Chapter 8

Sorry for the delay on this chapter! I've been in a slump lately that I can't get out of. If you guys could leave comments it always makes motivated to write more and puts a smile to my face!

"It's pretty much just like my car, settings are all pretty much the same. I just put new tires on it so it should be good." Pierce instructed as I started up the car. A smile grew across my lips as I looked over at him in pure excitement, I could 't even begin to express how grateful I was. I felt like I couldn't even accept it, but Pierce would not have taken no for an answer.

I gripped the leather steering wheel, my fingers tightening around the wheel as I stared straight ahead. I inched my foot on the gas as I pulled out of the garage before beginning to speed off into the near distance. I watched the speedometer go from 0 to 80 within a matter of seconds, the acceleration being no joke for this car.

I pulled out into the alleyway before hitting the main streets of New York. The city was pretty busy for this time of night, most people were usually at home by now. I glanced back into the mirror, seeing a line of cars behind me and in front of me.

I took one more glance before whipping the car into the shoulder of the road and speeding down it. I didn't waste any time as I sped past all the sitting cars, making sure the coast was clear from the cops. I stayed right and entered onto the highway ramp. Slamming down the gas, I merged into the oncoming lane and began to see how fast this car could really go.

Pierce gripped onto the side of the passenger door, making me roll my eyes in response. I turned my attention back to the speedometer and watched the speed raise more and more with further the pedal was pushed. I turned my head over to the side before swerving the car in and out of traffic.

"Do you like it?" Pierce asked and like was a severe understatement. "I love it." I grinned back at him, the car making me feel so powerful behind the driver's seat "But you did not have to do this for me, I mean this is insane-I never in a million years would've asked for something-"

"I wanted to." Pierce stopped me from rambling "You deserve it more than anyone Aspen, and with everything you've gone through in the past year I just thought you could use something like this to take your mind off of everything."

I was still dumbfounded, the reality not really setting in yet. Pierce was an amazing boyfriend, the kind of guy you dream about but never really get it. I just wish I could've told my sixteen-year-old self that there was so much better out there for me.

"Take this exit ahead." Pierce nodded his head at the upcoming highway exit. It was dark out, the only thing lighting up the surroundings was the car headlights. I kept my eyes on the road ahead, squinting slightly to avoid hitting any dear that may jump out. There were no cars on the road around us, making it easy to speed through the exit ramp.

"Pull over up there." Pierce pointed ahead at some parking lot that was located right near a park. I had recognized the park, it was the parking lot where Pierce pulled over to in order to let me drive his car for the first time. It was already a year ago, but it didn't feel like it. I could still remember how nervous I had been getting in the driver's seat, not wanting to crack up his car or he would have cracked my head. The thought me internally chuckle at how far we had come since then.

I made a swift turn into the parking lot before pulling into a spot and putting the car in park. "You know this is the place where I first drove your car." I shared the memory with Pierce, wondering if he was thinking the same thing. "I know." His lips tugged up into a smile as he reach his hand over to mine, intertwining my fingers along with his.

"Did you really think I'd cheat on you?" Pierce brought up a question I had been dreading. "I-" I started, trying to find the words without sounding like a complete bitch "I didn't know. Just between the second phone, text from Mercury, and you randomly showing up late or leaving randomly....you can't blame me for not thinking the worse."

"Why? Because I've cheated on other girls before?" Pierce pushed, this time his tone more aggravated. I could see why he was offended, I would be too if my partner thought I was cheating on them when I truly wasn't.

"Pierce, I didn't mean it like that...." I trailed off "Truth is I didn't know. With everything not making sense, I thought the worse. It doesn't help I know you've always gone running back to Mercury. I'm not saying once a cheater always a cheater, but could you blame me for thinking you might do it to me?"

"Yeah, I can." He snapped back "I would never cheat on you, Aspen. Ok, I've cheated before in the past, I was young and dumb and my girlfriend would threaten to kill herself if I left her-I'm not saying what I did was right but I was trapped. Mercury wasn't the kind of girl you could just talk to about issues. I need you to know now that I. Would. Never. Cheat. On. You."

"Ok." I nodded in agreement, believing him about what he said. I didn't believe once a cheater is always a cheater, I did think people could change once they found their person. Although I always wondered if you automatically knew if someone was a person. I mean how were you supposed to tell?

"Pierce," I spoke up, debating whether I should even ask. The question of if I was his person did come across my mind. I was certain Pierce was mine, it was a gut feeling I had and he never failed to make me smile. He made me feel safe and he made me feel at home.

"Yeah?"

"Am I your one?" I blurted the words out, finally deciding to just ask. I snapped my eyes over to his, his gray eyes boring into mine. Pierce seemed shocked that I was even asking, it was kind of out of nowhere but it was a subject on my mind. We had talked about the future of us before, but it was very brief.

"Why asking all of the sudden?" Pierce cocked an eyebrow, wondering why we suddenly had gotten on to this subject. I never brought it up because I never wanted it to feel forced or rushed. Realistically I would ask and it's not like he was going to tell me I wasn't his one, but I just wanted to see if he actually meant it.

"Well between Evangeline and Aster getting engaged, it just got me thinking," I explained, which wasn't a lie. Ever since Evangeline started talking about wedding details, it started to make me think more. I wanted a long life with Pierce but I wanted to see where his head had been at.

"So you're telling me you want to get married?" Pierce furrowed his brows together as he stared back at me. My face immediately became heated, my cheeks flushing bright red at Pierce's words. I had thought about us getting married but it was weird to hear him even talk about it in person.

"What? No. I mean yes, wait no." I tripped over my words "Yes I want to get married one day but not now. I just mean that Evangeline and Aster are planning on spending their whole lives together and I just wanted to know if you thought the same about me?"

"Oh, Ambrosia you are still as oblivious as the day I met you." Pierce let out a laugh before turning his head back to mine and sobering up "I wouldn't want to live a day of my future if it means you're not in it. I've known since the day you walked into Crestmont that you were my one and thank fucking god I was not wrong."

The blush on my cheeks only worsened, a grin breaking out on my lips. Pierce leaned in closer to me, brushing his lips against mine before whispering "Happy early anniversary." I smiled before closing the gap in between us, our lips meeting as one.

Our bodies leaned over the center console to reach each other, Pierce then snaking his hand over to my waist. Our lips moved in sync with one another, butterflies not failing to erupt in my stomach just like it was the first time all over again. His hands gripped onto my hips before pulling my body over to his.

Pierce pulled me down onto his lap, my legs straddling his waist as he stayed seated in the passenger seat. His cold hands snuck under my shirt, his fingers tracing the skin of my body. He then tugged at the bottom of my shirt before breaking his lips away from mine and pulling it above my head.

We both caught our breath before placing our lips back together. Pierce reached around the back of me and unhooked my bra clasp, allowing it to fall from my arms and leaving me topless. Pierce moved his lips from my lips to my neck, lightly sucking on my skin. He began to leave a trail of small kisses all the way down to my breast. I threw my head back and closed my eyes as his hands began to roam my body.

I placed my hands flat on Pierce's chest, my hands trailing down to the bottom of his shirt before grabbing the ends of it. He broke his lips away from my body before quickly taking his shirt off and meeting my lips once again. My body pressed up against his, neither of us breaking away for air as the kiss became more and more passionate.

Pierce's hands gripped the side of my body, groping me in everyway he could. Pierce's hands made his way down to the top of my jeans, slowly unbuttoning them one by one. I broke away from him when I heard his phone vibrating in his pocket. "Shit." Pierce muttered as he reached for his jacket that was thrown into the drivers seat.

"Who is it?" I asked, catching my breath as Pierce pulled the phone out to see Reese had been calling. Pierce answered the phone immediately and placed it on speaker phone, "Hello?"

"Pierce!" Reese cried into the phone, her voice cracking through the tears. Something was extremely wrong, my eyes widening as I we both shared the same look of concern. "Pierce please come get me. Dad's drunk and I'm scared, him and mom are fighting." She sobbed into the phone, barely being able to get the words out.

I quickly grabbed my bra off the seat, clasping it back on and pulling the shirt over my head. "Reese stay in your room and lock the door. I will be right there." Pierce's voice was filled with concern, his face falling at the sound of his sisters cries. I pushed the passenger seat door open and got out, allowing Pierce to as well.

"You drive, you know where you're going." I handed him the keys as he pulled his shirt back on and rushed around to the drivers side. I slid back into the passenger seat, buckling up as Pierce slammed on the gas to make the car go in reverse.

I clutched the handle connected to the roof as my body was thrown back into the seat as soon as he placed the car into drive. The park was gone within seconds of Pierce speeding down the road, passing trees and houses at what felt like the speed of sound. I glanced over to Pierce who's eyes were focused on the road, his hands clutching the steering wheel.

"Pierce, talk to me." I knew he was freaking out internally, I knew that he was about to lose it. Reese was his little sister and he would take a bullet for her. I was just as worried about Reeese as Pierce was, both of us thinking the same horrible thoughts but not wanting to actually say it or it'd make it more real.

"I'm going to fucking kill him if he lays a hand on her." Pierce gritted the words through his teeth, not breaking eye contact from the road. I watched as he sped down the shoulder of the highway, easily going as fast as this car could possibly go. We earned honks from fellow drivers on the road but didn't look back to any of them.

I kept a lookout for any police that could be on the road, hoping they weren't behind or in front of us. Most people would love for a police escort right now but when you were part of a gang, it made things a lot more complicated. I prayed in my head that Reese would be safe, hoping that Mrs. Gunner would put her daughters well being over her drunk husband.

It wasn't long before reached the Gunner's home which we reached within ten minutes of Pierce's constant speeding. Pierce pulled the car up to the front metal gate of the house, taking no time to get out of the car and rush up to the house. I followed right behind him, slamming the passenger door shut as I ran up the front steps.

Pierce reached for the doorknob to open the door but it was locked from the inside. "What now?" I asked nervously running a hand through my hair as the stress began to eat me alive. Pierce took one step back before slamming the side of his body into the side of the door with all his force, and knocking the door down.

The wooden door clashed to the ground, allowing us to step into the house of chaos. We both immediately heard screaming and shouting, coming from a drunken Mr. Gunner, Mrs. Gunner and Reese. We pushed our ways into a living room where Mr. Gunner had intruded into Reese's space, slurring his words.

"Fucking mistake!" He shouted at her as he lifted his hand and slapped her across the face and threw her body back into the wall. Everything happened so fast but all seemed to go down in slow motion. A pit in the bottom of my stomach formed and the tears pricked my eyes as Reese's body hit the floor, her head smacking the ground first followed by the rest of her body.

"STOP! STOP VANCE!" Mrs. Gunner pleaded as she grabbed onto her husbands lifted arm. I immediately forced my way over to Reese who laid on the ground, watching her unconscious body begin to shake rapidly.

"I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!" Pierce screamed as he reached Mr. Gunner and grabbed him by his shirt. Pierce balled the shirt up into his hands as his body became filled with anger. Pierce threw his dad into the wall, watching as he fell to the ground. Mrs. Gunner dropped to her knees, sobbing as she watched her deadbeat husband's body drop to the ground.

"Reese!" I yelled "Reese can you hear me?!" I tried to see if she was still conscious but it was obvious she wasn't. Her body began to seize, her limbs hitting the ground as she shook violently. I acted quickly, pushing any remaining furniture out of the way and turning her into a proper position so that she wouldn't swallow her tongue.

"Pierce!" I shouted over to him, knowing he was beating the shit out of his pathetic excuse for a father "Pierce she's seizing!" Tears pricked my eyes as I watched Reese's unconscious body not come out from the seizure. I reached for my phone in my back pocket and quickly dialed 911.

"911,  what's your emergency?"

"I need an ambulance, NOW." I said hysterical, feeling useless that I couldn't help her. My eyes began to fill up with tears, knowing that we had been too late and weren't able to save her. My heart broke in half for Reese, only being able to imagine the fear she had felt as she watched her drunken father ruin everything in his path.

"Ok, it's best to stay calm. Can you please tell me your name and address to send an ambulance too? What is your medical emergency? The operator stated calm but there was no time for calmness.

"Aspen Ambrosia, I'm at 42 Greenwhich st, New York. It's my boyfriends little sister, she's seizing after hitting her head." I explained, leaving a big chunk out of how she hit her head. "An ambulance is on the way. How old is she, Aspen?" The operator asked as she typed away on her computer.

"She just turned fourteen." I answered, tears streaming down my face as I held onto Reese. The operator took a last few minute details before hanging up the call and sending an ambulance to be her within minutes. I looked back to a bloody-beaten up Mr. Gunner in the back corner of the room. He was unconcious after Pierce was done with him, blood covering his face.

Pierce rushed over to me, dropping down to the ground as he grabbed hold of Reese, letting her seize within his arms. "Reese!" Pierce shouted and I could hear his voice begin to crack as he looked down to his beaten little sister. Her nose and lip had been busted along with her right cheek bright red from being slapped.

"Oh no, she's bleeding." I tore the bottom part of my shirt, ripping a strand off as I folded up the material and placed it to the back of her head where she had been bleeding. I watched as Pierce fought himself from breaking down, trying to stay strong for his little sister.

Within minutes, the paramedics rushed into the house with a gurney. They made their way immediately over to Reese, keeping her in a flat position and taking her pulse. They forced Pierce and I away from her as they checked all of her vitals, but Pierce wasn't able to tear his eyes away from her.

"She's going to be ok." I tried to reassure Pierce, but it wasn't much use. I pulled him into a hug, wrapping my arms tightly around him as he buried his head into the crook of my neck, shielding his face from anyone seeing he was upset. My heart broke into pieces as I glanced over to Reese's body being placed on a hospital gurney.
