stuff. "Vincent's head stays on. He'll have a hard time answering questions without it."
Cami opened the box.
"Sweet, it's a big box of dusty old junk," Josh told us sarcastically. "We're saved."
Aiden couldn't help a smile.
I started to go through the box.
Cami laughed. "They're dark objects my uncle left for me. I've been cataloging them according to Kieran's notes. As far as I can tell, these can be used against witches specifically."
I pulled out a pair of chains out of the box.
"Kinky," Hayley said.
Josh laughed.
"Ah, I remember these," I told them. "A hundred years ago, the Human Faction waged a war against the Voodoo Queens. They had a traitor spell these manacles. Slap them on a witch, they can't do magic as long as they're on."
I set the chains back into the box.
"All right, we're not gonna get the handcuffs of doom on him while he's surrounded by a werewolf entourage," Josh told us.
"We can just lure him away," Aiden told us. "I can do that."
"Cami, if we do this, you're the bait," Hayley told her. "Are you sure you're okay with that?"
Everyone looked at Cami in concern.
Cami looked slightly nervous, but shook it off. "Make it look convincing. The guy's really smart."
**
Cami and Finn had been at the Preservation Hall, Hayley had come in in disguise, bit Cami and took off with her, making sure that Finn knew it was a werewolf who had taken her.
We were all at St. Anne's Church.
Aiden was on the phone with Finn.
Finn was furious. "It was a wolf bite! Who broke rank?"
"I'll knock some heads together and find out."
"I'll know where Camille is shortly. You'll meet me there. Come alone, because your wolves can't be trusted."
Aiden hung up, walking closer to us at the sacristy. "Well, he bought it. His locator spell will bring him here without the bodyguards."
I bit my wrist, dripping my blood into a golden cup used for communion.
Cami watched, her neck still bitten. "I always thought having a woman's mouth on my neck would be more erotic."
Hayley chuckled.
I held the communion cup toward her. "You'll heal fast. Let's get all these lights off. Here you go."
Cami drank the blood.
Aiden walked across the room to snuff out the candles.
Josh followed.
"We're so going to hell for this," Aiden told him.
Josh laughed. "Yeah, well, you get used to it." Aiden couldn't help a laugh. "Hey, I know this isn't your ideal Friday night. I'm sure you'd rather be, like, doing push-ups, or drinking beers with your bros, or whatever."
"Eh, it's not so bad," Aiden told him.
They smiled at each other.
Wait...
Aiden was the guy that Josh was seeing on the dating app?
I shrugged, shaking my head, looking away.
Cami looked at Hayley and me. "Okay, tell me the plan one more time."
"Aiden's gonna get Vincent to the alter, and then we're gonna jump him," Hayley told her. "He's powerful, though, so we only have a few seconds to get the shackles on him."
"Where's Marcel?" Cami asked.
"He's looking for Davina," I answered. "He heard she was back in town."
"Overprotective dad stuff?" Cami asked.
"If you want to call ripping Kol Mikaelson into a thousand little pieces 'protective dad stuff', then, yeah," I answered. "That's it."
Cami chuckled, blotting the blood off her neck with a towel.
**
I could hear Aiden and Finn outside.
"I staked it out," Aiden told him. "It looks like a couple of Oliver's friends wanting to avenge his death."
"Where's Cami?" Finn asked.
"She's, uh, she's tied up near the alter," Aiden told him. "Hey, you bee-line for her, I'll handle the rest of them, all right?"
"Aiden?" Finn asked. "Your brother was among the recruits that Oliver rescued, was he not?"
Finn used magic to throw Aiden through the front door of the church.
Aiden slid down the aisle, slamming into a pew, making the wooden bench shatter, unconscious.
Josh rushed toward Aiden to make sure that he was okay, not noticing right away that Finn was storming down the aisle after him. he froze in fear.
Finn raised his arms on either side of him, using magic to light all of the candles and turn on all of the lights in the church.
Josh stood defensively.
Finn twisted his wrist, using magic to snap his neck.
Josh's temporarily dead body fell to the floor.
Finn continued to walk down the aisle. "Camille. Camille!"
Hayley appeared behind Finn, tackling him to the floor.
Finn stood.
"First, I'm going to kick your ass," Hayley told him. "Then, I'm going to take my pack back."
Finn laughed weakly. "Your pack? Last I checked, your pack was blindly following me."
I appeared behind Finn. "You wanna talk about following?" Finn turned to face me. "How do you mother's boots taste?"
I kicked Finn in the face, splitting his lip, making him fall to the floor.
"What have you done with Cami?" Finn asked.
I laughed sarcastically, raising my arms in a shrug.
Finn used magic to push me down the aisle into the steps of the sacristy. He raised one of the broken pieces of the pew, making it soar toward me, into my stomach.
Finn turned toward Hayley, using magic to disable her. "Hybrids die by losing their head or their heart. And, given the choice, I'm going to take the organ that got you into this mess in the first place."
Finn started to chant, making a fist, walking toward Hayley.
Hayley held her chest in pain, starting to spit up blood. The front of her shirt was gathering a blood stain. He was starting to rip out her heart.
An arrow suddenly pierced Finn through his shoulder from behind, making him scream in pain, turning to see Jackson with a bow and quiver of arrows.
Jackson jumped down from the balcony, shooting another arrow into Finn's thigh, making him fall to the floor.
Finn crawled down the aisle to get away from us.
Cami appeared, healed, slammed the manacles onto his wrists.
Finn looked at Cami in disbelief, clearly feeling betrayed, trying to fight back with magic, but the chains were making that impossible.
"You would have done the same thing to me, Finn," Cami told him.
Finn was completely stunned, staring at his hands, starting to process what just happened.
I pulled the makeshift stake out of my stomach, breathing heavily, healing.
Jackson instantly went to Hayley to check on her. "Are you okay?" He brushed her hair off her face. "I'm so sorry I made you wait."
"Your timing was pretty awesome, actually," Hayley told him, laughing in relief.
Jackson chuckled.
Hayley was stunned and relieved to be alive.
**
I put Finn in my car, driving him the compound.
Marcel had found Kol.
We went to see Klaus and newly-found Elijah in Elijah's room.
Klaus was leaning against a chair in the room, talking to Elijah, who was standing on he balcony. "How do you feel?"
"The worst has past," Elijah told him. "Though, I suspect the nightmares are far from over."
"Well, gather your strength," Klaus told him. "After the message I sent Mother tonight, I expect hellfire to rain upon us imminently."
Elijah approached him. "We need to make a move before she strikes."
"Well, actually, moves were made while you were sleeping," Marcel told him.
I smiled. "It's good to see you vertical. Marcel and I each left a gift for you in the ballroom." Klaus looked at us curiously. "You're welcome."
Klaus looked at Elijah.
Elijah gestured to us.
"You're welcome," Marcel told them.
We led the way into the ballroom.
Finn and Kol were each wearing the chains, suspended from the stairwell railings on either side of the room by their wrists.
Klaus and Elijah looked very pleased.
"Kidnapping?" Kol asked incredulously. "That's a rather unpleasant way to begin a family reunion."
Klaus smiled. "Well, wait until you see how we end it."
