Rebound, But Newfound [boyxboy]

                “AH! Trace!”

I ducked and the soccer ball my best friend had just chucked narrowly missed hitting me and shattering my skull. I stood up straight and glared at Trace as he shrugged and repositioned himself in front of the soccer goal.

I sighed and jogged over to retrieve the ball. I took a few more shots on Trace before we decided to call it a day and head back to his house for a little.

We put the soccer ball back in the supply shed and left the soccer field, which was located behind an elementary school. We began to walk down the road towards Trace’s house.

“Where was Kory?” I asked curiously, trying not to blush.

Kory was my ex boyfriend and Trace’s current boyfriend. He was also Trace’s stepbrother, but their parents accepted them.

I was still in love with Kory, even though we had broken up so he could date Trace. I was trying to get over him though.

“He was at the mall with his mom. Where was Tommy?” Trace countered, giving me a warning look. He knew I still had feelings for Kory and he hated it.

Tommy was my boyfriend. He had recently come out as gay, and asked me out almost immediately after. Tommy knew my feelings for Kory, but he still wanted to be with me, and honestly, I wanted to be with him too. I really did like Tommy a hell of a lot.

“He’s working. He should be off by now though, but he hasn’t texted me yet,” I said with a shrug.

We reached Trace’s house and he let us inside. We got some water out of his kitchen and sat down in his living room.

“Hey boys. How was your practicing?” Trace’s dad, Brandon, asked with a smile as he entered the room.

“Well, I scored on Trace. So I guess that means I’m a freaking pro,” I said and Brandon chuckled. Trace rolled his eyes and sipped his water. He was an incredible goalie, and he knew me too well for me to really score on him anymore.

“Well, Trace we need to get you knew shin guards. Do you want to come with us Zeke?” Brandon asked me. I shook my head and stood up.

“No thanks Mr. Saunders. I’m going to head home before my parents wonder if I got eaten by a polar bear or something,” I said.

“What the hell? Zeke, stop hanging out with Kory. You’re getting weirder than usual,” Trace said with an annoyed sigh. “I can barely put up with Kory. For the love of all that is good and normal in this world, do not start acting like that moron.”

I laughed and shrugged innocently. “Sorry Trace. I can’t help it,” I said with a wink before waving and leaving his house.

I walked back to my house and let myself in. “Hey dad,” I greeted, going into the kitchen. My dad smiled at me and waved.

“Hi Zeke. You’re home late,” he said.

I nodded. “Yea, sorry about that. We stayed longer than we thought and I ended up heading over to Trace’s house for a little,” I explained. Dad nodded, not really concerned. He trusted me to be out on my own for a long time. I was 17 for hell’s sake!

“Well, we’re going out to dinner tomorrow night, so feel free to invite Tommy to come,” he said, turning to clean the dirty dishes in the sink.

I smiled happily. “Awesome! Thanks dad. I’ll go call him and ask him right now,” I said. Dad grinned at me and nodded.

I went upstairs and into my bedroom. I shut and locked my door before pulling my T-shirt off and running my hands through my hair. I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and began to search for Tommy’s number.

Arms wrapped around my waist from behind and I jumped before smiling. “Hi Tommy. Thank you for watching me take my shirt off before making your presence known. My dad let you in?”

“Yes,” Tommy mumbled, placing his chin on my shoulder and kissing my neck. “How do you always know it’s me? What if it was someone else?”

I chuckled and turned so that I could hug him. “Your smell. You always smell like the old books at the library. I like that smell,” I said and kissed him gently.

Tommy’s parents owned the local library and employed Tommy and his two older brothers, Sammy and Mikey. Tommy generally helped out more than his brothers, though. He liked the quiet atmosphere. Tommy was an incredibly laid back and relaxed person, and he liked silence. The library matched his personality.

“Well, I’ll be sure to spray on cologne next time and see if you still think it’s your boyfriend,” he said, pulling me over to my bed and sitting down, me in his lap and his arms still around my waist.

“Not nice Tommy. Anyways, my dad wants to know if you want to come to dinner with us tomorrow?” I asked.

Tommy shrugged and nodded. “Sure,” he said and pressed his lips to mine. I smiled softly into the kiss. We pulled away and I stared into Tommy’s eyes.

I liked to call his eyes the poisoned gold, though Kory generally called them gurple. Tommy had incredible and somewhat disturbing eyes. They were a breathtaking mix of gold and purple, and always seem to hold any available light captive, sparkling.

I rested my head on Tommy’s shoulder and he kissed my forehead. “Oh hi,” he said calmly, his eyes doing that light capturing thing again. I nearly had to squint to look into his eyes.

“I love your eyes so much Tommy. Never get high. Red, gold, and purple would be a weird combination for you,” I said with a frown.

“I’ll keep that in mind considering the fact that I don’t do drugs or drink,” he said, rolling his eyes at me.

“I’m just making sure,” I said, cupping his face in my hands and bringing my lips to his. He had soft, thin lips that I just freaking loved kissing.

I really think I was starting to fall hard for Tommy. But then I would see Kory, and I would doubt myself. I knew I was falling for Tommy, and I just didn’t want to hurt him. Was it possible for me to love two boys at once?

“Zeke, I know what you’re thinking,” Tommy said in that relaxed voice of his.

I bit my lip nervously and blushed. Tommy ran his hand through my hair and his lips twitched into a thin smile.

“Hey, don’t worry about it. I’ll stalk you all over the internet until you’re in love with me and me only,” he said with a nod.

It was what I loved about Tommy. He was so sure of himself. He presented himself so that you knew he had everything under control, even if he really didn’t. He couldn’t control my emotions and he knew it, but he still remained confident that I would fall for only for him.

“Do you love me Tommy?” I asked.

He shrugged. “I’m starting to. I’m not completely in love with you, but I’m getting those feelings. I’ve liked you for a while Zeke. I was pretty pumped when I found out you were gay. Pretty sure I jerked off to a picture of you that night. Is that creepy? Aw, I don’t give a shit.” He kissed me and I laughed.

Another thing I loved about Tommy was his brutal honesty. Yes, it could hurt at times. But at least when he said something, I knew he said honestly. He didn’t sugar coat things. As he liked to put it, “Polish shit and it’s still shit.”

We laid back on my bed together and I curled into Tommy’s arms. He continued to run his hand through my hair, occasionally kissing me.

“What are you thinking?” I asked curiously.

“I’m thinking about Blue Clam Cult. Baby don’t fear the reaper,” he sang.

                “It’s Blue Oyster Cult, dummy.”

“I was close. Oyster, Clam. Same thing.” He shrugged.

I chuckled and rested my head on his chest, closing my eyes. Tommy seemed to have trouble remembering words. He would get close, but not exact. It didn’t seem to bother him. Nothing really seemed to bother Tommy.

“Oh Tommy. You idiot,” I said with a sigh.

“Shut up,” he said and kissed my lips.

“Soccer fields tomorrow?” I asked as Tommy began to trace his fingers on my bare chest. He shrugged and nodded.

I forced a smile. Tommy’s expression told me he knew it was forced, and he knew why it was forced. Because Kory would be at the soccer field tomorrow.

I mentally shook myself as I stared into Tommy’s poison gold eyes. I had to get over my feelings for Kory and try to move on with Tommy before it tore us apart. I curled up to Tommy, my mind spinning, wishing I could just move on already.
