I HOPE YOU FIND A WAY TO BE YOURSELF SOMEDAY

it was a mostly silent night at finn's house, both of his parents asleep in the room next to his and the sound of nighttime creatures being the only audible things available. his father had made sure to lock the basement door before heading off to bed to make sure finn couldn't get in there, also making sure to lock the safe again.

compared to his parents, however, finn never sleeps. he's always doing something 'better' but in reality he's just thinking about her. the girl who changed his mind about how he saw the world. the girl he used to hate over a month ago, but now wants to spend all of his time with. the girl who let him be himself.

finn was brought up to do as he was told by his parents or superiors, but spending that one night with millie changed his way of thinking forever.

he laid on his back on top of the blankets covering his bed while staring at the ceiling, many thoughts about the girl and his own family drifting through his mind. he thought about what would happen if him and millie ever ran away together, just the two of them in this big world, and just the thought of that made him very happy.

he knows for a fact that that him and millie have a bright future together, even if it means that he has to leave his family behind.

millie sat in front of her bedroom window, a small notebook almost filled to the back with her own writing in one hand, a pen in the other, and the glow of the full moon being her only source of light. she messily wrote down the words that came to her head, not caring if other people could read it because they shouldn't be reading it in the first place.

April 17th

Dear diary,

i can't get him out of my head. this boy, there's something special about him, i just know it. i never thought i'd say it, but i think im in love with finn wolfhard. the way he makes me feel is something i never expected with him and i can tell i make him feel the same. but i can't help get the feeling that-

millie stopped in the middle of her writing when she heard the sound of heels clicking along the sidewalk outside of her window. she took off the pair of small glasses she had placed on her nose to read better and sat them down on her open pages, turning and peeping her head out of the open window to see who was walking. it seemed to be a boy around millie's age and had a very familiar face, one she couldn't quite distinguish until he had gotten a little bit closer. as the boy approached her window, she realized that i was finn. he looked like he had been running most of the way, since he lives pretty far from her, and was visibly out of breath.

"h-hey millie," finn said as he stood right in front of millie, clearly trying to catch his breath.

"finn what are you doing here? it's almost 2 o'clock in the morning and we have school tomorrow. i figured you would be in bed by at least 10." she joked, finn seeming to tune out every word she just said. he grabbed onto one of her hands, standing on his tip-toes to try and get closer to her face.

"do you want to go for a walk?" he asked.

she laughed, "did you seriously come all the way to my house, almost across the entire town, just to ask me to go on a walk?"

"so is that a yes?"

"i think it is, finn wolfhard, i think it is." she replied.

millie let go of finn's hand and moved her book out of the way to shut her window, telling him to go to the front door where she would meet him in a few minutes. the old wooden floor couldn't help but creak with every step she took towards the front door, leaving her worried about waking her mother.

after hearing no movements come from her mother's room, millie realized she was in the clear and proceeded to walk into the carpeted living room where the front door was. she opened the door and saw finn looking and running his fingers along all the different antiques her mother had put out there for "decoration." but millie's definition of "decoration" was different from her mother's as she called it, "useless junk we don't have room for in the house."

she shut the door quietly behind her, trying not to wake her mother up who was sleeping upstairs. finn turned around to see millie, who had quickly changed out of her pj's and into jeans and a t-shirt, and instantly smiled.

"so what's the real reason you're here, wolfhard?" millie asked as she smiled at finn, crossing her arms and leaning against the frame of her front door.

"come with me and you'll find out, brown." he smiled at her, letting her lead the way down the sidewalk and both of them roaming around the night sky without a care in the world.
