Prologue
"It was suppose to be our first meeting, yet....
A ball bounced over the wall as a 5-year-old, Pink haired girl ran after it.
"Oh no!" She climb up to the wall and looked around. She jumped. She didn't noticed a silver haired Anbu sitting, holding the ball that just hit his head, in his lap.
His head snapped at the girl who has just hopped in his backyard. The girl was busy looking so she didn't notice his approach.
A gloved hand came to her view, "Is this ball your's?" A smooth voice asked.
I was certain that I knew this person..
The girl took the ball and look up at the stranger. The ball fell out of her grasp as her eyes caught a sight of silver haired, masked ninja.
From a long time ago, even before I was born...
She clutched his large hand between her smaller one's as her emerald green eyes stared at him like a blind man looked at the moon for the first time.
I loved you in my past life...
"Sarutobi Naegi, died at age of 13. Kakashi's girlfriend, who also passed away....
Was my past self...."
"You alright, kid?" Kakashi's head was looming over her small frame. He felt her hands tremble in his grasp.
She suddenly threw herself against him, letting out a sob.
"Hey, it's alright. Are you lost? I'll get you home, so don't cry." He said, awkwardly patting the head of the girl clinging to his chest.
He signed in relief as sobs on his chest finally stopped, "C'mon, let's get you home." He tried to push her but her grip tightened.
Letting out a tired sign, He lifted her in arms and she buried head in his clothed neck.
"At least tell me your name?" He asked.
Refusing to look up, She mumbled something in neck then shook her head.
He bit back a smile, "you don't want to tell me your name? Then I'll call you little monkey. Atleast tell me where do you live, little monkey. So, I can take you home." He felt a chuckle bubble in chest as he felt her huff in his neck.
"Hawuno Sakuwa...." She mumbled, still refusing to look up.
"Nah...I'll stick to the 'little monkey'" His familiar teasing voice made her eyes watered again.
Hearing her sniffle, his eye widened, "Alright! I'll call you Sakura-chan. Please, don't start crying again..."
Hearing his pleading tone, a watery giggle escaped her mouth before she could stop it.
"Where do you live?" Finally Sakura looked up and pointed at the direction. Kakashi nodded and walked in the directions she pointed. Finally he came across a civilian society.
She pointed at the faded brown door to their left.
"Here?" He asked. She nodded.
He walked to the house and knocked twice. The door opened as a frantic looking woman came to his view. The woman's eyes widened upon seeing his daughter to the Anbu.
She quickly took Sakura and showered her in kisses, "Oh! Thank goodness!"
Kakashi stood there awkwardly, scratching his back of his head.
The woman noticed him and gave a grateful bow, "Thank you so much for finding my daughter, Anbu-san. I'm very grateful."
Kakashi gave a respected nod.
Sakura wiggled in her mother's arms and leaned over. Next thing she did made Kakashi's eye widen in shock and her mother squeal. She planted a innocent kiss on Kakashi's masked lips.
The emotionless ninja sputtered an apology before disappearing in a smoke. Sakura's mother went inside and closed the door after her.
"Why did you do that, sweetie?" Amusement was prominent in her tone.
Sakura gave a knowing smile, "Because I love him, mommy."
Soon, It'll be an year since I met him. Since then, I usually visit him. He's on the missions frequently but sometimes I would find him sitting there mediating, like today...
She grabbed the brick and climbed up to the wall like usual. She looked down and smiled as she saw him sitting at his usual spot.
"Here...I...Go!" She jumped, knowing he would catch her.
And he did.
To be honest, Kakashi was now used to the antics of the pink haired monkey, who usually climb to the training ground's wall.
She always interrupts his mediation routines when he's here. Always. He watched as she jumped and in flash caught her.
He gave a half-hearted glare and pinched her chubby cheeks, "This little monkey! How many times I told you not to climb walls!?" His playful tug on her cheeks, as if proving a point.
"I'm Sowwy..." She said through squished cheeks.
He signed and knelt down, "What would you do if you injure yourself?" He says, "Are hurt anywhere?"
"My cheeks..." She gave a pained pout.
Kakashi felt the corner of his lips tug upwards, "If it's just there, then it's alright.." He got a big pout in reply.
"Why are here today?" He said, already knowing the answer.
And with usual cheeky grin she replied, "Because I want to see you."
"You always come and see me...." He signed and went back in his spot, sitting down. Sakura also flopped beside him.
She gave a confused tilt towards him, "That's because We promised, didn't we? In the academy..."
"Look Kakashi! We're going to be a ninja!" A small, brunette squealed as she dragged her best friend in the academy.
"Yeah...yeah.." Silver haired boy grumbled, shoving his hands in his pocket.
The brunette stopped and turned to him, "You're not happy?"
"No...It's just....Nevermind!" He tried to walk past but her hand stopped him.
"Tell me!" She demanded.
"There's no one who'll welcome me back home whenever I finished my mission...." He mumbled, looking at the sky with a bored expression.
The brunette gave him a grin, "I'll do it!"
"Huh?"
"I'll always come and see you!" She smiled.
The boy returned her smile, "Then, it's a promise!"
Because Naegi couldn't keep that promise....
Kakashi raised a curious eyebrow, "Me?" The pinkette nodded, happily.
"What did I promise you? Or rather in the academy? You're not even six yet.." He clearly doesn't believe her.
Sakura suddenly got up and propped down in front of him, Giving him her cheeky grin.
"Ne~ Ne~ Do you have a girlfriend?" Her eyes sparkled.
Kakashi opened his visible eye, "What's with that, all of the sudden?"
She shrugged
"It's a Secret."
"Then what is your type?" She leaned over.
"Well...." He scratch his chin, "Someone who can walk gracefully in the yukata. Even though She hates it and is always rough and energetic. She walked in yukata very gratefully....." He was lost in thought.
That's about Naegi? That girl...
"Did you like her that much...?" She tilted her head forward causing her pink bangs to cover her watery eyes. She bit her lip, forcing herself to calm down the sob building in her chest.
Even I forget it but you remembered even such a small thing.....
"Who knows...." His voice was monotonous, "I've already forgotten..."
Then I heard a sound of a heart breaking. Oh! It's my heart...
"I-I'm...I'm going home!" She kept her head down in a fear that he'll see her crying face and ran. Although he had already see the tears falling.
Kakashi looked startled, "Eh? Sakura?!" But she didn't listened and ran home.
It's fine. It's fine! The one he loved was my past self. It's not like he still has feelings for me now!!
But....
But Naegi, you're boyfriend's so heartless!
I know I died...but that's too mean!
A young Naegi walked out of the academy and saw the silver haired boy, leaning against the wall..
"You're late..." he grumbled.
"Hehehe sorry, I got the cleaning duty, today.." She jumped next to him and grinned.
"Eh, Why so silent-" Her words were cut off when he grabbed her hand and entwined their fingers...
From that day onwards... we always held hands while walking home...
We couldn't tell each other 'I love you' or 'Let's go out' or 'Go out with me'.
But even so, certainly understood each other's feelings...
And yet...
Today he found her sitting there on his spot with a big frown on her adorable face.
He saw her glancing at him as her frown widened.
"Sakura-chan...Have you eaten breakfast?" He gave a sly grin behind his mask, "Look, I got onigiri..."
Her pout was there, "I don't want it..."
"Why?"
"Because I'm on a diet..."She lies.
Kakashi's lips tilted in a fond smile, "But..." He knelt down in front of her, "If you loose anymore weight...You gradually loose more of your cuteness, you know?"
He's an adult...He knew I lied but kept quite because he's an adult...
"Here..." He sat the lunch box in front of me, "Make sure you eat a lot, alright?"
"I lied." she blurts, "The thing about dieting is a lie. I was sulking and want to trouble you and I didn't want to tell you the truth so I lied....I'm sorry!"
Kakashi looked surprised, "Wow...Your parents taught you well..."
"Stop treating me like a kid!" She snapped as he patted her head.
"No...that's not it..." He says, "I'm telling you because you're a good girl.."
She felt her cheek flushed.
"Someone who can't lie...has it hard.."
"Hard? Not really." She bounced on her heels
"Haha.." He chuckled, "Is that so?"
'Hard'? What is hard?
She enters her house and saw her mum and a lady sitting.
"Welcome home.." her mom smiled.
"Hello.." Sakura bows respectfully.
"This is my daughter. You know, the one who stuck with Hatake-san like a glue...." Her mother winked.
Sakura flushed, "Mom!"
The lady smiled kindly, "It's a good thing, I suppose. The boy is been through alot."
Her mother gave curious look, "How come you know that Shiranui-san?"
"My son is on the same squad. One day while drinking....
"I think I might've have lost something." Kakashi slurs.
Genma looked at him, "What?"
"In some way, My ability to love someone, it seems..." Kakashi hiccups.
"What do you mean?"
"I probably already...." He slurs, "Don't have strength to love anyone anymore..."
That's wrong, Kakashi. That's not how it should be....The wound left by my death didn't disappeared...but it became bigger.
Until now.....this person has been alone...
Sakura looked down from the bridge and signed, "I should go home...."
She jumped down the stairs.
"HEY!LOOK OUT!" Sakura saw a large cart coming towards a pregnant lady. Without a second thought, She ran to the lady and pushed her out of the way. But got in front instead.
Huh? for some reason it felt like Deja vu....
She felt herself grabbed and opened her eyes to see Kakashi Panting on the floor with her on top of him.
Kakashi quietly stood up with her in his arms and started to walk.
"Woah! That scared me! But it's great that it didn't end up being an accident." Sakura said but Kakashi kept silent, "I'm sorry, Kakashi. Thanks for hel-"
"Don't..." Growled Kakashi. Sakura flinched. Kakashi sat her down and cupped her face, looking directly in her eyes.
"To be able to help someone is an amazing side of yours...but..." He paused, "Doing it so that you expose yourself to danger is something I absolutely won't think is right. Don't ever do that again!" He was yelling now.
He took a deep breath to calm himself.
Sakura looked at Kakashi with a tears glistening in her eyes, "I'm sorr-"
"I also lied to you before..."
"Huh?"
"The yukata girl was my first girlfriend... I lied when I said I forget about her... I didn't want to tell you so I lied...sorry." He gave a closed eye smile, though he looked anything but happy, " She died on the mission. She took the hit meant for someone else.....Her actions scarily resembles your's. She was like a hero....back then... Why couldn't I save her?" He was looking at the sky.
"Someone who can't lie has it hard.." Surely the truth is, more than anyone, Someone who lie is the one who has it hard..
You know I...
"Kakashi" Sakura called, "I love you. Please go out with me!"
Want to be happy with you this time around too...
He inhaled, then bowed, "Sorry. I can't. " He continued, "I have a person who I've been loving all these 10 years...."
Even to a kid, his manner was polite. He didn't lie either... You're very sweet.
"Yeah.." Sakura smiled a adoring smile, "It's fine..."
He looked at her surprised. He expecting her to break down into tears but she just stood there looking at him with adoring eyes.
It can't be helped...Shall we start from an unrequited love again...
"Ne, Kakashi...." Sakura said, while walking holding his hand, "I definitely won't die before you..."
I won't leave you alone again....
"As if, I'll let someone 15 years younger than me..die before me
I will make you fall in love with me...
