IF WE DON'T TALK AGAIN
REMEMBER I LOVE YOU
"we got a call that two teenagers were seen doing damage to someone's private property," the officer, who looked very tired and simply ready to go home, explained to finn and millie, "so we have to figure out which one of you was doing the damage."
millie turned to look at finn who was staring at the officer in horror. he was terrified that they would take him to jail, he was nervous that his parents would find out and kill him, or something worse; they would take millie instead.
in the matter of a few days, millie made it very easy to be friends with finn. she showed him that life is short and you have to make the best of it while you can. she showed him how to have fun, even if some of that fun was technically illegal. he loved the way she made him feel, and he wanted to have that feeling forever.
the officer stood before them while writing something on his little notepad and it wasn't long before another man dressed in the same uniform walked up to the three of them.
"we have been told by a neighbor that it was the boy who did everything. what should we do with him?" the unfamiliar man said, leaning over to the other man to ask the question of what to do with finn.
"what do you mean 'what do we do with him?' we put his ass in jail until his trial or until someone bails him out." both finn and millie heard him say this, getting more nervous by the second, and shooting glances both at each other and at the officer.
the man then took the iron handcuffs out from his belt and forcefully turned finn around, placing them around his wrists then shoving him along the dirt and into his police car.
everything was happening too fast for millie, she had to do something to keep finn from going to jail.
"he didn't do any of this!" millie said as she ran up to the officer who had handcuffed finn, "i was the one who did everything. i bought the spray paint and made finn help me...take me instead!" she pleaded with him.
he gave her a confused look, seeming to not believe her, "do you really think a guy like him could vandalize a building on his own? look at him and then look at me, who looks more likely to do this?" she pointed out to him, motioning between herself and finn.
he hesitated, but ultimately took finn out of the car and let him go from the handcuffs, placing them on millie instead. she accepted her fate and let the man shove her into the vehicle that was flashing red and blue lights.
finn gave millie a scared look, not sure of what she was doing. he walked up to the window where he could see millie, who gave him a small smile as if to say, 'i did this for you'.
"i'm gonna get you out of there in no time, millie. trust me." finn said through the window of the car, to which the sound was slightly muffled to millie, right before it quickly sped off and into the distance, spitting dirt and dust behind it.

finn rushed inside his family's home, trying to get to his room as quickly as possible without either of his parents knowing. but to no avail, it didn't work. his mother caught him at the top of the staircase and had an agitated look upon her face, with her arms also crossed and a stance that said she wasn't going to move.
"do you have any idea of what time it is finnegan wolfhard?! it's nearly 11 at night, and you didn't come home at the expected 4:30 after your detention. i demand an explanation!" she insisted, pushing the messy pieces of her dirty blonde hair behind her shoulders where it had been resting.
"i was just- with s-some friends a-and i lost track of time! i'm sorry!" finn tried to explain to her, but that wasn't good enough.
"give me your phone." she demanded after a few moments of silence.
the words that came out of her mouth suddenly made finn freeze up, because he knew that whenever she went through his phone, she wanted to see who he had been texting. he hesitantly grabbed his phone from his back pocket and placed it in his mother's hand that was extended out for him to put it.
she clicked the device on and went into his messages, seeing several from millie. she looked through just about every text they had ever sent, as finn never seems to delete anything, and saw all of the 'flirting' they seemed to be doing.
"and who's millie?" she questioned him.
"she's just a friend! i p-promise!" he pleaded. he knew he always sounded helpless and scared around his mother, but ever since he was a child she taught him that she was always in control and he had no say in what he could do. and the thought of disobeying her terrified him because he didn't know what to expect, as he had never been in trouble before.
she looked back at her son and away from the phone screen, "just a friend, huh? i don't believe a single word you say young man, as you're clearly lying." she said as she turned back to the phone. she clicked on millie's contact information in the corner, scrolling down to 'block caller' and pressing it.
to keep her son away from trouble, she has to keep him away from trouble itself.
or at least try.
she handed it back to finn, telling him that he isn't to be associated with 'that girl' anymore and that he was grounded. he quickly nodded his head and walked past her and into his room where he slumped onto his bead.
he took out his phone once again, but instead went into his contacts and recovering millie's from his blocked callers list. his mom can try her best to keep them apart, but she will not succeed.

the house was quiet, everyone asleep in their beds without a care in the world. well, almost everyone was asleep. finn was wide awake while his parents slept peacefully in the next room. he just laid in bed, staring at the ceiling in defeat. millie was stuck in jail for who knows how long and finn didn't have a plan to get her out.
although, he did have one idea.
finn's father works at a huge company outside of the city, bringing in a few thousand dollars a week to support the family. they were wealthy, there was no denying that, but there was a huge safe down in their basement that finn had never thought of opening. his father always told him that if he were to try and open it, he would be 'disowned' and 'never allowed to have any contact with him or his mother'. but how was his father supposed to notice if only a single thousand was missing? there's at least 200,000 dollars in there, he won't notice anything.
so screw it, right?
millie's more important.
finn made his decision after a few moments, getting up from his bed and changing into some of his day clothes, a navy blue sweater and a pair of jeans. he carefully tip-toed over to his door after slipping on a pair of shoes, slowly turning the squeaky doorknob. he eventually made it down to the basement where the safe was, noticing how big it was and surprised at how something like that can go overlooked. he realized that he needed the combination, knowing that his father set the lock so it must be a blend of numbers that would be almost impossible to guess. unless, of course, his father simply made it the digits that represented finn's birthday.
finn walked over to the vault, looking at the dust that covered it along with a few scratches and chipped pieces. he twisted the rather large dial, seemingly aimless as to the code he was putting in, but still trying to unlock it all the same. he stopped it after getting to the last number, grabbing and pulling the silver handle below it and expecting it not to budge, but fortunately for finn, his theory was correct.
the door slowly opened, finn making sure it didn't make loud enough noises to wake his sleeping parents, even if they were two stories above him. he quickly grabbed one small block of his fathers money out from the vault, fanning it out in front of him and seeing that there was at least ten 100 dollar bills, which equaled out to an even thousand. he swiftly shut the door but not remembering to push it closed or turning the dial to lock it, so if anyone were to get into it, it would be fairly easy.
finn quickly walked back up the basement steps and into the living room where he shut the door that was located under the staircase. he quickly walked to the front door and headed out, the chilly breeze of the night hitting his face as he left. he locked the door of his larger home behind him and made his way across town toward the police station where millie was.
he didn't want to think that she was in any danger while she was there, but this city is filled with all kinds of different people from different backgrounds, so it is a possibility. finn shook the current thoughts from his head as they were making him nervous and walk slower. he picked up his pace and soon enough he found his destination, making sure the money he needed was still safely stored in his pocket, and luckily it was.
there was only one car placed in the little parking lot, and surly enough it was a police car, meaning that there was at least one person inside who is 'looking after' millie while she's there. finn looked across the street before crossing, shoving his hands in his pockets as he did so to get them out of the cold breeze that was taking over the city. he walked over to the station and opened the glass door to see a middle-aged man slumped in his chair, obviously bored out of his mind as he watched a random infomercial on the little television in front of him.
finn looked over to his right and saw one small cell big enough to fit 4 people maximum, millie all by herself looking just as bored as the officer. she looked up as she noticed someone had arrived, specifically for her, and saw it was finn. she stood up on her feet as he walked up to the officer who had barely taken a glimpse of the boy in front of him. finn cleared his throat to get the attention of the older man, which he successfully did, and placed the small stack of the clamped together 100 dollar bills on his desk.
"im here for the girl."
